3. A new study shows that road accidents are the main cause
of death for young people, regardless of the level of
economic welfare of each country. An astounding 31 per
cent of all road deaths worldwide are adolescents and
young adults aged 15-29. This translates into more than
400,000 lives lost annually, a number exceeding the deaths
of young people caused by illness, drug use, suicide,
violence or war related events.

4. Whether a new death from accident occurs in
a country of low, medium or high income does
not play any role. According to scientific
research the death rates of young people from
road accidents show little differentiation,
reaching 31.5% in low-income countries,
32.0% in middle-income countries and 28.5%
in high-income countries.

6. Every year, nearly 1.3 million people die due
to road accidents, and more than 50 million
are injured, making road safety a particularly
important global issue. Per 100,000
inhabitants, 18 are killed in road accidents.
This places death by road accident on the 9th
place on the list of leading causes of death,
according to the latest WHO World Road
Report. Recent developments, however,
show that it will become the world's fifth
leading cause of death worldwide by 2030
unless appropriate compensation measures

7. Greece has 12.2 road deaths per 100,000
inhabitants. This puts the country in the last
place among the countries of the European
Union. The country at the top of the list is
Sweden with just 3 road deaths per 100,000
inhabitants. Worldwide, the highest rates are
in the Dominican Republic (41.7), Thailand
(38.1) and Venezuela (37.2).
