Cat Observation
I think that the introduction to the speech went well. When I started the speech, I thought that my cat
would come home from the veterinary clinic healthy. It was hard to do the speech after he passed
away. I mess up in a few spots, because I was holding tears back. I believe that the organization of
my speech was well. I did stumble with some of my words that messed me up on the speech. I did
not tell where all my information came from in the speech, but one time. As all my information
came from all three sources, I would have repeated myself throughout the speech.
However, I do believe that I gained the interest of my audience. Urinary blockage in cats is hard to
notice if you do not know what you are looking for. I believe that my audience now understands
what can happen to a cat with or without a veterinary's help.
II. Body I believe that the body of my speech were clearly stated. I gave details of what someone
could look for to know if their cat is having problems. I think that my evidence is also plainly stated,
considering I lost my cat to this disease. I planned my speech as I was told everyday what was going
on with my cat. I added information as it was giving to me. As a peer told me, I also think that my ...

I know that is some parts of my speech it was hard to remain calm. I did however; keep eye contact
with my audience during my speech. As much as I tried some of my distractions, I could not avoid. I
did try to add vocal variety to add impact to the word death in my speech. I think that I did
communicate enthusiasm for the topic that I choose. It is something that I think everyone should
know about. I did not move around much due to my space that I had to do my speech. During my
practice speech, I was pacing and I did not like the way that it made me look, so in the final I tried to
stand still. I did move my arms to show which part of the body that I was talking about throughout

Feral Cats Essay
Cats are one of the most beloved pets to humans beings. Though they provided a sense of comfort
and love, there is a dark side to these soft, adorable, felines. Cats, both domestic and feral, poses a
serious threat to native bird populations in the United States and health risk to both people and other
animals. It is important that people realize the impact that feral cats have in the environment that
they inhabit and how it not only effects other species, but us humans as well. Feral cats have no
form of human interaction and therefore are difficult and or nearly impossible to assimilate as a
regular house pet. There appears to be limited options on what can be done to help assist in the
reduction of feral cat populations without sparking ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is important to note the difference between stray cats and feral cats. Stray cats are cats that were
once owned and then later abandoned or lost. Feral cats are cats that grew up with no human
contact. Cat colonies are not some big happy cat family like "Cat Warriors" According to this article,
in the 1980's, the population of Brown Pelican colonies decreased as the population of feral cats
increased, "Feral cats could depress Brown Pelican productivity in local areas..." (Daniel, James,
Gene, Franklin, Leopoldp). Brown Pelicans constructs their nests close to the ground. Their natural
predators when it comes to eating their offspring's have been black rats. However, this relationship
between pelicans and rats have always existed before the introduction of cats. With cats interring the
game, Brown Pelicans not only have to defend their eggs and hatchlings from rats, but also a new,
and skilled predator; cats having the ability to attack and kill both parents and offspring will surely
lead to the extinction of Brown Pelicans along the California coast. Piping Plover, California
Clapper Rail, Florida Scrub–Jay, and Hawaiian Petre are example of rare species of birds that find
their existence threatened by cats.
According to an article from abcbirds.org, "cats carry bacteria and viruses in their mouths, some of
which can be transmitted to their victims. Even if treatment is administered immediately, only about

The Domestication of Cats

Human Evolution
The domesticated cat is one of the most interesting animals there is. It's widely spread across the
entire planet and was recently introduced to Australia. Even though they are so populated and loved
around the world for a number of reasons, their origins are ambiguous and hard to see where they
really began. This paper will show you how cats have changed over time, in what ways they have
changed, where they originated from, etc. I will explain how they went from big cats like lions or
tigers to house hold pets that we know and love today.
It all started in the Oligocene era (25 MYA – Present) where the first signs of what is now called
felines or cats of our own era were found. Before this they didn't look like the cats of today and they
branched off and formed uniquely different families of animals. Felidae are members of the cat
family, which includes the subfamilies Pantherinae and Felinae such as domestic cats, tiger, lion,
ocelot, etc. Felinae are what we know of today as house cats or domesticated cats and the small wild
cats.
Near Eastern wild cats (Felis silvestris lybica) are the maternal ancestors of the domesticated cat.
These felines were attracted to food sources in early agricultural settlements. "A wildcat from the
site of Klimonas shows that they were introduced to Cyprus 11,000–10,500 B.P. (all dates are
reported in calibrated years before present)". The Near Eastern wild cats are

Cat Chat: How Cats Communicate
Cat Chat: How Cats Communicate
Don't know what your cat is trying to tell you?
You might not, if you haven't been around felines a lot.
Of course, cats meow. And the type of meow they use gives you a good idea of what they're trying
to communicate with you. This is especially true if your pet is a Siamese cat. This breed of cat is
very vocal. One Siamese owner had a cat that meowed loudly – and persistently – whenever it
wanted to play a game of hide and seek. Every time the cat used his "special meow", which the
owner recognized, she knew that he was "hiding" and needed to be "found." She dutifully played.
In fact, Siamese cats have a voice that's often mistaken for a human voice. When a Siamese cat in
heat, he sounds very human–like. Don't be surprised if your cat almost seems to be saying "hello."
It's eerie to hear in the middle of the night. Many individuals also think that the meow of a Siamese
cat is similar to a human baby crying.
But all cats use their voices at one time or another. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some experts think it's a feline form of "meditation" and that this action comforts them. If this
theory is at all correct, the "purring" sound of the feline is the equivalent of our "Ohm" when we
meditate.
When your cat trusts you enough, she'll eventually roll over on her back, exposing her stomach.
This, in cat behavior, is the ultimate form of submission. You should be impressed. It does not
necessarily mean though that he wants his tummy rubbed. So be careful life you try this. To discover
your cat's true feelings, watch how he holds his tail. The way in which he switches his tail is also a
subtle form of communication. Cats are not dogs. When a dog wags his tail, he's a happy animal. A
cat whose tail is flicking rapidly back and forth – the equivalent of a wag – is actually annoyed . . .

Domestication Of Cats Essay
Cats have been around for a long time, they have been worshipped, praised, and cared for like
family. Originally, it didn't start that way since unlike dogs they have not been domesticated yet nor
were they ever domesticated since ancient times. It all started as a mutual friendship or a symbiosis
relationship where both benefit from it. Depending where once origin lies it can be an alternative
where cats were treated or depicted in legends and stories. In the end, it can be ambiguous that cats
never were ruled by humans but more that cats ruled over humans, and they still do so today.
In the beginning of human civilization, where people began to settle down and begin agriculture as
population grew, and such as the crops grew so did the problems. Diseases and rodents were
becoming more common and capable of spreading in fatal rates because of the rapidly densing
population. Cats approached civilizations, being lured by the gain they could have from rodents that
thrived in the population, being predicted that cats could have saved humanity to some extent and
prevented epidemics. Cats remained with the humans just for their own personal need and people
never complained about their appearance since cats were regarded as pest control. This let crops
from being eaten or being contaminated by rodents. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Dogs And Cats
Dogs and cats are the most common pets in the United States. In most cases, people prefer one over
the other. Meaning some people are either a dog lover or a cat lover. There has been plenty of
debates and studies done to decide what animal is better. But in the end, it is up to the person caring
for the animal to know which one suits them better. Although dogs and cats have several similarities,
they are very different. By looking at each animal, we will discuss the similarities and differences of
the attention, time, care and cost of each require and learn why these animals may be chosen
together or one picked over the other.
First of all, both animals require attention and time. Although both animals require these things, it's

Dogs go the bathroom outside. This usually requires the owner to let the dog outside and then let
them back inside once the duty is done. Most dog owners also like to pick up the poop in their yard.
Cats on the other hand, go the bathroom in a litterbox. The owners aren't required to go outside and
wait for their cat to go to the bathroom. However, just like the picking up of poop of dogs, the cats
litterbox needs to be cleaned. It is all up the person on whose hair, food, on bathroom mess they
want to deal with.
Lastly, just like everything else, dogs and cats cost money. Right off the bat, you pay to adapt or buy
them. Although, depending on the breed and where you purchase your animals, dogs usually cost
more. Most dogs also eat more than cats, meaning you will spend more money on food. In addition,
dogs also need vaccinations, supplies like a brush, shampoo and conditioner, and toys to keep them
content. Cats will need vaccinations as well, a litterbox with litter, along with a few toys. Also, when
dog owners go out of town for the weekend, they will more than likely need to either board their
dogs or have someone take care of them, in which both cost money. Cats, depending on the length
of vacation, can be left at home with plenty of access to food, water, and a litterbox. As you can see
both animals cost money to buy and support. It is up to the person buying the animal to see which
animal is worth the money.

Cats: Domestic Cat
The cat (or domestic cat, house cat) is a small domesticated carnivorous mammal. It is valued by
humans for its companionship and its ability to destroy vermin. A skilled predator, the cat is known
to hunt over 1,000 species for food. Intelligent, the cat can be trained to obey simple commands, and
has been known to teach itself to manipulate simple mechanisms (see cat intelligence).
The trinomial name of the domestic cat is Felis silvestris catus. Its closest pre–domesticated ancestor
is believed to be the African wild cat, Felis silvestris lybica.[1] Humans have developed several
dozen breeds of cat, in a variety of colours.

