2. Who would be the audience for your
media product?
Main target audience ā 15-25
The main target audience, who I will main be counting on to come and watch
my opening scene/film will be between 15-25 years olds who will mostly be
males, I decided that this would be my main target audience because most
Sci-fi/thriller films have a minimum age of 15 to go and see them at the cinema,
in addition to this they are also the audience that mostly goes to watch films at
the cinema. As we can see from the table 98,664 men rated the film, to the
13,749 women who rated it. This is why I chose the male market to aim for with
my film The younger part of the audience is influenced by the violence and the
unnatural or ānot normalā images of a Sci-fi film, and they will try and āshow ofā
to their friends by saying they have been to see this film. They will also be able
to relate to my main character as he is the same ages as most of the viewers
will be and they will be able to put themselves into the position of the
character.
3. Sub-target market ā 26-35
In addition to this I will also have a sub-target audience of 26-35, but this
will be more aimed at couples as traditionally more couples that want to go
out for a date or just to go out for an evening together and go watch a film.
However some of my older audience will be put off by some of the
āunnaturalā or unrealistic images on screen. Going out to watch a film is
also a cheap way to have an evening out and is accessible for any
audience. Lastly I will have some older viewers just enjoy watching Sci-fi
films that just enjoy going to watch my film to enjoy these kind of images
and the whole Sci-fi theme of my film, they will be the audience who will
have enjoyed Sci-fi films in the past and will want to continue to watch
them as the newer films come out. However these conventions of a sci-fi
may put off older viewers as they will find them to be stupid or too
unrealistic.
4. How did you attract/address your
audience?
To attract my target audience I tried to add as many of the key conventions
for a Sci-fi film as this will entice my audience to come and watch my film
as they know what to expect when they come and watch my film. This will
mean that the people that like to watch Sci-fi films will know they are going
to enjoy the film. However on the other hand, I think that the older target
market of my film will be either popular or they wont go and watch it at all,
this is because word of mouth from older market will have a very big impact
on the amount of them coming to watch my film.
