Design of SIMOCODE pro C
Every system is always equipped with a basic unit as basic component and a separate current monitoring module per each feeder. Both modules are electrically interconnected by means of a connection cable and, as with SIMOCODE-DP, can optionally be mechanically connected as a unit (back-to-back) or can be mounted separately (side-by-side). Thanks to the separation of the basic unit and the current detection, the main circuit may now have a distance of up to 2 m to the respective control circuit. Due to the separate current detection, the motor current to be monitored only influences the selection of the respective current monitoring module. Optionally, an operator panel for cabinet door mounting can be connected to the basic unit. The current monitoring module and the operator panel are electrically fed by the basic unit. No additional wiring is required.
Note: SIMOCODE pro V is downward-compatible with SIMOCODE pro C and, in addition to all SIMOCODE pro C functions, offers many additional functions. The parameterization of SIMOCODE pro C can be adopted unchanged.
Design of SIMOCODE pro V
The design corresponds to SIMOCODE pro C.
However: Compared with basic unit 1 (SIMOCODE pro C), the basic unit 2 (SIMOCODE pro V) can be extended by additional inputs/outputs and functions with the help of various optional expansion modules. Consequently, special functions such as, e.g. earth fault detection with a summation current transformer, can be applied only where they are required.
Basic Unit 1 (BU 1) as basic component
The basic unit forms the basic component of the SIMOCODE pro C system.
The approximate bisection of the width compared to the previous device to a width of merely 45 mm is an essential novelty.
The new wide-voltage range (110 – 240 V AC/DC) for the supply voltage grants enhanced application flexibility. As a matter of course, a 24 V DC version is also available.
Practical - the thermistor connection integrated in the basic units. Additional evaluation units can therefore be dispensed with. The features known from SIMOCODE-DP such as 4 binary inputs (24 V DC internal supplied), the 3 monostable relay outputs as well as the PROFIBUS-DP connections are also embedded in both basic units (SUB-D and terminal connection).
Note: Now one relay output less at the basic device.
The operator panel (OP) facilitates motor feeder control via the control cabinet
Halved height – identical width ... and yet expanded functionality! With a surface of only 36 x 96 mm (H x W), the new operator panel can replace 5 conventional pushbuttons and 10 LEDs. With the now freely assignable 4 pushbuttons and 7 LEDs, the new operator panel now offers an even expanded functionality while offering space savings of up to 50 % in comparison with the previous devices.
Note: One additional pushbutton and additional LEDs – and still reduced space requirements.
Current monitoring module and operator panel as with SIMOCODE pro C.
Basic Unit 2 (BU 2) as basic component
All terminals as with BU 1.
However: The BU 2 offers more functions and the option of connecting the described expansion modules.
Furthermore, also a current/voltage measuring module can be applied instead of the current measuring module (voltage/power measuring, etc.) with these units.
Note: The BU 2 has a larger mounting depth than the BU 1.
Current Measuring Modules (IM)
The current detection which is now separated from the basic units facilitates a far more flexible integration in the motor feeder. Thanks to connection cables with a length of up to 2 m, the main circuit can now have a “somewhat longer” distance to the control circuit. This makes SIMOCODE pro applicable also in very confined environments. The extended and noticeably overlapping current ranges as of 0.3 A are a particular novelty.
The mechanical connection of the basic unit and the current measuring module as one unit as with SIMOCODE-DP is also possible for current measuring modules up to 100 A.
New: The 20 – 200 A current measuring module is now available either with straight-through transformer or with busbar connection technology.
Current/Voltage Measuring Modules (UM)
Similar to the current measuring modules, however, with the option of detecting the string voltages within the main circuit by the additional wiring of 3 conductors.
The application of a current/voltage measuring module facilitates the measuring, processing and monitoring of power-related parameters. (Apparent power, effective power, power factor, phase sequence ….)
Note: A mechanical connection of the BU with a UM is not possible. Side-by-side mounting.
