1. Jessica Jackson
Argosy University
Psychology Department
In the following paper I will discuss what I have learned during these the past few years as a student at Argosy University. I will also touch on how I have attempted to overcome my weaknesses I have had while attempting to get my bachelors degree in psychology.
The biggest thing I have learned during these years is that it is okay not to know something. I felt at first like if I didn’t know something that it wasn’t meant to be. I felt that the inability to perform that certain task at that point meant I was incapable, but it just meant I had to work harder and pay more attention. I decided to become a psychologist for two reasons, one because I wanted to help people and two to learn how the mind really works. I am glad to have been am student at Argosy University and have had the opportunity to learn as much as I have learned from them. I look forward to continuing my education with them. The knowledge I have obtained is sure to prepare me for the career goal I intend to pursue.
Prior to attending Argosy, I had never thought that I could obtain the proper education from an online school. I had taken online classes before, but not as in-depth and as explanatory as the courses at Argosy. I now believe that with the right guides and set up an online education is just as beneficial as an on campus education. Argosy gave to the equipment to expand and improve myself mentally. Not only does this environment place the momentum to learn on the student, it also offers students the flexibility they need to participate in their own education at their own pace. Being able to go at my own pace allowed me time to develop in the areas I needed to develop in.
As I reflect upon on my strengths and weaknesses as related to my education, I feel that have overcome a lot of obstacles and I have discovered what I am good at and what I am not. One of the problems I first encountered during my course of study was dealing with the mathematical situations because math is my weakness. In a traditional classroom the teacher is always physically present, so if there is an immediate need he or she is usually immediately accessible in one way or another. This problem was less and less of an issue the more I devoted myself to the course of study and in time I caught on and was able to move forward. When I took my first math related classes there was an adjustment period, but as time progressed, I learned the techniques I needed and was able to move forward in the courses at a steadier pace. I think this was a good learning experience. Sometimes we hit a rock will in school and let that deter us, but I was able to move past that. As a student, I found that it was important to work adamantly to find solutions to problems.
While math is my weakness, I have strengths have been improved upon over this course of time. My strength has always been my ability to write what I am feelings or want others to understand. During my studies I have developed upon that strength and have been able to write more clearly. Since writing and research is such a bid part of the psychology profession, mastering these techniques is essential. I have learned how to understand the importance of the APA format and the importance of it. The key to writing is knowing what you are writing about. I have been able to gain knowledge of the theories in psychology and understand their uses and processes behind the founding’s of the theories.
I have learned over my lifetime that learning is key and is essential to our development. From the time we are born to the time we die, we embark on a learning journey. Our experiences in life are important to our development. I have learned from many individual like my teacher to my little brother and I understand that there is always something more to learn. My education is a part of me that continues with time an without it I am incomplete.