Ears
Sixty–two individual muscles in the ear allow for a manner of directional hearing:[15] the cat can
move each ear independently of the other. Because of this mobility, a cat can move its body in one
direction and point its ears in another direction. Most cats have straight ears pointing upward.
Unlike dogs, flap–eared breeds are extremely rare. (Scottish Folds are one such exceptional genetic
mutation.) When angry or frightened, a cat will lay its ears back, to accompany the growling or
hissing sounds it makes. Cats will also turn their ears back when they are playing, or occasionally to
show interest in a sound coming from behind them.
Metabolism
Cats commonly sleep curled into a tight ball.

Cats commonly sleep curled into a tight ball.
Cats conserve energy by sleeping more than most animals, especially as they grow older. Daily
durations of sleep vary, usually 12–16 hours, with 13–14 being the average. Some cats can sleep as
much as 20 hours in a 24–hour period. The term cat nap refers to the cat's ability to fall asleep
(lightly) for a brief period and has entered the English lexicon – someone who nods off for a few
minutes is said to be "taking a cat nap".
Due to their crepuscular nature, cats are often known to enter a period of increased hyperactivity and
playfulness during the evening and early morning, dubbed the "evening crazies", "night crazies" or
"mad half–hour" by some.[16][17]

A Crazy Cat Lady
Vincent
I am the epitome of a crazy cat lady. Don't take me to a humane society, it will end with me
attempting to smuggle out a cat, and getting caught because...well, stealing cats is apparently
frowned upon in society. Yes, I am unhealthily obsessed; I love my cat more than Iove my best
friend, more than my sister, and on some days, I love him more than I love my parents. The sickness
started in August of 2015.
Well, no, that's actually a lie. That was when I got my first cat. I'd wanted one since I was ten years
old, but my dad always refused, saying he didn't want hair all over the house, and/or paw prints all
over his cars. But on Christmas of 2014, I finally got my wish...sort of. On Christmas day, one of my
presents was a bag ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
And I wanted a black cat, that way nobody would steal him if they saw him on the road (ya know,
because of "bad luck"). Everyone would be afraid of him but me. We even knew just what we'd
name him. "Vincent" was more of a human name, but that was the point. It was unique, and it was
the name of one of my sister's favorite TV show characters. So, why not?
Too bad it seemed like I'd never actually meet Vincent...
(But of course,) Until one day!
On July 1st, 2015, (Yes, I remember down to the day, don't judge.) my mom surprised me with a trip
to the Southwest Washington Humane Society, and there, I found VIncent. I guess, at the time, he
wasn't Vincent, but from the moment I saw him, I knew he would be the kitten I would take home.
Most of the cats were hiding deep in their cages, as if they were ashamed of being in the humane
society at all. But little Vin, he stuck his paws out the bars of the cage, begging for attention. As I
crouched down to look at him, I was greeted by his big, pastel green eyes. And then a meow, of
course. He was tiny, not just in the fact he was just a baby, but he was skinny. Now, I had seen slim
cats, but I could see poor Vincent's ribs even through his black striped fur.
"You'd be better fed at my house," I told him, as if I would get any answer (that was also the start of
my unhealthy habit of talking to animals).
I looked up at my mom with an expression that begged, "Mother, I love you. Pleasepleaseplease!

Savannah Cats Essay
Are savannah cats or serval cats hypoallergenic? Short answer is NO savannah cats and serval cats
are not hypoallergenic. For people who suffer from cat allergies, and those who do not suffer from
allergies I have to break it to you that ALL cats regardless of breed this includes Bengal cats and
savannah cats whether long hair, short hair or no hair can cause allergies. Any vet of any state can
confirm this known fact. Contrary to popular belief, allergic reactions from cats are not the result of
cat hair length.
The true culprit of cat allergic reactions is a glyco–protein known as Fel d1 that is produced in the
sebaceous glands of the skin, saliva, and urine.
The only breed that produces less Fel d1 is the siberian forest cat. The theories of why siberian do

Those are the long hairs within the cat's coat. So breeds where developed which lacks these guard

free because It is not the hair which causes the allergic reaction. The real culprit appears to be a
glycoprotein, Fel d1 which is secreted by the sebaceous glands and is the major cat allergen. This
allergen is found in the cat fur, pelt, saliva, serum, urine, mucous, salivary glands, and hair roots of
the cat. The main sources of the allergen, however, are the skin and saliva.
When a cat grooms/washes itself, saliva is deposited on its fur. The saliva dries into dust which is
released airborne when a cat scratches or moves and when humans stroke or brush a cat. Fel d1. All
cats groom themselves, even those which lack guard hairs or which lack hair altogether like the

Sphynx cats produce dandruff directly on their skin and though they produce less of it than furred
cats, they can still produce enough to trigger an allergic

Cats Meow Essay
So Why Do Cats Meow?
Most cat owners are troubled due to loud crying of their pets in the middle of the night. This has
been a common and certainly an annoying behavior of cats particularly, those older ones. Cats often
cry because they seek attention from their owners and they want to be reassured that they are not
being left alone. Cats' meow during daytime is natural, but when it cries at night, it seems more
demanding and disturbing to cat owners. There are reasons why cats behave this way. It can be due
to changes in the surroundings or due to transfer from one house to another. It may take some time
for them to fully adjust. Cat owners need to understand this behavior carefully, and find ways to
minimize problems on cat's meowing habit.

Stray Cats Collaboration
Today I met with a volunteer from the Cat Network, an organization that spays and neuters stray
cats in South Florida. The volunteer, Ibis, is currently volunteering at the adoption center, a place
were people looking to adopt a pet can find cats in need of homes. She takes care of the cats by
cleaning their cages and making sure they are well fed. She also lets them out of their cage
sometimes to play and get exercise.
When asked why the Cat Network is needed in our community she says that South Florida is
currently dealing with a massive overpopulation of stray cats. This overpopulation has continued to
expand in size and will only get worse through the years. Stray cats live hard and dangerous lives in
the streets and their lives can get even worse if they get pregnant. Cats can get pregnant the moment
they turn 4 months, meaning they can give birth when they're only 6 months old. And cats don't just
have one or two babies; they have litters. Typically, a cat has around 4 to 6 babies in a litter. Finding
stray cats and spaying, vaccinating, and then releasing them saves them from living even worse
lives. It also decreases the amount of stray cats living in the area since the cat ... Show more content

helping and caring for animals. She feels that through the Cat Network impacted many people's
lives by helping them gain a new family member. She definitely feels like she's making a difference

Dogs Are Dogs And Cats
To me, there has always been a big difference between dogs and cats. Some people like dogs more;
some people like cats more. To decide which one you like more is always hard. Some of those main
points are how they play, how to take care of them, where they go to the bathroom, and how big
they get. Dogs have been around for over thousands of years now as humans pets. The word dog
still has a much unknown origin, but people believe it came from a word in German named "docga".
The word dog means a domesticated carnivorous mammal that typically has a long snout, an acute
sense of smell, and a barking, howling, or whining voice. They have always been a very good
human companion. Cats have also been human's pets for over thousands of years now. The origin of
the word cat comes from old English and Middle English as "catte". The word cat means a small
domesticated carnivorous mammal with soft fur, a short snout, and retractile claws. One of the
biggest differences I always notice between dogs and cats is how they go to the bathroom. Cats
usually go in a litter box that's kept indoors. The litter box is required to be cleaned at least once a
month. It does tend to get very stinky after a while when left in the house. A nice thing about cats is
you don't have to be there to let them out for the bathroom. Dogs get put on a lease in most cases to
be let outside for the bathroom. If your dog is well trained a lease is not always required for them to
be let out. When a dog has to go

The Black Cat Analysis
Within us, we have the dark and the bright side. We do the good, but have evil thoughts and some
people act on it, thinking it may drag them to feel good in doing so. This informative short–story
provides a perfect example on how we take control of our mind. Edgar Allan Poe, the author of "The
Black Cat", develops the central idea that violence solves problems. On the eve of an unnamed
narrator's death, he writes a story of how his life collapsed, turning around his love for everybody
and falling into a big pile of a hopeless mess and madness by committing brutal actions. In the
beginning, the narrator gave a confession in retrospect; he was an honorable man born as a sane,
kind, loving. Additionally, he had a great love for animals. He married a girl at a young age. Their
house was like a mini zoo; birds, gold fish, a dog, rabbits, a small monkey, and a cat. The man
singles out a huge, beautiful all–black cat as his favorite, named Pluto. Because of its unusual
intelligence, the wife jokes around that the cat might be a witch in disguise. Over the course of time,
the narrator and Pluto created a strong bond between them. Out of the blue, the random mood
swings brought a negative impact to his personality day by day. Partly by alcoholism, he contributed
towards his act of perversity. The man reached to the point where he verbally and physically abuses
his wife and pets––except Pluto. One night, the narrator came home completely drunk. Thinking

Cat Dissection
Introduction
The Cat Dissection lab consisted of various procedures ranging from skinning the cat to performing
the likes of a brain surgeon in cutting it's brain out, but there were three major questions focused on
when conducting the entire process. They included muscular differences between humans and cats,
teeth and dental structure within the cat's mouth compared to a humans, and the third being the
differences between a human's fingernails and the claws of a cat. These three questions provided the
goal for the dissection of the feline. The interesting thing about felines such as this specimen Felis

