In this webinar, the presenter discussed some of the skills that project managers should possess to succeed at becoming great leaders. The presenter talked about the importance of acquiring skills by analogy, and presented some models that help project managers on developing the necessary skills. Have we been focusing on the wrong things? • The key emergent habits of top-flight project managers. • How we can do the same and perhaps get the same results? • The skill acquisition model as a career development path. Presenter: Patrick Mayfield is an author and coach. He coaches leaders around the world to become what he calls “positive outliers”- the top 8% of change leaders, those who lead the way for the rest of us. He has authored two solo books: Practical People Engagement (2013) which was adopted by APMG International as the core reference for its qualification in Stakeholder Engagement, and Leading Yourself: Succeeding from the Inside Out (2016). Transformation to a disruptive leadership style
Everyone approaches leadership in a unique manner. Their approach differs from situation to situation along with their overall leadership style. Some are born with it and others pick it up along the way. Each experience inextricably affects your personality, thinking and biases as you mature and evolve as a leader. Here are some of the lessons that my experiences have taught me.
Agile leadership
This leadership seminar was delivered for Accenture in Bonifacio Global City (BGC) for their Top ACT event. It was the first time they were doing an event such as this for their newly launched mentorship program so delivering the Agile Leadership talk for them was a very big deal for me.
I mixed a little bit of tech geekiness in the deck so the sub-title is 'Decoding Leadership in Today's World'. I also tackled why leadership is important and why it's difficult at the same time.
I also noted that leadership is more difficult nowadays because influencing people has become more elusive. Technology has increased our awareness and so it has also increased our skepticism. We don't put our faith in someone or something as easily as before.
Influence is earned. Which means leadership is earned. And how you earn leadership stems from who you are and how authoritative you are in what you do and say.
Earning influence requires a ton of hard work, intentional practice, research and diplomacy. These things do not come often to a lot of people. There are a few gems of an individual that has these and I implore people to work towards having these characteristics as it will serve them in becoming the best leaders they can be.
I also talk about passion and how it is grossly misunderstood by the world at large. It does take passion to be a leader but it is the difficult side of passion that enables this. The side that takes a lot of sacrifice and (I daresay) martyrdom.
Life is not about work and pay. Rather, it is about sharing your faith to others. Give what you have freely to others. How can you share and give to others if they don't want what you have?
Because they don't want to be like you?
The Bible says in Titus 2:7 "And you yourself must be an example to them by doing good works of every kind. Let everything you do reflect the integrity and seriousness of your teaching."
You have to be someone who matters to people. That takes authority which turns to influence.
Leadership is impossible without the willingness to suffer for something you truly believe in. The good news is leadership can be agile!
Leadership is not a long, hard development that will launch after everything has been "quality-assured."
You learn, you practice - and yes you might faith sometimes and experience 'bugs' along the way, but the important thing is to 'just keep shipping.'
This talk was also delivered to Fluor Philippines, in Alabang. They are a Fortune 500 company with more than 56,000 employees worldwide. They also have offices in Manila and Cebu with a combined headcount of almost 3,000 employees. They got me to talk about leadership for their Mentoring program. It was a very exciting time for them and I, in turn, was thrilled for the opportunity to speak about leadership in their event.

Dr. Edward Marchewka is a seasoned executive that has come up through the ranks in the IT vertical, expanding into information security, quality management, and strategic planning.
Edward founded and serves as the Principal for 3LC Solutions, enabling YOU to Tell a Better Story in business, with our vCIO, vCISO, quality, and strategy consulting services, through metrics and relating risk to the business with our CHICAGO Metrics® SaaS solution.
He has also held several roles leading information technology, most recently with Gift of Hope Organ and Tissue Donor Network, leading the Information and Technology Services department as the Director of IT, Data, and Security Services. Prior to Gift of Hope, he ran information security for Chicago Public Schools.
Edward has earned a Doctorate of Business Administration from California Southern University and Masters’ degrees in Business Administration and Mathematics from Northern Illinois University. He earned Bachelors’ degrees in Liberal Studies and Nuclear Engineering Technologies from Thomas Edison State College, N.J. Edward maintains several active IT, security, and professional certifications from (ISC)2, ASQ, ITIL, PCI, PMI, ISACA, Microsoft, and CompTIA. He has held legacy IT certifications from Cisco and HP, and a designation from the National Security Agency.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in Education
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.
