you still feel excited and nervous before
a film’s release?
The excitement is still there. I want each
release to be better than the previous
one. I’ve always been this commercial,
masala film heroine because I’ve grown
up watching them. I’m always excited
when a film with Aamir Khan, Salman
Khan or Shah Rukh Khan releases. I love
it. Now there isn’t much anxiety. It’s a lot
more easy and relaxed. I’m also much
more confident and secure now. Hon-
estly, I felt nervous only during my first
film Refugee.
Have you overcome the fear of failure?
After so many years of working and seeing so
many ups and downs, I’ve realised failures are a part
of the package. It’s part of the journey. Some films do well
and some films no matter how much effort you put in them, don’t
work. I’ve become immune to everything.

How has your equation with Salman
Khan changed over the years?
I’ve known him since I was nine. I’m 34
now. It feels like a lifetime. I’ve known
him since I was a child, a teenager, when
I became an actress… Now when I’m mar-
ried, we are still working with each other.
It’s been a lifelong journey with him and
his family. Earlier he made a smashing
pair with my sister Lolo (Karisma
Kapoor) and now we make a great pair. I
give full credit to him that he’s worked
with two generation of sisters with so
much ease. Back then people liked seeing
him with Lolo and now they like seeing
him with me. However, I know he has a
soft corner for Lolo. They started off at
the same time and have shared many
experiences together. They continue
being great friends.
You have worked with all the
three Khans – Aamir, Salman
and Shah Rukh. How are they
different from each other?
Salman is relaxed. Aamir is
relaxed too but he’s always pre-
pared. Shah Rukh is always
trying to better himself. He’s con-
stantly improvising the shot. He’s
such a bundle of energy that it’s
difficult for him to relax. Though
they are different from each
other, one thing is common
between all three. Working with
them is like being in a boxing
ring. You’ve got to be alert all the
time.

You rejected films Goliyon Ki
Raasleela: Ram-leela and Dil
Dhadakne Do. Any regrets?
I never look back. Sometimes
things don’t work out. Some-
times things work out great.
Ram-leela worked out won-
derfully for Sanjay Leela
Bhansali, Ranveer Singh and
Deepika Padukone. And I love
Zoya Akhtar and I want to
work with her. We both are
here and not going anywhere.

doors and good offers came in. I
went ballistic reading Udta
Punjab’s script.
Who will you pick as your
favourite actress of the cur-
rent generation?
I like Alia. She’s a cool chick
and she looks great. She’s
fantastic in both commercial
and offbeat films. She has a
good balance and there’s a
certain positivity about her.

Of course! I want to be a mother. I
wanted to be a star, I became
one. I wanted to be a wife, I mar-
ried Saif. Whenever I put my
mind on something, I achieve it.
Motherhood is a plan but it’s not
going to happen for the next two
years for sure. It actually scares
me right now. You have to be so
hands on ya. I’m so busy with my
films. I’m so busy travelling with
Saif. I need to fulfill all those
things first. I went full guns blaz-
ing for my career and I will go the
same way with parenting.
Usually, actresses reduce work post
marriage. But you are showing no signs
of slowing down…
I’m getting great films ya. I’ve just done
an item song with Sidharth Malhotra in
Brothers. I’m looking great, I’m feeling
great and it’s all rocking. It’s the Indian
mentality that women have to quit
working after marriage. I don’t believe in
it. We are a youth-centric nation. And I
can say I’m still young. I decided to get
married when I wanted to. If you love
someone you obviously want to be with
him. Marriage gives you the license to
stay with the one you love. I don’t
understand the fuss about married
actresses in our industry. I’m as inde-
pendent as I was earlier. Earlier I had
responsibility of my parents. Now I also
have of Saif. I love it. Marriage makes
me happy.
Do you plan to start your own family?

Comparing Alia and me is ridiculous. She’s
just 22. But I take it as a compliment. She’s
supremely talented. I’m extremely fond of
her.
Where do you see yourself five years from
now?
I will be doing an interview with you for sure.
Hopefully, I will be in a villa in South of
France and talking to you. But still working in
blockbusters…