Did you know that there are over 58 breeds of cats? Cats are very interesting pets because they are
smart and know how to deal with stuff.
Smarts
Cats are very smart. For example: A cat can be chased into a corner by a dog, the cat will trick the
dog so the cat can run away. A cat can trick a dog by running under something and leaving quick so
the dog will bark at nothing for about 5 minutes. Cats also have very sharp claws so they can swat a
dog so the dog will flinch and the cat will run away. Cats also taunt other animals by climbing
something high and just standing there.
Breeds There are 58 cat breeds! Some of them are the Cymric, Ragdoll, Sphynx Cat, Russian blue,

Boots Master Cat
Puss in Boots or the Master Cat by Charles Perrault is a fairy–tale written in 1697 in French. It has a
cat named Puss as the protagonist who saves his master by using trickery, deceit and intelligence.
The tale begins with a poor man who is given a cat by his father. The talking cat helps his master by
gaining the king's favor. First, he manages to give some rabbits and partridges to the King, saying
that it is from his master. Then, by cunning, he manages to get some fine clothes for his master, and
finally a castle. The king is convinced that Marquis (Puss' master) is worthy of his daughter's hand,
and the tale ends with a wedding, and Puss living a happy life ever after. The story though consists

"Do not fret, master. Just get me a sack and have pair of boots made for me so that I can run through

equipment to do so and that is the boots which conveys that it would help him complete his quest.
The boots or now the magical weapon helps him complete the quest by allowing him to run through
the forest and catch rabbits and partridges for the king, in other words making a good image on
Marquis. Similarly, a symbolic archetype could be seen in the beginning of the story within the
number three. "Once upon a time there was a miller who died and left no more riches to his three
sons than his mill, his ass and his cat...The eldest took the mill, the second the ass, and the youngest
was left nothing but the cat"(Perrault 1) Here it is perceived that Marquis' father had a mill, a
donkey, and a cat, but when he dies those are split among the three sons, three archetypally signifies
unity, and there are three heritages left by the miller, but are split among the three brothers which
conveys that there is no unity among the brothers without the miller and also something that causes
Marquis to be more poor than he already

Pallas's Cats
The non–fiction article ''Little Cats with Big Attitude'' was written by Fiona Sunquist. The main idea
of the article is how these tiny Pallas's cats are actually vicious wild animals. The Pallas's cats are
named after Peter Pallas, a German naturalist. They live in China and parts of Mongolia. These cats

Grandin's Summary: Cats Vs. Non Domesticated Cats
The first thing temple Grandin explains is that cats domesticated themselves because early human
civilizations had lots of mice for the cats to eat and pray on. Then she explains that when cats were
domesticated there brains got smaller and they purr even when they are adults also meow. The next
big point that the author explains that cats are closer to their wild counterparts than any other animal
which means that they can easily return to the wild than say dogs. Temple Grandin then explains
that cats weren't domesticated when dogs were because early humans wanted something to protect
them and the cat being small could fight like a dog could. Then she explains that domesticated cats
do not look that much different from non domesticated cats. She says "They evolved some different
coat colors, but most ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
That is the reason that anxiety medication can cause a cat to be less aggressive. The next thing that
she explains is that cats aren't dumb. Then she explains that cats are very social animals because cats
form a hierarchy with other cats. Temple Grandin then explains that researchers don't know why cats
form this hierarchy because they don't fight each other for the "top cat" spot. She also explains that
cats are super predators and will attack anything that resembles pray such as windscreen on a
microphone. Then she starts to explain that cats will notice every little change such as a lamp moved
and she says that cats learn a lot about their environment such as the example where she says that
the cats will watch a "cat expert" escape from a box to learn how to do it. That is the reason she says
cats can't get down from a tree because they probably learn that from their mothers and are taken
away from their mothers before they learn that skill. She further backs this up because she state that
only house cats get stuck in a tree not barn

Discrimination Of Cats
I believe that cats should all be treated equally. Every type of cat is beautiful and should be judged
the same. Whether it be long fur, short fur, no fur, flat face, defined face. They are all beautiful and
each have their own characteristics. So can some cats really be discriminated against compared to
others? Hairless cats and black cats are the most discriminated against because people don't like the
way they look and the cultural stigma. Them being hairless only adds onto their charm. It gives them
a cute look by all of them looking grumpy and their eyes are larger and prettier than other cat types.
Every cat type has their own characteristics and should be judged equally and fairly. I believe that
some cats shouldn't be discriminated against and judged unfairly upon based on looks, just like
Nelson Mandela believed that racism should be abolished and races being discriminated against
should have a fair life. Nelson Mandela was the South African president from 1994 to 1999 fighting
against the apartheid. The apartheid was a system of discrimination or segregation on grounds of
race. This is like the discrimination or certain cat types and how some get treated unfairly based on
looks. The apartheid gave the minority a hard time. Dr. Hendrik Verwoerd, the prime minister from
1958–1959, would polish the apartheid policy into a system he called separate development.
Minority groups of blacks, were separated into Bantu's, a place with self–government. This worked

Cats Communication
Cats are complicated characters whose behavior can be hard to read and interpret. Many people just
make the assumption that cats are jerks, and then move on with their lives. What these people don't
realize, is that the way a cat behaves can be decoded, and the best course of action can be taken to
deal with that cat.
Cats have various forms of communication that they use to get a message across to humans or other
animals. A few of these communication techniques include vocalizations, body language, scent
rubbing and spraying, and socialization. Communication can vary between individual cats as they
have different personalities and temperaments, and interactment can change depending on territory
and resources available.
With vocalizations, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Cats have pheromone glands in their cheeks, and use facial marking to mark a territory as "safe", as
well as mark prominent objects in preferred territory. Cats also have anal sacs or scent glands that
deposit scent as feces is eliminated. Spraying is a jet of urine excreted by the cat, accomplished by
backing up against a surface such as a wall. Intact male cats are usually the only ones who use
spraying, though spraying may continue in male cats who have been neutered in adulthood.
Spraying may occur when there is dissatisfaction with the litter box.
There is a difference in socialization depending on if you're dealing with a fully domesticated kitten
or a feral kitten. Fully domesticated kittens, if properly cared for and handled within the first 16
weeks, become friendly and engage in play fighting. Feral kittens around four to eight weeks of age
can be socialized within a month of capture. Adult feral cats are very difficult to socialize, and if
they are, usually only trust the person who socialized them.
While this doesn't cover every behavior present in cats, it does give you a basic understanding of
how a cat is feeling and therefore how to deal with it. When dealing with a cat and it's emotions,
remember that each cat is unique, and may not like or react the same way to certain

Cat in the Rain
Basically, this short story by Ernest Hemingway is about an American couple vacationing in Italy,
the second romantic country of the world after France (well in my opinion). It is raining and the
wife sees a cat in the rain and wants to protect it from the rain, which is odd because usually
children are the one sensitive and naïve enough to want to protect animals from such a thing as the
rain since it is not harmful to animals. Only human beings get a cold when standing out in the rain
not animals! Her husband, laying on the bed reading, makes a poor less attempt to offer his help
which can be interpreted as neglect. He tells her (line 9):" I 'll do it" still lying on the bed. She
finally goes by herself and returns unsuccessful. But ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So it might not entirely be her husband 's fault since she also ignores his compliments: "You look
pretty darn nice," he said. She laid the mirror down on the dresser and went over to the window and
looked out. It was getting dark." Here is another contrast made by Hemingway: the American way
VS the Italian way; Americans are perceived here as people desiring material objects and then
getting tired of them, and then we have the Italians who come at the same place for a different
purpose which is to see the war memorial thus honor the dead. Here Italians are perceives as people
who care about people and not having possessions; they rather honor the dead than stay inside and
read. To sum up, this story is about a couple in crisis because they are not on the same levels: one is
already a man and the other still a girl. We cannot say for a fact that the American wife is neglected
since it is really unclear whether it is that she is neglected or just too demanding but one thing is
sure, her husband makes no attempts to change things. They have to realize that they have a problem
or else their love will die like the raindrops on the

"Don't be upset, master. Just get me a pouch and have a pair of boots made up so that I can get
through the underbrush easily, and you'll see that you really don't have a bad deal." This was said by
Master Cat in the story "Master Cat" or "Puss in Boots." The reason for this being said is that, the
cats master is the son of a mill worker who had passed away. Him and his two other brothers all
inherited something from their father. The oldest son got the mill, the middle son got a donkey, and
the youngest got a cat. The youngest of the miller's sons wasn't happy with his inheritance, and
thought he'd just eat the cat and then make hand warmers out of the cats skin, but the cat had other

that both Anansi from "How Stories Came to Earth" and Master Cat from "Master Cat" are very

had a plan. For example, Anansi used his cunning ways to trick creatures so he could capture them,
and Master Cat used his cunning ways to help his master gain a new life style. Another similarity is
that both stories used anthropomorphism by giving Anansi and Master Cat human like

Feral Cats
Feral Cats have become a large problem in Oregon, as well as surfacing across the nation. Feral Cats
should be Trapped, Neutered, and Released instead of being Trapped and Killed. The Cats should
only be euthanized in the case of irreparable diseases. These cats deserve animal liberation in the
sense that they feel pain just as we as humans do, and we as humans possess the moral duty to
prevent that pain. With a non–egalitarian view of Biocentric Individualism view on things we can
determine the solution to the outbreak of feral cats.