Expansion by additional binary I/Os or bistable relay outputs
As with SIMOCODE-DP, the basic unit can be expanded by additional binary inputs or relay outputs which can later be assigned to any functions within the system in accordance with the user‘s individual requirements. Other than with SIMOCODE-DP, this can now be realized in two steps by means of up to two digital modules with a width of 22.5 mm. In other words:
With SIMOCODE pro, the adequate replacement of an expansion module known from SIMOCODE-DP requires only 50 % of the space! In addition, the versions listed below can be flexibly combined and are applicable at the same basic unit:
Digital module: 4 inputs, external supply with 24 V DC and 2 monostable relay outputs
Digital module: 4 inputs, external supply with 110 – 240 V AC/DC and 2 monostable relay outputs
Digital module: 4 inputs, external supply with 24 V DC and 2 bistable relay outputs
Digital module: 4 inputs, external supply with 110 –240 V AC/DC and 2 bistable relay outputs
Expansion by earth fault monitoring with summation current transformer
A decision between an earth fault detection or thermistor motor protection is no longer required! This is the solution: Both functions can be integrated in the same feeder within only one system if required by the user! The basic unit 2 (SIMOCODE pro V) can additionally be expanded by a earth fault module (22.5 mm). By means of a summation current transformer, an even more accurate external earth fault monitoring can thus be realized. The advantage – a summation current transformer used with SIMOCODE-DP can remain in the main current circuit and be further used with SIMOCODE pro. The tripping behavior thus remains unchanged.
Expansion by analog temperature detection and monitoring
Beside temperature monitoring using binary PTC resistors, motors are often also monitored via analog temperature sensors. Irrespective of the thermistor motor protection, the new temperature module (22.5 mm) facilitates the connection of up to three analog temperature sensors (e.g.: Pt100/ Pt1000) to the SIMOCODE pro V system. SIMOCODE pro V detects and monitors the current motor temperature and forwards it to the automation system.
Note: Sensor measuring circuits in three-conductor technology. Within the system, only one temperature (the max. temperature) of all measuring circuits is available.
Expansion by an analog input and output (0/4 – 20mA)
Are filling levels, flowrates or positions also to be detected and monitored? If so, SIMOCODE pro offers the suitable expansion module.
The optional analog module (22.5 mm) facilitates the detection, monitoring and output of a 0/4 – 20 mA signal and offers free access to the automation system via PROFIBUS-DP.
Note:
The analog output can be assigned with any “analog value” available within the system (e.g. current motor temperature, phase current, voltage, actual timer value, actual counter value, etc.).
The conversion of a 4…20 mA signal into a 0…20 mA signal is also possible (…and, of course, the other way around).
All functions known from SIMOCODE-DP have been revised and improved in terms of flexibility. Many new functions have been integrated.
Protective and monitoring functions
Almost all protective and monitoring functions are now designed as multi-step solutions (advance warning and fault) and offer a delay option.
Control functions
The control functions known from SIMOCODE-DP
+ new control functions (refer to the next page).
The data
With these data, you receive an even more comprehensive picture of your motor feeder and are always up-to-date. The additionally integrated maintenance-relevant functions support the maintenance and service personnel.
Compatibility: SIMOCODE-DP – SIMOCODE pro
Simultaneous operation at the bus/ unit replacement
Must the otherwise necessary adaptations in the control system be restricted to a minimum or even avoided within the scope of a system expansion or unit replacement ? – SIMOCODE pro offers the solution!
Integration into the automation system
A system expansion or unit replacement by an advanced generation of communication-capable motor management and control devices must, especially in highly available processes, not automatically lead to extensive configuration tasks within the automation system or even to system downtimes. This is why a “3UF50 compatibility mode” has been integrated in the basic unit 2 (SIMOCODE pro V). If SIMOCODE pro V is switched to this compatibility mode, data exchange is realized via PROFIBUS without affecting the automation system as with a respective SIMOCODE-DP. I.e. the automation system is continuously supplied with the required data without any additional expenditures although, within the field, SIMOCODE pro V is applied.
Parameterization
The installation of a new GSD file, a new object manager for STEP7 or an EDD for SIMATIC PDM for device parameterization via PROFIBUS is not categorically required. SIMOCODE ES Professional offers the possibility of also realizing the parameterization via PROFIBUS-DP. The frequently available parameter files of SIMOCODE-DP can be converted into SIMOCODE ES parameter files and used for the parameterization of the new devices. (Converter) Advantage: Thanks to the device function adopted by SIMOCODE-DP and an identical parameterization, the protection, monitoring and tripping behavior of the motor practically remains unchanged. I.e. also within the field, SIMOCODE pro behaves as SIMOCODE-DP.
