Mikasa Alternate Ending
It starts at the South Pole, with Mikasa and I rowing a small fishing boat in the ocean. So there I
was, rowing a boat just big enough for two children. Mikasa was practicing her waterbending. I
aimed my spear just when she lost control of her bubble of water; Mikasa's bubble burst, soaking
me, and the fish Mikasa had caught flopped back into the ocean. "Armin..." Her voice held a
warning note. There it comes. She's going to narrow her eyes and glare at me for the rest of the day,
even though I was the one who got soaked, and – "I had that fish! And you lost it!" I turned around.
"Mikasa, I'm the one who's soaked here. Which stopped me from getting my fish, if you can recall."
My voice was even, but her words surprised me. Mikasa never ... Show more content on

"Now that we all know each other, why don't you come back to the village with us?" It didn't seem
like he had another place to stay, and I was curious. He didn't look like a monk, but he'd said that he
was from the Southern Air Temple. Which meant that he was the same Avatar who'd disappeared a
hundred years ago. Or, that four Avatars were born in the last century and died without anyone
noticing. Yeah, the first option was more likely. Maybe Avatars had unknown powers. It didn't seem
that far–fetched. Stories twist around and change over time. Maybe being the Avatar was more than
elemental bending. Eren nodded at me. "Sure, wait a moment." He crawled back into the iceberg. I
followed, looking around as if I expected something other than ice on the inside. It turned out to be
just an icy cave. There was a mound of fur inside with a saddle on it, and horns, and it was moving –
breathing. A giant bison – now that's something I haven't heard of before. I walked towards the
sleeping bison, examining it from all sides. Now that I think about it, I remember hearing about
airbenders and flying animals. It sounded like a child's story. But then again, finding the Avatar
sitting in the middle of the ocean was pretty unlikely as well. "So. How are we going to get back to
the village?" I said, more to myself than anyone. Mikasa continued to stand outside the ice cave,
while I paced around and Eren hopped

The Hero's Journey: Avatar the Last Airbender
Francheska Angeles Professor Peter Bolland World Mythology 6 December 2011 The Last
Airbender and The Hero's Journey When the average person thinks of mythology, they are most
likely to think about archaic stories about gods and heroes with fantastic powers and histories.
While living in our technologically advanced time period, these myths that we learn about were
once common teachings in ancient lands used to explain natural phenomenon and teach moral
standards to people. As fantastic as the stories of myth sound like, many people dismiss them and
assume these stories of fantasy no longer play a role in out modern–day lives. What most people do
not realize, however, is that many aspects of myth are still involved with the ... Show more content

The female character in Aang's posse named Katara often reflects what Kal Bishop states on his
online article on "The Temptress", "the entity that causes the Hero to not think of himself; the entity
for which the Hero is prepared to sacrifice himself; the entity that triggers the Hero's change of
attitude; (and) the reward at the end of the journey" (Bishop, Hero's Journey: Woman as Temptress).
Interestingly enough while Katara is portrayed as an ally, she is the cause for many of the stumbling
Aang has on his journey. While this could also feed into the obligatory relationship television shows
have to offer in modern–day entertainment, Aang is halted many times during his journey because
Katara is put into danger. Next, Aang's "Atonement with the Father" comes in the form of The Fire
Lord Aang has to defeat. He becomes a father–like figure when the Fire Lord's son Zuko joins the
Avatar in order to stop him. Recognizing that the Avatar finds peaceful ways to end injustice, Zuko
questions Aang on how he will defeat his evil father without killing him, and so Aang must devise a
way to overpower him whilst respecting the Fire Lord and Zuko's wishes. Aang's "Apotheosis",
which is our hero's temporary death or rest before his goal is reached, happens during his battle with
the Fire Lord. In the heated match

"I will answer your questions under one condition."
Aang whooped and flew 2 feet in the air with his fists raised high above his head. Zuko rolled his
eyes at Aang's antics.
"Just answer some of my questions first," Zuko said. "Where are we and how did I get here?"
"I . . . um . . . I'm not sure where we are actually," Aang said sheepishly. "But I do know that we are
not that far from Crescent Island."
"Right, so we are lost." Zuko grumbled under his breath.
"I wouldn't exactly say that we are lost–"

at Zuko, who stared in wonder at the beautiful view of the ocean and the island as they grew further
away from both. "The view is amazing from up here, don't you think?"
A small smile tugged at the corner of Zuko's lips. "Yeah I guess it is."
Sensing that it was the end of the conversation, Aang left him alone to indulge himself on the view.
One thing he learned during their lunch break is that Zuko was not much of a conversationalist so
Aang decided to keep quiet . . . for now. After about half an hour, Aang could not keep it in any
longer so he asked the one burning question that has haunted his mind. "Why are you taking that
rock wherever you go?" Aang blurted out.
Zuko gave an exasperated sighed, amazed at how long the silence lasted and upset that it couldn't
last any longer. "It's not a rock, it's a dragon egg."
"Really? I've never seen a dragon and I don't think anyone's seen one for a hundred years."

A Departure From Gender And Race
Eron Huynh Engl 313 Professor Wexler 29 Oct 2015 Korra: A Departure from Gender and Race The
Legend of Korra, an animated television show by creators Bryan Konietzko and Michael Dante
DiMartino, is widely acclaimed as Nickelodeon's most progressive and, at times even described as
subversive and socially disruptive, series. It follows the journey of Korra, a young heroine and most
current incarnate of the Avatar line, through her trials, tribulations and growing pains. Her story is
one fraught with physical danger and obstacles, but the series also highlights the emotional turmoil
experienced by the main character, as well as the relationships she has with her environments. There
are many factors which contribute to Korra's progressive undertones. One of the biggest reasons this
series has been viewed as a progressive text is the way the creators have continued to create a more
realistic environment for its characters to inhabit. There is fair representation of a diverse cast within
the borders of this fantasy world. The fact that the main character, Korra, is not the stereotypical
hero is one of the top reasons this series is revolutionary. Korra is a young woman with a dark
complexion, a difficult attitude and even stronger physical abilities. She's a match for even the
strongest adversary, male or female. Throughout the series, there are a variety of different races and
cultures depicted, far more than any other mainstream animated series in syndication today. The