Just spaying and neutering pets is very helpful, and secondly pet owners can keep their pet cats
inside so they cannot hunt for small animals or breed with outside, feral cats, by doing this it would
cut down on the need to euthanize so many feral cats, and save birds, and other urban wildlife from
becoming a play toy or dinner. Feeding a cat is humane for a day, but it is not enough. These animals
need to be trapped, neutered, and released unless they have some horrific feline disease that would
debilitate a natural and healthy life.
Cats deserve to be liberated in a sense because we as humans can see that the cats have a sense of
when they are in pain or when things are pleasurable, but in another sense these wild cats attack rare
birds, and why do they do it? –Because it is in their nature as a wild cat, not because they want to
exterminate a rare species of birds. Angus Taylor talks about the moral community and our duties in
the moral community. For example, we should not let these animals suffer; they are wild, run the
risk of being hit by a car, there is a high percentage of these cats who are carrying diseases such as
feline leukemia or FIV, and will live a short painful life full of suffering. So what is our moral duty?
We as human beings have the capacity to help the problem. We can stop the problem where is starts
by realizing that we have a moral duty to stop

The Domestication Of Cats
Cats are domestic animals who have lived with humans for a long period of time. They are very
popular pets in the world it is estimated that there is over 70 million cats in just the U.S. The exact
origination of these popular animals is unknown but information of the creature can be traced back
to Middle East about 9,500 years ago. A cat skeleton was found in southern Cyprus that matches
with that time period. In China as well about 5,300 years ago traces of the animal were found. They
ate any food they could find such as rodents and millets. It wasn't until the 5th and 6th dynasties of
China when the cat was declared a sacred and holy animal. However it was not yet domesticated,
until the Egyptian civilization where its talent for catching

help me stop the cats from destroying our community. On any given day, as a citizen of Thayer, I see

Vaccinate your pets.
Educate your children regarding the importance of caring for their animals.
Board up holes in your sheds and under porches to reduce the likelihood of feral cats taking up
residence.
Fill your flower beds with sharp rocks and pebbles to discourage them from using flower beds as a
litter box.
Use natural cat repellents such as cayenne pepper and ground mustard if you have children.
Use ammonia soaked rags and moth balls in areas children are not present to help repel cats.
Do not buy cats with the intention of breeding them.
This will help reduce contact with feral cats and impact the unrestricted breeding of domestic cats
with feral cats. This is not a total solution to the problem. However, it is just a step in the right
direction. Without community involvement and resources from our city we will not be able to
completely rid our town of unwanted cats. As a community, it is essential to speak to our City
Council members and Mayor with our concern. Volunteering your time and money to this cause is
worthwhile. Everyone in our community benefits from the lowered risks of disease and increased
city beautification. Speaking to your neighbors and friends to help raise awareness of this issue and
ask that they speak to their community leaders also will affect the decisions of our city law makers.
Together we can make Thayer a feral cat–free city and a safe place for our kids to play

Cat Feces Essay
Cat feces is categorized as a teratogen because it is directly linked to an infection called Toxoplasma
gondii, or toxoplasmosis. Toxoplasmosis is caused by a parasite that replicates in the host's
intestines and then shed into the feces. Felines, including domesticated cats, are hosts for
toxoplasmosis (Many & Koren, 2006). While most mammals and birds are also hosts for
toxoplasma gondii, felines are the only animals that pass the infection through their feces (Elmore et
al., 2010). Thus, while humans can become infected with toxoplasmosis in numerous ways, one
potential method is through the ingestion of cat feces. Regarding pregnancy, this infection can have
devastating effects on a fetus, particularly in the early stages of pregnancy (Dunn et al., 1999).
As mentioned ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Per the CDC, a pregnant woman does not have to get rid of her cat to prevent infection
(Toxoplasmosis Frequently Asked Questions FAQs, 2013). However, it is necessary to take
precautions to minimize the risk of exposure and potential infection. Safety precautions include
keeping a clean litter box by changing it daily. More importantly, if pregnant, it is best to avoid
cleaning the litter box at all. If no one else is available to do so, the CDC recommends wearing
disposable gloves and proper hand washing immediately after. Another important step is to prevent
cats from becoming infected by keeping them indoors; avoiding stray cats, kittens, and new cats;
and not feeding pet cats raw or undercooked meat. Additionally, if a cat is infected with
toxoplasmosis, it can only spread the infection for a few weeks after being infected by the parasite,
after which the shedding into the feces will subside on its own. Therefore, it is not necessary to have
a cat tested or treated for toxoplasmosis (Toxoplasmosis Frequently Asked Questions FAQs,

Cats And Dogs Similarities
Cats vs. Dogs
There are so many different options when choosing a pet for you and your family. Some people like
lizards, some like fish, and some like hamsters, or rabbits. Most people choose between the two
primary pets, cats or dogs. The question you might find people asking a lot is, "Are you a dog or cat
person"? In some ways cats and dogs are very similar. In other ways, they differ from each other a
lot.
Most people would think that dogs and cats are polar opposites and don't have much in common but
that's not exactly true. Compared to some other pets, cats and dogs have a lot of similiarities. To start
off, they are both domesticated animals. Some people like to buy exotic or wild animals as pets,
such as tigers or raccoons, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Along with similiarties, there are many differences between the two as well. The first difference
many people notice or have to take in account is the way cats behave vs dogs. Cats are known to be
very independent. They don't need constant attention and love like most dogs do. Elizabeth Allen
(2015) states, "The results of the study reveal that while cats might prefer to interact with their
owner, they do not rely on them for reassurance when in an unfamiliar environment, and the
researchers believe this is because of the nature of the species as a largely independent and solitary
hunter." This study shows that although most cats like interactions with their owner they do not need
them.
Another difference between the two is their exercise and bathroom needs. Cat's can typically lounge
around the house all day. If you get them a little scratch post and some toys they typically are fine
with staying in the house all day, unless you have an outside cat. Dogs typically need much more
excerise and play time. Dogs, especially puppies, have a lot of energy and need taken out at least
once a day on a walk or to play, if not twice. As for going to the bathroom, indoor cats typically will
have a litter box, which needs cleaned daily. Dogs should go to the bathroom outside which takes a
lot less maintenance. You can clean your yard about once a week.
A final difference between the two is the fact that dogs are "pack animals" and cats are not. Dogs

Cats And Cats
Cats need exercise to keep their body in shape, muscle tone, and claws sharp. It also helps prevent
certain health conditions, such as overweight, muscle stiffness, and rigidity. When cats and kittens
play, they improve their coordination, agility, and mobility. Encouraging your cat to exercise may be
done through playing with toys, socializing with other cats or by doing outdoor activities, if
possible.
Playing with Toys
Cats love to play, especially the squeaky ones. You can play with them using toys with bells, toys
with strings, and laser pointers. All you need to do is initiate the play by dropping a toy with bells
attached to it, then shake it to produce noise. Your cat will surely be curious about what is going on

It does not mean you automatically need another cat in your home. You can introduce your pet to
one of your friends that owns another cat in a neutral territory. Once they get acquainted, you may
have them two become exercise partners. At least two cats are likely to be more active than a
lonesome feline.
"A pair of cats who get along well will get plenty of exercise through their own wrestling and
chasing games. I've known older cats who still wrestle like kittens," said Dr. Jean Hofve, an author
and a manager of Little Big Cat in Denver.
If you do not know another cat owner, you may consider buying another one. It is easier for your
first cat to play often with the new one, provided they have been introduced properly. Your pet will
never be alone again.
Engaging the Outdoors
If you and your cats are cooped up in the house, why not take the fun outside and get some fresh air.
Cats needed to be harnessed properly before taken outside so they won't just run off. The cat harness
must be secure and comfortable on them, because you do not want to hurt their body, skin, and
damage their coat. Once your pet is ready, head outside and allow them to sniff their surroundings

Sphynx Cats Hairless
Why are Sphynx cats hairless? Not hairless but have very soft peachy fuzz that you cannot see,
unless you get real close. Sphynx cats are made from a regular cat litter but every so often (roughly
15yr) a hairless kitten will be born. Those are one of the reasons they are very expensive (they are
relatively rare). Now people have perfected the breeding, although they still have not figured out
how they are hairless or have very little hair on their body. Even though they are "hairless" they are
not Hypoallergenic, meaning you can get allergic reaction from them. The breed comes from Devon
Rex, which is a short hair, nearly hairless cat. Some people think that this is a gene problem while
most others thinks it's where they are born, "Environmental Conditions" which causes their
"hairlessness". From the research of the 'French Breed Standard', the hairless Sphynx cats are part
monkey, dog, child, and cat. Their active is "sarcasm", like a monkey they are sarcastic from time to

