History Of The Revolver
The revolver was invented by Samuel Colt in Paterson, New Jersey, and was patented on
February 25, 1836. The revolver is a handgun featuring a rotating cylinder with multiple chambers to hold bullets. Before the invention of the revolver,
people used single–shot guns, like rifles and shotguns. Each time a bullet was shot, the shooter had to reload another bullet and then shoot again.
During the revolutionary war, soldiers used muskets, which are very inaccurate single–shot guns, extensively. Multi–barrel guns could shoot multiple
bullets at once, were heavy and cumbersome. Revolvers are lightweight, compact, and portable.
In addition to handguns, Colt made revolving rifles and shotguns. This made shooting and hunting easier for gun

Civil War Springfield Weapons
Rifles and Muskets
Springfield Model 1861: The Springfield Model 1861 was the most common weapon used during the Civil War. The Springfield's barrel was 40 inches
long, and fired a .58 caliber MiniГ© ball. The total weight of the rifle was approximately 9 pounds. Because of these features, it is able to use
percussion caps to fire at an effective range of 200 to 300 yards.
Colt Revolving Rifles: The Colt revolving rifles were some of the first repeating rifles produced by the Colt's Manufacturing Company. The revolving
action in these rifles were based upon the mechanism of already existing Colt revolvers like the Colt Dragoon. Ultimately, the Colt revolving rifle was
not favored by the troops because it had a bad tendency to discharge all of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Remington Model 1858 was their most popular revolver that they produced. This popular handgun consisted of a large–frame, single–action,
six–shot, .44 caliber percussion revolver, with an 8 inch barrel.
LeMat Revolver: The LeMat Revolver was perhaps the most well–known foreign–designed revolver during the Civil War. It was constructed of two
barrels, one on top of the other. The top barrel could fire up to nine .42 caliber balls while the bottom could fire a 16 gauge shotshell, making it a very
lethal weapon.
Elgin Pistol: The Elgin Pistol was first developed by the United States Navy in 1838. This gun was a .54 caliber, single–shot smoothbore, and was
equipped with an 11.5–inch Bowie knife blade and was the first percussion cap gun to be used in the navy. Sadly only 150 Elgin Pistols were
produced. Because of this, only a few were still in use during the US Civil War. Soon after, the Navy replaced them with the M1860 Cutlass, which
remained in service until the mid 1900s.
Whitney Revolver: The Whitney revolver was produced in 1857, this 36 caliber percussion revolver was the first to be produced with a solid frame.
Which meant that it was much sturdier than the traditional

Samuel Colt: The Most Important In American History

Samuel Colt Samuel Colt was a very important person, not just in American history, but world history also. Colt did much more than just make guns,
he invented many things and pioneered many of the practices and techniques modern businesses all over the world still use, but he is still remembered
today for his most famous invention, the revolver.
Samuel Colt was born on July 19, 1814 in Hartford, Connecticut to a businessman named Christopher Colt and a woman named Sarah Caldwell,
whose father was a major in the Revolutionary War . When Colt was six his mother died of tuberculosis, and by age eleven he was indentured. Colt
was indentured to a farmer who lived in Glastonbury and began attending school. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After this holdup, Colt began manufacturing cartridges made out of tin foil rather than common paper which was used at the time. The tin foil
cartridges proved to be more reliable than the paper cartridges because the foil prevented the powder inside from getting wet while water soaked right
through the paper. Soon Colt had a large contract with the United States government, providing hundreds of thousands of his new tin–foil cartridges.
With the money he receive from his cartridges, Colt reinvested his money into the telegraph industry he made the waterproof cable for, and
attempted to bring back the Patent Arms Manufacturing Company, but this failed. On January 4, 1847 Colt met with Texas Ranger Captain
Samuel Walker. Walker had previously used Colt's revolvers in the Seminole War in Florida, however he wanted Colt to make a few changes to it.
Walker wanted the handgun to be in a larger caliber, hold six rounds instead of five, and be quicker to reload. Colt teamed up with Eli Whitney
Blake, who was already recognized in the arms industry, and the two got to work and developed the Colt Walker, named after Captain Walker of the
Texas Rangers . Soon after, Colt was back in

Summary Of A Look Back: The Smith And Wesson Model
This week's article was on the "A Look Back: The Smith & Wesson Model 48". The idea of the Smith & Wesson Model 48 was developed from the
introduction of the .22 WMR or Winchester Magnum Rimfire. The .22WMR was developed by Olin/Winchester as an alterative to the .22 LR
cartridges, which dominated the rimfire market at the time. The .22WMR is said to have some "extra zing" to it. Ruger and Smith & Wesson had a
revolver available with the few month of the .22WMR being released, Savage had a revolver available in short time also, they always seemed to be
ready to spring into action when a new product hit the market. The Ruger and Savage offered a well–made revolver with less aesthetic enhancements.

Marvin pulls out his revolver and points it at Bob and fires the gun. Marvin did intentionally point the gun at Bob, and he could foresee the results.
2) Harmful and offensive: Bob did not get physically harmed but the plaintiff does not need to be harmed in order to be offended. Having a
revolver being pointed at you is considered to be offensive and firing a gun is harmful. Bob did get offended and the act of the defendant is
considering being harmful. 3) Touching: Marvin did not get a contact with Bob, meaning that the bullet did not hit Bob. Marvin missed Bob. 4) Of
another: Bob did get offended by Marvin. The act was not made by Bob. Marvin fired the gun at Bob. 5) Without Consent: Bob did not give the
defendant the permission to point a gun at him and then fire it. It is not stated in the facts that the plaintiff consented to the defendant to fire a gun
towards him. Conclusion: Bob cannot sue Marvin for Battery even though he got offended and Marvin's intent to hurt him. The bullet missed Marvin
therefore he was not touched or hurt. Cathy vs Marvin Battery: 1) Intent: Pulling out the revolver to shot was an intentional act of Marvin but he did
not intentionally strike Cathy. However, he could foresee the results of firing a shot; he knows that it is harmful. It was transfer intent. 2) Harmful or

Glock Informative Essay
Granted, the Glock has cemented its spot in the pantheon of the best weapons one can own. However, you want your Glock to give you just a little
more, you want to take something good and turn it into something great. The first upgrade you should consider is installing an L2D Combat Glock
Trigger. This is the fastest, most cost–effective improvement to be made, one you should have already made. You get custom results without the
custom expense. L2D Combat has designed a Glock match trigger that simply drops into your existing frame in minutes. The one shortcoming of an
out of the box Glock is the sloppy trigger, obviously, that limits your timing and accuracy. When you install an L2D Drop

Similarities Between Panpsychism And Dan Christensen's...
Looking around the world there are repeated patterns everywhere, and many people tend not to notice. Nature, both here on earth and in space,
seems to reuse these patterns over and over again. Is there a driving force behind everything, or is it just all one colossal coincidence? Science has
provided a theory that may favor the prior. There seems to a link between Panpsychism, and both the earthly and heavenly bodies of the universe. An
artist by the name of Dan Christensen often uses the same patterns in his paintings. Usually a giant dot in the center, and swirling loops. One example
of this is his piece, Revolver. The patterns he uses to paint we see examples of in, and outside of the world. The first point of interest worth noting

