How do the elements and principles work together to create a particular feeling or message?<br />100 points<br />EXAMPLE:<br />Elements of Design<br />Line:<br />The most prominent lines in this photograph are the diagonal ones formed by that of the arms leading from the lower right side of the frame and continuing around the back of the man head then back down diagonally to the lower left corner of the frame. There are also many more delicate lines formed by the wrinkles upon the sheets of the bed and upon his face.<br />Color:<br />The colors in the photograph are very muted and cool. The peachy color of the man’s skin is the most prominent contrasting slightly with the pale blue grey and white of the man’s clothing and the sheets upon the bed. The overall color scheme gives the photo a very serene feel.<br />Shape:<br />The shape of the man in this photograph forms a triangle between the man’s head left arm and right elbow in the center of the frame. The man’s body is also framed by the billowing shape of the white sheets and clothing worn by the man. There is also the rounded shape of the bald head of the man paired with the roundness of his glasses.<br />Texture:<br />The texture in this photograph is very soft. The main texture found in this photograph is the one created by the formation of the wrinkles in the sheets along with that of the wrinkles upon the man’s skin.<br />Illusion of Space:<br />The depth of the illusion of space in this photograph seems shortened by the white sheets, which are found in both the foreground and background of the photograph. <br />Illusion of Motion:<br />There appears to be no real motion within the frame. The man is very sleep and peaceful as he sleeps.<br />Principals of Design<br />Unity:<br />The scale and location of the man within the frame give contribute greatly to the sense of unity with the photograph. The simplicity of the background and foreground along with add to this sense of unity.<br />Emphasis:<br />The focal point of emphasis of this photo is the head and face of the man. The man’s head is framed by the lines upon the sheets and the positioning of his arms and body. <br />Scale:<br />The scale of the man the man within the frame appears to be fairly well proportioned. Nothing appears over or undersized distracting away from the rest of the image.<br />Balance:<br />Overall the photograph is well balanced. The man with the center of the frame is balanced out by the soft sheets that frame him from both above and below.<br />Rhythm:<br />A sense of rhythm in given by the pattern found upon the hospital gown of the man. There is also some rhythm to the wrinkles found throughout the image.<br />Summary<br />The photographer used the positioning of the man’s body and the muted colors to give a peaceful of restful feel to the image. All the other objects within the frame surround the man with a billowy cloud like feel. There is no motion within the frame which adds to the serenity of the image in which everything appears to be at rest. This all ads to the sense of stillness and peace the photographer wished to convey.<br />