Research Paper On Cats
One of the Cats most remarkable traits, is the ability to ignore humans as well as being one of the
few domestic species that we Humans have yet to master. The quote by Mary Bly "Dogs come when
they're called, cats take a message and get back to you later" is so very true. Cats are smart and
training a Cat is very much different than training a dog. Most dogs will do something for you out of
love and respect particularly if you have created a bond with them or shown them that you are the
top dog and leader of the Pack. However, Cats are suspicious, curious and much harder to fool. They
wants to know whats in it for them ie. reward, and than they might consider doing it–emphasis on

Punishment does not work on a Cat. A Cat does not learn like a dog–no sharp vocal tones. This just
upsets Cats, making them fearful and even aggressive.
Your Cat will have a very different idea about what it should be doing and where it should be doing,
so it is best to establish a routine as soon as you can with a new pet feline. Litter training is probably
the most important. Do not rub the Kitten's nose in its mistakes as this tells the kitten to regard this
spot as a permanent toilet! If you have trouble with your kitten using the kitty litter tray, try moving
it around and keep it away from its feed and sleeping area. If you find a frequent "accident" area,
move its food close by the spot. Use "cats normal behavior" to your advantage.
Most Cats learn to keep doing things that you want them to do. Such as "asking" to be let out by
meowing or going to the door, scratching at the door. Cats do not learn to NOT DO the things you
do not want them to do, such as scratching furniture by withholding rewards. They do not make
those connections. To train a Cat to not scratch the furniture, you must use gentle deterrents that are
not directly associated with the owner. A squirt from a Water Pistol works wonders, shoots fairly far.
Great for training Cats to stay off the table, cupboards, refrain from scratching furniture etc. They do
put together the "bad action with the consequences of being hit with water. Sharp vocal "No" will
also get their attentions but don't over do

They have special adaptations that they have acquired through time and evolution. On the outside,
cats have whiskers on their face that help them to navigate (Foss, Stewart & Swift, 2008, p.12).
They also have cupped ears that can rotate to catch sound, which helps them to hunt (Foss, Stewart
& Swift, 2008, p.10). Their tongues are covered in papillae to help scrape food off of bones or to
clean itself (Foss, Stewart & Swift, 2008, p.10). Their fur coats protect them from cold, bug bites,
stings, and other irritants, and can also be raised when frightened or threatened to seem larger in size
(Foss, Stewart & Swift, 2008, p.10). Not easily seen are the sweat glands that cats only have on their
paw pads (Foss, Stewart & Swift, 2008, p.11). Moving inward, cats have a very flexible spine,
aiding them when falling to land on their feet or to help them get into small spaces (Foss, Stewart &

has favored night vision over being able to see colors during the day (Foss, Stewart & Swift, 2008,

Reflection Paper Of A Cat
My husband, Brandon, had always been adamant about never getting a cat. For about the first
decade of our marriage, I agreed. When we had kids, however, both of our children loved cats. Then
one day our 4–year–old son, Pierce, told me that he wanted a cat, I told him that I had secretly been
wanting one, too. We decided to start praying that God would send us a cat; the perfect cat for our
family.
For over a year we prayed for God to send us a cat. Then one day our son came to me and told me
that God was not hearing our prayers. It broke my heart. My little freckled faced boy was losing
faith in God. Why had God not just left us a cat right on our doorstep? If that happened, we would
know that it was divine intervention and that the cat was meant to be ours! When I saw how
disappointed my little boy was, I decided to take matters into my own hands. I finally told Brandon
that Pierce and I had been praying for a cat. I told him that Pierce was beginning to question why
God wasn't answering his prayers. So Brandon and I made a list of requirements that the cat would
have to meet if we were ever going to get one. The list was long: the cat had to be female, an adult,
have been spayed, up to date on vaccinations, she had to be free, and I preferred her to be black.
Since statistics show that more black cats are killed in shelters than any other color cat, I thought I
would surely be rescuing her from certain death.

Cat Ammression : Cat Aggressions And Its Causes
Cat Aggression
Aggression in cats is not unnatural. In fact, it is a common feline behavior, which should not be
taken lightly. While cat aggression may not be taken as seriously as dog aggression, maybe because
they do not go chasing after people or other animals to bite them, an aggressive cat can inflict
serious injury on a person or other animal.
Unlike dogs, which just use their teeth to inflict harm, cats use their teeth and claws to inflict injury.
An aggressive cat can cause painful lacerations that can become infected.
Cats carry a lot of pathogenic bacteria that can cause serious infections. A bite from a cat that is
carrying a bacterium called Pasteurella multocid can lead to a condition known as septicemia or
blood poisoning, which is often characterized by flu–like symptoms. If the condition is not properly
treated with the right medication, it can be fatal. People who are extremely vulnerable to getting
serious infections through cat bites are the elderly, children and sickly people.
Cats are also responsible for causing a condition known as cat scratch disease or cat fever in
humans, which is accompanied by symptoms including fever, enlarged nymph nodes, chills and
lethargy. Although the infection is not considered serious, there are different species of the bacteria
that causes this condition, which can cause serious infections that can lead to serious health
complications.
Cats can also inflict harm on other cats especially during fights, which may cause

