3. FOSTERING CREATIVITY AMONG STUDENTS
We need to thoroughly revise our courseware for our primary and senior secondary
students for a positive change.
Education System is to be blamed first, killing talent and suppressing Creative thinking.
A curriculum fit for nothing, even studying 12 years regularly in a school can't get you a
deserving job, then what use is of the courses.
Current education system tests our memorizing capacity but not talent, the one who mugs
up more is the highest scorer.
Similarly, someone interested in doing Engineering in Computer Sc. has to tackle the
Benzene Ring problems of Organic chem. in JEE, and if he misses a few of them, his dream
is shattered, for an irrelevant subject to his course.
Instead, we should give more importance to practical learning than theoretical one. This
way we can understand the objectives of our studies more clearly.
Theory has to be taught but marks should be given to the practical implications of that
theory in the form of projects.
More and more vocational courses needs to be added into the curriculum in order to
make our educational environment more innovative and career oriented.

4. Unfortunately our nation is obsessed with quantity
and not quality.
India churns out 3 Million graduates each year still
75% of technical graduates and 85% of general
graduates are unemployable.
India has gradually become the largest supplier of
technical coolies worldwide, but that does not
make us innovative
The pro-reservation people are doing a disservice
to their base and merit by quota method for
selection in educational institutions is the critical
factor
One needs a decent socio-political environment to
attract and groom people with required quality to
become original thinker, a scientist.

5. EnoughofPhD‘mania’
PhD is regarded as a mere qualification after post graduation,
and it is viewed as a tool, which raises employment prospects.
This explains the overall attitude of a nation about Research.
It is important to revise the
thesis inspection methods
and to make them more
research oriented.
The conventional and
popular Copy-Paste system
in the preparation of thesis
must be checked strictly.
There should be a Central
governing body run by
organizations like DRDO,
etc., responsible for audit
of all the research papers
submitted.
Most of us come to science for wrong reason i.e. 'seeking
the bread' and we stay in science for a worse reason i.e.
'seeking the power'.
Seeking truth and/or knowledge is rarely that important a
vocation for an Indian Students or Scientists.
Despite of huge increase in number of publications, the
quality of publications have declined steadily in the last
few decades.
Most of our PhD holders are Dean or principal of
universities, rather than practising research work.
Also most of the so-called research is simply imitation of
western work, or routine data cranking for data sake,
sometimes for national or multi-national companies in
areas like field trial, clinical trial, back office operations, IT
etc.
PhD should instead be treated as a reward for a person’s excellent contributions in the Research.
And not just another certificate on one’s resume, for the sake of higher employability.
6. Eradicating the Babu Culture Hindrance
Babu culture hinders research : Unlike any other institutions and organisations, this problem
persists in various research organisations too and is one of the most critical problems.
Transparency in Selection process
of leadership of various research
or academic institutions is utmost
important.
Researchers must have right to
express their views against their
babus, to central governing body.
Sycophancy should be checked in
all possible ways, by doing
Regular and Independent auditing
of the Research organisations.
There are a number of Indian politicians and scientists, who are
more bureaucrats than scientists occupying higher positions in
Indian science or research establishments.
There are again so many departments or institutions of higher
learning in this country, where there exists a strong correlation
between the cast, region, religion, language etc. of the person
heading the organization and the staff, is that a co-incidence?
Even if a young assistant works his days and night off to
develop a project, his senior publishes them as his research
paper, this is harsh reality but it actually happens, in such cases
why would someone wants to indulge himself in research?
7. Time to Ban the Campus Placement Drives
Our Youth(and their parents) dreams of IITs and IIMs, our so called best institutes, just to get
astronomical pay package at the beginning of the career.
Campus Placements initially proved a
boon for the college students allowing
them to find their deserving jobs right
inside their campus while pursuing their
degree course. Hence best students
used to be placed early.
Today, its other way round. The colleges
with more no. of company logos in its
hoardings attracts more no. of
admissions. Thus colleges have started
the fraudulent business by showing fake
placement results. It has kind of
transformed into a dirty business
strategy for advertising Pvt. colleges.
Innovation needs to be rewarded & needs a whole eco-system to take
an abstract idea to the market-place which is presently lacking in India.
Govt. should immediately ban the campus placement drives in order to
safeguard the educational eco-system of the colleges.
With no desire or greed of getting placed inside campus, students
would be more dedicated towards knowledge and innovation rather
than simply depending on college for being placed.