The Beatles 'Revolver': The Beatles
"Revolver" is an album created beautifully by a few of my favorite artists known as The Beatles. As you should know the 70's was the time that
"hippies" became a huge trend along with people starting to use acid a lot more, and I believe that The Beatles really stood out since their album
was gladly released on August 5th, 1966; that was with the help of all members from the band taking LSD. A member from the band took a crazy risk
for one single song, acid took on a negative and positive toll for all four of The Beatles, this is also the moment that Paul McCartney really came out
with his first solo and different instruments introduced The Beatles to new ways of playing songs; overall the band together was just having so much
fun making music magical to the ears of the groovy 70's folks, nothing was ever the same after their experience. ... Show more content on

Member of Manfred Mann, Klaus Voormann, designed the iconic cover for The Beatles thatJohn Lennon questions about during an interview with
Jann Wenner. "Revolver" their album cover title, does not refer to a gun it actually refers to a Ringo Starr pun coming to the conclusion that an
album revolves like the revolver gun. I really enjoy how open and triggered to stand out they are with their art, that's why I think the album is
beautiful. "Yellow Submarine" one of John Lennon's attempts to have his voice recorded underwater and have it in the song was one of the best things
that ever happened. After sugar cubes infused with LSD were secretly put into John Lennon's coffee by a dentist John Riley, John started hallucinating
and imagining a submarine. The drug made the group have disagreements and they went their separate ways for a while, but the drug also made a
special connection with all four when they got back

Firearm Evidence Process Paper
Processing firearms evidence is just one of many jobs in the field of forensic technology. When it comes to collecting and processing firearms
evidence at a crime scene there are a strict set of rules and procedures that need to be followed. There are also different types of firearms that can be
used in committing a crime and that can be found at crime scenes if the firearm is left behind.
The most common types of firearms that are used in crimes are semi–automatic pistols, and revolvers. There are different types of semi–auto pistols
and revolvers out there, which are but not limited to .38, .38 special, .44 magnum, .357 magnum, 9mm, walther ppk, colt peacemaker just to name a
few of the types of firearms that would likely be used in a crime. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Let us start on how to collect and process expended projectiles and cartridge casings. When collecting expended casings, projectiles and remnants of
shotgun ammunition each one should be numbered, photographed and measured for placement in a crime scene sketch (Tina Young, 2011). Each one
collected should be placed in a pillbox or coin envelope then those should be placed into bigger envelopes or bags (Tina Young, 2011). If aprojectile is
stuck in a wall the section of the wall where the projectile is located should be removed (Tina Young, 2011). If a firearm found at a crime scene the
best way to link it to the crime or other crimes is to test fire it into a water tank or ballistic gel. Once this has been done, the forensic tech can then
compare the bullet and casing using a microscope. (Tina Young, 2011). If the firearm is not located then the casing or bullet can be ran through the
National Ballistic Database. Now that we have talked about rendering firearms safe and also how they should be processed, now we can look at what
information can be gained from the firearm and the cartridges and

Matchlock Guns In The Nineteenth Century
15th century weapons.
Weapons developed in this century were primarily used for defense of a structure or infantry and cavalry. The first firearms were matchlock guns
developed in this century. Matchlock guns were fuse ignited and lit by a match. When the fuse burned down it ignited gun powder and fired
projectiles. Matchlock guns were widely used for up to a century before the Wheelock is invented.
16th – 17th century weapons.
The wheel lock gun is invented. Similar to the matchlock in every way, except its ignited by a mechanism that is set back and released forward when
the trigger is squeezed creating a spark. Though the wheel lock was more proficient, it was more expensive to produce than match lock guns. So
matchlock guns were still widely used during this century. The wheel lock guns invention was a progressive step in firearms.
Later in the 16th century the flintlock gun is developed. The flintlock solved several issues with the wheel lock gun. They created a lid for the powder
pan that would lift simultaneously with the drop of the flint lever to ignite the powder. Flint lock guns were the dominant gun for two centuries. Flint
lock muskets were used by the infantry in many war's, battles, and engagements throughout this 200 year period of time, to include the revolutionary
war.

Analysis Of O ' Neill 's The Emperor Jones
An examination of the symbols in O'Neill's The Emperor Jones–particularly the revolver, the Great Forest, and the tom–tom–show the emotional
instability of Brutus Jones when he is faced with fear and isolation. While traveling in the forest, Jones has a revolver on his hip that provides him
with a way to release his anger and fear while alone in the forest. He is isolated in the forest and his gun is his only protection. He uses it as a crutch
to scare off the different apparitions he encounters, but it ultimately causes him harm. When he first enters the forest, he comes across "black,
shapeless" figures known as Little Formless Fears (799; Scene 2). These figures represent Jones' fear. When he thinks he has lost his food, he is
overcome with "mournful foreboding" (799; Scene 2) and loses his confidence. Shortly after, he blames the woods for "tryin' to put somethin'
ovah" (800; Scene 2) on him. The Little Formless Fears "squirm upward toward him" causing Jones to leap "backward with a yell of terror" (800;
Scene 2). Jones tries to reason with himself, after firing off one of his bullets from his revolver, saying that the Little Formless Fears were "only
little animals" and that the "shot fix 'em" (800; Scene 2). As his journey progresses, so do his fears. Each time he encounters something that scares
him, he turns to his revolver. When he sees Jeff, he "jerks out his revolver in a frenzy of terrified rage" and "fires" (801; Scene 3). The next time he
wields his revolver

In "The Revolver" by Emilia Pardo Bazan, the ill woman was abused by her husband Reinaldo and Frederick Douglass describes his abuse in his

manipulation and threats. The woman in "The Revolver" was psychological and emotionally abused by her husband Reinaldo. Reinaldo and the
woman had a significant age difference, he 40 and she 19, which lead to the abuse. Reinaldo was an insecure and jealous man and used abuse to cope.

