4. INTRODUCTION
Pakistan Ordinance Factories are the premier
defense industries in Pakistan producing a wide
range of conventional defensive ammunitions to
international standards.
Recognized for quality, reliability and competitive
POF products are internationally accepted.
4
5. INTRODUCTION
The nucleus of POF has grown in to a large
modern engineering and chemical group of
factories, producing large range of munitions
systems of ground, air and naval forces in
additions to meeting the domestic demands of the
defense forces
5
6. INTRODUCTION
POF products are in service with over 30 countries,
conforming to the highest international standards of
quality and reliability.
An international name in quality and reliability, all
manufacturing units of POF are ISO-9001 & ISO-14001
certifies. Its metallurgical testing labs and ballistic
proof ranges have the word’s class recognition of ISO-
17025.

7. MAINTENANCE OF MACHINES
In the field of maintenance the traditional
approach has been to rely upon the knowledge and
skill of the craft-persons who conduct it. There is a
great deal of pride of workmanship and, in all too
many organizations, a great deal of psychic income
in addition to significant overtime pay for
successful emergency repairs to return equipment
to operation after unplanned shutdown.
7
8. Machine Breakdowns
Main reasons of machine breakdowns are as
follows:
Lack of or Improper Maintenance (Cleaning &
lubrication oil checks)
Age of Equipment - Exhausted Useful Life of
Machinery
Improper Use of Equipment
Lack of Control or Safety Devices
8
9. Machine Breakdowns
Failure of Safety Devices to Function Properly
Poor Workmanship/Inferior Materials (e.g.; Cast
iron)
Operator Error
Poor Operating Environment
External Forces
9
10. Procedures Of Maintenance
Two main procedures of maintenance used in
POFs are as follow:
Preventive Maintenance
Corrective Maintenance
10
12. Preventive Maintenance
SCHEDULE A
Check for connections of motors, stators
and loose connections.
Electrical wiring setting.
Checking of motors foundation bolts.
Safety checks on electrical systems, alarms
and sensors.
12
13. Preventive Maintenance
Checking the motors belts and pulleys.
Checking of pneumatic and hydraulic
system.
Checking of lubrication oil and coolant oil.
Checking of gear box and no sound
conditions.
13
14. Preventive Maintenance
SCHEDULE B
Replacement of filters and checking of lubrication oil.
Complete checking and cleaning of coolant system.
Setting of transmission box, clutches and pulleys’
alignment.
Checking of the safety devices.
Complete checking of machines’ elements e.g. beds,
slides and turrets.
In working conditions there should be no sound in
parts of machine.
14
15. Preventive Maintenance
SCHEDULE B
Removing any leakage in pneumatic, oil or
hydraulic systems.
Complete cleaning after work.
Checking machine bolts and removing any loose
bolt.
Checking electrical connections.
Safety of motors, stators and other parts of
machines.
Alignment of motor shafts, pulleys and slides
