The Removal of the Cherokee Essay
The tragedy of the Cherokee nation has haunted the legacy of Andrew Jackson"'"s Presidency. The
events that transpired after the implementation of his Indian policy are indeed heinous and
continually pose questions of morality for all generations. Ancient Native American tribes were
forced from their ancestral homes in an effort to increase the aggressive expansion of white settlers
during the early years of the United States. The most notable removal came after the Indian
Removal Act of 1830. The Cherokee, whose journey was known as the '"'Trail of Tears'"', and the
four other civilized tribes, Chickasaw, Choctaw, Creek and Seminole, were forced to emigrate to
lands west of the Mississippi River, to what is now day Oklahoma, against their ... Show more

Life was never the same after the Spaniards arrived. The Spaniards brought foreign diseases, horses,
chains, knives, and guns to America. The Spaniards did not settle the area north of the Rio Grande
because Spanish explorer Desoto did not discover gold. Spain reacted to news of Desoto"'"s failure
by blaming the Indians for his defeat. The Spanish developed a prejudice against the Indians, which
others followed.#
During the American Revolution the Cherokees, discontented with the colonists"'" expansionist
habits sided with the British. In the early periods of the Revolutionary War Southern militia attacked
the Cherokee people. A peace treaty with the Cherokee"'"s was made on May 20, 1777,
acknowledging defeat at the hand of the Americans. Consequently, the Cherokee Nation ceded large
amounts of land in the Carolinas and Eastern Georgia to the United States. After the Revolution
General Elijah Clarke of the Georgia Militia attacked the Cherokee nation on behalf of the American
'"'revolutionaries.'"' In 1787 he defeated Indians at Jack's Creek and prompted the Cherokee nation
to cede more land in Northeastern Georgia. To thank Clarke for his service the Georgia House of
Assembly granted him a plantation, which was located on old Indian land. #
After the Revolutionary War the Cherokee Nation '"'placed itself under the protection of the United
States and agreed to specified boundaries for its territory'"'

The Hiring Of General Hugh Judson Kilpatrick
The hiring of General Hugh Judson Kilpatrick was the turning point in U.S. history during the Civil
War because of his negative demeanor, participation in irresponsible activities, political ambition,
exceptional ability to lead Soldiers, and unethical military tactics. Sherman would utilize these
elements during the Savannah Campaign to create a psychological advantage that would ensure his
victory. Major General William Tecumseh Sherman began a historical campaign through Savannah
Georgia, eventually called "Sherman's March to the Sea" during the winter of 1864. General
Sherman chose an aggressive, reckless and politically motivated Soldier with a propensity for
embellishment known as Hugh Judson Kilpatrick. Chosen to lead General Sherman's Calvary
division, which consisted of First and Second Brigade, Kilpatrick would become one of the most
notorious and iconic figures in the American Civil War. 3
Hugh Judson Kilpatrick was born on a farm January 14, 1836, in Wantage Township, near
Deckertown New Jersey. Kilpatrick was the youngest of four siblings birthed into a military family.
His father Colonel Simon Kilpatrick was very influential and instrumental in being a catalyst in
Kilpatrick's quest to become an Armed Forces Service Member. Kilpatrick grew up in a privileged
environment and matured with an outlook of the world that was different from his siblings because
of his admiration of his father. As a child, he would imagine he was Charles the Great,

The Indian Removal Act Of 1830
"My friends, circumstances render it impossible that you can flourish in the midst of a civilized
community. You have but one remedy within your reach...that is to [move] to the west...The sooner
you do this, the sooner you will commence your career of improvement and prosperity." These were
the words spoken by Andrew Jackson to Congress on the Indian Removal Act of 1830. The Indian
Removal Act (aka the Trail of Tears) was a brutal, unfair tragedy that should not have happened to
the Native Americans. The way the Native Americans were forced out their homeland was the
wrong way for Andrew Jackson to gain land. Before Europeans arrived in "America" there were
about one to two million Indians. Then, by the 1800 's there were about two hundred and fifty
thousand Native Americans left. Ten percent of the population died from torture, violence, slavery,
and relocation. The first recorded contact with the Europeans that the Choctaw Tribe encountered
was Hernando De Soto 's Expedition in the 1540 's. Hernando was supposed to conquer Florida but
failed terribly. As De Soto 's brutalities became known, the Choctaw Tribe greeted him and his army
with a great celebration and later attacked them. The Choctaw Tribe gave De Soto and his troops
about six hundred and forty–four arrow wounds wherever armor didn't protect them. The
Chickasaws later trapped De Soto and his army in a fire so hot that the Spaniards had to build up a
forge and fix the steel in their swords. Europeans had more

Savannah Daily Republican Newspaper Analysis
The Savannah Daily Republican newspaper for the months of October and November in 1842 give a
snapshot of the main issues and interests of the people in this time frame. The recurring themes
center around the economy, sectionalism, and social reforms. The advertisements, local ordinances,
and legal notices highlight daily life during this period. As observed in the newspaper and as it is
commonly known, the economy of Savannah and of the South, was mainly based on agriculture,
primarily cotton, which was supported by the shipping and emerging railroad industries. There are
many advertisements in the paper for the employment of ships for ocean and river distribution
routes. The port of Savannah was very important in the exportation of cotton ... Show more content

Usually the local ordinances would be printed more than one day; this was likely so that readers
would not miss the important information. One of these ordinances is a perfect example of how life
was like for any non–white person, usually Negroes, and the restrictions on what they could do. It
was entitled, "An Ordinance for regulating the public Market in the city of Savannah," and pertained
to slaves, free Negroes, mulattoes, and mestizos using a stall and working in the meat market. They
could not rent, hire, occupy, or use either by himself, or by or through another person, any stall in
the market for the sale of large or small meats. Also, they could not act as a butcher, cut up meat, or
sell the meat. There were, however, certain meats that they could sell, and this did not prohibit white
butchers from employing slaves. If this were to happen, the person notifying the officials may be
able to claim the meats, and the non–white committing the unlawful activity would be subject to
fines or whipping, or both at the discretion of the mayor. This was not appealing to

Macon Museum of Art Essay
Macon Museum of Art
Macon Museum of Art, a not–for–Profit Corporation, is facing major financial problems since 2000
and up till 2002. Actions were needed to stop this cumulative loss and to achieve some profit for
2003.
After reviewing the case at hand, one can see through the brief history of the museum that it was
founded since 1925. In 1998, its name changed into the Jonathon A . Macon Museum of Art, the
major benefactor whose endowment helped expending the facility in the district. The Macon
Museum has different collections which are displayed periodically due to space limitations, but each
collection is set in its building architecture that accents the display. This fact makes it impossible for