Similarities Between Aevar And Avatar
The course of literature, though it continues to modernize and move forward as us, it is still a
reflection and culmination of history. Relics of the past still linger and in one way or another in
literature. Literary works that go as far as more than centuries ago can still be integrated with our
era today, by having trans mutate into our modern literature. Works of old legends such as John
Milton share the same themes and archetypes with newer works such as the Avatar: the Last
Airbender. This will be the discourse of this paper, the contrast and comparison of these two literary
works, Paradise Lost, and Avatar: The Last Airbender, specifically the characters of Lucifer and
Prince Zuko respectively.
First , a brief background of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Zuko was a bitter, impatient, and complex young man, akin to a tragic villain. More than anything,
he wanted his place as heir to the Fire Nation throne and his father's love. Zuko believed, or forced
himself to believe, that capturing the Avatar would make these wishes come true, making him one of
Aang's most determined enemies. His motivation was focused on him redeeming himself.
Comparison
Both Satan and Zuko play ed the role of the tragic villain, A character who, although acting for
primarily evil or selfish goals, is not in full control of their actions and emotions and hence the
reader can sympathize with them due to them not being evil by choice, but rather by them being (for
the most part) a victim of circumstance. In Satan's case, it was merely his pride that led to his
downfall, it was not the creation of human that he became corrupt, but it was the idea of answering
to someone superior that angered his pride. Similarly, Zuko himself was a victim of circumstances
beyond his control, prior to his banishment, he himself had no intentions of ever being the Avatar's
nemesis. It was only culmination of his circumstances that push him in being

My Favorite Character
"I've always had to struggle and fight and that's made me strong. It's made me who I am"
Over the summer I re–watched my favorite childhood cartoon: Avatar the Last Airbender. After
completing an AP English class, I couldn't help but notice the overwhelming amount of parallelism
between my own life and character. If you've never seen the animated masterpiece, please bare with
me as I describe the very critical realization I was lead to (and consider investing in the dvd boxset).
As a child, my favorite character was Katara, a powerful waterbender who, upon losing her mother,
has to take care of her older brother as they travel around the world in hopes of defeating the evil
fire nation. I was envious of her freedom, and the fact that she can go wherever she wants whenever
she wants– a freedom that I never felt I had. I didn't realize, however, that her adventures may be a
little more like hardships in my reality.
If you'd told eight year old me that my wish would be granted, I would have been more than thrilled.
But I never realised just how hard it is to end wars, until I was fighting one.
Just like Katara, I lost my mother when I was four. She didn't die, but she was so consumed by grief
after the death of her sister that I lost the happy mother I knew to depression and anxiety. My
mother took in two of my aunt's children, granting me a sister and a twin brother. Over night, my
single mother went from having one child to having three young children. Our house soon

Katniss Research Paper
I went through different phases of entrainment growing up. First it was whatever cartoon that was
available on TV, but after my family got internet, I had more freedom to choose or select what I
wanted to watch or read. I got into Japanese anime since some of them were shown on TV along
with other cartoons, it's just on the internet there was more of a variety. Then I transitioned to
reading Japanese manga, after that I got into Korean dramas, and then fanfiction. In between all of
this, I still watched American shows here and there like Buffy the Vampire Slayer or Avatar the Last
Airbender. Tumblr got me into Doctor who, which was a twist from my Asian or American
entertainment, since this was British. Regardless of language and culture, reading or watching, there
was one thing I loved and I looked for, it was badass female characters. ... Show more content on

I was thinking of using Katniss and The Hunger Games to examine, but with this topic I can use
almost any female main character in the text we read. When I search fro new mangas to read, I look
for this word called "gender blender" in the category section. As can tell by the term, it means that
there are characters who genders seem mixed in the manga. That's how I find the more "masculine,"
"strong," and actually logical female characters. These characters just get mistaken as guys a lot or
even pretending to be a guy. Then on the other end of the spectrum, there's the over sexualization of
strong female characters. Like how Katniss in the movie is pretty hot to how Granny suddenly being
attractive. There seem to be a correlation of acknowledgment of badassness to how attractive a
women is. Even though she's smart and strong and whatever, there has to be a plus of hotness. The
characters are usually really hot or mistaken as a

Avatar: The Last Airbender: Fire National Symbol
Mandala Explanation Essay Choosing fire, which is represented by the fire nation symbol from
Avatar: The Last Airbender on the first page of the mandala, as the natural element that describes
the way I am around others was quite difficult to do; I felt as if none of the elements described the
way I feel I am. Symbolically, fire represents energy, power, and passion. When I actually put
thought into it, I realized that this is how I try to act. This is what I almost pretend to be like when I
am not being myself. I present myself as someone who has the energy and passion to do what they
like. It is just an attempt to look like the person I want to be when I know don't. Truthfully, I am an
idle person from my perspective. Although, I have convinced people, and in result, I am called a
"kiss–up" sometimes and have been told numerous times that I try too hard for my classes–though, I
don't really agree with that. In fact, I think I need to put more genuine effort. Fire seems to be a

Analysis Of Avatar : The Last Airbender
Cartoons nowadays mostly serve the purpose of light entertainment, but some cartoons possess
profound knowledge used to educate the new generation through the use of speeches or morals. One
of such cartoons is Avatar: The Last Airbender, a show on Nickelodeon that aired during the years
2005 to 2008. While the show itself is centered on the character of Aang, the avatar and the last of
the airbender race, the character known as Uncle Iroh serves as the mentor and teacher figure
throughout the series. Iroh's speech during episode 9 of season 2 of Avatar: The Last Airbender is
indirectly used to persuade children to look at the cultures of others in order to better understand
themselves. This is done through the use of symbolism, ethos and some logos. Iroh's speech to Zuko
during episode 9 of season 2 is directed to persuade children, as the primary demographic of the
show is children 7 years old or above. The TV rating for the show is TV–Y7. TV–Y7 means that the
cartoon is designed for children age 7 and above, and may include mild fantasy violence or may
frighten children under that age (TV Guidelines, 2017).
In order to understand the meaning behind the speech, one must first look at the context of the show.
Avatar: The Last Airbender takes place in world run by four separate entities: The Fire Nation, the
Earth Kingdom, the Water Tribe, and the Air Nomads. Each entity is represented by the element of
nature that its people control. Such people who can harness the

Movie Analysis : The Last Airbender
The main thing I can truly say regarding The Last Airbender is that it was horrible. Fundamental
Pictures gave M. Night Shyamalan $150 million dollars to adjust the well–known Nickelodeon
cartoon to turn it into what would've been the best movie of the year. What they got is an outright
chaos of a motion picture, finished with poor acting, the most worn out content ever, and a very late
change to 3–D that serves to crush what was conceivably some rich cinematography. Airbender
endeavors to be a decent film. It is near difficult to discover anything appropriate with Airbender.
The story is strangely unpredictable. In this made–up reality where individuals can control the four
components: air, earth, fire and water, contingent upon their tribal association, there exists a being
(the Avatar) who can control every one of the four. This individual is the sole being fit to
communicate with the "soul world" which serves to keep things in order. The Avatar disappeared
100 years prior, just to be found in a mammoth ice circle by two children of the Southern water
tribe. In the 100 years the Avatar had been gone, the Fire tribe started vanquishing the others,
however we're never informed as to why. The young Prince Zuko (Dev Patel) of the Fire tribe needs
to the Avatar so he can come back to his family after he was embarrassed and disgraced by his
father. The two Water tribe children need to spare the Avatar to guarantee the Fire individuals don't
win. From here on it turns out to be

