How would you describe your label
SAAI ?
Saai and ‘Sahar Atif’ are two multi facet labels which go
into mobilization depending on the nature of the project.
For most parts the brand Saai by Sahar Atif is all about a
creative force showcasing multiple collections at various
runways and retailing out of multi label stores and also a
private studio.
Saai collections are segmented into signature timeless
bridal wear and affordable off the rack convenient pret
solutions.
When it comes to various industry based projects Sahar
Atif will venture out alone lending her name and expertise
to provide design consultancy to other brands.
What is keeping you busy these
days? What projects are you
working on ? Please give us all the
details.?
Past few months the Saai studio has been buzzing about
ChenOne’swomen’s wear brand Pareesa and its various
collections. My heart and soul is into the project as I’m
not a believer of luxury pret.True pret is about affordable
clothing for the masses of Pakistan available nationwide.
Sahar Atif coming together with Pareesa is activating this
strategy.
Parallel to this I am very excited about working with a
buying house in Pakistan developing embroideries for a
huge USA home furnishing brand. I am looking forward to
getting into its production soon.
What do you feel is that extra that
your brand offers ?
The Saai studio is a cosy comfortable environment where
our prestigious clients are given a feeling that they are the
creators of their garment.
Client feedback tells us that it’s a great level of customer
service and comfort level they share with the Saai team,a
blend of friendliness and professionalism that they enjoy
the most.In such a competitive design environment.
What is a normal day for you like ?
My day starts very early with my children and in a very
domesticated way. After the children leave and I enjoy my
time to myself I delve right into some serious time spent
solely on thinking of work.If I manage to start my day in
such a way then I walk into the studio or the class room far
more focused and ready for action in the right direction.
We are a family oriented lot, so time away from home is
spent at work and evenings dedicated to the family.
How do you manage to strike a
balance between professional and
personal life ?
Multi-tasking is the name of the game. I normally divide
the academic year in such a way that the pressure is
neutrally balanced between home, Saai and teaching.
I take my holidays very seriously because I’m very aware
that it’s the fun time that keeps me charged and energised
as a professional and a happy mom.
What is your personal signature
style ?
Understated with a dash of spunk be it a hint of red lipstick
or a striking scarf or jewelry piece.
Some advice you would like to
share with the young, up and
coming designers ?
Never forget that all the glamour of the fashion
business does not come easy. It is result of long hours of
hard work, at times even in adverse circumstances.
What are your future plans ?
Just to have fun at work. It’s been great so far bound to
only get better!

On a local film set in Pakistan when

in Murder 3 , she said, “I hope and
pray that I am able to deliver what is
expected of me, because this is
Mahesh Bhatt’s son Vishesh’s debut
film and they both trust me. In India,
it’s the artist that matters, not his or
her nationality. As long as you know
your work, it pays off and is
recognized”.But she immediately she
became defensive saying “To make
a career in Bollywood, you need to
play all sorts of roles. With Vishesh,
it’s a different role and if Sanjay Leela
Bhansali or Manti Ratnam were to
offer me something, then it would be
entirely different too.They are catering
to an industry worth 1 billion people,
not just 160 million.”

compared with Adnan Sami
Khan because he is trained as
a musician, writes his lyrics,
composes music, produces
and sings”
Now that I have started singing, I know there is no turn-