The Board of Trustees had to make several projections which led that
2003 is not likely to bring no more than 1.6 million in county appropriations, low interest rates
which will make investments remain flat or decline, fewer contributions than 2002 and less
membership revenues. Yet there was a positive role for auxiliary activities which were intended to
produce profit.
The museum image, as explained by the director and Ms. Mercer and based on their marketing
research, reflected two images:
1– non–image at all
2– The museum is for specific people.
Therefore, this issue is a serious one, if people cannot find the museum interesting from the first
place how would they want to visit it? The museum offered different educational programs and
special exhibitions, and made lots of effort in promotion especially through press relations and local
media. Even though the attendance increases, yet the attendees would be non–MMA members.
Nevertheless, such exposure helped in the annual membership solicitation.
Memberships provide the largest chare of the museum's revenues. As they are divided into two
categories, statistics showed that in 2002, personal memberships accounted almost 80% of
membership revenue. Thus the market of the business consists mainly of personal membership more
than corporate. Yet, the estimated cost of member benefits provided exceeded $ 1 million per year,

Macon's Change in Anne Tyler's The Accidental Tourist
The Accidental Tourist by Anne Tyler at first glance depicts the struggle between two people to find
happiness together, but in actuality it shows the struggles a man faces with himself to find happiness
in his own life. Tyler presents a character, Macon Leary, satisfied with just going through life
unchanged. Eliminating all the luxuries of life Macon feels he will find happiness by going through
a scheduled routine everyday.
Struggling to accomplish anything on his own, Macon returns to his childhood home to further
simplify his life. Hoping to find comfort with his siblings, Macon enters into their life of order and

(Updike 107) and sleeping in a ?giant sort of envelope? (Updike 107) to keep himself from having
to make his bed. This simplistic lifestyle still can?t bring Macon the happiness he so desires. As a
result, he turns to the only people he knows who are just like him so that maybe he can fit in once
more.
Macon, still wanting to follow a system , moves back to his childhood home to live with his brothers
and sister. Still searching for happiness, Macon further isolates himself and in turn slips further into
his life of loneliness and self–absorption. Rose, Macon?s sister, has her kitchen ?so completely
alphabetized, you?d find the allspice next to the ant poison? (Updike 107). After supper all four
gather around the table and play a game of ?Vaccination?, which they made up as kids, so
complicated that no one from the outside could learn the rules. Still feeling connections to the
outside world, they then decide to go without answering the phone. The logic behind the means is
that if someone needs them they can stop by or call the neighbors if it is important enough.
Living at home with his brothers and sisters, Macon?s dog, Edward, is ultimately what brings him
into contact with the outside world. The vicious nature of Edward forces Macon to contact a dog
trainer to try to tame him. This is when the ?brassy Muriel? (Wiehe 96) enters into Macon?s life.

the Pulitzer Prize in 1937 for her efforts. The novel was the first and only published novel of her

so popular it was translated in roughly forty languages and published in fifty different countries. In
the seventy five years since its publication, the novel has achieved the status of an epic. The only
book that has sold more copies than Gone With the Wind is the Bible. It is a masterpiece of
American literature, and highly suggested to those who enjoy Civil War fiction because of its
historical accurateness. Mitchell once wrote the following about her novel. "Despite its length and
many details it is basically just a simple yarn of fairly simple people. There's no fine writing, there's
no philosophizing, there is a minimum of description, there are no grandiose thoughts, there are no
hidden meanings, no symbolism, nothing sensational." The novel is the basis of the exceptionally
admired Academy Award–winning 1939 film of the same name. The film rights were acquired to the
novel in July, 1936 for fifty thousand dollars. That was a record amount for a novel from an

The Battle Of The Civil War
BACKGROUND William Tecumseh Sherman, although not a career military commander before the
war, would become one of "the most widely renowned of the Union's military leaders next to U. S.
Grant." One of the most debated figures of the Civil War, Sherman has been equally celebrated and
reviled in public memory. He brought hard warfare to the South, leaving a wake of destruction
through Georgia and South Carolina which hastened the surrender of Confederate forces in the
Carolinas, Florida, and Georgia in April 1865. His harsh tactics ended the bloody conflict and
resulted in freedom for millions of enslaved people. Sherman 's March to the Sea or the Savannah
battle was the hostile propelled crosswise over Georgia by Union general William T Sherman amid
the civil war. After effectively directing The Atlanta Campaign prior that year, Sherman and his men
began the Savannah crusade from the caught city of Atlanta on November 15, 1864. The crusade
finished on December 21, 1864, with a catch of port city of Savannah. When Sherman began his
walk to the ocean; Confederate armed force was at that point on the back foot. The point of Sherman
's hostile was to handicapped Confederate economy and assurance and hurry the end of the war.
THE FALL OF ATLANTA From May to September, 1864 General Sherman effectively ran his

Confederate control. Atlanta was a railroad center point. It had weapons

Macon, Georgia – We Made The Big Move At The Beginning
Macon, Georgia – We made the big move at the beginning of my senior year and I was around 16 at

courses. But Texas had a whole new set of rules regarding graduation. There was a test called
TAAS, which I was expected to take with less than a year of preparation, while the rest of the
students had been raised and prepared for this test their entire school life. I knew that I would have
academic obstacles because the curriculum was also different and most of it focused on southern
issues that were new to me, such as FFA and welding courses as electives. If the new high school

From the moment we arrived in Macon, the family treated us like outsiders because of what little

while, I was enrolled in the local high school, where I had numerous cousins and one of my younger
sisters with me. My sister quickly found a spot among the "it" kids, while I stood back and observed
trying to make sure she stayed clear of trouble. I had few if any peers who talked to me when not
required. This school was a majority African–American, so again I'm not fitting in with the races
because I talk and act differently (my dad made sure we spoke proper, no jargon all the time). There
were teasing and name calling but I remained strong because I knew that my younger sister was
getting the worse of the deal. She had to begin school the way she enrolled and things were so bad
for her, that during her first week she got into multiple altercations with other students, some who
were her blood relatives. I had no friends, more so enemies and my guard was always up because
my cousins loved to get me in trouble, even when I had done nothing wrong. Finishing high school

