3. Training new Teachers

o 2011 – 2014 number of recorded vacancies doubled,
o The number of teachers leaving rose by 11%
o The proportion leaving for reasons other than retirement increased
from 64% to 75%
o These figures are higher in some geographical areas and subject
specialisms than others
o The Government has failed to reach its recruitment targets for the last
four years – for example, they were short of 1055 physics training
places

4. What is effective CPD? Collaboration leading to solidarity and accountability
5. Successful coaching is a whole school initiative
6. Too often, teacher learning is divorced from pupil learning
7. Need to claim OUR knowledge base – coaching is one way of doing this
8. Trust and relationships are key to effective coaching
