As humans we think all the time because we possess the ability and capacity to do so. However, it is not all types of thinking that is productive or relevant to our own very existence. Although we have the natural abilities to think as humans, this mental ability is an art and a craft. Consequently, the art of correct thinking can be acquired through learning. There are several different types of thinking such as: creative thinking, design thinking, innovative thinking, positive thinking, and of course critical thinking. For the purpose of this course, we will concentrate on critical thinking.

Feedback for Professor on week 1 discussion Mental health and illness are always a question for individuals in the criminal justice system, regardless of their age. Understanding mental health and how that might impact decision making and criminal behavior are important questions. But you need to look at the alignment of your Research Problem / Purpose / Question. These should all be different ways of saying the same thing. So, if you are talking about mental illness and rehabilitation in one, you should be talking about illness and rehabilitation in all of them. Please work on this alignment for both the quantitative research design and the qualitative research design for Week 2. Week 1 discussion question Specific Program of Study and Area of Concentration My major and program of study is PhD in Forensic Psychology with a concentration in victimology. My career interest is to work with juveniles that are charged with serious and violent murderers. Working with juveniles that has committed serious and violent crimes has always been a fascination of mine, the fascination stems from my interest in understanding their thought process and thinking, their social background, their environmental background and any mental health diagnosis. Social Problem The social problem with juvenile murderers is that behavioral problems and mental health diagnosis are often grossly overlooked. Quantitative Research Problem The Scholarly community does not know the proper therapeutic therapies to apply to these child murderers instead of putting them in prison. Quantitative Research Purpose The purpose of this quantitative research is developing a research study that will be implemented into juvenile prisons, to better rehabilitate these children instead of further damaging them, implementing programs that will better prepare them for future release. Quantitative Research Question The quantitative research question is as follows; What is the relationship of a diagnosed mental illness and juveniles that commit serious and violent murders. Qualitative Research Problem The scholarly community does not know that behavioral problems and mental illnesses may result in children becoming serious violent murders. The qualitative research problem is does diagnosed mental health diagnoses contribute to juveniles becoming murderers. Qualitative Research Purpose The purpose of this qualitative study is to correlate previous studies of juvenile murderers and mental health illnesses. As a result, strategic rehabilitation programs will help in reintegrated back into society. Qualitative Research Question In this qualitative research the question will be posed as, are their early signs of mental health diagnoses that will detect juvenile murders, and can detecting these early signs reduce the number of juvenile murderers? Please review the previous questions and revised as needed. Please keep layout as is and the assignmen ...

Chapter 6 Ask Questions That Lead to Good Thinking From what we have emphasized thus far, it should be clear that to emulate the thinking of the best thinkers you must become interested in thinking. you must become a critic of your own thinking. you must be willing to establish new habits of thought. you must develop a passion for thinking well. you must study the interplay of thoughts, feelings, and desires. you must become interested in the role of thinking in your life. you must routinely analyze thinking into its elements. you must routinely assess thinking for its strengths and weaknesses. you must routinely assess your study (and learning) habits. you must learn how to think within diverse systems of thought. In this chapter, we shall explore the role of questions in thinking to make explicit the questions the best thinkers ask. The Importance of Questions in Thinking It is not possible to become a good thinker and be a poor questioner. Thinking is not driven by answers but, rather, by questions. If those who laid the foundation for a field—for example, physics or biology—asked no questions, the field would not have been developed in the first place. Every intellectual field is born out of a cluster of questions to which answers are either needed or highly desirable. Furthermore, every field stays alive only to the extent that fresh questions are generated and taken seriously as the driving force in thinking. To learn a subject is to learn to ask the questions the best thinkers in the field routinely ask. When a field of study is no longer pursuing answers to questions, it becomes extinct. To think through or rethink anything, one must ask questions that stimulate thought. On the one hand, questions define tasks, express problems, and delineate issues. Answers, on the other hand, often signal a full stop in thought. Only when an answer generates further questions does thought continue its life as such. This is why you are really thinking and learning only when you have questions. Moreover, the quality of the questions you ask determines the quality of your thinking. When you have no questions, you are not concerned with pursuing any answers. For example, biologists and biochemists make progress when they ask questions such as: “What are we made of? How do our bodies work? What is life?” They make even more progress when they take their questioning to the subcellular and molecular level. They ask questions about isolated molecules and events on the molecular level: “What are proteins? What are enzymes? What are enzyme reactions? How do molecular events underlie macroscopic phenomena?” (Jevons, 1964). By focusing on these subcellular questions, they can move to important questions such as: “How do vitamins interact with chemistry in the body to produce healthier functioning? How do cancer cells differ from normal cells? What kinds of foods interact with the body’s chemistry to lessen the likelihood of the development of cancerous cells?” .