Cat Observation

  • 1. Cat Observation I think that the introduction to the speech went well. When I started the speech, I thought that my cat would come home from the veterinary clinic healthy. It was hard to do the speech after he passed away. I mess up in a few spots, because I was holding tears back. I believe that the organization of my speech was well. I did stumble with some of my words that messed me up on the speech. I did not tell where all my information came from in the speech, but one time. As all my information came from all three sources, I would have repeated myself throughout the speech. However, I do believe that I gained the interest of my audience. Urinary blockage in cats is hard to notice if you do not know what you are looking for. I believe that my audience now understands what can happen to a cat with or without a veterinary's help. II. Body I believe that the body of my speech were clearly stated. I gave details of what someone could look for to know if their cat is having problems. I think that my evidence is also plainly stated, considering I lost my cat to this disease. I planned my speech as I was told everyday what was going on with my cat. I added information as it was giving to me. As a peer told me, I also think that my ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I know that is some parts of my speech it was hard to remain calm. I did however; keep eye contact with my audience during my speech. As much as I tried some of my distractions, I could not avoid. It is something that I think everyone should know about. I did not move around much due to my space that I had to do my speech. During my practice speech, I was pacing and I did not like the way that it made me look, so in the final I tried to stand still. • 3. Feral Cats Essay Cats are one of the most beloved pets to humans beings. Though they provided a sense of comfort and love, there is a dark side to these soft, adorable, felines. Cats, both domestic and feral, poses a serious threat to native bird populations in the United States and health risk to both people and other animals. It is important that people realize the impact that feral cats have in the environment that they inhabit and how it not only effects other species, but us humans as well. Feral cats have no form of human interaction and therefore are difficult and or nearly impossible to assimilate as a regular house pet. There appears to be limited options on what can be done to help assist in the reduction of feral cat populations without sparking ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is important to note the difference between stray cats and feral cats. Stray cats are cats that were once owned and then later abandoned or lost. Feral cats are cats that grew up with no human contact. Cat colonies are not some big happy cat family like "Cat Warriors" According to this article, in the 1980's, the population of Brown Pelican colonies decreased as the population of feral cats increased, "Feral cats could depress Brown Pelican productivity in local areas..." (Daniel, James, Gene, Franklin, Leopoldp). Brown Pelicans constructs their nests close to the ground. Their natural predators when it comes to eating their offspring's have been black rats. However, this relationship between pelicans and rats have always existed before the introduction of cats. With cats interring the game, Brown Pelicans not only have to defend their eggs and hatchlings from rats, but also a new, and skilled predator; cats having the ability to attack and kill both parents and offspring will surely lead to the extinction of Brown Pelicans along the California coast. Piping Plover, California Clapper Rail, Florida Scrub–Jay, and Hawaiian Petre are example of rare species of birds that find their existence threatened by cats. According to an article from abcbirds.org, "cats carry bacteria and viruses in their mouths, some of which can be transmitted to their victims. • 5. The Domestication Of Cats : Analysis The Domestication of Cats 11/18/2016 Dominic Caris Human Evolution The domesticated cat is one of the most interesting animals there is. It's widely spread across the entire planet and was recently introduced to Australia. Even though they are so populated and loved around the world for a number of reasons, their origins are ambiguous and hard to see where they really began. This paper will show you how cats have changed over time, in what ways they have changed, where they originated from, etc. I will explain how they went from big cats like lions or tigers to house hold pets that we know and love today. It all started in the Oligocene era (25 MYA – Present) where the first signs of what is now called felines or cats of our own era were found. Before this they didn't look like the cats of today and they branched off and formed uniquely different families of animals. Felidae are members of the cat family, which includes the subfamilies Pantherinae and Felinae such as domestic cats, tiger, lion, ocelot, etc. Felinae are what we know of today as house cats or domesticated cats and the small wild cats. Near Eastern wild cats (Felis silvestris lybica) are the maternal ancestors of the domesticated cat. These felines were attracted to food sources in early agricultural settlements. "A wildcat from the site of Klimonas shows that they were introduced to Cyprus 11,000–10,500 B.P. (all dates are reported in calibrated years before present)". The Near Eastern wild cats are ... • 9. Cat Chat: How Cats Communicate Cat Chat: How Cats Communicate Don't know what your cat is trying to tell you? You might not, if you haven't been around felines a lot. Of course, cats meow. And the type of meow they use gives you a good idea of what they're trying to communicate with you. This is especially true if your pet is a Siamese cat. This breed of cat is very vocal. One Siamese owner had a cat that meowed loudly – and persistently – whenever it wanted to play a game of hide and seek. Every time the cat used his "special meow", which the owner recognized, she knew that he was "hiding" and needed to be "found." She dutifully played. In fact, Siamese cats have a voice that's often mistaken for a human voice. When a Siamese cat in heat, he sounds very human–like. Don't be surprised if your cat almost seems to be saying "hello." It's eerie to hear in the middle of the night. Many individuals also think that the meow of a Siamese cat is similar to a human baby crying. But all cats use their voices at one time or another. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some experts think it's a feline form of "meditation" and that this action comforts them. If this theory is at all correct, the "purring" sound of the feline is the equivalent of our "Ohm" when we meditate. When your cat trusts you enough, she'll eventually roll over on her back, exposing her stomach. This, in cat behavior, is the ultimate form of submission. You should be impressed. It does not necessarily mean though that he wants his tummy rubbed. So be careful life you try this. To discover your cat's true feelings, watch how he holds his tail. The way in which he switches his tail is also a subtle form of communication. Cats are not dogs. When a dog wags his tail, he's a happy animal. A cat whose tail is flicking rapidly back and forth – the equivalent of a wag – is actually annoyed . . . or the least ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. Domestication Of Cats Essay Cats have been around for a long time, they have been worshipped, praised, and cared for like family. Originally, it didn't start that way since unlike dogs they have not been domesticated yet nor were they ever domesticated since ancient times. It all started as a mutual friendship or a symbiosis relationship where both benefit from it. Depending where once origin lies it can be an alternative where cats were treated or depicted in legends and stories. In the end, it can be ambiguous that cats never were ruled by humans but more that cats ruled over humans, and they still do so today. In the beginning of human civilization, where people began to settle down and begin agriculture as population grew, and such as the crops grew so did the problems. Diseases and rodents were becoming more common and capable of spreading in fatal rates because of the rapidly densing population. Cats approached civilizations, being lured by the gain they could have from rodents that thrived in the population, being predicted that cats could have saved humanity to some extent and prevented epidemics. Cats remained with the humans just for their own personal need and people never complained about their appearance since cats were regarded as pest control. This let crops from being eaten or being contaminated by rodents. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There has been plenty of debates and studies done to decide what animal is better. But in the end, it is up to the person caring for the animal to know which one suits them better. Although dogs and cats have several similarities, they are very different. By looking at each animal, we will discuss the similarities and differences of the attention, time, care and cost of each require and learn why these animals may be chosen together or one picked over the other. Cats on the other hand, go the bathroom in a litterbox. The owners aren't required to go outside and wait for their cat to go to the bathroom. However, just like the picking up of poop of dogs, the cats litterbox needs to be cleaned. It is all up the person on whose hair, food, on bathroom mess they want to deal with. Lastly, just like everything else, dogs and cats cost money. Right off the bat, you pay to adapt or buy them. Although, depending on the breed and where you purchase your animals, dogs usually cost more. Most dogs also eat more than cats, meaning you will spend more money on food. In addition, dogs also need vaccinations, supplies like a brush, shampoo and conditioner, and toys to keep them content. Cats will need vaccinations as well, a litterbox with litter, along with a few toys. Also, when dog owners go out of town for the weekend, they will more than likely need to either board their dogs or have someone take care of them, in which both cost money. Cats, depending on the length of vacation, can be left at home with plenty of access to food, water, and a litterbox. As you can see both animals cost money to buy and support. It is up to the person buying the animal to see which animal is worth the money. Although, dogs and cats are the most common ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 19. Cats: Domestic Cat The cat (or domestic cat, house cat) is a small domesticated carnivorous mammal. It is valued by humans for its companionship and its ability to destroy vermin. A skilled predator, the cat is known to hunt over 1,000 species for food. Intelligent, the cat can be trained to obey simple commands, and has been known to teach itself to manipulate simple mechanisms (see cat intelligence). The trinomial name of the domestic cat is Felis silvestris catus. Its closest pre–domesticated ancestor is believed to be the African wild cat, Felis silvestris lybica.[1] Humans have developed several dozen breeds of cat, in a variety of colours. Cats have lived in close association with humans for at least 9,500 years,[2]. Legends and myths about the cat ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... [14]. Ears Sixty–two individual muscles in the ear allow for a manner of directional hearing:[15] the cat can move each ear independently of the other. Because of this mobility, a cat can move its body in one direction and point its ears in another direction. Most cats have straight ears pointing upward. Unlike dogs, flap–eared breeds are extremely rare. (Scottish Folds are one such exceptional genetic mutation.) When angry or frightened, a cat will lay its ears back, to accompany the growling or hissing sounds it makes. Cats will also turn their ears back when they are playing, or occasionally to show interest in a sound coming from behind them. Metabolism Cats commonly sleep curled into a tight ball. Enlarge Cats commonly sleep curled into a tight ball. Cats conserve energy by sleeping more than most animals, especially as they grow older. Daily durations of sleep vary, usually 12–16 hours, with 13–14 being the average. Some cats can sleep as much as 20 hours in a 24–hour period. The term cat nap refers to the cat's ability to fall asleep (lightly) for a brief period and has entered the English lexicon – someone who nods off for a few minutes is said to be "taking a cat nap". Due to their crepuscular nature, cats are often known to enter a period of increased hyperactivity and

