2. John Milton
• John Milton was an
English poet,
• Man of letters,
• A civil servant for the
Commonwealth of
England under Oliver
Cromwell
• Milton has taken story
from the Bible about
the fall of men and
describe it in
“Paradise Lost”
3. Who is ?
• Eve
• Eve is known as Adam's
wife and the first woman
although she is not
specifically named in the
Quran. According to the
second chapter of
Genesis, Eve was
created by God by taking
her from the rib of Adam,
to be Adam's companion.
• Lilith
• Lilith was the first woman
to exist in the world,
created by God in the
genesis of the world at
the same time as the first
wife of Adam.
4. Lilith and Eve in The Bible
• Lilith said: “I will not lie
below you.”
• Adam said, “I will not lie
below you, but above
you. For you are fit to be
below me and I above
you.”
• She responded: “We are
both equal because we
both come from the
earth.”
• Neither listened to the
other. When Lilith
realized what was
happening, she
pronounced the Ineffable
Name of God and flew off
into the air.
• Eve’s creation in Genesis not
only reveals her relationship with
Adam, but also her status as a
woman. Unlike Lilith, Eve is not
formed from the same material
as Adam.
• Her creation from Adam’s side
or rib suggests that she is inferior
to her mate, an argument that is
found in many midrashic and
early Christian writings to justify
the inferior status of women.
5. Eve in Paradise Lost”
• Eve becomes more than just
the mother of mankind and
• Adam’s wife of “ Paradise lost’’ this
image of dynamic Eve by saying ‘
Despite the
fact’ that the Milton was
constrained by hierarchical culture
assumption the women and
marriage , his Eve is in some
respect
an emergent female figure in ‘ the
seventeenth century’. Eve character
in Paradise lost suprasses that
of Eve’s character in the story
of Genesis.she has independent ,
intelligent character not
mentioned in Genesis.
6. LILITH – Adam’s First Wife Was
NOT Eve And The Bible Hide It
Lilith was more intelligent, stronger and
because she did not obey Adam’s commands.
In the bible this important character was
removed to understand the origin of the
humanity, because what Lilith represented was
against the traditional idea of the church in
which the woman must be submissive to the
man and to obey him, thus putting her in a
lower position.
7. Similarity of paradise lost’s Eve &
Bible’s Lilith
• Independent
• Equal to Adam
• Both are Dethroned Goddesses.
• Argumentation