The laws of the United States at the time stated that the children would hold the status of their mother and that slave parents didn't own their
children. This meant that a slave woman would give birth to children that would become slaves to the mother's owners and the mother couldn't
control what happened to the child in the future. Those laws enforced an emotional abuse in which the slave owner could threaten to separate
families if slaves were to try to do something such as escape. To prevent slaves from gaining power through access of books, it was illegal to teach
slaves how to read or write. This stems from the belief that Mr. Auld sums up as "It would forever unfit him to be a slave. He would at once
become unmanageable, and of no value to his master...It would make him discontented and unhappy" (Douglass 531 par 3). Reading and writing
would lead to slaves becoming unhappy in their situations because they would learn about other opportunities of work that would be more
beneficially such as being able to be paid. Slaves would be able to learn of laws that they could challenge in court and try to declare them as
unconstitutional. Slaves were unable to be present in court. There were many slaves that witnessed slave owners raping and killing slaves but
because they had no power in court, they could do nothing about it. Reading and writing could potentially lead to them gaining power in court and
ultimately lead to many slave owners being jailed for rape and/or murder. Slaves were considered property and consistently reminded of their status
through a variety of ways. One was when property had to valued when someone passed away. Douglass' master Captain Anthony passed away when
Douglass was in another household and the property had to be valued because Anthony didn't have a will. Douglass had

Descriptive Essay About My Brother
My brother is still like a mountain, standing at six foot five and ripped; if you push he doesn't move. That's OK though because I always visioned
him being bigger than me anyway. He is indeed the biggest role model, literally and figuratively, in my life. It is through him that I have become
who I am today: an adept game player, a skilled hunter, and a kind individual. Like when all my siblings lived at home my brother and I had to
share a room. Because he was older than me he was able to stay up later, so when I suppose to go to bed I would watch him play video games, and
get mad at the mistakes he makes for a few hours. That is how I learned to play video games with his long fingers/thumbs moving so fast on the
controls, and when I got older we started to play two player games. Even though he is three hours away we still play to this day I go on my
playstation, and he does the same then we play online with each other for hours with my microphone in so i can talk to him. Or when he comes up
for the weekend he brings his playstation home and we play in the same room. We have a setup where he lays on my bed and plays on a tv, and i sit
in my chair and play. Then I remember when I was about 8 years old when my parents were not home when we shot his shotgun at water jugs. He
would have the shotgun tucked in between his left shoulder and chest to support the gun and with his feet two feet apart and left foot a little farther
forward than the other before he shot. Then we got

So the raft drifted away from the mine so when Colt set off the mine it blew mud and water all over the viewers. This did not make the men happy.
Three of the men came over and Colt was about to be thrown into the river when a young man by the name of Elisha K. Root came and stopped
them. This man would later help Colt by designing most of the different machines that would make revolvers (Peterson 209). "In 1836 Samuel Colt
was granted a U.S. patent for a cap–and–ball pistol with a revolving cylinder that could fire five or six shots before reloading" (Silva). After finally
getting the patent, Colt bought a large tract of land about two hundred acres in Hartford Connecticut where he built a giant new factory where he
started producing many revolvers. Colt made three different models of his revolvers and he also made carbines, rifles, and shotguns. Colt's
revolvers became big. The Connecticut River was next to Colt's land and would flood that land every spring. So Colt hired hundreds of laborers to
work on building a dyke to keep it from flooding. The dyke was one of the biggest in America at a mile and three quarters long. Colt's dyke was
completed in 1854 (Haven). The United States was the first nation to give its troops a revolver. Colt's revolvers were used in the Mexican war. After the
massacre at the Alamo, the Texas Rangers, with Colt revolvers in hands charged the Mexicans "shouting remember the Alamo".(Silva

Clarkson Lumber Company Experienced Significant Sales Growth
From 1993 through 1995, Clarkson Lumber Company experienced significant sales growth – 19.0% from 1993 to 1994 and 30.0% between 1994 and
1995. Profitability also increased, but not nearly at the same pace as sales revenue. Net income rose from $60,000 in 1993 to $68,000 in 1994 (a
13.3% increase), to $77,000 in 1995 (13.2% increase). This increase in sales and profitability demanded growth in working capital and fixed assets
to finance the growth, creating a need for cash that outpaced free cash flow into the firm. Furthermore, Mr. Clarkson's buyout payments to Mr. Holtz
in 1995 and 1996 only added to the liquidity predicament. Thus, Clarkson was compelled to draw upon his line of credit with Suburban National
Bank and begin relying heavily on trade credit, quickly maxing out his bank credit line by the end of 1995.
The financial strength of Clarkson Lumber has deteriorated between 1993 and 1995. Clarkson had a free cash flow to the firm of +$2,000 in 1994,
but that dropped to –$159,000 for 1995. EBITDA increased over the period, but not matching the pace of net debt increases; Clarkson's leverage (Net
Debt / EBITDA) was 1.21 in 1993, increasing to 2.31 and 2.95 in 1994 and 1995, respectively. First quarter 1996 statements annualized over the
entire year projected leverage to increase to 4.94 by the end of 1996, assuming no credit line cap and no other changes.
The trade discount of 2% provides a very attractive opportunity for Clarkson Lumber to dramatically increase

Characteristics Of Gun Shootings
When conducting an investigation for a homicide due to a handgun it is important that investigators and firearms technicians have an understanding on
how a handgun is manufactured, what is a bore, rifling patterns and their purpose, and caliber. Class and individual characteristics are present in
handguns, projectiles and shell casings. Every handgun contains general rifling characteristics based on the number and width of grooves, as well as
the direction of grooves. After a handgun is fired it can present with penetrating and perforating gunshot wounds, which have specific entry and exit
characteristics. The muzzle–to–distance characteristics vary depending on how close or distant the shooter was from the victim or surface. Finally, at a
crime scene an investigator must gather evidence at a death scene. When a handgun is used the investigator should document class characteristics of a
firearm, bullet or shell casing. Also, the handgun or ammunition should be dusted for fingerprint and DNA evidence.
Early handguns of the 14th century were made of a bronze tube or wrought iron, packed with gun powder and a projectile then ignited through a
touch–hole. These early guns were wildly inaccurate and often failed. By 1835, Samuel Colt patented the first revolving cylinder and chamber
handgun, which was later mass produced as a weapon of choice by military personnel. The automatic pistol arrived in the late twentieth century. Today,
modern firearms come in a variety of

Samuel Colt Argumentative Essay
Introduction In 1836, Samuel Colt introduced his Colt Pearson revolver to the world. This moment changed the course of history and made a legend
of both the man and his product. Though the invention of the revolver did have an enormous impact on society, was it for the better? Did it bring
peace as the name one model suggests, the Colt Peacemaker, or did it bring death and destruction? It is a difficult task to look back on the impact of
an invention and determine whether or not society would have been better off without it. The revolver can be considered as being both a tool of
protection and an efficient dealer of death. It has a storied history that, good or bad, is legendary. The Innovation That Made the West There were two
innovations Samuel Colt introduced to the weapons manufacturing industry that changed the world. The first was the revolving cylinder. Prior to Sam
Colt, the only pistols with the capability to fire multiple rounds without reloading had to have multiple barrels and... Show more content on

Thus making it not only widely available, but also relatively inexpensive. These facts made for a very dangerous combination in a vast landscape
with few lawmen. The Wild West, as it was called became a lawless place, a place where a small gang of men could rob banks, stagecoaches, and
trains with impunity. One example of such outlawry can be seen in the legendary exploits of Jesse James and the James–Younger Gang. Jesse and his
gang had terrorized the people of Missouri and the southwest for sixteen years before he was finally gunned down by a fellow gang member in
1882. He is credited with having robbed eleven banks, seven trains, three stagecoaches, one county fair payroll messenger, and the murder of sixteen
people [Neosho Daily News, 1979]. Jesse's weapon of choice in the committing of these crime's was his trustee pair of Colt .45 peacemakers

Super Redhawk Case Study
Had enough 10mm? Ruger though not. But the New Hampshire gunmaker continues to take a different spin in building an arsenal for the hottest old
pistol round on the market today.
It's another wheelgun! But unlike its first 10mm offering from last fall, the Super Redhawk, it has the potential of appealing to a greater swath of the
revolver–shooting public. The GP100 Match Champion is the decked out iteration of the company's popular double–action revolver line. And should
provide a rather versatile platform to launch Col. Jeff Cooper's snappy and resurgent round. If anything, it gives 10mm fans a carry and competition
option if they have a yen for cylinders over magazines.