Avatar The Last Airbender Analysis
Avatar the Last Airbender is a show about a boy named Aang who is the avatar which means he can
bend all four elements water, fire, earth, and air. There is only one avatar, but there are other
benders, who bend specific elements like water solely. Katara is one of these benders who benders
water, she is Aangs best friend and crush by the end of the series. There is also Sokka who is
Katara's brother, he does not bend but is a warrior. Last but not least there is Toph, she bends earth.
With all three of his friends, Aang travels the world learning how to master each element so he can
be prepared to defeat the fire lord who has invaded many other nations. While on this journey he
will have to defeat foes like Zuko and Azula the fire lords' children and face many other obstacles.
Throughout the show, Aang grows and matures into an amazing friend and an even better avatar
bringing peace to the four kingdoms. I used to watch Avatar the Last Airbender a lot as a kid, it was

How Has Othello Changed
The play Othello written by William Shakespeare has been changed and altered to suit the vision of
each director that dare to reenact the piece. Othello is a tragedy that follows the moor of Venice,
Othello, and Desdemona's downfall; this all due to a simple lie and lack of communication between
the two. When the play is reenacted the set, character costumes, setting and sometimes even
timezone is changed to suit the vision of the director. In our version of Othello, we thought that the
hit Nickelodeon show Avatar the Last Airbender written by Bryan Konietzko and Michael Dante

Each person in the four nations can either control fire, water, earth (rock), and or air. The Avatar
named Aang discovers that he has the power to control all four elements, something that no one else

the tv show, there's an abundance of drama that makes it interesting and unexpected. To portray our
vision effectively we set the background as King Bumi's kingdom, this is an important setting in the
story being this is where a lot of the actions happens. We incorporated a detailed background as well
as numerous props to make sure the set looks more 3 dimensional instead of 1 dimensional which
can, unfortunately, ruin a play. One of the larger props is a bridge, this will be good for the character
to walk on adding a next level effect to the play. In Act 4; Scene 2 our group understood that a

screen. What they got is an absolute mess of a movie, complete with poor acting, the most
hackneyed script ever, and a last–minute conversion to 3–D that only serves to destroys what was
possibly some lush cinematography. Airbender makes a determined effort. It is nigh impossible to
find anything right with Airbender. The story is ridiculously complex. In a world where people can
manipulate (bend) the four elements of air, earth, fire and water, depending on their tribal affiliation,
there exists a being (the Avatar) who can manipulate all four. This person is also the sole being
capable of communing the the "spirit world" which serves to keep things in balance. This being
went missing 100 years ago, only to be found in a giant ice sphere by two children of the water
tribe. In the 100 years the Avatar has been gone, the Fire tribe has begun conquering the others,
though we're never really told why. The disgraced Prince Zuko (Dev Patel) of the Fire tribe wants to
the Avatar so he can return to his family. The Water children need to save the Avatar to ensure the
Fire people don't win. For this point on it becomes to silly to try and summarize. Shyamalan
succumbs to his own hubris, loading the film with long, boring exposition communicated through
long, boring speeches that I'm sure were

The Four Elements Of Aang's Avatar
Maybe I don't meet all the criteria – having been frozen in an iceberg for a hundred years, being a
master of all four elements, or having a flying sky bison as a companion – but I've always felt a
connection to Aang from the Nickelodeon series Avatar the Last Airbender, especially now. Aang is
the main character with powers that set him apart from the others in his world who can control the
elements: he is the Avatar, the sole person who can gain control over all four elements. As a teenager
who's looking at the next stage of my life, I find that there is not too much different between my
current situation and Aang's experiences. In his story, Aang first discovers he's in charge of the fate
of the world when he is twelve. He eventually runs away because of the inner conflict created by his
desires and duties and is frozen in an iceberg for a hundred years. Once he is broken out, he is
discovered as the Avatar and is forced on a journey – which he intends at first to be a trip to have
fun and teach his friend how to waterbend. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Aang has to master all four elements – earth, water, fire, and air – to be able to defeat the Fire Lord.
In learning the other three, he also has to struggle between his airbender personality – a pacifistic

tasks. His biggest struggle is finding a way to defeat the Fire Lord while still aligning to his beliefs,
which he accomplishes through taking away the Fire Lord's bending instead of killing the

Alchemy had always seemed interesting from the very start of my Hogwarts schooling career, and it
all started with a simple show: Avatar: The Last Airbender. In this show, made for Muggles, by
Muggles, the main character travels around the world to stop a rouge nation from conquering the
world; how, however, does this show relate to the study of Alchemy? Many of the characters from
the show could bend one of the four basic aspects, which are Water, Earth, Fire, and Air. Despite the
fact that I was completely obsessed with this show, I decided that I would research the different
origins and inspirations the show's creators drew upon. Somehow, I stumbled upon the study of
Alchemy, and I knew that I wanted to study further into this topic. I

Hot Blooded: A Short Story
Hot Blooded Lucas woke up today like everyday, struggling to get out of bed thinking what's the
point but today was especially difficult for reasons he couldn't exactly figure out. He felt hot,
extremely hot which was strange seeing as it was the middle of a very cold winter. He concluded
that he must have a fever and so Lucas went to the bathroom to take his temperature. After only a
couple seconds the thermometer beeped and Lucas looked at it to reveal an alarming 203°F. He
rushed to his mother who reacted like any caring mother would, she freaked out and immediately
called for an ambulance. Lucas, though he had a fever as though he had set fire to his skin, was not
concerned at all. If anything he was annoyed at the situation and obviously uncomfortable with how
much he was sweating. The ambulance came to pick him up though he was perfectly capable of
walking, and so that's what he did. He walked into the back of the ambulance and he must have been
a little delirious from the fever because he swore he saw some snow ... Show more content on

Francheska Angeles Professor Peter Bolland World Mythology 6 December 2011 The Last

likely to think about archaic stories about gods and heroes with fantastic powers and histories.

