In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and
conventions of real media products?

Our music video is a mixture of challenging and also complying with the
conventions of a real product. Our video contains the fun enjoyable feel
which is expected giving the song which we chose, however we used modern
technologies to make the video similar to resent day videos. We used the
green screen for most of the video so we could add colours and animations
to the video which is very popular in present day however it wasn’t used
when the song we used was originally released, this puts a modern day spin
on the song so the audience can understand and relate to the ‘re-release’ of
the song.

It challenges the forms as we have not actually used many things that
correspond to the lyrics which is in Goodwin’s theory, however we have used
some of the expected techniques such as cutting the background colours to
the beat of the song as we have quite long still shots of lip sync which didn’t
match the song so we instead of cutting the clips to the beat thought it would
be more beneficial to the video by cutting the background colours to the beat
instead.

The main music video that we took inspiration from would be Rihanna –
Rude Boy. We liked the idea of using mainly green screen throughout the
video and how the background and animations matched the beat of the song
and was continuous throughout. This is what led to our idea of solid block
colours, giving our experience using final cut not being as developed as it
would have had to of been to do animations like in Rude Boy this led to un
reassessing our ideas and realised we could instead use solid block colours
which still created a fun feel and also give a lot of colour and interest
throughout. However we also knew we could not depend on just block colour
backgrounds as it would be too repetitive and would evidently become boring
to watch so we included shot of girls getting ready in different situations to
follow the lyrics of the song ‘Girls Just Wanna Have Fun’.