Basics Firearm: Basic Parts Of A Gun
This week's article was on "Basics Firearm: Basic Parts of a Gun". The article was very basic in its context, which covers the basic parts of rifles,
shotguns, pistols and revolvers. The article gives a very basic definition of the parts and does give a visual with parts labeled on the pictures. The
common parts between all of the firearms are trigger, trigger guard, front sight, safety, muzzle and barrel. From there each of the firearms have different
components, which make up the firearm. For example the rifle has a receiver, bolt, rear and front sight, stock, trigger, safety, trigger guard, barrel, and in
some cases a magazine. A shotgun is different from a rifle in a few aspects one is the barrel is smooth bored and may consist of an

38 Special History
So, what's so special about the .38 Special? Well, for starters, it saved my life when I was about 13. It helped me prevent a robber from coming into
my home after school. Originally the .38 Special, designed by Smith & Wesson in 1898 was based on the .38 Long Colt. After failing in the
Spanish–American War and a change in production, the .38 Special was born.
The .38 Special, became the new standard for police and military from about the 1920's. This cartridge was commonly used by soldiers in both World
Wars and my great uncle's service issued .38 Special can still be used today. The .38 Special is known globally for it's; reasonable recoil, accuracy and
popularity. It's popular for; target shooting, target competition, defense, and for hunting. Although, commonly found in revolvers, it is used in some
semi–automatic pistols.
Using the same diameter, adding to the projectile's weight and increasing the grains of powder; Smith & Wesson designed a new cartridge instead of
chambering the new revolver. This resulted in a round with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This would aid the shooter greatly in shooting competitions. The .38 Super is, essentially, the same diameter as a 9mm, but has a larger case with
more powder. Due to the additional powder, it will produce a higher velocity. The .38 Super over–all performance will show; good accuracy, flatter
trajectories, higher velocities and better recoil management. When handloading the .38 Super, just like any other caliber you must take precautions.
The handloader should always slowly work up a load and monitor the; magazine, weapon and casings. My choice for handloading would begin with
either C.C.I or Winchester primers. When choosing cases for loading I, would recommend the Starline company. Their casings are; excellent,
pre–trimmed, sized, very affordable and ready to load on arrival. When choosing projectiles, I, would recommend Hornady's

Samuel Colt Research Paper
Samuel Colt's Revolving Chamber Samuel Colt's development of the revolving pistol had a rough start. However, after the Colt Walker got its chance
during the Mexican–American War it proved to be a handy side arm in giving America the upper hand. The Mexican army had outdated weaponry and
could not upgrade as they would have to wait for the shipment to be imported from overseas. The new concept of a revolving multishot firearm has
influenced our military and police force. Since 1847 when Colt got its start, it has been with the american people up to today. In 1895, Theodore
Roosevelt, the President of the Board of Commissioners with the NYPD, ordered 4,500 Colt New Police revolvers to be the standard pistol for police
officers. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Mexican–American war was where the Colt revolver really showed what it's got. The Texas rangers ordered 1,000 Colt Walkers to use in the
war. Since the revolving chamber was a new addition to the handgun category it really came in handy with close quarter combat. The mexican army
still had outdated weaponry. The Mexican army would have to wait for guns to be imported overseas so that was no option. With their armory out of
date and the Americans equipped with revolving chamber America obviously had the upper hand. The colt has helped us win wars, it has shaped our
police force, has it done anything else for us? Yes, it has been quoted as "Thegun with won the west". When you think of the early west you probably
think of the old shoot outs. They have been shown in movies to be pretty cool, but what if the ranger missed the bandit? Without the Colt revolver he
would have to put the gunpowder into the chamber and loaded in the bullet. A lot less interesting, however the revolver could fire and kill someone in
no time. The colt peacemaker helped the rangers defend their towns from outlaws. One of the most famous shootouts in the history of the west was
Tombstone Arizona. There were 30 shots fired in 30 seconds, the speed was due to the revolving

usually deadly. There are so many different types of these weapons, it's hard to count. Some of these weapons include shotguns, bayonets, mortars, and
knives. The United States itself has many types of weapons, from handguns and machine guns to grenades and mortars. One of the handguns used
during WWI by the United States was the M1917 Revolver. The production of this revolver started in 1917 and spanned into 1920, and it remained in
service until 1954. The barrel if the gun was a standard 5.5 inches while the revolver had an overall length of 10.8 inches. (Colt Model 1917) There ...

ideas, it weighed thirty–five pounds. Along with being the first gas–operated machine gun, it was the first machine gun adopted by the United States
military. Colt ceased production of the gun in 1916 after it became obsolete when the US entered World War I. Before entering the war the gun was
used for training in the United States. (M1895 Colt–Browning) There were also hand grenades involved in WWI. One in particular was the MK–2
defensive hand grenade. This grenade was introduced in 1918 to replace the failed MK–1. The MK–2 was a time–fused grenade that was filled with
TNT or EC blank fire powder. Its pineapple shape made it easier to throw by giving the thrower a better grip. It was appropriately given the nickname
of the "iron pineapple". This grenade weighed a total of 1 pound and 5 ounces, with the filling only weighing 2 ounces. The rest of its weight came

The Legend of Samuel Colt
Who was Samuel Colt? He was a legendary inventor from Hartford, Connecticut that helped revolutionize the way the world produced firearms.
Colt was born to a family of farmers, his father Christopher Colt was a farmer, however he later stopped farming and became a business man.
Meanwhile Colt's mother Sarah Colt passed when he was just six years old. His father remarried two years later and overall there would be six siblings
in the Colt family. Despite being part of a big family Samuel Colt was destined to become successful and stand out above his other siblings. Colt
began to engineer when he was very young. This was because his father had a silk mill factory in Massachusetts. His father Christopher trained ... Show

Because of Colt's inventions and his company's contributions to the Nation the Union Army managed to have advanced revolvers during the war.
Overall "Its output for the entire Civil War period totaled 378,000 revolvers and 114,000 muskets" (Grant, 1982). The role that his company played in
producing firearms for the Union Army placed Colt as a historic figure in American history. Today Samuel Colt is looked at as the man who
revolutionized the firearm industry and the man who created the first mass producing firearms company in the world. He was recently honored in 2006
as he was inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame.
With manufacturing moving overseas in the past several decades and America currently having a trade deficit it would be difficult for Hartford to
redevelop itself as one of the most important manufacturing cities in America. On the contrary, Hartford can use its past to place itself as one of the
most important manufacturing cities in America. For instance, it can argue the fact that Colt came up with the idea of mass production and started
running his business out of Hartford, that it was the city of Hartford who was the first to place itself as an industrial city in America. As the United
States also faces challenges in regaining some of its success in the past back in manufacturing, it must end the habit of companies shipping all of the
manufacturing jobs overseas and restore the