And with no more placement advertisements, colleges and educational
institutes will have to focus more on the innovation and research
related works so as to maintain its standard of teaching in edu biz.
P.s: Colleges should stay a place of higher education & research centre, and not transform into a Job Expo.
8. Promotion & Salary subject to Real Performance
Sharma ji is an employee in a govt. school. He arrives in the school sharp at 10 am(on time),
hardly takes a few class, drinks tea at nearest stall and spends the rest of the day chattering
with his colleagues. Why should his payment be incremented??
Indian govt. is very lenient in giving
salary to its employees without
accounting for his/her job performance,
which is popular in R&D departments
too.
Once employed, whether you work or
not, get your research papers published
or not, you get your salary and
increment automatically.
Unlike Govt. agencies, Pvt. Agencies
flourishes rather quickly just because
they monitor each of their employees
and keep a track of their performance.
First of all, Age based Promotions and Salary increments must
be abolished at the earliest, at least in R&D departments.
A monthly report of what all experiments were carried out,
must be prepared for each of the research members.
Salary increments and promotions must be strictly the issue of
higher work performance in the labs.
This will create a competitive environment among the
members and relatively increase the productivity too.
This system of promotion will attract the youths too to work
with more enthusiasm with their senior members.
A separate yearly audit by members of other research
institutions will help decide the flaws, if any.
9. Independent Labs for Unfortunate Research Aspirants
All over the world where every 7th person is an Indian, still India filed only 0.3% of the total
world patents in 2010. Its not just because Indians are not creative but they don’t have
access to the necessary resources, whether in college or at their workplace.
Independent labs if built in every state
might prove a boon to the young
researchers and innovative minds.
Any person interested in doing a
research work can apply to the labs
with his scientific model and
presentations which later if approved
by the organization, allows him to use
the lab along with the necessary
equipment, thus providing a financial
backbone too.
Proper monitoring is utmost required.
India is the land of a Billion Sparks, and all it lacks is proper
facilities for its citizens, be it because of corruption, scams or
insensibility of govt. towards the matter concerned.
Still there are a no. of candidates who want to dedicate themselves
for their research work but due to unavailability of proper labs,
they either drop out the idea or chase their dream in some other
nation, brain drain. We have already been unsuccessful in
minimizing the Brain Drain, now we are starving for Brain Gain.
Neither we have financial support for the research candidates to
assist them financially.
10. Involvement of Private sectors & business giants is also necessary
How much are big Indian companies responsible for poor show in research and Innovation?
The partnership which they can have with various colleges and universities is just missing.
Aren’t Indian companies just profit-seekers only??
There are a number of companies and
business giants in our country. Almost
every competitive company will have its
own research wing for the development
of its products, then why not associate
itself with colleges and universities. The
workshops and lab research conducted
under the companies professional
guidance will develop the students skill
meanwhile young talents will rejuvenate
the products of the company and help
in its research too.
Innovation needs to be rewarded & needs a whole eco-system to take
an abstract idea to the market-place which is presently lacking in India.
Give more tax incentives to the Pvt. sector for R&D. Most importantly,
educate the business leaders about the need for Innovation.
Make it compulsory for every company to collaborate each of its wing
with at least one of the college or university.
Research under a company must be included in every semester of the
courses of the colleges with one project each for every student.
11. • Independent labs will solve the financial and resource
problems of the research aspirants.
• Fresher and Innovative minds will have better
opportunities with Pvt. Sector’s active involvement in R&D.
• Most importantly, we will also be able to minimize Brain
Drain problem.
• Research papers will no longer be junk materials rather a
new innovation.
• We will thus have a number of inventions and innovations
each year from each university.
• Number of patents from our nation may outshine any
other country, considering the no. of universities we have.
• The whole idea will provide a new platform for our desi
Jugaad Tech.
The idea is completely feasible as India is the largest democracy
and we are already investing almost nothing, considering the
large educational infrastructure we have.
Impacts & Feasibility
Our Current Challenges
To convince the Govt. to invest more in
the R&D projects, not just in ISRO or IISc
but for other colleges and universities
too.
To encourage the Pvt. Sector companies
to participate with colleges and
universities for conducting research
workshops.
To give more tax incentives to
companies involved in R&D, by the govt.
To completely ban the campus
placement drives across the nation.
To completely revise the syllabus of
schools and colleges making it more
practical.
To encourage the students towards
more of the research work rather than
mugging up the textbooks.