Indian Removal Speech
Mr. President, Members of Congress I am a Cherokee Indian name Lauren who was removed from
my house from my land with my family. I was born and raised on that land that I instantly fell in
love with and never thought in a few years I would be removed from my home and forced to move
somewhere else forever! This shouldn't be happening to us, we are humans just like all of you here
today that we should be treating each other with respect and happiness. Me and my family and
friends don't deserve this kind of respect thats getting thrown at us nor should we be forced and
pushed around to move somewhere and know that our land will be owned by someone else. For this
reason we as Cherokee Indians should get our land back and unite together and live normal again.
I am here today in my family's respect that some of them died during the march. I'm proud to stand
here today in front of you guys today to try and get our land back and return to our homes. My
family, my friends, my people knew that this day will come but we thought we could fight back.
That did not work out for us after the deadline. When we were forcefully removed out of our homes,
put into cattle pits in the pouring cold rain, and had to march through the cold winter snow were we
had to burry a lot of my people and close ones. I have always wanted to know what Georgia wanted

The Second Seminole War
The events leading up to the Second Seminole War remain some of the most perverse and
contentious proceedings to have occurred in American history. Between 1819, the ending of the First
Seminole War, and 1835, the beginning of the Second, the United States government did everything
within its power to not only remove the Natives Americans from its borders, but did so through
seditious and deceptive legislature. It was during this time that the expansion of the power of the
president and a complete disregard for foreign affairs characterized the union and their willingness
to use extralegal means to achieve their desired goals. This era remains one of the saddest affairs in
American history, and provides insight into how the executive branch was able to attain new power
during the era of Jackson.
In order to understand the significance of the events preceding the Second Seminole War, one must
first examine the First Seminole War. Frustrated with Seminole protection of runaway slaves,
Andrew Jackson and more than three thousand men entered northern Florida in 1816 and began to
decimate Seminole populations. Despite most of these campaigns being unsanctioned by the United
States government and protested by the British and the Spanish, Jackson was received as a war hero
throughout the nation and protected from punitive measures. The refusal of the government to
punish Jackson for the injustices led to foreign hostilities with both Britain and Spain. The Adam–
Onis Treaty of 1819

Slavery And The Removal Of The Indians
Without slavery and a proper way to control native americans living on american land then there can
be no stable economy. America is based upon land and what can be gained from it. Slaves work the
land and indians run amuck on the land. So to justify both slavery and the removal of the indians:
Slavery is the basis of the revenue from the south, and to abolish slavery will lead to a
destabilization of the economy and destroy the freedoms that are trying to be achieved. Native
Americans are uncontrollable and dangerous without proper enforcement from the american
government. Frederick Douglas lived his life in slavery and witnessed the cruelty of a slave 's life.
White slave masters are power hungry and vicious.

Western europe needs America for trade. A Lot of the food that is used by the europeans is grown by
the south. And so without Slavery Western europe will starve. (Fitzhugh, Canibals, 3)
Now it might be said that it would be easier and more humane to free the slaves and pay them. But
the answer for that is simple. Slaves are seen as Capital there is no need say in an economic
downturn to get rid of slaves as there would be for paid workmen. To turn out a slave is to lose
money. (Fitzhugh, Sociology, 1) Then there is the fact that a lot of Americans lower class white men
are in poverty. They do not have enough food, enough clothing, or enough shelter. The condition of
these people is worse than the slaves. Slaves are brought from the wild confines of Africa to live in
comfort in America. (Fitzhugh, Sociology, 2) Slaves are hard workers, the are better at working in
the climate of the south than those europeans that try and work the land. Sure it would be better to
free them and pay them if we were in a place like england which has little land and lots of people.
But in America it is opposite, there is tons of land and little people. If slaves are free what is to stop
them from going and finding their own land? If that happens it will destroy the economy. It is better
to have 1 plantation with 100 workers rather than have 100 plantations with 1 worker. The latter
example will gain less income and the economy will fail destroying

Health Disparities Within Dekalb County
Introduction The purpose of this paper is to provide insight on health disparities seen within DeKalb
County. The residents of DeKalb County are diverse in race, ethnicity, and income. Since the county
is so diverse there are many health disparities seen amongst its residents. Health disparities occur
within a county when one group of a population has noticeably better or worse health than another
group within the same population. These groups of people can differ by income, education, sex,
race, location, and even sexual orientation. This Paper will discuss the health disparities that exist
within DeKalb County, and explain why these disparities exist from a historical, political and social
aspect. Furthermore, this paper will give background information on health outcomes from national,
state, and local epidemiological perspective in order to support the claims that disparities actually
exist within this county.

abundance of African Americans to the state by force. The history of slavery still impacts African
Americans today and causes many health disparities that can be seen around the world not only in

The New Green : Renovating Macon 's Public Spaces
The New Green: Renovating Macon's Public Spaces Public spaces are areas in the community in
which people can come into a common place and promotes community identity. Parks create an
environment for the community to reach out to each other as well as creating a public forum for the
community. We need to have the community more involved with each other and the best way to
create an enriching environment is if the community was able to come and share their many
identities to create a unique identity for the park. Tattnall Square Park hold a farmer's market every
week to promote community involvement and every so often brings in entertainment for the
community to experience. The green space that the parks will have will welcome other community
activities from other organizations and therefore allow the park to flourish. Parks are important to
the community because they lend a hand in creating an identity to who the community is. The more
inviting a community is, the more the community might intermingle, and the more inviting the
community will seem to others creating an environment that Village Green, Mid–City Square, and

