Agar stab
1. Agar stab
Stab culture a culture into which the organisms are introduced by thrusting a needle deep
into the medium.
Stab cultures are similar to agar plates, but are formed by solid agar in a test tube.
Bacteria are introduced via an inoculation needle or a pipette tip being stabbed into the
center of the agar.
Bacteria grow in the punctured area.
It is using for the analysis of motility or oxygen usage, or when inoculating certain types
of solid medium.
This particular method of inoculation allows one to culture a microorganism under
limited oxygen exposure.
Stab cultures are most commonly used for short-term storage or shipment of cultures.