  • 22. A Crazy Cat Lady Vincent I am the epitome of a crazy cat lady. Don't take me to a humane society, it will end with me attempting to smuggle out a cat, and getting caught because...well, stealing cats is apparently frowned upon in society. Yes, I am unhealthily obsessed; I love my cat more than Iove my best friend, more than my sister, and on some days, I love him more than I love my parents. The sickness started in August of 2015. Well, no, that's actually a lie. That was when I got my first cat. I'd wanted one since I was ten years old, but my dad always refused, saying he didn't want hair all over the house, and/or paw prints all over his cars. But on Christmas of 2014, I finally got my wish...sort of. On Christmas day, one of my presents was a bag ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... "Vincent" was more of a human name, but that was the point. It was unique, and it was the name of one of my sister's favorite TV show characters. So, why not? Too bad it seemed like I'd never actually meet Vincent... (But of course,) Until one day! On July 1st, 2015, (Yes, I remember down to the day, don't judge.) my mom surprised me with a trip to the Southwest Washington Humane Society, and there, I found VIncent. I guess, at the time, he wasn't Vincent, but from the moment I saw him, I knew he would be the kitten I would take home. Most of the cats were hiding deep in their cages, as if they were ashamed of being in the humane society at all. But little Vin, he stuck his paws out the bars of the cage, begging for attention. As I crouched down to look at him, I was greeted by his big, pastel green eyes. And then a meow, of course. He was tiny, not just in the fact he was just a baby, but he was skinny. Now, I had seen slim cats, but I could see poor Vincent's ribs even through his black striped fur. "You'd be better fed at my house," I told him, as if I would get any answer (that was also the start of my unhealthy habit of talking to animals). For people who suffer from cat allergies, and those who do not suffer from allergies I have to break it to you that ALL cats regardless of breed this includes Bengal cats and savannah cats whether long hair, short hair or no hair can cause allergies. Any vet of any state can confirm this known fact. Contrary to popular belief, allergic reactions from cats are not the result of cat hair length. The true culprit of cat allergic reactions is a glyco–protein known as Fel d1 that is produced in the sebaceous glands of the skin, saliva, and urine. These breeds are NOT hypoallergenic or allergen– free because It is not the hair which causes the allergic reaction. The real culprit appears to be a glycoprotein, Fel d1 which is secreted by the sebaceous glands and is the major cat allergen. This allergen is found in the cat fur, pelt, saliva, serum, urine, mucous, salivary glands, and hair roots of the cat. The main sources of the allergen, however, are the skin and saliva. When a cat grooms/washes itself, saliva is deposited on its fur. The saliva dries into dust which is released airborne when a cat scratches or moves and when humans stroke or brush a cat. Fel d1. All cats groom themselves, even those which lack guard hairs or which lack hair altogether like the Sphynx. The dust forms on all types of cat hair or directly on the cat's skin if it lacks fur. This has been a common and certainly an annoying behavior of cats particularly, those older ones. Cats often cry because they seek attention from their owners and they want to be reassured that they are not being left alone. Cats' meow during daytime is natural, but when it cries at night, it seems more demanding and disturbing to cat owners. There are reasons why cats behave this way. It can be due to changes in the surroundings or due to transfer from one house to another. It may take some time for them to fully adjust. The volunteer, Ibis, is currently volunteering at the adoption center, a place were people looking to adopt a pet can find cats in need of homes. She takes care of the cats by cleaning their cages and making sure they are well fed. She also lets them out of their cage sometimes to play and get exercise. When asked why the Cat Network is needed in our community she says that South Florida is currently dealing with a massive overpopulation of stray cats. This overpopulation has continued to expand in size and will only get worse through the years. Stray cats live hard and dangerous lives in the streets and their lives can get even worse if they get pregnant. Cats can get pregnant the moment they turn 4 months, meaning they can give birth when they're only 6 months old. And cats don't just have one or two babies; they have litters. • 32. Dogs Are Dogs And Cats To me, there has always been a big difference between dogs and cats. Some people like dogs more; some people like cats more. To decide which one you like more is always hard. Some of those main points are how they play, how to take care of them, where they go to the bathroom, and how big they get. Dogs have been around for over thousands of years now as humans pets. The word dog still has a much unknown origin, but people believe it came from a word in German named "docga". The word dog means a domesticated carnivorous mammal that typically has a long snout, an acute sense of smell, and a barking, howling, or whining voice. They have always been a very good human companion. Cats have also been human's pets for over thousands of years now. The origin of the word cat comes from old English and Middle English as "catte". The word cat means a small domesticated carnivorous mammal with soft fur, a short snout, and retractile claws. One of the biggest differences I always notice between dogs and cats is how they go to the bathroom. Cats usually go in a litter box that's kept indoors. The litter box is required to be cleaned at least once a month. It does tend to get very stinky after a while when left in the house. A nice thing about cats is you don't have to be there to let them out for the bathroom. Dogs get put on a lease in most cases to be let outside for the bathroom. If your dog is well trained a lease is not always required for them to be let out. When a dog has to go ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 34. The Black Cat Analysis Within us, we have the dark and the bright side. We do the good, but have evil thoughts and some people act on it, thinking it may drag them to feel good in doing so. This informative short–story provides a perfect example on how we take control of our mind. Edgar Allan Poe, the author of "The Black Cat", develops the central idea that violence solves problems. On the eve of an unnamed narrator's death, he writes a story of how his life collapsed, turning around his love for everybody and falling into a big pile of a hopeless mess and madness by committing brutal actions. In the beginning, the narrator gave a confession in retrospect; he was an honorable man born as a sane, kind, loving. Additionally, he had a great love for animals. He married a girl at a young age. Their house was like a mini zoo; birds, gold fish, a dog, rabbits, a small monkey, and a cat. The man singles out a huge, beautiful all–black cat as his favorite, named Pluto. Because of its unusual intelligence, the wife jokes around that the cat might be a witch in disguise. Over the course of time, the narrator and Pluto created a strong bond between them. Out of the blue, the random mood swings brought a negative impact to his personality day by day. Partly by alcoholism, he contributed towards his act of perversity. The man reached to the point where he verbally and physically abuses his wife and pets––except Pluto. One night, the narrator came home completely drunk. Thinking Pluto ... It has a cat named Puss as the protagonist who saves his master by using trickery, deceit and intelligence. The tale begins with a poor man who is given a cat by his father. The talking cat helps his master by gaining the king's favor. First, he manages to give some rabbits and partridges to the King, saying that it is from his master. Then, by cunning, he manages to get some fine clothes for his master, and finally a castle. The boots or now the magical weapon helps him complete the quest by allowing him to run through the forest and catch rabbits and partridges for the king, in other words making a good image on Marquis. • 46. Discrimination Of Cats I believe that cats should all be treated equally. Every type of cat is beautiful and should be judged the same. Whether it be long fur, short fur, no fur, flat face, defined face. They are all beautiful and each have their own characteristics. So can some cats really be discriminated against compared to others? Hairless cats and black cats are the most discriminated against because people don't like the way they look and the cultural stigma. Them being hairless only adds onto their charm. It gives them a cute look by all of them looking grumpy and their eyes are larger and prettier than other cat types. Every cat type has their own characteristics and should be judged equally and fairly. I believe that some cats shouldn't be discriminated against and judged unfairly upon based on looks, just like Nelson Mandela believed that racism should be abolished and races being discriminated against should have a fair life. Nelson Mandela was the South African president from 1994 to 1999 fighting against the apartheid. The apartheid was a system of discrimination or segregation on grounds of race. This is like the discrimination or certain cat types and how some get treated unfairly based on looks. The apartheid gave the minority a hard time. Many people just make the assumption that cats are jerks, and then move on with their lives. What these people don't realize, is that the way a cat behaves can be decoded, and the best course of action can be taken to deal with that cat. Cats have various forms of communication that they use to get a message across to humans or other animals. A few of these communication techniques include vocalizations, body language, scent rubbing and spraying, and socialization. Communication can vary between individual cats as they have different personalities and temperaments, and interactment can change depending on territory and resources available. Intact male cats are usually the only ones who use spraying, though spraying may continue in male cats who have been neutered in adulthood. Spraying may occur when there is dissatisfaction with the litter box. There is a difference in socialization depending on if you're dealing with a fully domesticated kitten or a feral kitten. Fully domesticated kittens, if properly cared for and handled within the first 16 weeks, become friendly and engage in play fighting. Feral kittens around four to eight weeks of age can be socialized within a month of capture. Adult feral cats are very difficult to socialize, and if they are, usually only trust the person who socialized them. While this doesn't cover every behavior present in cats, it does give you a basic understanding of how a cat is feeling and therefore how to deal with it. Speaking to your neighbors and friends to help raise awareness of this issue and ask that they speak to their community leaders also will affect the decisions of our city law makers. Together we can make Thayer a feral cat–free city and a safe place for our kids to play ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 60. Informative Essay On Cats Cats can be intelligent, and wonderful pets. Sometimes its unbelievable what they do in their everyday life. There are so many breeds, that I plan to learn more about. Cats can control their feelings, and emotions. They are good at hunting, because they are strong and agile. There are many cat breeds, but I'm only gonna talk about a few of my favorites such as, American curl, Cornish rex, and the Ocicat. I chose these because I thought they were very unique, and different, like the American curl most were made from a mutation in the cats D.N.A, which caused the cats ears to curl. (Fogle Bruce) The American curls get there names by the way their ears curl back at 90–180 degree angles. They were discovered in June 1981, by 1986 they were ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 62. Cat Feces Essay Cat feces is categorized as a teratogen because it is directly linked to an infection called Toxoplasma gondii, or toxoplasmosis. Toxoplasmosis is caused by a parasite that replicates in the host's intestines and then shed into the feces. Felines, including domesticated cats, are hosts for toxoplasmosis (Many & Koren, 2006). While most mammals and birds are also hosts for toxoplasma gondii, felines are the only animals that pass the infection through their feces (Elmore et al., 2010). Thus, while humans can become infected with toxoplasmosis in numerous ways, one potential method is through the ingestion of cat feces. Regarding pregnancy, this infection can have devastating effects on a fetus, particularly in the early stages of pregnancy (Dunn et al., 1999). As mentioned ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Per the CDC, a pregnant woman does not have to get rid of her cat to prevent infection (Toxoplasmosis Frequently Asked Questions FAQs, 2013). However, it is necessary to take precautions to minimize the risk of exposure and potential infection. Safety precautions include keeping a clean litter box by changing it daily. More importantly, if pregnant, it is best to avoid cleaning the litter box at all. If no one else is available to do so, the CDC recommends wearing disposable gloves and proper hand washing immediately after. Another important step is to prevent cats from becoming infected by keeping them indoors; avoiding stray cats, kittens, and new cats; and not feeding pet cats raw or undercooked meat. Additionally, if a cat is infected with toxoplasmosis, it can only spread the infection for a few weeks after being infected by the parasite, after which the shedding into the feces will subside on its own. Therefore, it is not necessary to have a cat tested or treated for toxoplasmosis (Toxoplasmosis Frequently Asked Questions