2. Building Environmental Assessment
Tools (BEATs)
• Objectives are evaluation of resource use,
ecological loadings, and indoor environmental
quality.
• Some of the most recognized ones are BEATs
include BEES 4.0, BREEAM, CASBEE, Code for
Sustainable Homes, Green Star, LEED, SBTool,
and Minergie.
3. Aim
• To produce tools that predict, calculate,
estimate, and measure the impact of buildings
on natural systems and communicate it to
different stakeholders in a standardized way.
4. • LEED®-NC v3, Leadership in Energy and
Environmental Design for New Construction.
• LEED-NC is market driven, Code for
Sustainable Homes has recently become a
building code.
• LEED was developed by the US Green Building
Council committees (USGBC) to promote,
define and measure “green buildings” and
influence the building industry
5. • “The intent is to promote healthful, durable,
affordable, and environmentally sound
practices in building design and construction.”
8. several tool
set of categories has been chosen:
• Energy & Pollution;
• Material & Waste;
• Indoor Environment/Health and Wellbeing;
• Domestic Water;
• Site & Ecology;
• Management/Procedures;
• Else.
9. • LEED uses 4 labels: certified, silver, gold and
platinum, whereas CSH and EcoEffect use 1–6
stars, where six stars is the best.
10. Expectations of USGBC through LEED
• Reverse Contribution to Global Climate change.
• Enhance individual human health and well being.
• Protect and Restore water resources.
• Protect, enhance and restore biodiversity and
ecosystem services.
• Promote sustainable and regenerative material
resources cycles.
• Build a greener Economy.
• Enhance social equity, environmental justice, and
community quality of life.
11. LEED certification Process
• Begins with rating system selection and project
registration.
• Project team should prepare documentation for
all prerequisites.
• Then the team will be chosen for credits.
• When submitted for certification, project goes
through preliminary and final reviews.
• Preliminary review provides technical advise on
requirement for additional work for achievement.
• Final review contains final score and certification.
• If not satisfied appeal can be made for latter one.