Aes-Telasi: Power Trip or Power Play?
AES– Telasi: Power Trip or Power Play? The state of Georgia's geographic location provides
resources, in particular hydroelectric power sources advantageous to their economic well–being. For
this reason this post– communist state attracted the attention of AES, a multinational U.S. energy
firm. More specifically, it caught the eye of Michael Scholey, a prospective investor and manager
for AES. However, Georgia's impoverished state and rampant corruption throughout the nation made
the restructuring of Telasi difficult for Scholey. AES's western laissez–faire management style and
organizational structure did not work due to Georgia's past sour relationships with suppliers that
were fueled by unpaid debts, theft and corruption. AES's, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Although Scholey's attempt to incur profits through the AEG–Telasi operation was highly aggressive
and in many ways courageous and revered, the risks in this operation were too high. Unfortunately,
both the political and economic risks in this operation surfaced towards the first four years of the
21st century for this company. The consistent political battles that Scholey initiated with events such
as shutting down power to the Ministry of State Security, national televeision, and even President
Shevardnadze's bodyguards certainly drew significant consequences. (Wharton, 14) This leads us to
another political risk, dissatisfaction from the domestic government. Since corruption has become an
integral part of income for government officials, the attempted halt of such embezzlement within
such a large electricity company drew further political opponents, which put company employees in
constant attention and danger. AES's attempt to lace Telasi into its larger goal of globalizing its
multi–national enterprise and revenues was too ambitious. The risks came from all angles, and
politically it was obvious. In its first two years of operation, its costs already exceeded its ten–year

declaring that the Cherokees possessed the right to live free from the state's trespasses. Even though
the Supreme Court ruled in Worcester's favor, Georgia ignored the ruling and did not remove the

TRAIL OF TEARS
The trail of tears is also referred to as the period of Indian s removal. It was a period where Native
Americans in the U.S were forcefully relocated following the removal of Indian Removal Act of
1830. Those who were forcibly moved were from Cherokee, Muscogee, Seminole, and Chickasaw
and Choctaw nations in the southern U.S, an area initially referred to as the Indian Territory.
Migration from Cherokee nation had begun in the early 1800's where some Cherokee's decided to
move and settle in other parts of the country. A group of Old Settlers had moved there earlier in
1817 voluntarily to lands granted to them in Arkansas where they had a peaceful life. Afterward,
they were forced to move into the I Indian Territory (A. Byers 27)
Resentment of Cherokee from the whites had been building up ad it became worse after the
discovery of gold in northern Georgia. White communities turned against their Cherokee neighbors
due to the thirst for expansion and gold. Without consulting or questions asked, the U.S government
decided that Cherokee had to be removed, leaving their lands, home and farm. Before their removal,
the five groups lived together being referred to as the Five Civilized Groups. The white settlers from
the southeast had been pressurizing the U.S government to remove the Native Americans. These
settlers were on the Indian lands and wanted more for them. The move was initially opposed by
many as it was

The Cherokee Removal Essay
A long time before this land was called the United States, the Cherokee people used to live in this
land in the valleys of rivers that drained the southern Appalachians. These people made their homes,
farmed their land, and buried their dead. Also these people, who are now called Indians claimed
larger lands. They would use these for hunting deer and gathering material, to live off of. Later these
lands were called Virginia and Kentucky. As it is mentioned in the text, these people had their own
culture and own way of life. They had their own gender roles and religion; even eating food had a
different definition than the white man's culture. They had equality between genders, and other
members of the tribe had equal rights to talk. But ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since neither the United States nor Native Americans would give up their goals, the government of
United States figured that to win Native Americans and get all they wanted, government needed to
spend lots of money and time. The United States tried to figure out a peaceful way to communicate
with Native Americans. The new workable system fell to President George Washington's first
Secretary of War Henry Knox (p. 10).Henry Knox brought a new relation between Americans and
Native Americans. Knox and Washington believed that the "uncivilized" Indian life was based on
them not knowing better. On the other hand, their inferiority was cultural not racial (p. 11). In 1791
they announced the Cherokees may be led to a greater civilized society instead of remaining hunters.
So women started to weave cloth, these Cherokee planters became rich, and the first law established
in 1808 was about preventing the theft horses, also Cherokees invented a system for writing the
Cherokee language.
The Indian Removal policy started by Andrew Jackson and passed in 1830. In 1790s the Georgia
legislature planed a lottery system, that was system of land distribution and qualifying citizens could
register for a chance to win these lands. United States could not force tribal leaders to sell their lands
and many of leaders refused to sell their lands. However, in 1827s Resolution of Georgia General
Assembly declared that under constitution, the federal government had no

Jackson's removal policy did not sit well with a lot of groups; many were uncomfortable about it but
agreed it had to be done. President Jackson showed great leadership apart from everything else, and
handled the Indian Removal act when no one else wanted to address the growing issue of Indian
problem. Most government officials saw little to gain from addressing this and would do nothing.
Some historians believe the president's motivation was clearly out of concern for the Indians
customs, their culture and their language, but his first concern was the safety of the military, Indians
occupying the east might jeopardize the defense of the United States. In December of 1830
President Jackson would submitted the Treaty of Dancing Rabbit Creek to congress, it would be the
first to win Senate approval. President Jackson wanted everything to go smoothly so that the
American people would see that he was humane and that this Treaty would benefit both the Indians
and the American nation at large. With Jackson located too far away to oversee the actual removal of
the Choctaw Nation, they would endure mismanagement, theft, corruption, and inefficiency on a
level that would lead to their destruction. Jackson would be deeply offended and the removal of the
Choctaw Nation would become one of the worse horror stories of modem era. Anthony F.C

The State of Georgia: The Empire State of the South Essay
The state of Georgia earned the nickname "The Empire State of the South" in the antebellum period
largely because of its textile industry. From 1840 until 1890 the state consistently led the South in
textile production, Antebellum towns including Macon, Milledgeville, Madison, and Greensboro
experimented with steam–powered cotton factories, with varying degrees of success. The steam–

seemed capable of endless expansion, with large profits for all who invested. In 1844 the Athens
Manufacturing Company declared a 24 percent dividend on its stock, and Henry Merrell, the factory
manager at the newly constructed Curtwright Factory in Greene County, expected to make similar
profits for the foreseeable future. The very successes of Georgia's industrialization set forces in
motion that destroyed the reputation of its antebellum textile industry. Investors who were
disappointed with the returns on their railroad stock during the long depression of the late 1830s to
mid–1840s turned toward cotton factories. The state legislature encouraged additional factory
construction in 1847 by making incorporation for a factory much easier than for any other company.
Accordingly, the number of cotton and wool factories in Georgia grew from fourteen to thirty–five
between 1844 and 1849. But the census counts frequently omitted factories that were temporarily
inoperative or under construction, and the number continued to increase. In 1851 local

