2. Questionnaire
A questionnaire is a set of questions that are written down
and given to a set of participants.
The questions are usually in a fixed order and everyone
answers all of the questions.
So they know what to do they are given Standardised
Instructions. This makes sure all the participants are
treated I the same way.
3. Closed Questions
Really simple,
They have a fixed number of possible answers.
Participants often just tick a box.
They produce numerical data.
Answers can be tallied to give totals for each answer.
E.g. Are you afraid of Spiders Yes or No
Write down 2 closed questions asking about a person’s TV viewing
habits.
4. Open ended Questions
Used when needing more detail.
Participants are asked for description.
Produce more in-depth answers than closed questions.
Answers help look for patterns, similarities between people or as
examples.
E.g. How do you feel when you hold a spider?
Write down two open questions asking about opinions on TV
violence
5. Rank style
Asks participants to say how much more or less things are.
This can be done in a number of ways.
Putting a list in order.
Give each animal a number 1 t o 4. 1 most scary to least scary.
Or choosing an option in a list which is in order
Which one best decribes how you feel about beetles:
I like them
I don’t really like them
I don’t mind them
I really hate them
Write down two rank style questions about opions on film or computer
game age certification.
6. Likert-type scale
Participants asked to judge how much they agree with a
statement.
Used to measure peoples attitudes.
Snakes move suddenly
Strongly agree, agree, undecided, disagree, strongly disagree
Participants chose one answer on the scale
Equal number of statements that express a positive and negative
view
To work out results answers are given a number
Strongly agree, agree, undecided, disagree, strongly disagree
