Task 1: Case Study – Notes
Purpose: promotional tool (for director or artist), extension to income, extension of outlets
(e.g. music channel, websites), synergy (e.g. films, television programmes), producers’
strategies (e.g. major label, independent, artist self-produced)
Style: genre of music, content (such as live footage, digital animation) form (performance,
narrative, conceptual: interpretive, surrealist, pastiche, parody, references, homage)
Conventions: lyric interpretation,extending or consolidating song’s meaning,allusion,links
to other artists
Techniques: cutting to beat, effects, miming and lip sync, camera shots, camera
movements, camera angles, chroma key
Tip: Choose a video that inspires you in terms of the style and techniques used; this research will
help with ideas for creating your own music video.

Halsey, ‘Colors’ was published on February 25th
2016. It is an electropop genre which is a style of
music pop music that is characterised by the use of electronically made sounds which mainly uses
a synthesiser to record music that has a variety of electro sounds that are pre-recorded on a
synthesiser and may also use additional accessories to support the recording.