Serving gifted students requires more than challenging academic experiences. As a matter of fact, research suggests that developing certain social emotional learning (SEL) competencies like persistence, strategic risk-taking, and self-confidence are necessary for developing talent. This session introduces a series of lessons that develop social emotional learning (SEL) competencies alongside academically rigorous work to help ensure that gifted students have the skills necessary to recognize strengths, manage stress, communicate effectively, practice empathy and compassion, and motivate their actions to explore learning that is personally meaningful all while meeting rigorous academic standards.

Application Topics The APPLICATION PROJECT OPTIONS from which you may choose are: 1. Prenatal Development Design an education course for expectant parents. At the minimum, prepare an outline of all the topics that you would cover in this course and include a description of any activities and resources you would use. 2. Infant Development Observe the motor behavior of an infant (0-3 years) over three (3) periods of at least 30 minutes. You may interact with the infant during this time. Record your detailed, objective observations, then write out your evaluation of the infant's motor development based on the information presented in this course. 3. Preschool Development Observe the language behavior of a preschool child (3-6 years) over three (3) periods of at least 30 minutes. You may interact with the child during this time. Record your detailed, objective observations, then write out your evaluation of the child's language development based on the information presented in this course. 4. Middle Childhood Development Observe the play behavior of a middle-years child (6-12 years) over three (3) periods of at least 30 minutes. Do not interact with the child during this time. Try to make your presence as inconspicuous as possible. You may want to go to a park or playground. Record your detailed, objective observations then write out your evaluation of the child's play/social development based on the information presented in this course. 5. Adolescent Development Make up at least ten (10) open-ended questions and ask them of a minimum of 5 adolescents. The questions could concern school, sex, food, use of time, occupation, plans for the future, etc. Record their answers as best you can and then write out your evaluation of the adolescents' identity formation based on the information presented in this course. 6. Adult Development Write your autobiography from your earliest memories to your present stage of adult development. The focus of this paper should be on the determinants of your present personality. Using Erik Erikson's theory of psychosocial development, state how you think you resolved each of the crises of development (for early stages, you may have to ask others or draw conclusions based on your present personality). Give specific examples from your life story to support your conclusions. 7. Aging Make up at least ten open-ended questions and ask them of a minimum of 5 individuals over the age of 65. Among the questions that you should ask them are, "What would you do differently if you had your life to live over again?" and "What advice would you give a person of my age on how to live a meaningful life?" Write your questions and the answers received in your paper and include any conclusions you would make about aging. 8. Death and Dying Design a death education course that would help you deal with your own death or the death of a loved one. Prepare an outline of all of the topics you would cover in this cour.

In BC’s nearly-decade-old “new” curriculum, the curricular competencies describe the processes that students are expected to develop in areas of learning such as mathematics. They reflect the “Do” in the “Know-Do-Understand” model. Under the “Communicating” header falls the curricular competency “Explain and justify mathematical ideas and decisions.” Note that it contains two processes: “Explain mathematical ideas” and “Justify mathematical decisions.” I have broken it down into its separate parts in order to understand--or reveal--its meaning. The first part is commonplace in classrooms. By now, BC math teachers—and students—understand that “Explain mathematical ideas” means more than “Show your work.” Teachers consistently ask “What did you do?” and “How do you know?” This process is about retelling, not just of steps but of thinking. The second part happens less frequently. Think back to the last time that you observed a student make—a necessary precursor to justify—a mathematical decision. “Justify” is about defending. Like “explain,” it involves reasoning; unlike “explain,” it also involves opinion and debate. In order to reinterpret the curricular competency “Explain and justify mathematical ideas and decisions,” I will continue to take apart its constituent part “Justify mathematical decisions” and carefully examine the term “mathematical decisions.” What, exactly, is a “mathematical decision”? Below, I will categorize answers to this question. These categories, and the provided examples, may help to suggest new opportunities for students to justify.
