NavinWaqartalks about Film “Josh”
Navin Waqar, renowned for her work on TV and
Radio, is making her debut in film-making with Josh
the film (English Title: Against The Grain) which has
been showcased at the 14th Mumbai Film Fest
Josh is being screened in the world cinema
category of the festival and has already made
headlines both in Pakistan and across the border.
Q1:You have so far restricted yourself toTV
and radio assignments: what inspired you to
say yes to the film project Josh?
Initially I was not interested in doing a film project because
that’s is a whole different ballgame but when I read the
script, it was the message of Josh that led me to say yes.
It speaks of important issues and seemed like more than
just a film for the sake of film.
Q2:What for you is the Josh of Josh?
The ability to take a stand. I think that’s something a lot of
people don’t tend to do out of fear or suppression. Josh for
me is all about fighting the power.
Q3:What can you tell us about your character
I play Ayla who is a reporter for a youth channel and is
friend’s with Aamina’s character.
Q4:You were working with a truly stellar cast
including Aamina Sheikh, Mohib Mirza, Khalid
Malik, Parveen Akber and more. How was the
experience filming with these seasoned ac-
I have been lucky to have worked with quite a few sea-
soned actors in the two projects I did before Josh so this
was an added bonus. It was a wonderful experience. When
you are around people who know the industry better than
you because of their experiences, there is so much to
learn. It was a relief to see how everyone was so profes-
sional and humble at the same time.
Q5: Do you plan to do another film after Josh,
or was this a one off?
At the moment no. I am not really racing towards doing
films, I am very happy with the work I have been doing on
TV. If there will be a film, I will be more than just an actor in
it hopefully; maybe a producer or writer as well.
Q6:You tend to be extremely selective about
the work you do onTV: are you only interested
in particular types of roles?
Not at all. I take up roles that are a challenge and have
something to say. I want to be able to do every role as an
actor; I don’t want to be a type cast. The character has to
be appealing or challenging for me to say yes to it.
Q7: How did you feel when you found out that
Josh was being screened at the 14th Mumbai
Film Festival, one of the region’s most prestig-
It felt wonderful and I am very excited as to how it will be
received. I am hoping it will make strong waves as a film in
whole and that the message in Josh will be appreciated.
Q8: Have you seen Josh on the big screen
yet: are you anxious, worried, nervous about
watching yourself on the big screen?
I haven’t seen it on big screen yet and honestly I
am slightly nervous about it. I am always a bit
nervous when it comes to watching myself
on TV as well because I always feel like I
could’ve done better and then beat myself
up about it.
Q9: How was the mood on the
It was professional and a lot of fun!
The entire cast and crew was like
one huge family, always laughing or
playing music or singing or cracking
jokes and at the same time get-
ting work done.There was never
a dull moment.We worked long
hours but everyone on set was in
such amazing spirits that it never
Q10: How was the experience
of working with first time
film-producer and director Iram
Iram is a sweetheart and a wonderful
human being. She has this amazing
energy about herself and is absolutely
clear on what she wants which is a
dream come true for an actor. Her pos-
itivity is contagious and what I admire
about her is that she was constantly
on her feet running around, making
Josh happen. It was quite honestly
her passion for Josh that got me
onboard this project.
Humaima Malick Wins
South Asia Rising Star
Encounters A Road
The awards were part of 9th annual South Asian International Film
Festival; the largest entertainment gala related to South Asian
entertainment industry to be held in the United States, organised in
collaboration with HBO.
Nine categories had been announced in accordance with the 9th
anniversary of SAIFF, NewYork for the first edition of awards. The
award ceremony was hosted by Indian actress Sunny Leonne
and US filmmaker Jay Chandrashekar, while the star studded jury
included American actress and musician, Janina Gavankar; Indian
film critic, Rajeev Mansand; front-man of Goldspot and singer/song-
writer, Siddhartha Khosla; and American actor, Maulik Pancholy.
Humaima’s uncanny and often tear-jerking portrayal of Zainab touched the hearts of millions both in the national and
international community. It solidified her transition from a model to a dedicated actress with serious acting chops. Not
many could have pulled off a role which required her to go au naturel alongside other well known female actresses, yet
she outshone them all.
On her way from Lahore to Sialkot
for photo shoot, the leading Pakistani
fashion model Mehreen Syed
encountered a road accident.
Just a few weeks back fashion designer Saim Ali was
involved in a road accident too and now this hot fash-
ion deva comes across one.Luckily the injuries were
minor and after emergency first aid in hospital, she was
discharged and sent home.