for Dil Dhadakne Do?
When the praise comes from the industry
stalwarts, it feels amazing. When people
like Aamir Khan, Amitabh Bachchan, Aditya
Chopra, Rajkumar Hirani, Javed Akhtar,
Karan Johar, Anil Kapoor, Deepika Padu-
kone appreciate your work, it is extra spe-
cial. It’s because they are people whom you
respect and admire so much.
Which was the most difficult scene for
you to do in DDD?
The one before I jump off the cruise. There
is a very fine balance of emotion that had to
be there. And because the way it was shot,
I had to do it 60-80 times. Zoya (Akhtar)
usually looks out for actors and if it doesn’t
happen perfectly, we had no choice but to
do it again. It was a very crucial point in the
film for family dynamics. It was a fine bal-
ance that I had to maintain.
Who’s your favourite character from
the Mehra family?
Kamal Mehra (Anil Kapoor). Jhakaas!
There are actors who could have played
Ayesha (Priyanka Chopra), Kabir
(Ranveer Singh), Farah (Anushka
Sharma) but there was only one person
who could be Kamal Mehra. Of course,
he signed the film after me, I was the first
one to sign, but it was crystal clear in the
narration that only Anil Kapoor could
have done it. I knew even on paper that
he has the best part. Even if I keep my
personal affection for Anil Kapoor aside
and purely react to the piece of writing, I
enjoyed Kamal the most. He could be
such a douchebag and yet so loveable.
He’s so oblivious to everything else. His
heart is in the right place.
I’m very honest when it comes to cue
my co-actors. I give a full performance
each time, so to emote to that level over
60 times was very difficult.

audience; I love watching all the films. I hate it

thing, I’m looking forward to Bajirao Mastani,
which is coming this year.
My father is also complaining, as popular as I
am, nobody pays me that much of money. SLB
productions, Yash Raj Films, Excel – nobody
pays me money. When my time came, the
whole game changed. Producers are spiraling
their budgets; actors’ remuneration needs to be
curbed. I wanted to buy a sports car but meri
aukat nahi sports car kharidane ki.
but for me she is best as my sister. Who is
hotter between Deepika Padukone and
Priyanka Chopra in Bajirao Mastani?
Kashi (Priyanka) is the good wife; Mastani
(Deepika) is the seductress. They are playing
are different parts. One is homely and the other
is a warrior princess. One is khichadi and one is
a biryani. But it is a tadke wali khichadi. Lucky
Bajirao – he has hot wife and a hot girlfriend
(laughs).
One film you are looking forward to this year?
I’m looking forward to watch Tamasha and
Shandaar. I always look forward to watch
Ranbir Kapoor’s movies, Deepika’s movies,
Imtiaz’s movies. So definitely Tamasha is one
film I’m looking forward to.

You have bought a new house also…
It’s where I sleep, workout and do my physi-
otherapy. I felt like it will help in my work. Bajirao
is unpredictable; sometimes morning shoots,
sometimes I even have to wait for six hours. So I
have specifically designed that apartment to suit
my needs. It has everything.
I have taken up a house close to Film City. It’s a
temporary one for Bajirao Mastani. It’s an intense
film; I don’t want to live one and a half hour away
in Bandra. I save those two hours and I get to
sleep. I was supposed to get this place in Decem-
ber but it took a while. It’s almost like a workshop.

What’s next after Bajirao Mastani?
I don’t know. I’m very happy to be sitting with
an open date diary. Because the best films I
have been able to do is because I have my
dates in hand. So I rather sit with dates in hand
instead of full date diary.
What are you looking in films now?
Something lighter. I will go mad otherwise. My
head and my heart will burst. What I’m hoping to
do is an out-and-out comedy. DDD was a dram-
edy. I want to do pure comedy. I want to see that
how it works for me.

awards ceremony for the 1st nikon photo & film festival pakistan in
lahore at pearl continental hotel. The evening was attended by ac-

cool approach to style launched its AW15 Pre-Collection with World Boxing Champion
Amir Khan and his wife Faryal Makhdoom in Lahore. With the new collection, Pepe Jeans
London is keeping the men in its life warm this season with a combination of sportswear,
street-style, pop-art-inspired and easy, functional designs. Comfort, modernity and an
eclectic mix of graphics are key in creating this season’s contemporary wardrobe. In wom-
enswear wardrobe, Autumn/Winter 2015 is an eclectic and sophisticated season for the
Pepe Jeans London.Traditional British inspirations take on a new turn to make for creative
and assertive style. The evening was attended by select brand patrons, musicians and
members from the press.The event was managed by the JBnJaws Productions with Public
Relations by Amjad Bhatti.
While speaking on the occasion, champion boxer Amir Khan said:
“I love the Pepe Jeans style, I love the fit and I love that one of the best British brands
has opened its doors in Pakistan.”
Speaking on the arrival of Pepe Jeans latest collection, CEO Pepe Jeans Pakistan, Saad