The Use Of Symbols In Liam OFaherty's Civil War
Across history, civil wars have poisoned the bonds that keep families together. To choose a side meant to choose whether to stand with one's friends
and family, or an opposing opinion. In Ireland, the civil war in 1922 forced communities to decide between being a republican or a free–state. Brother
fought against brother, friend against friend. Liam O'Flaherty's use of symbolism, setting, and unexpected ending establish the idea that civil war causes
damage to the family as a basic unit of society.
O'Flaherty uses the sniper's revolver to symbolize the sniper's remorse for his frenzied actions in battle. After he kills his opponent, he looked at "the
smoking revolver in his hand, and with an oath he hurled it to the roof at his feet" (O'Flaherty 3). By throwing the revolver, he signifies ridding
himself of the "lust of battle" (O'Flaherty 3) The revolver represents the impulsive and destructive nature of battle. O'Flaherty also wrote "His teeth
chattered, he began to gibber to himself, cursing the war, cursing himself, cursing everybody" (O'Flaherty 3) This excerpt furthers the claim that the
sniper repents his actions during battle, and that after the high of combat, his conscious realized the impact of what he had done. Through the use of
the revolver as a symbolic object, O'Flaherty portrays the sniper as sickened by his own actions toward the other sniper, who was his brother. Any rash
decision can affect someone's entire life more than they can predict. By choosing

Samuel Colton Invented The First Rotating Barrel Revolver
Samuel Colton invented the first rotating barrel revolver, later called Peacemaker, in 1835. He then started mass–producing it and supplying it to the
armed forces as well as the common people, who benefited greatly from its reliability, portability and quick firing rate. This gun was the one used by
the legendary cowboys and was the one with which they gained enormous amounts of glory. Ever since then, the Peacemaker has shaped American
history in numerous ways and came to embody all the values like individualism, freedom and power that America stood for. The Colt revolvers, later
called the Peacemakers, that were invented in the 19th century shaped American history not only by giving the U.S. armed forces and the Union army
the upper hand and the power to subdue their enemies in monumental battles, but also by instilling in the people a strong sense of individualism and the
mentality of the manifest destiny. To begin with, before the 1830s, the only guns that were available to the public and themilitary were the muskets and
rifles, and primitive pistols. The muskets and rifles were very large in size, took a long amount of time to reload and were difficult to aim. Even
though they might have been effective when used in large numbers at the frontline of the battlefields due to the heavy concentration of bullets they
produced and since great accuracy was not required, they were not as practical or useful to the general public as their slow reload time and difficulty to

The Rifle Into The Federal Army
With a new century, came new advancements in technology, and weaponry. Muskets used in the American Revolutionary War were outdated and
inaccurate when it came to the Civil War. The introduction of the rifle into the Federal Army put the Northern Army leagues ahead of the Southern
Army at the battlefield. Because of the highly industrial based economy in the North, the usage of rifled bore firearms became widespread in the
Federal Army. Moreover, rifles also saw improvements in loading efficiency, changing the main method of loading to breech loading. Breech loading a
rifle, when compared to the archaic method of ramming the bullet down the barrel or muzzle loading, greatly reduced the chance of injury caused by
the rifle. In ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This allowed the cylinder of the pistol to spin freely while in half cock, enabling the soldier/wielder to easily reload whenever he/she felt necessary.
With such numerous advantages over the flintlock pistols , the Colt Revolver essentially revolutionized the way weapons were created and their
mechanisms. In the current day, most firearms operate with a magazine which holds the bullets that are to be fired from the weapon. Similarly, in the
Colt Revolver, there was a cylinder containing the bullets that were to be shot from the Revolver thereby maximizing the efficiency of weapons.
In addition to advancements in smaller firearms, the US military also saw improvements in the sector of long range rifles. Muzzle loading muskets
from the Revolutionary War were highly inefficient and and extremely dangerous to use. When on the battlefield, trying to load a muzzle loading
musket became very complicated. If the soldier loaded a bullet but it got jammed, and they tried to fire, the musket would explode in their face,
causing many unnecessary injuries to the soldier force (National Park Service, "Evolution of the Breechloader"). With the invention of the breech
loader, loading a rifle became exceedingly simple. In a breech loading rifle, the soldier loads a cartridge containing the bullet and the gunpowder into a
chamber. They would then proceed to fire the weapon. This method of loading a weapon was

Semiautomatic Firearms
A Gun Is A Gun Is A Gun Right?
You have seen the articles, the top 20 firearms all Preppers need, or the five best self defense handguns, or here is a list of the best rifles or shotguns

It is not the firearm, but the person using it, and then the reason that person wants a firearm that is the deciding factor. Let's face it; any firearm that
can put a round downrange is better than throwing a lamp at someone. Do you know how to decide?
From a purely mechanical and technological standpoint, today's semiautomatic pistols are superior. Not too long ago if someone mentioned handguns

There is a reason however, why most militaries around the world carry semiautomatic pistols and not revolvers and many in law enforcement carry
them as well.
Keep in mind some semiautomatics are Double Action (DA) and Single Action (SA). Once a round is chambered from the slide action, the hammer is
back. From this point you can de–cock it to make it double action or leave the hammer back for single action. After the first round subsequent shots
are of course single action, because the slide is forced back to eject a shell cocking the firearm each time.
The revolver is not going anywhere, because people grew up with them, it may have been for many their first handgun that was handed down. They
do have advantages over semiautomatics and there are disadvantages as well. You do not have to choose, because you can have both as long as you
become proficient in their use. You do have to consider who will be using the weapon and who may have access to the weapon as

Peter Christopher
Questions about The Shooting of Peter Christopher Yajie Cao (Jay) 1.In this circumstance, Tony is not allowed to use force to protect his property. As
Prosser on Torts, Third Edition, pages 116–118, states: "The law has always placed a higher value upon human safety than upon mere rights in
property. It is the accepted rule that there is no privilege to use any force calculated to cause death or serious bodily injury to repel the threat to land
or chattels, unless there is also such a threat to justify a self–defense. Spring guns and other man–killing devices are not justifiable against a mere
trespasser, or even a petty thief" (Hodge S., 2014, p. 21). So it is illegal for Tony to shoot Peter in this circumstance because Peter only threatened his
property ––– the car rather than his human safety. 2.Tony didn't use a reasonable degree of force under the circumstances. As the answer from the first
question goes, it is illegal for Tony to shoot Peter in this circumstance because Tony intentionally caused body damage to Peter with his service
revolver which is man–killing device. Under the circumstance, in my opinion, Tony can protect the evidence of the scene and call the police as soon
as the theft going on. Or he can warn Peter to leave because police will come here soon. If he goes on stealing, the police will arrest him and throw
him in jail. 3.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It doesn't matter that Tony warned Peter before he shot him. The fact is that Tony caused human damage to Peter with a man
–killing device. The worst
thing is that he had known the service revolver would seriously threaten Peter's human safety. In other words, he was intentional rather than neglectful.
So he should bear criminal responsibility. Even though he warned Peter, he couldn't threaten Peter's safety and cause serious body damage. The only
circumstance which can allow him to shoot Peter is that Peter seriously threaten his human safety instead of property. It can't be the excuse that Tony
warned Peter