Although Nickelodeon is mostly regarded as a sad, shambling mess nowadays, the network has
really had some amazing shows over its 36–year history. Many of its original cartoons were so
creative and out there, that they themselves were founding new cartoon stars, and had
groundbreaking effects on western animation. For the longest time, Nickelodeon was the ruling king
of animated entertainment, and it was no wonder. So in honor of this network's golden age, I've
taken the time to list my 3 favorite Nickelodeon shows of all time. To make this list, these shows
still have to be enjoyable as an adult, and not just stand as a childhood favorite.
My third favorite show is Drake and Josh, which is not only one of Nickelodeon's miracle sitcoms,
but also one of my favorite shows of all time, and for very good reason. This series follows the life
of 2 stepbrothers just trying to adapt and live together with their family, resulting in believable
scenarios and some very well–thought out jokes. Even if a joke didn't always hit, the characters
were still appreciated for who they were because they were relatable, and went through very
believable situations that a lot of people could look back on. And I'm happy to say that all the actors
went on to do better things because of this sitcom, so it clearly didn't go to waste. I ... Show more

so creative and thought–provoking that you'll actually show some sympathy for one of the main

Character Analysis Of Nickelodeon's The Legend Of Koda
Nickelodeon's The Legend of Korra is an innovative television series that was created by Michael
Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko. It was created as a continuation of the show Avatar: The
Last Airbender. The show is set in a fictional world in which characters are able to manipulate the
elements: Earth, Water, Fire, and Air. This is known as bending. In this world, each person is either a
non–bender, someone who is unable to manipulate the elements, a bender, someone who has control
of one element. The Avatar is the one person who is able to bend all four elements and is the bridge
between the physical and spirit realms, thus playing a pivotal role in the shaping the morality of an
ever changing world. In The Legend of Korra, Korra is the Avatar and the series revolves around her
trials and tribulations trying to fulfill her duty to a world which is recovering from a 100–year war
and genocide. The series opens with a 17–year old Avatar Korra eager to make her presence known
on the world stage, and ends with a 21–year old fully realized Avatar. While there are many complex
personalities, none are more complex than the main character Korra. Analyzing her personality
using the trait approach, specifically the Five Factor Model of Personality, and the psychoanalytic
approach, specifically Freud's model of the psyche, one can have a full understanding of Korra's
motivations and reactions to a changing world in which she plays a key role. In the first scenes of

The Influence Of Japanese Animation In Avatar : The Last...
The Peabody Awards have a long history of finding and rewarding shows that exhibit excellence in
television programming, and Avatar: The Last Airbender is no exception. The show was incredibly
successful during its run and even though it ended almost a decade ago, still has a large fan base of
all different ages and genders. The show has also inspired several graphic novels and print books as
well as a spinoff series, Avatar: The Legend of Korra. Avatar is an excellent example of how mixing
styles and genres can enhance a show's potential.
Running for 61 episodes over three seasons, Avatar features an unusually deep plot for a children's
cartoon. In her article "The Influence of Japanese Animation on Avatar: The Last Airbender",
Katalin Bakonyi mentions that this is significant because, "American TV animation tends to be
constructed in an episodic way, where at the end of every episode characters are "reset" to their
default status." (Bakonyi 30) This is not the case in Avatar, however, where the overarching plot is
stated within the first couple episodes – Aang must master the four elements and defeat the Firelord
before the end of summer – and stays true to this mission all the way to the end. Although the group
occasionally gets off track, each episode propels them towards that final goal in one way or another.
Few, if any, children's cartoons have such a clearly stated, overarching plot that it remains true to
over the course of multiple seasons. More often cartoons are

Avatar The Last Airbender And Gender
Created by Bryan Konietzko and Michael Dante DiMartino, Avatar: The Last Airbender is an
American television series that aired for three seasons on Nickelodeon from 2005 to 2008. Set in an
Asiatic–world, ATLA is an interesting combination of anime and American cartoons. As Aang,
Katara, Sokka, and later on Toph, travel the world teaching Aang how to master the four elements,
the odd little group meets people of various cultures and ethnicities, including East Asian, Inuit,
Southeast Asian, South Asian, and New World societies. As they continue their journey, they also
meet a variety of female characters, all of which are different in character but also maintain a certain
strength in their character. This demonstration of different cultures, ethnicities, and powerful women
is a great education for young children who have not yet been introduced to sexism or racism. The
equality in the show, as it always maintains an equal blend of genders, is a great model for children

drawn from China, Japan, India, the Inuit, and many other cultures. Religious influences also stem

The three–season–long story takes place in an ancient world where types of people known as
"benders" live. Benders have the ability to control and manipulate certain elements (water, fire,
earth, or air) depending on which nationality they are a part of – The Water Tribes, the Fire Nation,
the Earth Kingdom, or the Air Nomads. There is only one person, known as the Avatar, who has
control over all four elements. This person is the bridge between the human world and the spirit
world and is the force for the all–encompassing balance and peace in the universe. When one Avatar
spirit is born, they exist as normal as any other bender – restricted to one element. When that Avatar
eventually passes, he/she is reincarnated into the next element of the cycle. For instance, in The Last
Airbender, the Avatar, Aang, is born into the Air Nomads with his organic knowledge and power to
manipulate the air element. Eventually when Aang passes away, the Avatar will be reincarnated into
the Water Tribes (which actually leads into a spin–off series: The Legend of Korra). Although, at

of bending one element, with the exception of the Avatar. The Avatar is able to bend all four

in charge of keeping all four nations in harmony. The character I will be talking about is Katara, an

The world of the Witcher is dominated by dark themes and surreal monsters. Geralt of Rivia is the
main character and is a Witcher, a human manufactured through mutation and trained heavily in
order to fight monsters for coin. The world of the Witcher is also populated by small groups of
witches, sorcerers, sorceress (who I will refer to as mages) and usually held in high regard. One of
these mages came across ancient writing on tombstones and used his gained knowledge and called
them prophecies. One of the prophecies was the curse of the black sun, which was said to be placed
upon girls who were born during or shortly after an eclipse on a certain date. The prophecy entailed
that 60 girls born during this date would bring the fall of man, spread corruption, and fill the world
with demons. When the eclipse happened many mages hunted down the young girls (sometimes still
infants) and in most cases killed them and studied their cadavers. If they children were of high birth
the mages would either try to convince the family to simply let the children go. If the family denied
them they would explain that the children would be evil hell children born with demons inside them.
The children would then live out their life and at the slightest mistake would be reprimanded
harshly, abused, cast out of the home and family, and even euthanized. This was the life of Renfri,
whom I will be discussing specifically. Renfri was born into a royal family (not much is said about
her early life) and after her mother passed away her father remarried. The step mother was cautious

