1. Script for micro analysis
Camera: The scene starts with an Establishing mid shot it Pans
slightly and stops before the camera switches angle to what the
protagonist is looking at. The pan as well as the establishing shot sets
the scene. The mid shot creates curiosity as this is an unusual
location but the audience can only see the surrounding being him
from chest upwards.
Sound: The non-diegetic dramatic music fades in as the protagonist
turns his head. This builds up tension
Editing: The colour is very dark and gloomy and may have been
enhanced to create a gloomier atmosphere. The starting scene is
short, this is done to create action and to keep the narrative moving.
Mis en scene: The lighting is low key, this suggests that something
life threatening will happen and that the protagonist is walking into
danger.
The Protagonist is also wearing what looks like a trench coat over the
top of a shirt and tie. This implies that he is important.
2. Camera: the close up of the protagonist scraping the wall is intriguing
there is also a shadow depth of field. This would focus the audience
in on the hand. This technique is used again when the protagonist
identifies a clue.
Sound: the non-diegetic music continues but is more dominant but
cuts out when the women scrapes the wall and creates screeching
sound. This would engage the audience as the sound would unease
most.
Editing: The action which is around the women being dragged up the
stair slows down. This is used as it shows the protagonists thoughts
of past events this could give the audience the idea that the
protagonist maybe so sought of detective looking at clues. It
reinforces my idea that he is an important person. The diegetic
sound of the screaming slows down with the pace of the video clip.
This reinforces my point that this part is his thought process.
Mis en scene: The lighting is low key, this makes atmosphere more
spooky and dangerous. This also could have been altered in the
editing process.
That fact that the protagonist is quick and prepared for all weathers
makes him look strong and defiant.
3. Camera: There was a close up of the protagonist. His faceal
expression made him look determind and slighlty angery. This builds
up the action and tension for the audience. The action cuts to a room
where the women has been taken by the antagonists. The camera
pans the room quickly before changing angle to look at the door. This
quick change of action will keep the audiances attention.
Sound: Non diegectic heroic music builds up when the camera is
filming the protagonists face but cuts out in the next scene where its
quite untill the diegetic sweeking of thre door opening.
Editing: The cuts are quite quick this creates action, this again keeps
audience ingaged.
Mis en scene: The living space where the women is held captive is
well lit. The room is has a retro feel and modernised with its décor.
4. Camera: The extreme close ups of the gun, blood stained ring and
the women’s injuries are shown to the audience in this way as these
images are key to the storyline. The shadow depth of field shot is
used when showing the antagonist being targeted, this technique is
used to make the antagonist look more evil on a dark background
plus he is drawn into attention of the audience.
Sound: There is diegetic sounds of talking between the antagonist
and the protagonist as well as the mumbling from the women. As
soon as the shots turn into close ups the non-diegetic dramatic music
fades in. A radar like sound fades in when the targets appear on the
antagonists face.
Editing: The point of view shot in which the protagonist looks
antagonist appear robotic as target points come up on the antagonist
weak points. The cuts are spread out in terms of length. This builds
up tension. The room is made dark during some of the close ups by
using editing techniques.
Mis en scene: The women’s casualties are show to the audience such
as her damaged arm, ripped top and blood stained ring. Which
shows the audience that she has been beaten up by the antagonists.
As well as this that fact that she appears to be an older women the
crime looks worse as the elderly are weak and vulnerable.
The extreme close up of the antagonist holding the gun is shown to
imply danger.
5. Camera: Previously there was a mid-shot of the protagonist as he is
walking backwards away from the antagonists. This was done to
show that the protagonist is observing the room to asses any danger
like a hostage situation. Where I have paused is a long shot. This
shows the protagonist opening his arms surrendering to the
protagonist.
Sound: The women who is held hostage is still whimpering and
whining this shows that she is distressed.
Editing: The cuts are very slow this is used to build up tension
6. Camera: wide angle shot of the street. This was used to introduce a
new location. We are introduced to an urban city, where there has
been a women taken hostage and people are busy getting on with
their lives. The story becomes scarier as the environment is realistic.
Sound: Non diegetic music starts to start this scene. This music is
relaxed but also intriguing as the previous scene was action packed.
The diegetic car engine is also heard as well as the music, as the new
character gets out of the car the door is then slammed shut. This is a
diegetic sound. The sound would have been included to make the
film more realistic. Also the tone of the music suggests the newly
introduced character is also a protagonist.
Editing: The shot where the car drives into the parking space is
longer than in comparison to the previous scene. The director may
have done this to indicate to the audience that the film may be
nearly finished.
Mis en scene: The lighting is high key which creates a brighter tone
however it is overcast which keeps the atmosphere serious.