FAQs, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 64. Cats And Dogs Similarities Cats vs. Dogs There are so many different options when choosing a pet for you and your family. Some people like lizards, some like fish, and some like hamsters, or rabbits. Most people choose between the two primary pets, cats or dogs. The question you might find people asking a lot is, "Are you a dog or cat person"? In some ways cats and dogs are very similar. In other ways, they differ from each other a lot. Most people would think that dogs and cats are polar opposites and don't have much in common but that's not exactly true. Compared to some other pets, cats and dogs have a lot of similiarities. To start off, they are both domesticated animals. Some people like to buy exotic or wild animals as pets, such as tigers or raccoons, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Along with similiarties, there are many differences between the two as well. The first difference many people notice or have to take in account is the way cats behave vs dogs. Cats are known to be very independent. They don't need constant attention and love like most dogs do. Elizabeth Allen (2015) states, "The results of the study reveal that while cats might prefer to interact with their owner, they do not rely on them for reassurance when in an unfamiliar environment, and the researchers believe this is because of the nature of the species as a largely independent and solitary hunter." This study shows that although most cats like interactions with their owner they do not need them. Another difference between the two is their exercise and bathroom needs. Cat's can typically lounge around the house all day. If you get them a little scratch post and some toys they typically are fine with staying in the house all day, unless you have an outside cat. Dogs typically need much more excerise and play time. Dogs, especially puppies, have a lot of energy and need taken out at least once a day on a walk or to play, if not twice. As for going to the bathroom, indoor cats typically will have a litter box, which needs cleaned daily. Dogs should go to the bathroom outside which takes a lot less maintenance. You can clean your yard about once a week. A final difference between the two is the fact that dogs are "pack animals" and cats are not. Dogs travel in packs ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 66. Cats And Cats Cats need exercise to keep their body in shape, muscle tone, and claws sharp. It also helps prevent certain health conditions, such as overweight, muscle stiffness, and rigidity. When cats and kittens play, they improve their coordination, agility, and mobility. Encouraging your cat to exercise may be done through playing with toys, socializing with other cats or by doing outdoor activities, if possible. Playing with Toys Cats love to play, especially the squeaky ones. You can play with them using toys with bells, toys with strings, and laser pointers. All you need to do is initiate the play by dropping a toy with bells attached to it, then shake it to produce noise. Your cat will surely be curious about what is going on and they'll be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It does not mean you automatically need another cat in your home. You can introduce your pet to one of your friends that owns another cat in a neutral territory. Once they get acquainted, you may have them two become exercise partners. At least two cats are likely to be more active than a lonesome feline. "A pair of cats who get along well will get plenty of exercise through their own wrestling and chasing games. I've known older cats who still wrestle like kittens," said Dr. Jean Hofve, an author and a manager of Little Big Cat in Denver. If you do not know another cat owner, you may consider buying another one. It is easier for your first cat to play often with the new one, provided they have been introduced properly. Your pet will never be alone again. Engaging the Outdoors If you and your cats are cooped up in the house, why not take the fun outside and get some fresh air. Cats needed to be harnessed properly before taken outside so they won't just run off. The cat harness must be secure and comfortable on them, because you do not want to hurt their body, skin, and damage their coat. Once your pet is ready, head outside and allow them to sniff their surroundings and get familiar with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 68. Cat Monologue I continued petting him while I prepared to go home. The cat decided to join me, so I let him. Sometimes I would stop to pet him while we walked. When we finally reached the house he made himself at home instantly. My wife loved him. However I started to dislike the cat. I didn't expect it, but the fact the cat loved me started to annoy and disgust me. Slowly this feeling of disgust turned to hatred. I avoided the cat, and the only thing that kept me from hurting it was shame. Shame from what I had done to Pluto. But slowly, very slowly I began despise it. I avoided the cat like it was some kind of disease. I hated the cat even more when one morning I discovered, just like Pluto, the cat was missing an eye. This made my wife love it even ... When it did this I was so tempted to hit it, but the thought of what I did to Pluto partially stopped me. The other reason why was because, I was scared of the cat. I wasn't exactly scared of the cat hurting me. I was scared for a foolish reason. The reason my wife saw multiple times. The patch of white hair covering the cats chest and throat. The only thing separating this cat from Pluto. I first I didn't think anything of it, but as time went on the mark seemed to show a certain shape. It was the shape of a noose! By now this cat had scared me so much it couldn't sleep. During the day it would follow my every footstep, and at night I had horrible dreams about the cat. I woke from nightmares to feel the cat sitting on my chest making is hard to breathe. Due to the stress of not sleeping, and being unable to escape the cat every last bit of good in me disappeared. • 70. Sphynx Cats Hairless Why are Sphynx cats hairless? Not hairless but have very soft peachy fuzz that you cannot see, unless you get real close. Sphynx cats are made from a regular cat litter but every so often (roughly 15yr) a hairless kitten will be born. Those are one of the reasons they are very expensive (they are relatively rare). Now people have perfected the breeding, although they still have not figured out how they are hairless or have very little hair on their body. Even though they are "hairless" they are not Hypoallergenic, meaning you can get allergic reaction from them. The breed comes from Devon Rex, which is a short hair, nearly hairless cat. Some people think that this is a gene problem while most others thinks it's where they are born, "Environmental Conditions" which causes their "hairlessness". From the research of the 'French Breed Standard', the hairless Sphynx cats are part monkey, dog, child, and cat. Their active is "sarcasm", like a monkey they are sarcastic from time to time. They are also very sweet and caring, love for climbing up high places. The Sphynx cat of today descended from a domestic short hair cat in Canada named Elizabeth. • 72. Research Paper On Cats One of the Cats most remarkable traits, is the ability to ignore humans as well as being one of the few domestic species that we Humans have yet to master. The quote by Mary Bly "Dogs come when they're called, cats take a message and get back to you later" is so very true. Cats are smart and training a Cat is very much different than training a dog. Most dogs will do something for you out of love and respect particularly if you have created a bond with them or shown them that you are the top dog and leader of the Pack. However, Cats are suspicious, curious and much harder to fool. They wants to know whats in it for them ie. reward, and than they might consider doing it–emphasis on might consider. Therefore, when training a Cat, you will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Punishment does not work on a Cat. A Cat does not learn like a dog–no sharp vocal tones. This just upsets Cats, making them fearful and even aggressive. Your Cat will have a very different idea about what it should be doing and where it should be doing, so it is best to establish a routine as soon as you can with a new pet feline. Litter training is probably the most important. Do not rub the Kitten's nose in its mistakes as this tells the kitten to regard this spot as a permanent toilet! If you have trouble with your kitten using the kitty litter tray, try moving it around and keep it away from its feed and sleeping area. If you find a frequent "accident" area, move its food close by the spot. Use "cats normal behavior" to your advantage. Most Cats learn to keep doing things that you want them to do. Such as "asking" to be let out by meowing or going to the door, scratching at the door. Cats do not learn to NOT DO the things you do not want them to do, such as scratching furniture by withholding rewards. They do not make those connections. To train a Cat to not scratch the furniture, you must use gentle deterrents that are not directly associated with the owner. A squirt from a Water Pistol works wonders, shoots fairly far. Great for training Cats to stay off the table, cupboards, refrain from scratching furniture etc. They do put together the "bad action with the consequences of being hit with water. • 74. Evolution Of Cats Essay The house cat has been a favored companion for many years. Their small size and independent tendencies makes them ideal pets for those who do not want a high maintenance animal. They are quirky and show lots of love if you take care of them. Cats are complex animals, but can be great pets. They have their own way of doing things, but still can be a great companion. They have gone through a lot throughout the years, yet still have barely changed. Cats are interesting in their own ways, both their history and personalities. They also have cupped ears that can rotate to catch sound, which helps them to hunt (Foss, Stewart & Swift, 2008, p.10). Their tongues are covered in papillae to help scrape food off of bones or to clean itself (Foss, Stewart & Swift, 2008, p.10). Their fur coats protect them from cold, bug bites, stings, and other irritants, and can also be raised when frightened or threatened to seem larger in size (Foss, Stewart & Swift, 2008, p.10). Not easily seen are the sweat glands that cats only have on their paw pads (Foss, Stewart & Swift, 2008, p.11). Moving inward, cats have a very flexible spine, aiding them when falling to land on their feet or to help them get into small spaces (Foss, Stewart & Swift, 2008, p.12). Most cats can see ultraviolet light (Foss, Stewart & Swift, 2008, p.9). Evolution has favored night vision over being able to see colors during the day (Foss, Stewart & Swift, 2008, p.9). Another part of the cat's night vision is that at the back of the eye, there is a layer of cells that reflects the light (Foss, Stewart & Swift, 2008, p.9). • 76. Reflection Paper Of A Cat My husband, Brandon, had always been adamant about never getting a cat. For about the first decade of our marriage, I agreed. When we had kids, however, both of our children loved cats. Then one day our 4–year–old son, Pierce, told me that he wanted a cat, I told him that I had secretly been wanting one, too. We decided to start praying that God would send us a cat; the perfect cat for our family. For over a year we prayed for God to send us a cat. Then one day our son came to me and told me that God was not hearing our prayers. It broke my heart. My little freckled faced boy was losing faith in God. Why had God not just left us a cat right on our doorstep? If that happened, we would know that it was divine intervention and that the cat was meant to be ours! When I saw how disappointed my little boy was, I decided to take matters into my own hands. I finally told Brandon that Pierce and I had been praying for a cat. I told him that Pierce was beginning to question why God wasn't answering his prayers. So Brandon and I made a list of requirements that the cat would have to meet if we were ever going to get one. The list was long: the cat had to be female, an adult, have been spayed, up to date on vaccinations, she had to be free, and I preferred her to be black. Since statistics show that more black cats are killed in shelters than any other color cat, I thought I would surely be rescuing her from certain death. • 78. Cat Ammression : Cat Aggressions And Its Causes Cat Aggression Aggression in cats is not unnatural. In fact, it is a common feline behavior, which should not be taken lightly. While cat aggression may not be taken as seriously as dog aggression, maybe because they do not go chasing after people or other animals to bite them, an aggressive cat can inflict serious injury on a person or other animal. Unlike dogs, which just use their teeth to inflict harm, cats use their teeth and claws to inflict injury. An aggressive cat can cause painful lacerations that can become infected. Cats carry a lot of pathogenic bacteria that can cause serious infections. A bite from a cat that is carrying a bacterium called Pasteurella multocid can lead to a condition known as septicemia or blood poisoning, which is often characterized by flu–like symptoms. If the condition is not properly treated with the right medication, it can be fatal. People who are extremely vulnerable to getting serious infections through cat bites are the elderly, children and sickly people. Cats are also responsible for causing a condition known as cat scratch disease or cat fever in humans, which is accompanied by symptoms including fever, enlarged nymph nodes, chills and lethargy. Although the infection is not considered serious, there are different species of the bacteria that causes this condition, which can cause serious infections that can lead to serious health complications. Cats can also inflict harm on other cats especially during fights, which may cause ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