Analysis Of Avatar : The Last Airbender
Cartoons are known for being made specifically for children, but cartoons have slowly evolved to
appeal to adults, too. Cartoons have become less childish; they created themes and stories that may
pass over children's heads, but hit home to adults. One particular example of a children's cartoon for
adults is Avatar: The Last Airbender. Season two episode fourteen ('City of Walls and Secrets') has a
very prominent theme of political corruption. It starts with the gang trying to find their flying bison,
Appa, and having just found out information that could turn the war against the Fire Nation. They
travel to the city of Ba Sing Se to speak to the Earth King and find Appa. The side plot has Zuko
and his Uncle Iroh starting over their lives in Ba Sing Se whilst avoiding detection from anti–fire
nation people. Through that prejudice and the adventures of the main gang, the theme of political
corruption unfolds itself more and more. The first thing to notice about the city of Ba Sing Se is its
walls. There is a giant wall circling the whole city and many smaller walls throughout. These walls
were built specifically to separate the classes of society. Zuko and Uncle Iroh make home in one of
the lower sections and are faced with one main problem. A war orphan named Jett witnesses Uncle
Iroh performing a bit of firebending and sets out to prove his guilt for being a firebender. Being a
firebender isn't a crime in itself; but for many people, Jett included, being a firebender is equivalent
to being the Fire Nation and doing the same things it has done. When Jett confront Uncle Iroh and
Zuko in front of everyone, no one believes him. He is arrested and taken into a room, people there
start repeating to him, "There is no war in Ba Sing Se," while a light circles around them. In a very
literal sense, this is straight up brainwashing. In a metaphorical sense, this can represent multiple
different methods of political propaganda– speeches, rallies, flyers, etc. Every political platform
uses 'brainwashing' propaganda of some sort; Ba Sing Se being an extreme example of political
propaganda gone wrong. When the main gang first arrives in Ba Sing Se, they are greeted with a
servant of the Earth King, Joo Dee. Her appearance

Examples Of Whitewashing In Movies
No colours on coloured screens
We all have visited the cinema once or twice in our lives to see just released movies with family or
friends. Some rather watch romantic movies, others action or horror. There are so many different
movies out there, each appealing to different people, but there's one thing most movies seem to have
in common: the main cast consists mainly out of white actors. There are barely any movies with a
diverse main cast. Even when the character in the movie is a non–white person, there is a white
person playing that role.
In many Hollywood movies characters are being whitewashed. Whitewashing is when in movies,
white actors are cast for characters of colour, such as Black, Asian, Latino, etc. This can also happen
in other forms of media such as books, fan art or games.
Some examples of movies in which whitewashing happens are:

direct fatalities. She rather disable and disarm opponents. Unlike most villains, Mai's does what she
does simply doesn't have anything better to do. Even while working for the villain, Mai had her
limits where she put her foot down because it was a conflict of personal interest. This ranged from

forfeits it to Team Avatar without a fight. Perhaps the biggest piece of evidence for her status as The

comedy thrown in for the finishing touch. This series has four different seasons, each with a
different plot. The first seasons deals with equality and fighting for freedom. The second season
deals with a mad uncle and spirit portals. In this Korra (the main character) sees a vision of the first

causes a criminal to gain air bending. He uses this to try and reshape the world. The fourth season
takes place three years later. Korra must overcome her inner monsters and memories from her past.

impossible for one to contend that the film was not a disaster. From ongoing inconsistencies to poor

Stories of Trank's emotionally and physically destructive behavior emerged quite early on. One
testimony from a crewmember described that Trank "showed up to set late or so high he couldn't
speak almost everyday", if he even "show[ed] up at all" (Shaw–Williams). "He treated crew
terribly," he continues, "trashed the house the production company rented for him, ... [and] did a
couple hundred grand worth of damage. ... [S]o much damage ... that [Fox CEO] Jim Gianopulos
came to Baton Rouge and personally apologized to the owners." Trank's erratic, aggressive behavior
off–set translated into hostility and lividity towards the actors on set (Shaw–Williams). In fact, the
August issue of Entertainment Weekly (via ComicBook.com) claims that despite the fact that Trank
fought for having Miles Teller in the film, Trank "ended up almost fighting Teller," who is known to
have "a reputation for sarcasm and recalcitrance while working." Trank and Teller "[dared] each
other to throw the first punch" in their physical conflict, but neither did (Jayson). To top things off,
Trank responded to early critics of the film through a meltdown on Twitter, expressing his
frustration at the studio for the film's faults (O'Kane). On August 6th, 2015, he tweeted: "A year ago
I had a fantastic version of this. And it would've received great reviews. You'll probably never see it.

Embracing The Dumb Blonde Analysis
In its largest sense, Session on Gender demonstrated opinions on gender, sexuality, and women's
issues. It also showed the intercultural relations that cross–national boundaries, cultural relations
within a particular society, and the interactions between female activities such as art and literature.
The first speaker, Krista Aldritch presented the topic "Embracing the 'Dumb Blonde': Navigating
Identity in Anita Loos' Gentlemen Prefer Blondes." She argued that "dumb blonde" can actually be
very intellectual and use her look to get what she wants. Krista supported her argument by using
Lorelei Lee, the main character of Anita Loos' "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes." Lorelei Lee's character
reveals what it means to be a woman in 1920s. Krista explained that Loralei Lee uses her "dumb
blond" persona to succeed and to secure her future by being that "desirable image" for men.
The second speaker, Jacky Bui, confer on topic "The Anomaly of an Asian–American Woman in
The 21st Century: Analyzing Intersectionality and Challenging Societal Norms in Mainstream
Media." She reasoned that Asian–American women are in minority group because they aren't white
and invisible for movie makers. They constantly struggle with self–identity. Jacky provided some
movie examples such as "Mockingjay," "Ghost in the Shell," ... Show more content on

Growing Up Without Parents: An Analysis of "Hailey"The poem "Hailey" tells the story of a young girl who is separated from her parents and little siblings. Several elements contribute to the melancholy tone:- Hailey comforts her crying sister and brother by giving them her stuffed animal, foreshadowing the loss she feels from being taken away. - Her goodbye to her parents is simple but heartbreaking - "bye mommy, bye daddy I'll miss you