Mehreen Syed is known for her ravishing catwalk and
modeling excellence; mostly being showstopper for
Pakistan’s top fashion designers on runways like PFDC
Fashion Pakistan Week 2012 and PFDC L’Oreal Paris
Bridal Week 2012.
The Young Couple Syra Yousuf And Shehroz
Sabzwari Tie The Knot
Nadia Khan’s Husband Controverts Her
The cute young stars from Pakistan’s drama
industry, SyraYousuf and Shehroz Sabzwari are
now husband and wife after tying the knot in a
private Nikah ceremony.
Recently, in a small gathering of friends and family the sweet couple
SyraYousuf and Shehroz Sabzwari signed their nikah papers to tie the
beautiful and eternal matrimonial bond.Shehroz Sabzwari, the son of
Behroze Sabzwari, is known for appearing in many television plays such
as “Ana”, “Vanee”, “Maamta”, “Karachi High”, “Badtameez”, “Parsa”,
“Kuch Dil Ne Kaha”, and “Don’t Jealous” and for successful Ufone com-
mercials.Whereas, SyraYousuf started her career as a VJ and then her
acting debut from the play “Mera Naseeb”. Few days back, at the set of
‘Good Morning Pakistan’, Behroze Sabzwari delightedly announced his
son Shehroz Sabzwari’s wedlock with SyraYousuf. The couple Shehroz
Sabzwari and SyraYousuf will also be seen together in their upcoming
play “Tanhaiyaan Naye Silsilay.”
Famous morning show host Nadia Khan has recently divorced
her husband Khawar Iqbal, but Khawar Iqbal has been defiant
and refused to accept divorce saying Nadia Khan’s divorce
rights are against Islamic laws.
Nadia Khan, who is known for her frank candid
straightforward style, has filed divorced against
her husband Khawar Iqbal whereas he has
challenged the marriage certificate in the court,
arguing that the wife can’t give divorce to her
husband but can demand divorce from her
according to the Islamic law.Whereas, Nadia Khan
had got a provision in her marriage certificate according
to which she can divorce her husband anytime without his
consent. But Khawar Iqbal has claimed that the provision in the
marriage certificate is against Islamic marriage laws.
To resolve the matter, a bench of three members Justice
Shahzad Sheikh, Justice Fida Muhammad Khan and Justice
Arshad Jahangir, was constituted by the court. They heard the
Nadia Khan divorce case pleaded by advocate Arshad Kayani.
The next date of the case hearing remains undisclosed.

It is generally considered that bags we wear during fall and
winter should be simpler, darker and more practical. But
that doesn’t mean they have to be boring, does it? See the
list of amazing Fall/ Winter bag trends and get inspired!
They are not very practical and are hardly versatile but
no one can deny fur bags look luxurious, and that’s what
many of us would give everything for. Fall/ Winter fur bags
come made of various types of fur, there is genuine and
fake fur, short-haired and long-haired, colorful and even
printed fur. Besides, you can find plenty of bag styles
which can come made of fur or trimmed with it.
Despite the fact color is not a priority when bags for fall
and winter seasons are created, designers do like to add
some diversity to their collections. So, don’t get surprised
if you see a couple of really bright handbags in a rather
Roomy bags have always been popular with women with
busy schedules, those who have to do a few things and be
at different places at the same time. If you are the one who
has to work, attend a dance class, take your kids to school
and fulfill a great number of other daily duties, you will be
glad to know that your huge bag that holds everything you
might need during a day is now trendy.
Yes, a contrast again. Designers like to play
with us. Nevertheless, tiny bags are perfect
for going out, romantic dates and other
occasions you need to have just a phone and
lipstick. Some bags are just small while others are
really tiny, like those in Dolce & Gabbana Fall/ Winter
They have been very trendy during Spring/ Summer 2012
and seem to have transitioned to Fall/ Winter. But shoulder
bags didn’t come without changes. They have become
smaller and have more defined geometric shapes and
lines than before.
Leather is in fashion now, no matter whether you like it
or not. But if you can’t imagine yourself wearing genu-
ine leather, try fake one instead. There are a lot of at-
tractive pieces made of fake leather now and some look
even better than those made of real skins.
Clutches are not actually a Fall/ Winter trend. They are a
universal trend, which appeared a few years ago and is
still very popular with fashionistas. Simpler and more el-
egant clutches can be worn on the daily basis while those
embellished with crystals and sequins or adorned with
embroidery are for special occasions only.
As you can see the number of Fall/ Winter bag trends
is much lower than those for Spring/ Summer 2012.
However, there is still a lot to choose from. Good luck,
our dear readers! Stay with us and get fresh
information about fashion and trends every day!