Result: SIMOCODE pro V behaves as SIMOCODE-DP at the bus and additionally assures an identical motor tripping behavior.
SIMOCODE pro can be integrated into any conventional PROFIBUS-DP capable automation system.
Parameterization and diagnostics with SIMOCODE ES
SIMOCODE ES is the new parameterization software for SIMOCODE pro, executable on a PC/PG under Windows 2000 or Windows XP. With SIMOCODE ES, the SIMOCODE pro motor management system offers a user-friendly and clearly structured interface with which the SIMOCODE pro can be comfortably parameterized, operated, monitored and tested both within the field or via a central station. Thanks to the display of numerous operating, service and diagnostics data, SIMOCODE ES supplies the user with significant information for maintenance or failure cases. In failure cases, faults can thus rapidly be localized and rectified. The two versions:
SIMOCODE ES Smart, for direct connection to SIMOCODE pro via the unit‘s system interface (point-to-point) by means of the new PC cable.
SIMOCODE ES Professional, for connection to one or several devices via PROFIBUS-DP or point-to-point via the system interface.
Note: SIMOCODE-DP cannot be parameterized with SIMOCODE ES. / Old PC cables cannot be used.
SIMOCODE ES Graphic
The optional software package for SIMOCODE ES facilitates a very ergonomic and user-friendly parameterization via “Drag & Drop.” The inputs and outputs of the function blocks can be graphically linked and parameters can be set.
Thanks to individual comments, the configured functions can be described in detail and the device parameterization can be graphically documented. – This speeds up commissioning and “visibly” simplifies documentation.
Besides balanced unit functions and an elaborate hardware layout, also the user friendliness of the parameterization software as well as a profound system integration play important roles. A motor management system such as SIMOCODE pro must offer optimum and rapid integration options into the most various system configurations and automation systems. Thanks to our consideration of this aspect, we can now, with SIMOCODE pro, offer you the appropriate software tools for consistent and time-saving configuration, commissioning and diagnostics.
Thanks to the multitude of various operating and service data which SIMOCODE pro is able to supply, SIMOCODE pro is not only a motor management system which integrates the load feeder into an automated process. – In parallel, it can furthermore feed power management or maintenance systems with the data required by such systems. Due to this, SIMOCODE pro also functions as an “intelligent sensor” within the field for these kinds of superior systems.
Memory Module for parameterization without PC/PG
Do you want to rapidly commission a new SIMOCODE pro?
Especially in the motor control centers of the process industry, the availability of the motors and with it, the availability of the processes is of utmost importance. Even short downtimes often result in high costs. With the new storage module, you can rapidly commission SIMOCODE pro without any further auxiliary tools.
Note: The storage module transmits the parameters and the PROFIBUS address. / The storage module can be “fed” by means of a basic unit, e.g. also in the office. / It is absolutely optional. Also without plugged-on storage module and after loss of the power supply at the basic unit, SIMOCODE pro does not lose its parameterization.
Addressing Plug for PROFIBUS address
Frequently, PROFIBUS slaves are comfortably parameterized from a central station via PROFIBUS. For such remote parameterization, a PROFIBUS address is required. With the new addressing plug, any basic unit can be assigned with any PROFIBUS address within seconds, thereby ensuring the units‘ addressability by PROFIBUS-DP. With SIMOCODE ES Professional, several SIMOCODE pro units can thus, for example, easily be commissioned via a central station.
With SIMOCODE pro, now plug inserts with a height of 50 mm are possible.
Before, only plug inserts with a height of 100 mm were applicable with SIMOCODE pro.
With the illustrated control cabinet, 35 motors can now be protected and controlled.
Including communication with the automation system and the function multitude and flexibility known from SIMOCODE.
Absolute mounting flexibility: Current measuring modules side-by-side with the basic unit or ...
... current measuring modules back-to-back with the basic unit.