  • 1. Mikasa Alternate Ending It starts at the South Pole, with Mikasa and I rowing a small fishing boat in the ocean. So there I was, rowing a boat just big enough for two children. Mikasa was practicing her waterbending. I aimed my spear just when she lost control of her bubble of water; Mikasa's bubble burst, soaking me, and the fish Mikasa had caught flopped back into the ocean. "Armin..." Her voice held a warning note. There it comes. She's going to narrow her eyes and glare at me for the rest of the day, even though I was the one who got soaked, and – "I had that fish! And you lost it!" I turned around. "Mikasa, I'm the one who's soaked here. Which stopped me from getting my fish, if you can recall." My voice was even, but her words surprised me. Mikasa never ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... "Now that we all know each other, why don't you come back to the village with us?" It didn't seem like he had another place to stay, and I was curious. He didn't look like a monk, but he'd said that he was from the Southern Air Temple. Which meant that he was the same Avatar who'd disappeared a hundred years ago. Or, that four Avatars were born in the last century and died without anyone noticing. Yeah, the first option was more likely. Maybe Avatars had unknown powers. It didn't seem that far–fetched. Stories twist around and change over time. Maybe being the Avatar was more than elemental bending. Eren nodded at me. "Sure, wait a moment." He crawled back into the iceberg. I followed, looking around as if I expected something other than ice on the inside. It turned out to be just an icy cave. There was a mound of fur inside with a saddle on it, and horns, and it was moving – breathing. A giant bison – now that's something I haven't heard of before. I walked towards the sleeping bison, examining it from all sides. Now that I think about it, I remember hearing about airbenders and flying animals. It sounded like a child's story. But then again, finding the Avatar sitting in the middle of the ocean was pretty unlikely as well. "So. How are we going to get back to the village?" I said, more to myself than anyone. Mikasa continued to stand outside the ice cave, while I paced around and Eren hopped ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. The Hero's Journey: Avatar the Last Airbender Francheska Angeles Professor Peter Bolland World Mythology 6 December 2011 The Last Airbender and The Hero's Journey When the average person thinks of mythology, they are most likely to think about archaic stories about gods and heroes with fantastic powers and histories. While living in our technologically advanced time period, these myths that we learn about were once common teachings in ancient lands used to explain natural phenomenon and teach moral standards to people. As fantastic as the stories of myth sound like, many people dismiss them and assume these stories of fantasy no longer play a role in out modern–day lives. What most people do not realize, however, is that many aspects of myth are still involved with the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The female character in Aang's posse named Katara often reflects what Kal Bishop states on his online article on "The Temptress", "the entity that causes the Hero to not think of himself; the entity for which the Hero is prepared to sacrifice himself; the entity that triggers the Hero's change of attitude; (and) the reward at the end of the journey" (Bishop, Hero's Journey: Woman as Temptress). Interestingly enough while Katara is portrayed as an ally, she is the cause for many of the stumbling Aang has on his journey. While this could also feed into the obligatory relationship television shows have to offer in modern–day entertainment, Aang is halted many times during his journey because Katara is put into danger. Next, Aang's "Atonement with the Father" comes in the form of The Fire Lord Aang has to defeat. He becomes a father–like figure when the Fire Lord's son Zuko joins the Avatar in order to stop him. Recognizing that the Avatar finds peaceful ways to end injustice, Zuko questions Aang on how he will defeat his evil father without killing him, and so Aang must devise a way to overpower him whilst respecting the Fire Lord and Zuko's wishes. A small smile tugged at the corner of Zuko's lips. "Yeah I guess it is." Sensing that it was the end of the conversation, Aang left him alone to indulge himself on the view. One thing he learned during their lunch break is that Zuko was not much of a conversationalist so Aang decided to keep quiet . . . for now. After about half an hour, Aang could not keep it in any longer so he asked the one burning question that has haunted his mind. "Why are you taking that rock wherever you go?" Aang blurted out. Zuko gave an exasperated sighed, amazed at how long the silence lasted and upset that it couldn't last any longer. "It's not a rock, it's a dragon egg."