W.T. Anderson's Efforts to Aid in Georgia's Advancement...
As editor of the Macon Telegraph from 1914 through 1940 , W.T. Anderson saw cities throughout
the Southern United States, such as Macon, characterized by sheer bedlam and agonizing dejection
following the Civil War. He sought to advertise the state of Georgia and the city of Macon as
progressive and reformed in order to attract the northern investors and capital necessary to revitalize
the region. Reforming state institutions and social climate, or at the very least creating and
maintaining the façade of Southern progressivism, became the primary focus of the Telegraph.
Following his arrival in 1914, Anderson took a progressive stance on lynching, a heinous act which
both made a mockery of the judicial system and race relations, in order to aid economic and
industrially advancement of the South, in particular Georgia, during this era.
Lynchings were commonplace, yet one of the most heinous acts of mob justice dealt out in the Jim
Crow era. Between the years 1880 and 1930, 3,343 lynchings occurred in the United States. Eighty
percent of lynchings occurred in the American South with the majority of these occurring in
Mississippi and Georgia (Manis 56). Macon was not an exception to the outburst of lynchings. Six
known lynchings occurred in Bibb County: one in 1880's, one in the 1890's, one in 1912, and three

A General of the Union army named William Tecumseh Sherman helped lead a campaign that
started in Georgia go the sea in Savannah, and finish to help aid the main forces in the Carolinas.
During this march the soldiers lived off the land and the Southern people's food and burning
anything that could be of military use to the South's forces. This march helped decisively end the

Other soldiers gave up sleeping, when it got to cold, to sit in front of roaring fires (Kennett, 1995).
The wind in the area sometimes combined with the rains and the cold air, nearly knocking over the
tents of the soldiers and making them freeze into the night. During Sherman's March to the Sea, he
made a stop at Georgia's then capital, Milledgeville. Sherman arrived in Milledgeville encountering
virtually no resistance from Confederate troops; for they were off defending Macon and Augusta
and various key bridges across rivers and gorges. The Georgia governor had fled the town and took
anything of value from the Executive Mansion, shortly before Sherman arrived. Sherman took note
of the bare house and its slim pickings and slept inside along with some equipment and other
soldiers for the next few days. News of Sherman's capture of Georgia's capital helped break apart
the will of the Confederate soldiers. After Sherman's short rest he continued his march to Savannah
where he could replenish his supplies. Sherman arrived on the outskirts of Savannah on December
11, 1864. The city was occupied by Confederate troops, and they had the city locked down. To help
seize the city Sherman would have to capture Fort McAllister to be able to safely advance to

General Sherman's Unorthodox Tactics that Ended the Civil War
Scorched farms, slaughtered livestock, uprooted railway lines and cities set on fire was not typical
battle strategy previously seen on American soil. However, the Civil War was dragging on and
General William Tecumseh Sherman was determined to finally end the fighting. The circumstances
that initiated the war created a figurative and literal divide unlike America had ever seen. The
American Civil War took heavy tolls on the Union and Confederate States of America. Desperate to
end the bloodshed, President Abraham Lincoln trusted Ulysses S. Grant control of the Army and
Grant authorized Sherman the freedom to do whatever necessary to bring conclusion to the conflict
(Davis 22). In the military mind of Sherman, the end justified the means and this belief is well
documented throughout his 1864 and 1865 campaign through Georgia, concluding in Goldsboro,
North Carolina (Phillips 11). Sherman despised war and the fact that America had entered into a
civil war in the first place. However, Sherman knew the conflict was unavoidable (Meiers 26). He
made the decision to follow his allegiance to the Union and eventually became the general to lead
the Armies of the Cumberland, the Ohio, and the Tennessee into the heart of Georgia (Moody 22).
During this event the wrath of general Sherman would be implanted in the South's memories. By the

Summary Of ' Sheriff Bud Wendell Drove Patiently Down...
Sheriff Bud Wendell drove patiently down route 41. He wasn't necessarily needed anywhere and this
was perhaps the first moment he could relax after a rather contentious campaign battle against his
challenger and former undersheriff, Carl Stringham. Politics in the South could get down–right
nasty at times, but Sheriff Wendell took small solace in the fact that it wasn't he who spread the
rumors of Stringham's clandestine romances with men from a neighboring town.
Sure, Sheriff Wendell knew that Stringham was a homosexual. Stringham had worked as his deputy
for twelve years and what man wouldn't be aware of such preferences after being in the company of
another antithetically oriented man for so long. It never made a difference to him, though. Bud knew
Carl was a strong man and would have made an honest sheriff, but politics in the south was never
about a man's merits or soul. More often than not, a lever was cast for the man who reminded people
of themselves, at least their public selves. All it took in this case was one whisper from Julie Hollis
to Deanne White at the beauty salon back in October and the race for county sheriff was over.
Surely, her husband, Deputy John Hollis had nothing to do with it.
While he found Stringham's gossip piece to be an unfortunate setback in the merits of the sheriff's
race, Bud Wendell knew Carl was a good man but knew himself to be the better man. If you asked
them in private, most of the county would probably agree. With his

FactSheet) Atlanta is by far the greatest airport around and there seems to be no limit to its growth.
Airport Background
Atlanta's International airport has a rich and full history and is the airport it is today because of
everything it's been thru over time since the 1920s. Who would've thought that an airport the
magnitude and significance and the economic impact it provides today started as an abandoned auto
track on 278 acres of land. (ATL Airport History) Atlanta international had very unassuming
beginnings and it was no small feat getting the airport to where it is today as the busiest airport in
the world. Its first commercial air service started on September 15th, 1926 which was an airmail
route Tampa/Jacksonville/Atlanta operated by Florida Airways. (ATL Airport History) On June 12th,
1930 Delta, now the key player in Atlanta's exponential growth made its introductory flight, from
Atlanta to Birmingham, Ala making it an "official" permanent route on June 18th. On July 4th, 1934

MLK's Speech and Its Effect on Local Civil Rights Movement
The white man won't hand out integration on a silver platter.
The history of the civil rights is often told on the national scale or following well–known figures and
direct–action events such as the sit–in campaign and Rosa Parks' famous stand on a Montgomery
bus. More recently, historians have focused their research on the local level, revealing events that
are not prominent, but integral to the larger scale history of civil rights in the United States.
Although national power determined the "deliberate speed" of desegregation legislation, local
communities determined the actual speed in which they would be enforced. Some communities
pressed for immediate social change ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Following the momentum of the boycott, King founded the Southern Christian Leadership
Conference with the purpose of enabling "the region's Negro leaders to plan activities parallel to
those of the NAACP." The first goal of the organization was to register two million new Negro
voters before the 1960 presidential election and King began the summer of 1958 travelling to spread
the message of equality and nonviolence throughout the nation. One week prior to King's speech in
Columbus, his request to meet with President Dwight Eisenhower in order to address the President's
"recent plea for continued patience" and previous promises "to meet with Negro leaders" was
accepted, and the conference enjoyed moderate media attention. On May 29, 1958, King, along with
Lester Granger of the National Urban League, Roy Wilkins of the National Association for the
Advancement of Colored People, and A. Philip Randolph of the Brotherhood of Sleeping Car
Porters, shared time with the President to discuss the rights of Negro Americans. The meeting was
ultimately unproductive and King immediately assessed the meeting with Eisenhower: "I think he
believes it would be a fine thing to have an integrated society but I think he probably feels that the
more you push it, the more tension it will create so you just wait 50 or 100 years and it will work
itself out. I don't think he feels like being a crusader for integration." Although King was clearly
despondent about

