Using UMBC’s GiveCorps Platform
as a Student Organization
+
What is GiveCorps?
 UMBC’s GiveCorps is a new project-based crowdfunding
platform that is available to help student organizations engage
in transformational work
 Does your club or organization need funds to carry out a
project, trip, or initiative this year? UMBC’s Annual Giving team
will train your group on how to successfully reach your goal
using the platform.
 UMBC’s Engineers Without Borders, Down and Dirty Dog
Band, Society of Automotive Engineers, and Alternative Spring
Break Projects have all received some funding from students,
alumni, parents, faculty, and staff who have connected with
projects through GiveCorps.
+
What Types of Projects Can Use
GiveCorps?
 UMBC’s GiveCorps supports a number of student-based
initiatives affiliated with the University. All funds raised should
benefit UMBC’s students or campus in a direct way.
 In addition, the strongest candidates for the program are:
1) A great story
2) A UMBC-recognized student organization
3) A strong leadership team
4) An active community of students, alumni, and parents
+
What Does UMBC’s GiveCorps Program
Cost?
 The cost of using UMBC’s GiveCorps is covered completely by
the University.
+
How are Donations Processed?
 100 percent of all funds raised by your campaign will be
directed to your account, even if you do not reach your goal.
 Unlike other crowd funding platforms, the UMBC Foundation
doesn’t keep a percentage of the funds you raise. There are no
program costs or fees charged to your team.
+
What Type of Training Can You Receive?
 UMBC’s Annual Giving team is committed to training and
educating groups on how to be effective fundraisers so they are
adequately prepared to launch their campaigns.
 The Annual Giving team will provide Champion Training,
designed to help project members understand crowd funding,
how to use the GiveCorps technology, and what will be
expected of them during the fundraising campaign.
+
What Are Champions and How Many Do
We Need?
 Champions are people who volunteer to fundraise on behalf of
a particular fundraising campaign.
 The more champions you have, the more likely it is that you will
reach your goal. It is recommended that you have at least ten
(10) Champions to launch a campaign.
+
How Can My Organization Create a
GiveCorps Project?
1) Visit: https://umbc.givecorps.com
2) Click on “Start a Fundraising Page” and tell the Annual Giving
team about your project (You should know how much you want to
raise and when you need the funding; you should also be able to
explain how you’ll use donations)
3) Work with UMBC Annual Giving Staff to edit/refine your project
and to learn about ways to make your project a success
4) Launch your project!