  • 6. A Departure From Gender And Race Eron Huynh Engl 313 Professor Wexler 29 Oct 2015 Korra: A Departure from Gender and Race The Legend of Korra, an animated television show by creators Bryan Konietzko and Michael Dante DiMartino, is widely acclaimed as Nickelodeon's most progressive and, at times even described as subversive and socially disruptive, series. It follows the journey of Korra, a young heroine and most current incarnate of the Avatar line, through her trials, tribulations and growing pains. Her story is one fraught with physical danger and obstacles, but the series also highlights the emotional turmoil experienced by the main character, as well as the relationships she has with her environments. There are many factors which contribute to Korra's progressive undertones. One of the biggest reasons this series has been viewed as a progressive text is the way the creators have continued to create a more realistic environment for its characters to inhabit. There is fair representation of a diverse cast within the borders of this fantasy world. The fact that the main character, Korra, is not the stereotypical hero is one of the top reasons this series is revolutionary. Korra is a young woman with a dark complexion, a difficult attitude and even stronger physical abilities. She's a match for even the strongest adversary, male or female. Throughout the series, there are a variety of different races and cultures depicted, far more than any other mainstream animated series in syndication today. The show ... Relics of the past still linger and in one way or another in literature. Literary works that go as far as more than centuries ago can still be integrated with our era today, by having trans mutate into our modern literature. Works of old legends such as John Milton share the same themes and archetypes with newer works such as the Avatar: the Last Airbender. His motivation was focused on him redeeming himself. Comparison Both Satan and Zuko play ed the role of the tragic villain, A character who, although acting for primarily evil or selfish goals, is not in full control of their actions and emotions and hence the reader can sympathize with them due to them not being evil by choice, but rather by them being (for the most part) a victim of circumstance. In Satan's case, it was merely his pride that led to his downfall, it was not the creation of human that he became corrupt, but it was the idea of answering to someone superior that angered his pride. • 11. My Favorite Character "I've always had to struggle and fight and that's made me strong. It's made me who I am" Over the summer I re–watched my favorite childhood cartoon: Avatar the Last Airbender. After completing an AP English class, I couldn't help but notice the overwhelming amount of parallelism between my own life and character. If you've never seen the animated masterpiece, please bare with me as I describe the very critical realization I was lead to (and consider investing in the dvd boxset). As a child, my favorite character was Katara, a powerful waterbender who, upon losing her mother, has to take care of her older brother as they travel around the world in hopes of defeating the evil fire nation. I was envious of her freedom, and the fact that she can go wherever she wants whenever she wants– a freedom that I never felt I had. I didn't realize, however, that her adventures may be a little more like hardships in my reality. If you'd told eight year old me that my wish would be granted, I would have been more than thrilled. But I never realised just how hard it is to end wars, until I was fighting one. Just like Katara, I lost my mother when I was four. She didn't die, but she was so consumed by grief after the death of her sister that I lost the happy mother I knew to depression and anxiety. My mother took in two of my aunt's children, granting me a sister and a twin brother. Over night, my single mother went from having one child to having three young children. Our house soon ... I was thinking of using Katniss and The Hunger Games to examine, but with this topic I can use almost any female main character in the text we read. As can tell by the term, it means that there are characters who genders seem mixed in the manga. That's how I find the more "masculine," "strong," and actually logical female characters. These characters just get mistaken as guys a lot or even pretending to be a guy. Then on the other end of the spectrum, there's the over sexualization of strong female characters. Like how Katniss in the movie is pretty hot to how Granny suddenly being attractive. There seem to be a correlation of acknowledgment of badassness to how attractive a women is. Symbolically, fire represents energy, power, and passion. When I actually put thought into it, I realized that this is how I try to act. This is what I almost pretend to be like when I am not being myself. I present myself as someone who has the energy and passion to do what they like. • 16. Analysis Of Avatar : The Last Airbender Cartoons nowadays mostly serve the purpose of light entertainment, but some cartoons possess profound knowledge used to educate the new generation through the use of speeches or morals. One of such cartoons is Avatar: The Last Airbender, a show on Nickelodeon that aired during the years 2005 to 2008. While the show itself is centered on the character of Aang, the avatar and the last of the airbender race, the character known as Uncle Iroh serves as the mentor and teacher figure throughout the series. Iroh's speech during episode 9 of season 2 of Avatar: The Last Airbender is indirectly used to persuade children to look at the cultures of others in order to better understand themselves. This is done through the use of symbolism, ethos and some logos. Iroh's speech to Zuko during episode 9 of season 2 is directed to persuade children, as the primary demographic of the show is children 7 years old or above. The TV rating for the show is TV–Y7. TV–Y7 means that the cartoon is designed for children age 7 and above, and may include mild fantasy violence or may frighten children under that age (TV Guidelines, 2017). In order to understand the meaning behind the speech, one must first look at the context of the show. • 17. Movie Analysis : The Last Airbender The main thing I can truly say regarding The Last Airbender is that it was horrible. Fundamental Pictures gave M. Night Shyamalan $150 million dollars to adjust the well–known Nickelodeon cartoon to turn it into what would've been the best movie of the year. What they got is an outright chaos of a motion picture, finished with poor acting, the most worn out content ever, and a very late change to 3–D that serves to crush what was conceivably some rich cinematography. Airbender endeavors to be a decent film. It is near difficult to discover anything appropriate with Airbender. The story is strangely unpredictable. In this made–up reality where individuals can control the four components: air, earth, fire and water, contingent upon their tribal association, there exists a being (the Avatar) who can control every one of the four. This individual is the sole being fit to communicate with the "soul world" which serves to keep things in order. The Avatar disappeared 100 years prior, just to be found in a mammoth ice circle by two children of the Southern water tribe. In the 100 years the Avatar had been gone, the Fire tribe started vanquishing the others, however we're never informed as to why. The young Prince Zuko (Dev Patel) of the Fire tribe needs to the Avatar so he can come back to his family after he was embarrassed and disgraced by his father. • 23. Character Analysis Of The Last Airbender The only thing I can really say about The Last Airbender is this: Epic Fail. Paramount Pictures gave M. What they got is an absolute mess of a movie, complete with poor acting, the most hackneyed script ever, and a last–minute conversion to 3–D that only serves to destroys what was possibly some lush cinematography. Airbender makes a determined effort. It is nigh impossible to find anything right with Airbender. The story is ridiculously complex. In a world where people can manipulate (bend) the four elements of air, earth, fire and water, depending on their tribal affiliation, there exists a being (the Avatar) who can manipulate all four. It was created as a continuation of the show Avatar: The Last Airbender. The show is set in a fictional world in which characters are able to manipulate the elements: Earth, Water, Fire, and Air. This is known as bending. In this world, each person is either a non–bender, someone who is unable to manipulate the elements, a bender, someone who has control of one element. The Avatar is the one person who is able to bend all four elements and is the bridge between the physical and spirit realms, thus playing a pivotal role in the shaping the morality of an ever changing world. The Peabody Awards have a long history of finding and rewarding shows that exhibit excellence in television programming, and Avatar: The Last Airbender is no exception. The show was incredibly successful during its run and even though it ended almost a decade ago, still has a large fan base of all different ages and genders. The show has also inspired several graphic novels and print books as well as a spinoff series, Avatar: The Legend of Korra. Avatar is an excellent example of how mixing styles and genres can enhance a show's potential. Running for 61 episodes over three seasons, Avatar features an unusually deep plot for a children's cartoon. In her article "The Influence of Japanese Animation on Avatar: The Last Airbender", Katalin Bakonyi mentions that this is significant because, "American TV animation tends to be constructed in an episodic way, where at the end of every episode characters are "reset" to their default status." (Bakonyi 30) This is not the case in Avatar, however, where the overarching plot is stated within the first couple episodes – Aang must master the four elements and defeat the Firelord before the end of summer – and stays true to this mission all the way to the end. Although the group occasionally gets off track, each episode propels them towards that final goal in one way or another. This demonstration of different cultures, ethnicities, and powerful women is a great education for young children who have not yet been introduced to sexism or racism. The equality in the show, as it always maintains an equal blend of genders, is a great model for children in school who are just learning how to interact with one another. ... • 33. Avatar The Last