  • 3. The Removal of the Cherokee Essay The tragedy of the Cherokee nation has haunted the legacy of Andrew Jackson"'"s Presidency. The events that transpired after the implementation of his Indian policy are indeed heinous and continually pose questions of morality for all generations. Ancient Native American tribes were forced from their ancestral homes in an effort to increase the aggressive expansion of white settlers during the early years of the United States. The most notable removal came after the Indian Removal Act of 1830. The Cherokee, whose journey was known as the '"'Trail of Tears'"', and the four other civilized tribes, Chickasaw, Choctaw, Creek and Seminole, were forced to emigrate to lands west of the Mississippi River, to what is now day Oklahoma, against their ... The Spaniards did not settle the area north of the Rio Grande because Spanish explorer Desoto did not discover gold. Spain reacted to news of Desoto"'"s failure by blaming the Indians for his defeat. The Spanish developed a prejudice against the Indians, which others followed.# During the American Revolution the Cherokees, discontented with the colonists"'" expansionist habits sided with the British. In the early periods of the Revolutionary War Southern militia attacked the Cherokee people. A peace treaty with the Cherokee"'"s was made on May 20, 1777, acknowledging defeat at the hand of the Americans. Consequently, the Cherokee Nation ceded large amounts of land in the Carolinas and Eastern Georgia to the United States. After the Revolution General Elijah Clarke of the Georgia Militia attacked the Cherokee nation on behalf of the American '"'revolutionaries.'"' In 1787 he defeated Indians at Jack's Creek and prompted the Cherokee nation to cede more land in Northeastern Georgia. • 5. The Hiring Of General Hugh Judson Kilpatrick The hiring of General Hugh Judson Kilpatrick was the turning point in U.S. history during the Civil War because of his negative demeanor, participation in irresponsible activities, political ambition, exceptional ability to lead Soldiers, and unethical military tactics. Sherman would utilize these elements during the Savannah Campaign to create a psychological advantage that would ensure his victory. Major General William Tecumseh Sherman began a historical campaign through Savannah Georgia, eventually called "Sherman's March to the Sea" during the winter of 1864. General Sherman chose an aggressive, reckless and politically motivated Soldier with a propensity for embellishment known as Hugh Judson Kilpatrick. Chosen to lead General Sherman's Calvary division, which consisted of First and Second Brigade, Kilpatrick would become one of the most notorious and iconic figures in the American Civil War. 3 Hugh Judson Kilpatrick was born on a farm January 14, 1836, in Wantage Township, near Deckertown New Jersey. Kilpatrick was the youngest of four siblings birthed into a military family. His father Colonel Simon Kilpatrick was very influential and instrumental in being a catalyst in Kilpatrick's quest to become an Armed Forces Service Member. Kilpatrick grew up in a privileged environment and matured with an outlook of the world that was different from his siblings because of his admiration of his father. • 7. The Indian Removal Act Of 1830 "My friends, circumstances render it impossible that you can flourish in the midst of a civilized community. You have but one remedy within your reach...that is to [move] to the west...The sooner you do this, the sooner you will commence your career of improvement and prosperity." These were the words spoken by Andrew Jackson to Congress on the Indian Removal Act of 1830. The Indian Removal Act (aka the Trail of Tears) was a brutal, unfair tragedy that should not have happened to the Native Americans. The way the Native Americans were forced out their homeland was the wrong way for Andrew Jackson to gain land. Before Europeans arrived in "America" there were about one to two million Indians. Then, by the 1800 's there were about two hundred and fifty thousand Native Americans left. Ten percent of the population died from torture, violence, slavery, and relocation. The first recorded contact with the Europeans that the Choctaw Tribe encountered was Hernando De Soto 's Expedition in the 1540 's. Hernando was supposed to conquer Florida but failed terribly. As De Soto 's brutalities became known, the Choctaw Tribe greeted him and his army with a great celebration and later attacked them. The Choctaw Tribe gave De Soto and his troops about six hundred and forty–four arrow wounds wherever armor didn't protect them. The Chickasaws later trapped De Soto and his army in a fire so hot that the Spaniards had to build up a forge and fix the steel in their swords. Europeans had more ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Savannah Daily Republican Newspaper Analysis The Savannah Daily Republican newspaper for the months of October and November in 1842 give a snapshot of the main issues and interests of the people in this time frame. The recurring themes center around the economy, sectionalism, and social reforms. The advertisements, local ordinances, and legal notices highlight daily life during this period. As observed in the newspaper and as it is commonly known, the economy of Savannah and of the South, was mainly based on agriculture, primarily cotton, which was supported by the shipping and emerging railroad industries. There are many advertisements in the paper for the employment of ships for ocean and river distribution routes. The port of Savannah was very important in the exportation of cotton ... One of these ordinances is a perfect example of how life was like for any non–white person, usually Negroes, and the restrictions on what they could do. It was entitled, "An Ordinance for regulating the public Market in the city of Savannah," and pertained to slaves, free Negroes, mulattoes, and mestizos using a stall and working in the meat market. They could not rent, hire, occupy, or use either by himself, or by or through another person, any stall in the market for the sale of large or small meats. Also, they could not act as a butcher, cut up meat, or sell the meat. There were, however, certain meats that they could sell, and this did not prohibit white butchers from employing slaves. If this were to happen, the person notifying the officials may be able to claim the meats, and the non–white committing the unlawful activity would be subject to fines or whipping, or both at the discretion of the mayor. Actions were needed to stop this cumulative loss and to achieve some profit for 2003. After reviewing the case at hand, one can see through the brief history of the museum that it was founded since 1925. In 1998, its name changed into the Jonathon A . The Board of Trustees had to make several projections which led that 2003 is not likely to bring no more than 1.6 million in county appropriations, low interest rates which will make investments remain flat or decline, fewer contributions than 2002 and less membership revenues. Yet there was a positive role for auxiliary activities which were intended to produce profit. The museum image, as explained by the director and Ms. Mercer and based on their marketing research, reflected two images: 1– non–image at all 2– The museum is for specific people. "Despite its length and many details it is basically just a simple yarn of fairly simple people. There's no fine writing, there's no philosophizing, there is a minimum of description, there are no grandiose thoughts, there are no hidden meanings, no symbolism, nothing sensational." The novel is the basis of the exceptionally admired Academy Award–winning 1939 film of the same name. The film rights were acquired to the novel in July, 1936 for