Sourav Roy is a 7th semester student studying Computer Technology at Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University. The document discusses the Internet of Things (IoT), which connects electronic devices and software to enable networking and communication between devices. IoT goes beyond machine-to-machine communication and allows interconnection and automation across many fields through applications like smart grids and devices that can identify people and objects. The document predicts that vertical market applications will have a big impact in the next five years by improving areas like healthcare, transport, and food safety. Applications are key to providing people access to the benefits of IoT.
1. INTERNET OF THINGS
Name: Sourav Roy

Semester: Seventh (7th)
Branch: Computer Technology
2. The Internet of Things (I o T) is the inclusion of electronics
and software in any device not usually considered computerized
in nature, to enable it to achieve greater value and service by
giving it an ability to network and communicate with other
devices. Each item is uniquely identifiable through its embedded
computing device but is able to interoperate within the existing
internet infrastructure.
I o T is expected to offer advanced connectivity of devices,
systems, and services that goes beyond machine-to-machine
communications(M2M) and covers a variety of protocols,
domains, and applications.
The interconnection of these embedded devices (including
smart objects), is expected to usher in automation in nearly all
fields, while also enabling advanced applications like a Smart
Grid.
3. Things, in the I o T, can refer to a wide variety of devices such
as heart monitoring implants, biochip transponders on farm
animals, electric clams in coastal waters, automobiles with
built-in sensors, or field operation devices that assist fire-
fighters in search and rescue. Current market examples include
smart thermostat systems and washer/dryers that utilize wi-fi
for remote monitoring.
Besides the plethora of new application areas for Internet
connected automation to expand into, I o T is also expected to
generate large amounts of data from diverse locations that is
aggregated at a very high-velocity, thereby increasing the need
to better index, store and process such data.
4. Supply-chain helpers: RIDF tags for facilitating
routine , inventorying , and loss prevention .
Vertical-market applications: Surveillance , security ,
healthcare , transport , food safety , document
management.
Ubiquitous positioning: Locating people and
everyday objects.
Physical-world Web: Tele-operation and tele -
presence . Ability to monitor and control distant
objects.
5. From my point of view I expect Vertical-Market
applications to have a big impact in the next five
years.
In the previous slide the points that I have
highlighted under Vertical-market applications are
some fields which we experience in our day-to-day
life .
And the advancement of this fields will be very
much beneficial to the common people.
6. Development of application :
The basic idea behind development of Internet of Things
(I o T) is to make things more easier for people.
Applications are one of the most common source or we
can say only source through which people can have access
to Internet of Things.
Example: INTELLIGENT SHOPPING SYSTEMS that
monitor specific users' purchasing habits in a store by
tracking their specific mobile phones. These users could
then be provided with special offers on their favorite
products, or even location of items that they need, which
their fridge has automatically conveyed to the phone.
