REPRESENT PARTICULAR SOCIAL GROUPS?

2. The main stereotype based in our film is the typical teenage girl, irresponsible, daring and
uncontrollable. Chloe was our main character in the film and I and Holly were only in it briefly.
We all played a part in creating representations of irresponsible teenagers, myself and Holly
dared Chloe to go into a house, not thinking of the consequences, and Chloe was the one who
recklessly did what they said, not realising what she is getting herself into. Despise the fact
she is on her own, you can hear the two girls voice overs, daring her to do this, which is
common for teenagers because they always seem to follow the crowd as such, or do things
under peer pressure, just to fit in. Also, myself and Holly are seen briefly when we are having
a conversation, we also suit the typical teenager stereotype as were sitting in a bedroom,
talking and worrying about Chloe, not realising what she has gone to do.
On the other hand, our typical protagonist is a male, which is not shown in our opening as we
chose to leave an enigma. This is clearly typical as the villain is a lot of the time a strong male
who preys on young girls. We made it slightly obvious about it being a male because there
was no one in the house, no cars, or anything homely looking on the outside of the house, to
give the impression the persons house she is entering, lives alone. As well, a man playing the
protagonist fits the teen/slasher film genre, as it challenges the teenagers to their vulnerability.

3. I compared our opening to the film ‘Prom Night,’ I thought this was a good example as in this film we
see a young teenage girl, trying to find the person she can hear in her hotel room. This is typical as
she isn’t thinking properly, and feels as if she is strong enough to fight her own battles. They do have
some similarities between them, i.e. they’re both willing to be alone whilst doing something they
shouldn’t, and they’re not running away from the situation, which is what would be expected. The only
difference within the two is that in the film Prom Night she has no choice but to be alone, which is a
coincidence as she doesn’t fully know what is coming to her. In our opening, Chloe knows she is
alone, and chooses to go there by herself without her friends knowing, this is the daring side of her,
which a lot of teenage girls try to have.
