2. How effective is the
combination of your main
product and ancillary texts?
My project comprises of our music video, Digipak and
advert. These are methods of marketing the song
Same Love and this all had to link to the target
audience who listen to hip hop music. My music video
shows the protagonist and his love interest holding
hands, so we wanted to interpret that onto our poster
and digipak, hence why I decided to put a picture of 2
hands connecting with one another.

3. Does it fulfil its purpose?
For me, I think that the Digipak fulfils its purpose as all the codes and
conventions are held, including the track list, album title and the music
artist's name. I also, made sure to properly promote the album in the
Digipak rather than just having Macklemore’s face on the front, I wanted
my Digipak to link with my music video and for it to send out a message
to my target audience . I then created a music video where the visuals
and narrative related strongly to the lyrics of the song. By using a male
actor as the main character and going by the lyrics and the stereotypes
suggesting that he is a 'homosexual‘, I felt that it was a good way to
portray a message to the audience. There is a point in the music
video, where he gets so frustrated that people at school are looking
down on him, because of who he is, that he gets really angry and starts
kicking a bin around to let out all of his anger.

I do think that the advert has actually fulfilled its purpose because, it
really sells the Digipak to the audience because it features a preview of
the actual album and the song, which is Same Love. Without advertising
and reaching out to the audience with the digipak and the poster, the
target audience may not hear about the song, so it’s good that there is
different advertisements you can use to sell the product.

5. Would it be appropriate
for your target audience?
I believe that my album cover is appropriate for my target audience, as it has 2
hands about to connect with one another. I wanted to have that as my album
cover, as I felt that the protagonist and his love interest stand against everyone
else and what the think and they have a strong bond and connection and no-
one can break that no matter what.
Being different is good and that not any 2 people in the world are the same.
We put across a unique and a story telling image, rather than a picture of the
music artist himself.

My target audience are teenagers and young adults and my song/music
video is all about equal rights, so I decided to have two male hands
about to hold hands on the cover of the digipak; I wanted to put a
message across that not everyone likes the same things and that it's
okay to be different. The image is in black and white and I felt by the
image being black and white, it makes it extra clear that love should be
appreciated and shown to the world and it couldn’t be clearer than that.

7. How does your album
advert combine with your
Digipak?
By creating subtle links between my music video and Digipak design, it
allowed me to create a theme, for example the idea of having the
protagonist and the protagonist’s partner holding hands in the video, we
interpreted that onto our album cover and digipak advert, with the
hands of 2 males about to connect and share a bond. The Digipak
combines with the album advert because they both use the same
imagery background, colour scheme and font style. I decided to make
them both quite similar, so that the target audience can grasp the
message that I am trying to send out. I also, used pretty much the same
colours (black and white) as I wanted to keep one theme flowing and
not change it up completely. I wanted it to be simple and not too many
colours flying round, so that’s why I stuck to black and white.

8. How have you created a
brand identity across your
music video, Digipak and
advert
I used a specific brand identity, I noticed that in Macklemore’s actual video it
starts off with a young male trying to accept and come to terms with who he is
and he grows older he finally accepts it and gets married to his partner. In my
video, I decided to follow a similar story as the protagonist was struggling to
come to terms with who he is and he was having a hard time accepting
himself, just like in the actual video. I thought it was a good idea to tell a story
through my music video, just like the actual one because the meaning behind
the song is very deep and sensitive, so that’s why I wanted to show that in my
video.

9. Overall View?
Overall, I am really happy with both the ancillary texts and the music
video, I feel that the combination of all the products portray our
improved media skills. I feel that since AS I have improved my skills and
knowledge a lot and I think it has shown through my music
video, creating a digipak and advert and my blog itself.
