  • Authentication is a process where users verify that they say they are. The user who attempts to perform functions in a system is in fact the user who is authorised to do so.
    • Existing Authentication Method

    • User Id, password, pin number
    • Something you have:
    • Smart card, magnetic card, key
    • Something you know and have:
    • ATM card + pin number
    • Something you naturally have:
    • Fingerprint, face, iris, hand
    • What is biometric?
    • A biometric is a measurable biological phenomena
    • Biometrics are automated methods of recognizing a person
    • based on a physiological or behavioral characteristics

    • Accurate and able to speed up processes
    • Convenience: can be used in place of many existing security