fifty thousand dollars. There was a test called TAAS, which I was expected to take with less than a year of preparation, while the rest of the students had been raised and prepared for this test their entire school life. I knew that I would have academic obstacles because the curriculum was also different and most of it focused on southern issues that were new to me, such as FFA and welding courses as electives. My sister quickly found a spot among the "it" kids, while I stood back and observed trying to make sure she stayed clear of trouble. I had few if any peers who talked to me when not required. This school was a majority African–American, so again I'm not fitting in with the races because I talk and act differently (my dad made sure we spoke proper, no jargon all the time). There were teasing and name calling but I remained strong because I knew that my younger sister was getting the worse of the deal. This shouldn't be happening to us, we are humans just like all of you here today that we should be treating each other with respect and happiness. Me and my family and friends don't deserve this kind of respect thats getting thrown at us nor should we be forced and pushed around to move somewhere and know that our land will be owned by someone else. • 28. The Second Seminole War The events leading up to the Second Seminole War remain some of the most perverse and contentious proceedings to have occurred in American history. Between 1819, the ending of the First Seminole War, and 1835, the beginning of the Second, the United States government did everything within its power to not only remove the Natives Americans from its borders, but did so through seditious and deceptive legislature. It was during this time that the expansion of the power of the president and a complete disregard for foreign affairs characterized the union and their willingness to use extralegal means to achieve their desired goals. This era remains one of the saddest affairs in American history, and provides insight into how the executive branch was able to attain new power during the era of Jackson. In order to understand the significance of the events preceding the Second Seminole War, one must first examine the First Seminole War. Frustrated with Seminole protection of runaway slaves, Andrew Jackson and more than three thousand men entered northern Florida in 1816 and began to decimate Seminole populations. Despite most of these campaigns being unsanctioned by the United States government and protested by the British and the Spanish, Jackson was received as a war hero throughout the nation and protected from punitive measures. The refusal of the government to punish Jackson for the injustices led to foreign hostilities with both Britain and Spain. The Adam– Onis Treaty of 1819 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Slaves are seen as Capital there is no need say in an economic downturn to get rid of slaves as there would be for paid workmen. To turn out a slave is to lose money. (Fitzhugh, Sociology, 1) Then there is the fact that a lot of Americans lower class white men are in poverty. They do not have enough food, enough clothing, or enough shelter. The condition of these people is worse than the slaves. Slaves are brought from the wild confines of Africa to live in comfort in America. Sure it would be better to free them and pay them if we were in a place like england which has little land and lots of people. But in America it is opposite, there is tons of land and little people. If slaves are free what is to stop them from going and finding their own land? If that happens it will destroy the economy. For this reason this post– communist state attracted the attention of AES, a multinational U.S. energy firm. The consistent political battles that Scholey initiated with events such as shutting down power to the Ministry of State Security, national televeision, and even President Shevardnadze's bodyguards certainly drew significant consequences. • 48. The Trail Of Tears By James Collins James Collins Donald West History 201 December 1, 2015 TRAIL OF TEARS The trail of tears is also referred to as the period of Indian s removal. It was a period where Native Americans in the U.S were forcefully relocated following the removal of Indian Removal Act of 1830. Those who were forcibly moved were from Cherokee, Muscogee, Seminole, and Chickasaw and Choctaw nations in the southern U.S, an area initially referred to as the Indian Territory. Migration from Cherokee nation had begun in the early 1800's where some Cherokee's decided to move and settle in other parts of the country. A group of Old Settlers had moved there earlier in 1817 voluntarily to lands granted to them in Arkansas where they had a peaceful life. Afterward, they were forced to move into the I Indian Territory (A. White communities turned against their Cherokee neighbors due to the thirst for expansion and gold. Without consulting or questions asked, the U.S government decided that Cherokee had to be removed, leaving their lands, home and farm. Before their removal, the five groups lived together being referred to as the Five Civilized Groups. The Cherokee Removal Essay A long time before this land was called the United States, the Cherokee people used to live in this land in the valleys of rivers that drained the southern Appalachians. These people made their homes, farmed their land, and buried their dead. Also these people, who are now called Indians claimed larger lands. They would use these for hunting deer and gathering material, to live off of. Later these lands were called Virginia and Kentucky. As it is mentioned in the text, these people had their own culture and own way of life. They had their own gender roles and religion; even eating food had a different definition than the white man's culture. They had equality between genders, and other members of the tribe had equal rights to talk. But ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Since neither the United States nor Native Americans would give up their goals, the government of United States figured that to win Native Americans and get all they wanted, government needed to spend lots of money and time. The United States tried to figure out a peaceful way to communicate with Native Americans. The new workable system fell to President George Washington's first Secretary of War Henry Knox (p. 10).Henry Knox brought a new relation between Americans and Native Americans. Knox and Washington believed that the "uncivilized" Indian life was based on them not knowing better. On the other hand, their inferiority was cultural not racial (p. 11). In 1791 they announced the Cherokees may be led to a greater civilized society instead of remaining hunters. So women started to weave cloth, these Cherokee planters became rich, and the first law established in 1808 was about preventing the theft horses, also Cherokees invented a system for writing the Cherokee language. The Indian Removal policy started by Andrew Jackson and passed in 1830. In 1790s the Georgia legislature planed a lottery system, that was system of land distribution and qualifying citizens could register for a chance to win these lands. United States could not force tribal leaders to sell their lands and many of leaders refused to sell their lands. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Jackson's removal policy did not sit well with a lot of groups; many were uncomfortable about it but agreed it had to be done. President Jackson showed great leadership apart from everything else, and handled the Indian Removal act when no one else wanted to address the growing issue of Indian problem. Most government officials saw little to gain from addressing this and would do nothing. Some historians believe the president's motivation was clearly out of concern for the Indians customs, their culture and their language, but his first concern was the safety of the military, Indians occupying the east might jeopardize the defense of the United States. In December of 1830 President Jackson would submitted the Treaty of Dancing Rabbit Creek to congress, it would be the first to win Senate approval. President Jackson wanted everything to go smoothly so that the American people would see that he was humane and that this Treaty would benefit both the Indians and the American nation at large. With Jackson located too far away to oversee the actual removal of the Choctaw Nation, they would endure mismanagement, theft, corruption, and inefficiency on a level that would lead to their destruction. The State of Georgia: The Empire State of the South Essay The state of Georgia earned the nickname "The Empire State of the South" in the antebellum period largely because of its textile industry. From 1840 until 1890 the state consistently led the South in textile production, Antebellum towns including Macon, Milledgeville, Madison, and Greensboro experimented with steam–powered cotton factories, with varying degrees of success. The steam– powered factories in Madison and Greensboro went broke in the 1850s, while those in Milledgeville and Macon survived to serve the Confederacy. William Schley and by 1840 the state could boast fourteen cotton factories containing at least 16,635 spindles and involving a capitalization of more than $500,000. Georgia's textile industry seemed capable of endless expansion, with large profits for all who invested. In 1844 the Athens Manufacturing Company declared a 24 percent dividend on its stock, and Henry Merrell, the factory manager at the newly constructed Curtwright Factory in Greene County, expected to make similar profits for the foreseeable future. The very successes of Georgia's industrialization set forces in motion that destroyed the reputation of its antebellum textile industry. Investors who were disappointed with the returns on their railroad stock during the long depression of the late 1830s to mid–1840s turned toward cotton factories. The state legislature encouraged additional factory construction in 1847 by making incorporation for a factory much easier than for any other company. Accordingly, the number of cotton and wool factories in Georgia grew from fourteen to thirty–five between 1844 and 1849. But the census counts frequently omitted factories that were temporarily inoperative or under construction, and the number continued to increase. In 1851 local ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Anderson saw cities throughout the Southern United States, such as Macon, characterized by sheer bedlam and agonizing dejection following the Civil War. He sought to advertise the state of Georgia and the city of Macon as progressive and reformed in order to attract the northern investors and capital necessary to revitalize the region. Reforming state institutions and social climate, or at the very least creating and maintaining the façade of Southern progressivism, became the primary focus of the Telegraph. Following his arrival in 1914, Anderson took a progressive stance on lynching, a heinous act which both made a mockery of the judicial system and race relations, in order to aid economic and industrially advancement of the South, in particular Georgia, during this era. Lynchings were commonplace, yet one of the most heinous acts of mob justice dealt out in the Jim Crow era. Between the years 1880 and 1930, 3,343 lynchings occurred in the United States. Eighty percent of lynchings occurred in the American South with the majority of these occurring in Mississippi and Georgia (Manis 56). Macon was not an exception to the outburst of lynchings. The wind in the area sometimes combined with the rains and the cold air, nearly knocking over the tents of the soldiers and making them freeze into the night. During Sherman's March to the Sea, he made a stop at Georgia's then capital, Milledgeville. Sherman arrived in Milledgeville encountering virtually no resistance from Confederate troops; for they were off defending Macon and Augusta and various key bridges across rivers and gorges. The Georgia governor had fled the town and took anything of value from the Executive Mansion, shortly before Sherman arrived. Sherman took note of the bare house and its slim pickings and slept inside along with some equipment and other soldiers for the next few days. News of Sherman's capture of Georgia's capital helped break apart the will of the Confederate soldiers. After Sherman's short rest he continued his march to Savannah where he could replenish his supplies. Sherman arrived on the outskirts of Savannah on December 11, 1864. The city was occupied by Confederate troops, and they had the city locked down. To help seize the city Sherman would have to capture Fort McAllister to be able to safely advance to Savannah. An Analysis Of Sherman's Unorthodox Tactics Of The Civil War Aaron Ganss Dr. Lisa Arter ENGL 2010: Toulmin Argument 20 July 2015 General Sherman's Unorthodox Tactics that Ended the Civil War Scorched farms, slaughtered livestock, uprooted railway lines and cities set on fire was not typical battle strategy previously seen on American soil. However, the Civil War was dragging on and General William Tecumseh Sherman was determined to finally end the fighting. The circumstances that initiated the war created a figurative and literal divide unlike America had ever seen. The American Civil War took heavy tolls on the Union and Confederate States of America. Desperate to end the bloodshed, President Abraham Lincoln trusted Ulysses S. Grant control of the Army and Grant authorized Sherman the freedom to do whatever necessary to bring conclusion to the conflict (Davis 22). In the military mind of Sherman, the end justified the means and this belief is well documented throughout his 1864 and 1865 campaign through Georgia, concluding in Goldsboro, North Carolina (Phillips 11). Sherman despised war and the fact that America had entered into a civil war in the first place. However, Sherman knew the conflict was unavoidable (Meiers 26). He made the decision to follow his allegiance to the Union and eventually became the general to lead the Armies of the Cumberland, the Ohio, and the Tennessee into the heart of Georgia (Moody 22). He wasn't necessarily needed anywhere and this was perhaps the first moment he could relax after a rather contentious campaign battle against his challenger and former undersheriff, Carl Stringham. Politics in the South could get down–right nasty at times, but Sheriff Wendell took small solace in the fact that it wasn't he who spread the rumors of Stringham's clandestine romances with men from a neighboring town. Sure, Sheriff Wendell knew that Stringham was a homosexual. Stringham had worked as his deputy for twelve years and what man wouldn't be aware of such preferences after being in the company of another antithetically oriented man for so long. It never made a difference to him, though. Bud knew Carl was a strong man and would have made an honest sheriff, but politics in the south was never about a man's merits or soul. More often than not, a lever was cast for the man who reminded people of themselves, at least their public selves. All it took in this case was one whisper from Julie Hollis to Deanne White at the beauty salon back in October and the race for county sheriff was over. Surely, her husband, Deputy John Hollis had nothing to do with it. While he found Stringham's gossip piece to be an unfortunate setback in the merits of the sheriff's race, Bud Wendell knew Carl was a good man but knew himself to be the better man.