Marie
Selena
Gomez
American, continues to make an impact as an actress,
singer, and fashion designer. Making her debut in
theatrical film Ramona and Beezus, she has done some
wonderful roles in feature films and also made an
impact by starring in television movies Another
Cinderrella Story and Wizards of Waverly Place.
Born in Grand Prairie,Texas to parents who were a mix of
Mexican and Italian descent,Selena was lured to act-
ing as she got a chance to watch her mother,Amanda
“Mandy”Teefey,who was a stage actress.Of course she
enjoyed a special bond with her mother,as her father
had chosen to part from the family when she was barely
five. And the mother took upon herself to groom this little
one into an actress right from the earlier years and as a
seven year old Selena Gomez was a part of Barney and
Friends, with more minor roles in Spy Kids 3-D,Game Over
and Texas Ranger.
Her career has expanded into the music
industry; Gomez is the lead singer and
founder of the pop band Selena Gomez &
the Scene, which has released three RIAA
Gold certified studio albums, Kiss & Tell, A
Year Without Rain, and When the Sun Goes
Down, spawned three RIAA Platinum certi-
fied singles, “Naturally”, “Who Says” and
“LoveYou Like a Love Song” and charted
four No. 1 Billboard Hot Dance Club Songs.
Gomez has also contributed to the sound-
tracks of Tinker Bell, Another Cinderella
Story, Wizards of Waverly Place, and Shake
It Up after signing a record deal with Holly-
wood Records.
In the year 2004, Disney Channel spotted and picked
up Gomez in a USA-wide scouting for acting talent. She
appeared as a guest star on The Suite Life of Zack & Cody
and this graduated into a recurring role – on Hannah
Montana from seasons two to three. This was followed by
Selena getting cast in the Disney Channel series Wizards
of Waverly Place as one of the three notable characters
and something really wonderful happened.
The show premiered
to an audience of 5.9
million,instantly becoming
a hit.However this was
accompanied by some
controversy as news
outlets dubbed Gomez
as the next ‘Miley Cyrus’.
Selena did not get upset by such uncalled for comparison
and avoided multiplying the controversy by saying that
she was flattered by the comparison and infact felt over-
whelmed and considered it a compliment.
From thereon Selena Gomez also diversified her-
self and expanded her career horizons by venturing
into the music industry.A pop band was formed with
Selena as the lead singer and her band continued its
progress under the banner Selena Gomez and the
Scene.Albums like Kiss and Tell ,A year without Rain
and When the sun Goes Down were released and
they became real hot.Earlier this had been preceded
by a cover of “Cruella de Vil”—which included
a music video—for the compilation album Dis-
neyMania 6. Gomez also recorded “Fly toYour
Heart” for the 2008 animated film Tinker Bell. In
July of the same year before Gomez’ sixteenth
birthday, she signed a recording deal
with Hollywood Records,
a music label owned by
Disney,bringing her fame
and money.
2012: Focus on film
It was in January 2012
that Gomez put her
music career on hold
in order to focus on
her acting career.“my
band and I are going
our separate ways for
a while”she said.”This
year is all about films
and acting and I want
my band to play music
wherever with whoever.
We will be back but, it
will be a good while.”
Thereafter Gomez was
cast in a number of
films. She first
appeared in Hotel
Transylvania, an
animated
film, voic-
ing the
character
of Mavis,
alongside
Adam San-
dler and Steve
Buscemi.The film
premiered at the
37th annual
Toronto Inter-
national Film
Festival and
was released
on Septem-
ber 21, 2012.
Next, Gomez
appeared in
the Harmony
Korine film
Spring Breakers
alongside James
Franco,a film that is
scheduled to be
released sometime in
spring 2013.More big
movies are in line and
2013 is expected to be
a huge one for Selena
Gomez.
Bipasha
BasuBipasha Basu entered the films arena after
achieving substantial success in model-
ling. The debut in films was an eventful
one through the movie Ajnabee.Though
the first role was a negative one ,it fetched
her the Filmfare Award for Best Female
Debut and thereafter there was no holding
her back from more significant roles.First
commercial success came via Raaz in the
year 2002 followed by the ample touch of
boldness in the erotic thriller Jism. These
ventures catapulted her to greater heights
and landed her in top grossing films like No
Entry,Phir Hera Pheri,Dhoom 2,regarded
as a super success,commercially and
Race. These films spanned the years 2005
to 2008 and won her acclaim as well as
praise from film critics. And the media was
totally lured to her because of her bold on
screen image and candid confessions of
her private life and most appropriately ,
labeled her as a sex symbol.

“Aah Bipasha! Looks
great, brings back the
bikini to Bollywood, and
gently slips into the
shadows as a pretty
accessory.
Bipasu is the daughter of a Bengali family who initially lived in
Delhi around the area known as Pampoosh Enclave, and her
early schooling was at Apeejay High School. The family subse-
quently moved to Kolkata where Bipasu actually grew up.Much
pampered as a kid,Basu carried the tomboy nature from the very
beginning and was naughty in a likeable sort of a way. Fondly
called ‘Lady Goonda’ in her school, she did command acceptance
amongst her school mates to an extent that some were even
scared of her.
A known model Mehr Jessia Rampal noticed Bipasu at a hotel
in Kolkata who asked her to take up modelling. It was in the year
1996 that she won the Godrej Cinthol Supermodel Contest and
later the Ford Models Supermodel of the World contest. Ford
Company took her to NewYork and she entered the realm of
modelling as a teenager barely 17 years old. She then appeared
in the Calida commercial with her teen age years boyfriend Dino
Morea which landed her in a controversy as the scenes were not
to some peoples liking. So much so that she was faced with
protests outside her home.
In 2003, Basu was part of Pooja Bhatt’s thriller, Jism,
which was acceptable to critics and did well at the box of-
fice. She played the role of a seductive, ambitious wife of
a millionaire who indulges in an extramarital affair with
an alcoholic lawyer and plots to kill her husband. Film
critic Taran Adarsh of Bollywood Hungama comment-
ed, “...the real show stealer is Bipasha Basu ; her
sexy look and seductive deep voice, in contrast with
her cold and calculating personality, makes her the
most impressive femme fatale since Zeenat Aman
and Parveen Babi. She received a Filmfare Best
Villain Award nomination for Jism.
Basu had four releases in 2004, all of which
performed moderately and drew mixed
reviews. She collaborated for the second
time with Vikram Bhatt in her first release
Aetbaar. She played the role of a young
woman who falls in love with a psycho-
path. One notable critic noted that “...The
characters are not convincing, the plot is
not fast-paced or interesting.” She then
starred in Rakht as a tarot card reader
trying to solve a murder mystery. Critic
Shruti Bhasin wrote, “Bipasha Basu
impresses in a different look and role.
Besides acting, Basu did the video “Tu”
for Sonu Nigam’s album, Kismat. She
made a guest appearance in Jay
Sean’s music video “Stolen.”
Bipasha Basu
continues to do
wonders at the
box office.And
why not,Bipasha
is alluring and

can ensure
fabulous
performances.

