Newton’s Laws of Motion By: Chelsey Kilburn And Lyndsey Rawls
Issac Newton Sir Issac Newton was an English scientist who made great contributions to physics, optics, math, and astronomy. He is best known for his three Laws of Motion.
Newton’s First Law OfMotion Newton’s First Law of Motion is also known as The Law Of Inertia. “An object at rest, stays at rest, and an object in motion, stays in motion, unless acted on by an unbalanced force” “Inertia is a property of matter”
Examples of Newton’s First Law- In the first illustration, the car is accelerating at a speed of 60 mph. There is a wall in the path of the car, which the car will run into, and the wall will force the car to decelerate (slow down, or stop moving). In the second illustration, the car hit the wall on the path. The car stops, but the driver continues to move forward, because there was nothing to stop him from moving.
Newton’s Second Law ofMotion Newton’s Second Law of motion is also known as The Law of Acceleration. Second Law Formula:F=mxa “Acceleration is produced when a force acts on a mass. The greater the mass, the greater the amount of force is needed to move/accelerate the object”
Examples of 2nd Law In the picture to the right, The man is trying to push the large truck. The truck doesn’t budge, because there is not enough force to make it accelerate. The example below, represents the formula of the 2nd law; F=mxa . Force is pushing the m with great force, causing it to accelerate(a) forward.
Newtons Third Law of Motion Newtons Third Law of Motion is also known as The Law of Action and Reaction Forces “For every action, there is an equal and oppositereaction”
Examples of 3rd Law In the example to the left, the balloon is being pushed upward, because of the air rushing out of the bottom of it pushes the balloon upward.
