Market Research Survey Results
The purpose of my research is to find out who my target audience is and what they would
most like to see in a music magazine. I created a survey asking appropriate questions about
both music and my audience. By collecting my results I hope to reach a conclusion on
factors such as; what age and gender my audience will be, what genre my magazine will be,
its price and how regularly it is produced.

I have discovered, from my results, that in
order to draw in a large audience to my
magazine I would need to market it to
both male and female audiences as I
received an equal split of results from my
gender question.

My results show that my target audience for
my magazine should be 16 to 20 year olds as
the majority of my results for my age
question were within that age group. This
means that I will need to consider younger
artists which my audience will be able to
relate to.

I have found that the majority of people
who completed my survey read magazines
weekly. This will affect the regularity of
my magazine as it will need to be released
as a weekly issue in order to maintain a
regular audience. It will also affect the
overall price of the magazine as I will need
to ensure that it is affordable for young
people on a weekly basis.

I have found that the most popular genre of music
is Rock, closely followed by Indie Rock. From this
data I have decided that for my magazine to be
popular I must include the music from these
genres. These results have also determined the
house colour and style of my magazine as it will
need to fit into the Rock look and have similarities
to other Rock magazines.

I will need to ensure that my magazine has a
high photographic content as the largest
proportion of the people who completed my
survey have chosen that they like to look at
photographs rather than read interviews. I will
need to take this into account when taking
photo shoots for my magazine to certify that I
have enough images.

My results conclude that using the internet site
YouTube is the most popular way to find out
about new music. I could use this information to
develop an article in my magazine about
YouTube and its up and coming Rock bands and
artists that I feel my audience would be
interested in or to share the best channels to find
music on the site.

As my results have shown that music is listened
to daily, it would be appropriate to include an
article which informed readers about new music
and artists so that they can find new music to
listen to as they may get bored of listening to the
same music all the time. This would enable me to
keep my readers interested as they can use my
magazine to find out about new music.

the most popular or most recognisable
magazines. This has helped me to determine
what type of magazine I should make and the
layout of the magazine as I can use these

YouTube according to my survey results. I could
use this information along with my information
on where music is found to create an article
about artists that use YouTube to promote
their music. This would attract the reader’s
attention as they can use the magazine to find
and to listen to new music through a site which
they are familiar with.

monthly magazine is between £2.99 and £3.99.
From this data and my data from how often
magazines are read suggests that my magazine
should be released every week as that is how
often people have answered that they read
magazines. I have decided that the most
appropriate price for my magazine should be the
lesser, £2.99.