History Of The Revolver

  • 1. History Of The Revolver The revolver was invented by Samuel Colt in Paterson, New Jersey, and was patented on February 25, 1836. The revolver is a handgun featuring a rotating cylinder with multiple chambers to hold bullets. Before the invention of the revolver, people used single–shot guns, like rifles and shotguns. Each time a bullet was shot, the shooter had to reload another bullet and then shoot again. During the revolutionary war, soldiers used muskets, which are very inaccurate single–shot guns, extensively. Multi–barrel guns could shoot multiple bullets at once, were heavy and cumbersome. Revolvers are lightweight, compact, and portable. In addition to handguns, Colt made revolving rifles and shotguns. This made shooting and hunting easier for gun ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Civil War Springfield Weapons Rifles and Muskets Springfield Model 1861: The Springfield Model 1861 was the most common weapon used during the Civil War. The Springfield's barrel was 40 inches long, and fired a .58 caliber MiniГ© ball. The total weight of the rifle was approximately 9 pounds. Because of these features, it is able to use percussion caps to fire at an effective range of 200 to 300 yards. Colt Revolving Rifles: The Colt revolving rifles were some of the first repeating rifles produced by the Colt's Manufacturing Company. The revolving action in these rifles were based upon the mechanism of already existing Colt revolvers like the Colt Dragoon. Ultimately, the Colt revolving rifle was not favored by the troops because it had a bad tendency to discharge all of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Remington Model 1858 was their most popular revolver that they produced. This popular handgun consisted of a large–frame, single–action, six–shot, .44 caliber percussion revolver, with an 8 inch barrel. LeMat Revolver: The LeMat Revolver was perhaps the most well–known foreign–designed revolver during the Civil War. It was constructed of two barrels, one on top of the other. The top barrel could fire up to nine .42 caliber balls while the bottom could fire a 16 gauge shotshell, making it a very lethal weapon. Elgin Pistol: The Elgin Pistol was first developed by the United States Navy in 1838. This gun was a .54 caliber, single–shot smoothbore, and was equipped with an 11.5–inch Bowie knife blade and was the first percussion cap gun to be used in the navy. Sadly only 150 Elgin Pistols were produced. Because of this, only a few were still in use during the US Civil War. Soon after, the Navy replaced them with the M1860 Cutlass, which remained in service until the mid 1900s. Whitney Revolver: The Whitney revolver was produced in 1857, this 36 caliber percussion revolver was the first to be produced with a solid frame. Which meant that it was much sturdier than the traditional ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Samuel Colt: The Most Important In American History Timothy Philips 1301 Lewellen 8/12/15 Samuel Colt Samuel Colt was a very important person, not just in American history, but world history also. Colt did much more than just make guns, he invented many things and pioneered many of the practices and techniques modern businesses all over the world still use, but he is still remembered today for his most famous invention, the revolver. Samuel Colt was born on July 19, 1814 in Hartford, Connecticut to a businessman named Christopher Colt and a woman named Sarah Caldwell, whose father was a major in the Revolutionary War . When Colt was six his mother died of tuberculosis, and by age eleven he was indentured. Colt was indentured to a farmer who lived in Glastonbury and began attending school. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After this holdup, Colt began manufacturing cartridges made out of tin foil rather than common paper which was used at the time. The tin foil cartridges proved to be more reliable than the paper cartridges because the foil prevented the powder inside from getting wet while water soaked right through the paper. Soon Colt had a large contract with the United States government, providing hundreds of thousands of his new tin–foil cartridges. With the money he receive from his cartridges, Colt reinvested his money into the telegraph industry he made the waterproof cable for, and attempted to bring back the Patent Arms Manufacturing Company, but this failed. On January 4, 1847 Colt met with Texas Ranger Captain Samuel Walker. Walker had previously used Colt's revolvers in the Seminole War in Florida, however he wanted Colt to make a few changes to it. Walker wanted the handgun to be in a larger caliber, hold six rounds instead of five, and be quicker to reload. Colt teamed up with Eli Whitney Blake, who was already recognized in the arms industry, and the two got to work and developed the Colt Walker, named after Captain Walker of the Texas Rangers . • 4. Summary Of A Look Back: The Smith And Wesson Model This week's article was on the "A Look Back: The Smith & Wesson Model 48". The idea of the Smith & Wesson Model 48 was developed from the introduction of the .22 WMR or Winchester Magnum Rimfire. The .22WMR was developed by Olin/Winchester as an alterative to the .22 LR cartridges, which dominated the rimfire market at the time. The .22WMR is said to have some "extra zing" to it. Ruger and Smith & Wesson had a revolver available with the few month of the .22WMR being released, Savage had a revolver available in short time also, they always seemed to be ready to spring into action when a new product hit the market. However, you want your Glock to give you just a little more, you want to take something good and turn it into something great. The first upgrade you should consider is installing an L2D Combat Glock Trigger. This is the fastest, most cost–effective improvement to be made, one you should have already made. You get custom results without the custom expense. L2D Combat has designed a Glock match trigger that simply drops into your existing frame in minutes. The one shortcoming of an out of the box Glock is the sloppy trigger, obviously, that limits your timing and accuracy. • 7. Similarities Between Panpsychism And Dan Christensen's... Looking around the world there are repeated patterns everywhere, and many people tend not to notice. Nature, both here on earth and in space, seems to reuse these patterns over and over again. Is there a driving force behind everything, or is it just all one colossal coincidence? Science has provided a theory that may favor the prior. There seems to a link between Panpsychism, and both the earthly and heavenly bodies of the universe. An artist by the name of Dan Christensen often uses the same patterns in his paintings. Usually a giant dot in the center, and swirling loops. One example of this is his piece, Revolver. The patterns he uses to paint we see examples of in, and outside of the world. The first point of interest worth noting ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. The Beatles 'Revolver': The Beatles "Revolver" is an album created beautifully by a few of my favorite artists known as The Beatles. As you should know the 70's was the time that "hippies" became a huge trend along with people starting to use acid a lot more, and I believe that The Beatles really stood out since their album was gladly released on August 5th, 1966; that was with the help of all members from the band taking LSD. A member from the band took a crazy risk for one single song, acid took on a negative and positive toll for all four of The Beatles, this is also the moment that Paul McCartney really came out with his first solo and different instruments introduced The Beatles to new ways of playing songs; overall the band together was just having so much fun making music magical to the ears of the groovy 70's folks, nothing was ever the same after their experience. ... "Revolver" their album cover title, does not refer to a gun it actually refers to a Ringo Starr pun coming to the conclusion that an album revolves like the revolver gun. I really enjoy how open and triggered to stand out they are with their art, that's why I think the album is beautiful. "Yellow Submarine" one of John Lennon's attempts to have his voice recorded underwater and have it in the song was one of the best things that ever happened. After sugar cubes infused with LSD were secretly put into John Lennon's