  • 9. How would you describe your label SAAI ? Saai and ‘Sahar Atif’ are two multi facet labels which go into mobilization depending on the nature of the project. For most parts the brand Saai by Sahar Atif is all about a creative force showcasing multiple collections at various runways and retailing out of multi label stores and also a private studio. Saai collections are segmented into signature timeless bridal wear and affordable off the rack convenient pret solutions. When it comes to various industry based projects Sahar Atif will venture out alone lending her name and expertise to provide design consultancy to other brands. What is keeping you busy these days? What projects are you working on ? Please give us all the details.? Past few months the Saai studio has been buzzing about ChenOne’swomen’s wear brand Pareesa and its various collections. My heart and soul is into the project as I’m not a believer of luxury pret.True pret is about affordable clothing for the masses of Pakistan available nationwide. Sahar Atif coming together with Pareesa is activating this strategy. Parallel to this I am very excited about working with a buying house in Pakistan developing embroideries for a huge USA home furnishing brand. I am looking forward to getting into its production soon. What do you feel is that extra that your brand offers ? The Saai studio is a cosy comfortable environment where our prestigious clients are given a feeling that they are the creators of their garment. Client feedback tells us that it’s a great level of customer service and comfort level they share with the Saai team,a blend of friendliness and professionalism that they enjoy the most.In such a competitive design environment. What is a normal day for you like ? My day starts very early with my children and in a very domesticated way. After the children leave and I enjoy my time to myself I delve right into some serious time spent solely on thinking of work.If I manage to start my day in such a way then I walk into the studio or the class room far more focused and ready for action in the right direction. We are a family oriented lot, so time away from home is spent at work and evenings dedicated to the family. How do you manage to strike a balance between professional and personal life ? Multi-tasking is the name of the game. I normally divide the academic year in such a way that the pressure is neutrally balanced between home, Saai and teaching. I take my holidays very seriously because I’m very aware that it’s the fun time that keeps me charged and energised as a professional and a happy mom. What is your personal signature style ? Understated with a dash of spunk be it a hint of red lipstick or a striking scarf or jewelry piece. Some advice you would like to share with the young, up and coming designers ? Never forget that all the glamour of the fashion business does not come easy. It is result of long hours of hard work, at times even in adverse circumstances. What are your future plans ? Just to have fun at work. It’s been great so far bound to only get better!

Bipasu is the daughter of a Bengali family who initially lived in Delhi around the area known as Pampoosh Enclave, and her early schooling was at Apeejay High School. The family subse- quently moved to Kolkata where Bipasu actually grew up.Much pampered as a kid,Basu carried the tomboy nature from the very beginning and was naughty in a likeable sort of a way. Fondly called ‘Lady Goonda’ in her school, she did command acceptance amongst her school mates to an extent that some were even scared of her. A known model Mehr Jessia Rampal noticed Bipasu at a hotel in Kolkata who asked her to take up modelling. It was in the year 1996 that she won the Godrej Cinthol Supermodel Contest and later the Ford Models Supermodel of the World contest. Ford Company took her to NewYork and she entered the realm of modelling as a teenager barely 17 years old. She then appeared in the Calida commercial with her teen age years boyfriend Dino Morea which landed her in a controversy as the scenes were not to some peoples liking. So much so that she was faced with protests outside her home. Film critic Taran Adarsh of Bollywood Hungama comment- ed, “...the real show stealer is Bipasha Basu ; her sexy look and seductive deep voice, in contrast with her cold and calculating personality, makes her the most impressive femme fatale since Zeenat Aman and Parveen Babi. She received a Filmfare Best Villain Award nomination for Jism. Basu had four releases in 2004, all of which performed moderately and drew mixed reviews. She collaborated for the second time with Vikram Bhatt in her first release Aetbaar. She played the role of a young woman who falls in love with a psycho- path. One notable critic noted that “...The characters are not convincing, the plot is not fast-paced or interesting.” She then starred in Rakht as a tarot card reader trying to solve a murder mystery. Critic Shruti Bhasin wrote, “Bipasha Basu impresses in a different look and role. Besides acting, Basu did the video “Tu” for Sonu Nigam’s album, Kismat.
