1. Questionnaire Results- Task 7
For this task, I am planning to ask a variety of students within the college
campus, questions to find out what they would like to see in a pop/charts
music genre magazine. In addition, I will then summarise their overall
results to figure out what would be best suited for my target audience of
my music magazine. I will ask them a total of fourteen questions and their
responses will be shown below:

Question One: Are you male or female?
The majority of people I asked were female, however, there was about a
quarter which were male.

Question Two: Are you in between the ages of 16 to 23?
Every single one of the public in which I gave my questionnaire to were
between the ages of 16-23.
Question Three: What pop/chart music artists/bands/music do you listen to?
In conclusion, throughout the answers for this question, there was a variety of
the following pop/chart music artists and bands: Ed Sheeran, Labrinth,
Swedish House Mafia, The Script, Mumford and Sons. These seemed to be the
most consistent answers within my completed questionnaires.

What colours would be appropriate for the cover of a pop/chart genre
magazine?
The public answered pretty much 50/50 with some saying the use of bright,
bold and vivid colours would suit the genre best due to the music being lively
itself. Whereas, the other half said dull, plain colours would make it look more
professional and modern emphasising the newness of the music.
What sell lines/coverlines would you like to see on the cover of this type
of magazine?
The public thought of answers such as: advertisements for gigs/concerts for
popular artists/bands, furthermore, sell lines which attract and interest both
genders such as famous artist’s stories or competitions to win reliable
products.

Question Six: Do you currently purchase or read a music magazine?
Out of all the completed questionnaires only a few answered that they do, the
rest all answered with no.

The people, who answered yes, suggested they read magazine such as:
Kerrang and NME.
What attracts/appeals you to this magazine and why do you like it?
The public’s opinions on this was because their favourite bands are included
in them, as well it talks about the latest music and news which is what
attracts them into purchasing the specific magazines.
Question Eight: How come you don’t read or purchase music magazines?
Out of all the options that were given, only the following were selected: they
don’t interest/appeal to me, I don’t pay attention to them, and other reasons
which were specified as they prefer to read other types of magazines or they

Question Nine: What would encourage you to buy a music magazine?
Out of all the options that were given, only the following were selected: free
gifts, dates of upcoming concert/gigs, competitions (winning tickets/prizes

Question Ten: Which of the following magazines appeal to you the most?
Options:
One magazine cover tended to appeal the most and that was the first option
which was Rihanna and the reasons for this consisted of the following: she is
attractive and will appeal to a wide range of audience, an iconic figure and
role model which people look up to, the layout because she is the dominating
image on the cover and furthermore, her popularity and the image itself
matches the latest trends and music fashion.

Several options were given and the feedback told me that the most popular

Question Twelve: What specific images or photographs associated with
pop/chart music would you like to see on the front cover that would attract
you to buy it?
There was a variety of answers given from the public but the following
proved to be most popular: popular and well-known artists, fashion and
fashionable outfits, a different background, interesting and modern house
styles, big and recent tunes, a medium close up shot of an attractive artist.
Question Thirteen: What contents would you like to see in a pop/chart music
genre magazine?
The most common answers were the following: artists, concert and gig dates
or ticket offers, latest news and fashion, interviews with artists, the top
charts, gossip and quite a few variety of images (such as different
surroundings, clothing and shot types).
Question Fourteen: What would you like to see on the double page spread of a
pop/chart music genre magazine?
The public suggested: large/dominant photos, interviews from current
artists, posters, review of a gig/concert, artist quotes and chart music.