coffee by a dentist John Riley, John started hallucinating and imagining a submarine. When collecting expended casings, projectiles and remnants of shotgun ammunition each one should be numbered, photographed and measured for placement in a crime scene sketch (Tina Young, 2011). Each one collected should be placed in a pillbox or coin envelope then those should be placed into bigger envelopes or bags (Tina Young, 2011). If aprojectile is stuck in a wall the section of the wall where the projectile is located should be removed (Tina Young, 2011). If a firearm found at a crime scene the best way to link it to the crime or other crimes is to test fire it into a water tank or ballistic gel. Once this has been done, the forensic tech can then compare the bullet and casing using a microscope. (Tina Young, 2011). If the firearm is not located then the casing or bullet can be ran through the National Ballistic Database. • 13. Analysis Of O ' Neill 's The Emperor Jones An examination of the symbols in O'Neill's The Emperor Jones–particularly the revolver, the Great Forest, and the tom–tom–show the emotional instability of Brutus Jones when he is faced with fear and isolation. While traveling in the forest, Jones has a revolver on his hip that provides him with a way to release his anger and fear while alone in the forest. He is isolated in the forest and his gun is his only protection. He uses it as a crutch to scare off the different apparitions he encounters, but it ultimately causes him harm. When he first enters the forest, he comes across "black, shapeless" figures known as Little Formless Fears (799; Scene 2). These figures represent Jones' fear. When he thinks he has lost his food, he is overcome with "mournful foreboding" (799; Scene 2) and loses his confidence. Shortly after, he blames the woods for "tryin' to put somethin' ovah" (800; Scene 2) on him. The Little Formless Fears "squirm upward toward him" causing Jones to leap "backward with a yell of terror" (800; Scene 2). Jones tries to reason with himself, after firing off one of his bullets from his revolver, saying that the Little Formless Fears were "only little animals" and that the "shot fix 'em" (800; Scene 2). As his journey progresses, so do his fears. Each time he encounters something that scares him, he turns to his revolver. When he sees Jeff, he "jerks out his revolver in a frenzy of terrified rage" and "fires" (801; Scene 3). The next time he wields his revolver ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Reinaldo and the slave–owners psychologically and emotionally kept control of others through a variety of tactics of manipulation and threats. The woman in "The Revolver" was psychological and emotionally abused by her husband Reinaldo. Reinaldo and the woman had a significant age difference, he 40 and she 19, which lead to the abuse. The laws of the United States at the time stated that the children would hold the status of their mother and that slave parents didn't own their children. This meant that a slave woman would give birth to children that would become slaves to the mother's owners and the mother couldn't control what happened to the child in the future. Those laws enforced an emotional abuse in which the slave owner could threaten to separate families if slaves were to try to do something such as escape. To prevent slaves from gaining power through access of books, it was illegal to teach slaves how to read or write. This stems from the belief that Mr. Auld sums up as "It would forever unfit him to be a slave. He would at once become unmanageable, and of no value to his master...It would make him discontented and unhappy" (Douglass 531 par 3). Reading and writing would lead to slaves becoming unhappy in their situations because they would learn about other opportunities of work that would be more beneficially such as being able to be paid. Slaves would be able to learn of laws that they could challenge in court and try to declare them as unconstitutional. Slaves were unable to be present in court. There were many slaves that witnessed slave owners raping and killing slaves but because they had no power in court, they could do nothing about it. Reading and writing could potentially lead to them gaining power in court and ultimately lead to many slave owners being jailed for rape and/or murder. Slaves were considered property and consistently reminded of their status through a variety of ways. One was when property had to valued when someone passed away. Douglass' master Captain Anthony passed away when Douglass was in another household and the property had to be valued because Anthony didn't have a will. Douglass had ... • 15. Descriptive Essay About My Brother My brother is still like a mountain, standing at six foot five and ripped; if you push he doesn't move. That's OK though because I always visioned him being bigger than me anyway. He is indeed the biggest role model, literally and figuratively, in my life. It is through him that I have become who I am today: an adept game player, a skilled hunter, and a kind individual. Like when all my siblings lived at home my brother and I had to share a room. Because he was older than me he was able to stay up later, so when I suppose to go to bed I would watch him play video games, and get mad at the mistakes he makes for a few hours. This did not make the men happy. Three of the men came over and Colt was about to be thrown into the river when a young man by the name of Elisha K. Root came and stopped them. This man would later help Colt by designing most of the different machines that would make revolvers (Peterson 209). "In 1836 Samuel Colt was granted a U.S. patent for a cap–and–ball pistol with a revolving cylinder that could fire five or six shots before reloading" (Silva). After finally getting the patent, Colt bought a large tract of land about two hundred acres in Hartford Connecticut where he built a giant new factory where he started producing many revolvers. Colt made three different models of his revolvers and he also made carbines, rifles, and shotguns. Colt's revolvers became big. The Connecticut River was next to Colt's land and would flood that land every spring. So Colt hired hundreds of laborers to work on building a dyke to keep it from flooding. The dyke was one of the biggest in America at a mile and three quarters long. Colt's dyke was completed in 1854 (Haven). The United States was the first nation to give its troops a revolver. Colt's revolvers were used in the Mexican war. After the massacre at the Alamo, the Texas Rangers, with Colt revolvers in hands charged the Mexicans "shouting remember the Alamo".(Silva ... The Nukes dropped in California first, and then Boston leaving the rest of America in fear and wanting to evacuate as soon as they could. Jade and I ran for our lives to our neighbor's house where they had a bunker that they said they'd let us use in case of an emergency. As I unlocked the locks I started to get cold feet. In my head, I was trying to tell myself " it's just a peek". "Hurry up," said Jade, I finally lifted the metal door and saw nothing but a grey mist. I stand there with my eyes barely visible from the outside. I can't see anything but I can hear something, something is coming. Jade pulls me down back into the bunker as hard as she can, "What did you see"? I tried explaining that I saw nothing at first but then heard something in the distance. She didn't care, all Jade ever wanted was answers and she wanted them fast. I don't like to say shes needy so I won't, but she's the worst girl I've ever met. Profitability also increased, but not nearly at the same pace as sales revenue. Net income rose from $60,000 in 1993 to $68,000 in 1994 (a 13.3% increase), to $77,000 in 1995 (13.2% increase). This increase in sales and profitability demanded growth in working capital and fixed assets to finance the growth, creating a need for cash that outpaced free cash flow into the firm. Furthermore, Mr. Clarkson's buyout payments to Mr. Holtz in 1995 and 1996 only added to the liquidity predicament. Thus, Clarkson was compelled to draw upon his line of credit with Suburban National Bank and begin relying heavily on trade credit, quickly maxing out his bank credit line by the end of 1995. The financial strength of Clarkson Lumber has deteriorated between 1993 and 1995. Clarkson had a free cash flow to the firm of +$2,000 in 1994, but that dropped to –$159,000 for 1995. • 20. Characteristics Of Gun Shootings When conducting an investigation for a homicide due to a handgun it is important that investigators and firearms technicians have an understanding on how a handgun is manufactured, what is a bore, rifling patterns and their purpose, and caliber. Class and individual characteristics are present in handguns, projectiles and shell casings. Every handgun contains general rifling characteristics based on the number and width of grooves, as well as the direction of grooves. After a handgun is fired it can present with penetrating and perforating gunshot wounds, which have specific entry and exit characteristics. The muzzle–to–distance characteristics vary depending on how close or distant the shooter was from the victim or surface. Finally, at a crime scene an investigator must gather evidence at a death scene. When a handgun is used the investigator should document class characteristics of a firearm, bullet or shell casing. Also, the handgun or ammunition should be dusted for fingerprint and DNA evidence. Early handguns of the 14th century were made of a bronze tube or wrought iron, packed with gun powder and a projectile then ignited through a touch–hole. These early guns were wildly inaccurate and often failed. By 1835, Samuel Colt patented the first revolving cylinder and chamber handgun, which was later mass produced as a weapon of choice by military personnel. This moment changed the course of history and made a legend of both the man and his product. Though the invention of the revolver did have an enormous impact on society, was it for the better? Did it bring peace as the name one model suggests, the Colt Peacemaker, or did it bring death and destruction? To choose a side meant to choose whether to stand with one's friends and family, or an opposing opinion. In Ireland, the civil war in 1922 forced communities to decide between being a republican or a free–state. Brother fought against brother, friend against friend. Liam O'Flaherty's use of symbolism, setting, and unexpected ending establish the idea that civil war causes damage to the family as a basic unit of society. O'Flaherty uses the sniper's revolver to symbolize the sniper's remorse for his frenzied actions in battle. After he kills his opponent, he looked at "the smoking revolver in his hand, and with an oath he hurled it to the roof at his feet" (O'Flaherty 3). By throwing the revolver, he signifies ridding himself of the "lust of battle" (O'Flaherty 3) The revolver represents the impulsive and destructive nature of battle. O'Flaherty also wrote "His teeth chattered, he began to gibber to himself, cursing the war, cursing himself, cursing everybody" (O'Flaherty 3) This excerpt furthers the claim that the sniper repents his actions during battle, and that after the high of combat, his conscious realized the impact of what he had done. Ever since then, the Peacemaker has shaped American history in numerous ways and came to embody all the values like individualism, freedom and power that America stood for. To begin with, before the 1830s, the only guns that were available to the public and themilitary were the muskets and rifles, and primitive pistols. The muskets and rifles were very large in size, took a long amount of time to reload and were difficult to aim. In addition to advancements in smaller firearms, the US military also saw improvements in the sector of long range rifles. Muzzle loading muskets from the Revolutionary War were highly inefficient and and extremely dangerous to use. When on the battlefield, trying to load a muzzle loading musket became very complicated. If the soldier loaded a bullet but it got jammed, and they tried to fire, the musket would explode in their face, causing many unnecessary injuries to the soldier force (National Park Service, "Evolution of the Breechloader"). With the invention of the breech loader, loading a rifle became exceedingly simple. In a breech loading rifle, the soldier loads a cartridge containing the bullet and the gunpowder into a chamber. They would then proceed to fire the weapon. This method of loading a weapon was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 38. Semiautomatic Firearms A Gun Is A Gun Is A Gun Right? You have seen the articles, the top 20 firearms all Preppers need, or the five best self defense handguns, or here is a list of the best rifles or shotguns for home defense and the lists go on. Confusing, and you probably did not learn anything, and you may feel somewhat slighted, because you do not have any of the guns that the so–called expert was stating emphatically that you need. It is not the firearm, but the person using it, and then the reason that person wants a firearm that is the deciding factor. Let's face it; any firearm that can put a round downrange is better than throwing a lamp at someone. Do you know how to decide? From a purely mechanical and technological standpoint, today's semiautomatic pistols are superior. Not too long ago if someone mentioned handguns you automatically thought revolver. The ever steadfast revolver, while they differ somewhat, the mechanics have remained the same throughout the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There is a reason however, why most militaries around the world carry semiautomatic pistols and not revolvers and many in law enforcement carry them as well. Keep in mind some semiautomatics are Double Action (DA) and Single Action (SA). Once a round is chambered from the slide action, the hammer is back. From this point you can de–cock it to make it double action or leave the hammer back for single action. After the first round subsequent shots are of course single action, because the slide is forced back to eject a shell cocking the firearm each time. The revolver is not going anywhere, because people grew up with them, it may have been for many their first handgun that was handed down. They do have advantages over semiautomatics and there are disadvantages as well. You do not have to choose, because you can have both as long as you become proficient in their use. You do have to consider who will be using the weapon and who may have access to the weapon as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. Peter Christopher Questions about The Shooting of Peter Christopher Yajie Cao (Jay) 1.In this circumstance, Tony is not allowed to use force to protect his property. As Prosser on Torts, Third Edition, pages 116–118, states: "The law has always placed a higher value upon human safety than upon mere rights in property. It is the accepted rule that there is no privilege to use any force calculated to cause death or serious bodily injury to repel the threat to land or chattels, unless there is also such a threat to justify a self–defense. Spring guns and other man–killing devices are not justifiable against a mere trespasser, or even a petty thief" (Hodge S., 2014, p. 21). So it is illegal for Tony to shoot Peter in this circumstance because Peter only threatened his property ––– the car rather than his human safety. 2.Tony didn't use a reasonable degree of force under the circumstances. As the answer from the first question goes, it is illegal for Tony to shoot Peter in this circumstance because Tony intentionally caused body damage to Peter with his service revolver which is man–killing device. Under the circumstance, in my opinion, Tony can protect the evidence of the scene and call the police as soon as the theft going on. Or he can warn Peter to leave because police will come here soon. If he goes on stealing, the police will arrest him and throw him in jail. 3.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It doesn't matter that Tony warned Peter before he shot him. The fact is that Tony caused human damage to Peter with a man –killing device. The worst thing is that he had known the service revolver would seriously threaten Peter's human safety. In other words, he was intentional rather than neglectful. So he should bear criminal responsibility. Even though he warned Peter, he couldn't threaten Peter's safety and cause serious body damage. The only circumstance which can allow him to shoot Peter is that Peter seriously threaten his human safety instead of property. It can't be the excuse that Tony warned Peter ... The video explains that the revolver has a black powder frame and isn't designed to function with the modern smokeless powder.
