Pair-to-pair discussionDiscussed the case and the determinants of health Pre-visit researchWhat accommodations were in the area?Meals on WheelsGrocery StoresDiscussion -Discussed findings, where to go, plan for the day -brief menu so we had an idea of what to get in storePrimary researchSpoke with first hand resourcesVisited places determined in the pre-visit research stage to determine daily meals
-Destination was 48 Thorncliffe
-sidewalks were clear, no obstructions -air pollution was typical-side walks were populated with people-bus stops along the route however only two with benches-if she’s walking to the grocery and wants to sit down, she doesn’t have much option
-area is full of apartment complexes
-road construction which would attribute to air quality –didn’t pose any interference on her walking route-Streetlights present
-about a 10-12 minute walk (for us) there is a food basics right on the corner of thorncliffe and overlea
-The area has a high muslim population-observation, heard from a pedestrian-cultural food markets available with ethnic cuisine-one right across the street from the food basics and over Overlea in a separate plaza-
-fresh fruit and vegetables-similar selection as other grocery stores-in terms of produce-it could have been because there was a special on the apples, but stock wasn’t replenished that regularly -the quality of the rest of the produce and meats were comparable what’s available in a grocery that we would visit-prices were comparable as well and we were able to complete our task and provide Ms. SC with a week’s worth of groceries for $40
-Ms. SC wants to remain independent however, if her knees got to the point where she can’t leave the house there is a meals on wheels program-deliver one meal per day depending on the pattern-Mon to Fri or everyday-between 11 and 1-sizable meals-cup soup, 2 slices of WW bread, dessert, Chicken, mashed potatoes, broccoli and corn-for $5.50Frozen meals-just meal-no soup or dessert-for a week it would be $29.50
-Disease-Type II diabetesDisease: physiological/psychologicalDysfunction-determined by evidence –glucose levels would be the evidence in this case
-has osteosrthritis in her knees-knees hurt is she walks long distances Ms. SCDisability-still independent member of society but worried about knees becoming worseDisability: temporary or long‐term reductionof a person’s capacity to function in society• Illness: subjective state of the person whofeels aware of not being well• Sickness: state of social dysfunction: role thatthe individual assumes when ill