Airbender Essay Avatar: The Last Airbender is an original, animated series that premiered on the Nickelodeon Network in 2005. The Last Airbender is a classic coming–of–age tale that beautifully portrays the dynamics of family, friendship, duty and love, while simultaneously capturing mature elements of race and gender. All in all, the story is mostly built upon Eastern influence with aesthetic inspiration drawn from China, Japan, India, the Inuit, and many other cultures. Religious influences also stem from Hindu and Buddhist beliefs which teach the theme of interconnectedness and simply, what it means to be a human. In Avatar: The Last Airbender, the central character, Aang, finds his true meaning and destiny through the help of not only his friends and loved ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The three–season–long story takes place in an ancient world where types of people known as "benders" live. Benders have the ability to control and manipulate certain elements (water, fire, earth, or air) depending on which nationality they are a part of – The Water Tribes, the Fire Nation, the Earth Kingdom, or the Air Nomads. There is only one person, known as the Avatar, who has control over all four elements. This person is the bridge between the human world and the spirit world and is the force for the all–encompassing balance and peace in the universe. When one Avatar spirit is born, they exist as normal as any other bender – restricted to one element. When that Avatar eventually passes, he/she is reincarnated into the next element of the cycle. For instance, in The Last Airbender, the Avatar, Aang, is born into the Air Nomads with his organic knowledge and power to manipulate the air element. Eventually when Aang passes away, the Avatar will be reincarnated into the Water Tribes (which actually leads into a spin–off series: The Legend of Korra). Although, at first, the Avatar's spirit is a single–element bender, it is their duty to relearn and master all four elements while still undergoing the daily challenges and experiences of human ... • 34. Avatar The Last Air Bender Analysis The first piece of media I am going to talk about is Avatar: The Last Air Bender cartoon series and its relationship with female empowerment. To start off I will give a short explanation about the show and the characters. In the universe of this cartoon many (but not all) people have the incredible ability to bend nature's elements to their will. The benders (as they are referred to) are only capable of bending one element, with the exception of the Avatar. The Avatar is able to bend all four elements (water, fire, earth, and air) and is considered to be very wise and powerful, as well as being in charge of keeping all four nations in harmony. The character I will be talking about is Katara, an intelligent water bender with a fiery determination. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The world of the Witcher is dominated by dark themes and surreal monsters. Geralt of Rivia is the main character and is a Witcher, a human manufactured through mutation and trained heavily in order to fight monsters for coin. The world of the Witcher is also populated by small groups of witches, sorcerers, sorceress (who I will refer to as mages) and usually held in high regard. One of these mages came across ancient writing on tombstones and used his gained knowledge and called them prophecies. One of the prophecies was the curse of the black sun, which was said to be placed upon girls who were born during or shortly after an eclipse on a certain date. The prophecy entailed that 60 girls born during this date would bring the fall of man, spread corruption, and fill the world with demons. When the eclipse happened many mages hunted down the young girls (sometimes still infants) and in most cases killed them and studied their cadavers. If they children were of high birth the mages would either try to convince the family to simply let the children go. If the family denied them they would explain that the children would be evil hell children born with demons inside them. The children would then live out their life and at the slightest mistake would be reprimanded harshly, abused, cast out of the home and family, and even euthanized. This was the life of Renfri, whom I will be discussing specifically. Renfri was born into a royal family (not much is said about her early life) and after her mother passed away her father remarried. The step mother was cautious about Renfri and discovered that she was born during the eclipse. The step mother began treating her much more harshly and contacted a mage council in order to confirm that Renfri was indeed cursed. The stepmother and a mage plotted and managed to ... Somehow, it felt familiar, as if I've been here before. I felt a little nagging in the back of my mind as if I was forgetting something. But what was it? Someone patted my shoulder. "Korra where are we? What happened? Asami asked. "I don't exactly know, but it's okay, we're not in danger." Suddenly a beautiful spirit appears in front of Asami. It adorned a flowing white dress that had opals embedded into it. She was shining so bright it was hard to look at her directly. • 37. Analysis Of Avatar : The Last Airbender Cartoons are known for being made specifically for children, but cartoons have slowly evolved to appeal to adults, too. Cartoons have become less childish; they created themes and stories that may pass over children's heads, but hit home to adults. One particular example of a children's cartoon for adults is Avatar: The Last Airbender. Season two episode fourteen ('City of Walls and Secrets') has a very prominent theme of political corruption. It starts with the gang trying to find their flying bison, Appa, and having just found out information that could turn the war against the Fire Nation. They travel to the city of Ba Sing Se to speak to the Earth King and find Appa. The side plot has Zuko and his Uncle Iroh starting over their lives in Ba Sing Se whilst avoiding detection from anti–fire nation people. Through that prejudice and the adventures of the main gang, the theme of political corruption unfolds itself more and more. The first thing to notice about the city of Ba Sing Se is its walls. There is a giant wall circling the whole city and many smaller walls throughout. These walls were built specifically to separate the classes of society. Zuko and Uncle Iroh make home in one of the lower sections and are faced with one main problem. A war orphan named Jett witnesses Uncle Iroh performing a bit of firebending and sets out to prove his guilt for being a firebender. Being a firebender isn't a crime in itself; but for many people, Jett included, being a firebender is equivalent to being the Fire Nation and doing the same things it has done. When Jett confront Uncle Iroh and Zuko in front of everyone, no one believes him. He is arrested and taken into a room, people there start repeating to him, "There is no war in Ba Sing Se," while a light circles around them. In a very literal sense, this is straight up brainwashing. In a metaphorical sense, this can represent multiple different methods of political propaganda– speeches, rallies, flyers, etc. Every political platform uses 'brainwashing' propaganda of some sort; Ba Sing Se being an extreme example of political propaganda gone wrong. When the main gang first arrives in Ba Sing Se, they are greeted with a servant of the Earth King, Joo Dee. Her appearance ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Examples Of Whitewashing In Movies No colours on coloured screens We all have visited the cinema once or twice in our lives to see just released movies with family or friends. Some rather watch romantic movies, others action or horror. There are so many different movies out there, each appealing to different people, but there's one thing most movies seem to have in common: the main cast consists mainly out of white actors. There are barely any movies with a diverse main cast. Even when the character in the movie is a non–white person, there is a white person playing that role. In many Hollywood movies characters are being whitewashed. Whitewashing is when in movies, white actors are cast for characters of colour, such as Black, Asian, Latino, etc. This can also happen in other forms of media such as books, fan art or games. Some examples of movies in which whitewashing happens are: Aloha ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Despite being in the Earth Kingdom and dealing with its inhabitants, Mai only gives them the standard nasty attitude that she reserves for everyone. She doesn't seem to have any prejudiced views on races in the Avatar world specifically; she's an egalitarian in the sense that she just hates everyone equally! Also of note, despite her obviously lethal combat style, she never seems to go for direct fatalities. She rather disable and disarm opponents. Unlike most villains, Mai's does what she does simply doesn't have anything better to do. Even while working for the villain, Mai had her limits where she put her foot down because it was a conflict of personal interest. This ranged from getting dirty, as when she staunchly refused to get into a pipe system that would lead to her getting covered in slurry despite the possible physical ramifications of facing Azula in combat. In this instance, Mai even states that Azula can toss all the lightning she wants, she's not getting in that pipe. Other examples of her just flat out going "no." and just not giving a fuck include refusing to fight Team Avatar when they try to rescue the Earth Kingdom's bear. Rather than engage Team Avatar and successfully do her duty, Mai instead is so bored with having to watch the bear she forfeits it to Team Avatar without a fight. Perhaps the biggest piece of evidence for her status as The World's Most Half–Assed Villain(tm) is when she attacked Azula and defied her so Zuko and Team Avatar can escape the ... From ongoing inconsistencies to poor special effects to nonsensical plot points, Fantastic Four failed to deliver quality in almost every element of the film. However, there were a number of causes behind the scenes that led to the film's collapse, including the misguided narrative direction of the film, the uncompromising tension between director Josh Trank and 20th Century Fox, and Trank's destructive and sophomoric behavior during and following the production process. The first speaker, Krista Aldritch presented the topic "Embracing the 'Dumb Blonde': Navigating Identity in Anita Loos' Gentlemen Prefer Blondes."
