First and Foremost <ul><li>It’s Social… </li></ul><ul><li>It’s not a static billboard or advertising. </li></ul><ul><li>It’s about building communities & relationships. </li></ul><ul><li>It happens on the internet. </li></ul><ul><li>If you’re not having fun – you’re doing it wrong. </li></ul>
  4. 4. Why do I care? <ul><li>You might not – and that’s OK! </li></ul><ul><li>However, consider this… </li></ul><ul><li>People you know don’t care about me, the Globe & Mail, or CTV… they care about you! </li></ul>

You Are Social Media <ul><li>You now have the power to reach more people than traditional media. </li></ul><ul><li>Big media is increasingly less impactful and your personal stories and good word are becoming far more influential. </li></ul><ul><li>Corporations are interested in people and organizations who will share their brand with their friends. </li></ul>
  6. 7. ZOMG That’s TOO Much! <ul><li>Relax! You don’t need to know it all. </li></ul><ul><li>What sites do people you know use? (go there) </li></ul><ul><li>Don’t be afraid to try it… you can’t possibly break it. (I promise) </li></ul><ul><li>We’re here to help. Got a question? Ask us! Flickr <ul><li>More than just photo’s </li></ul><ul><li>Flickr: Your Photostream </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Use tags for Google </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Join groups </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Sponsor logo’s </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Connect with others who share your interests </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Socialize </li></ul></ul><ul><li>For example: The Long Goodbye </li></ul>

Blogs <ul><li>Share thoughts, expertise, opinions. </li></ul><ul><li>Connect with others through comments. </li></ul><ul><li>Announce, talk about or review a sponsor’s product. </li></ul><ul><li>Share your enthusiasm for the Walk and your experience with ALS. </li></ul><ul><li>Google will help spread the word, but so should you. Share your blog on other sites. </li></ul>

Facebook <ul><li>Create a walk event page . </li></ul><ul><li>Invite all your friends to participate in the group – even if they can’t attend the walk. </li></ul><ul><li>Ask them to invite everyone they know and spread the word about ALS and your Walk. </li></ul><ul><li>Share your progress as you work on the event. Your trip here is a fun addition to the page. </li></ul><ul><li>Add sponsor logo’s. Links to walk maps etc. </li></ul>
  11. 12. <ul><li>“ The Office” of social media. </li></ul><ul><li>Identify people’s connections and ask them if they’ll introduce you. </li></ul><ul><li>Engage on a more professional level with potential supporters. </li></ul><ul><li>Now has capacity to link to Twitter updates. </li></ul>
  12. 13. <ul><li>Karen will discuss in more detail. </li></ul><ul><li>Twitter is like instant messaging w/the world. </li></ul><ul><li>Twitter’s web interface is boring – but if you use Tweetdeck, you will find the ability to create groups, searches and to scan through “tweets” more easily. </li></ul><ul><li>Tweetdeck makes engagement with others & finding great people a snap. </li></ul>Twitter & Tweetdeck
