Arrow And The Flash Character Analysis
In contrast, the love interest of Barry Allen, Iris West, is a woman of color that has ambitious and leadership qualities establishing that women in
general and women of color can be respected and achieve success through diversity in these TV shows. However, Iris, a high achiever, places herself
in dangerous situations when completing her job as a journalist, puts her character in the damsel in distress stereotype as Barry often saves her when
she is in trouble. This establishes to the viewer that women are always going to need a man supporting them in times of need, which negatively affects
female viewers and their own self–esteem as some female adolescents struggle with their problems of being restricted in leadership roles along with

These depictions lead female adolescents and peoples of color to perceive themselves as useful but not important in society which causes them to
interact and behave differently with others. While these characters have many positive qualities, they are shoved into stereotypical and archetypical
boxes that reduces their worth to the viewers. The female characters provide strong examples of women towards young viewers but are followed up
with a reason why the female character should be put in a corner. The characters of color have noble intentions and are respected but pushed to the
sidelines when their cause gets show time by the male protagonists. Thus, while these characters do provide positive and influential examples to
adolescent viewers, the characters have easily definable qualities that can negatively affect the viewers. As such, young viewers can follow either the
vigilantism or heroism route since they are impressionable by huge media figures. This suggests that directors and creators of superhero television
shows should diversify their cast with a purpose to express that women and minorities can break social barriers and are important to

A Short Story Of A Vigilante
Nothing but silence on the way back home , Karen had that curious look on her face , but me . I felt like a detective , a vigilante , a rebel without a

We arrived at the house , wasn't the best of sight . Blood stains on the floor from where dad was stabbed , the house itself had not been cleaned in

The Vigilante Did NOT Achieve Justice In Film
The idea of vigilante justice is popular in books, on television, and in movies, I don't think justice is achieved if the vigilant died afterwards. For
example in, "And then there were none", the vigilante ends up also dying at the end. It's a lose lose situation. Instead of achieving justice and killing
all the "murderers" he a became a murder himself. The three reasons i think he did not achieve justice are, first of all to achieve justice he wouldn't
have died he would've wanted the attention for what he did "right". Second of all, I believe that most of the people he killed were innocent. Lastly,
justice was not achieved because justice is another way of saying fair,, as in playing fair.. Which is the exact opposite of what justice

Vigilantes: Cleaning Out The Wound Essay
Do you believe in vigilantism? Do you believe in criminals and outlaws being punished for their crimes in the name of justice? What if you knew
someone who was so close to you, you would do whatever it took to find those responsible for the pain they caused and punish them in the name of
justice. Would you walk down the path of avigilante and help bring about an end to their tyranny? Vigilantism can be looked at ascrime if you look at it
in a negative way, or it can be looked at in a positive way. Many vigilantes help make the world a better place every day by doing away with the evil
people in this world who kidnap, rape, murder, and loot people in the streets. Vigilantism is justified because the vigilantes help make the world a better

Neo– vigilantism includes many different varieties of vigilantism such as neighborhood crime and subway patrols, border security groups, and also
bounty hunters who can sometimes be hired to catch wanted criminals and fugitives for a price. A group called the Guardian Angels was formed in
February 1979 in the Bronx and these were vigilantes who looked after the people in the subway carts of New York. When they spotted trouble or
anyone in danger, they would intervene and help resolve the situation. The Guardian Angels is still around today and is a much decorated vigilance
committee and has been acknowledged by the president on several occasions.
In the 1980s, vigilantism began to spring up in many places, especially in Third World countries in the form of Death squad paramilitaries. A new kind
of vigilantism was brought about in the 1990s and it was known as cyber– vigilantism. Cyber– vigilantism was composed of people who go after
sexual predators, terrorists, and copyright infringers on the internet. The history of vigilantism has made many appearances throughout American
history and has played a major role on many occasions. Many criminals, outlaws, and terrorists have been carless and found themselves in the clutches
of vigilantes across the United States. Together, they have all made a difference in the lives of people who have been close

Utilitarian Ethics In Vigilantes
In any event, motives and consequences are two different factors that place a judgement on a course of action. Motive is the influence of choices and
actions which is characterized as an input; whereas, the output would be the consequence or result of the actions. Furthermore, there are limitations to
both of the concepts because motives are interchangeable due to various circumstances. For consequences, it cannot be precisely be determined by
contemplation. Thus, motives are more suitable in answering the question– Should we judge actions by motives or consequences– because there are
reasonable explanations and the choices that one makes is the reason why one is human. According to the Ten Commandments, killing is unacceptable
and unnecessary; however, killing can be ethical if motives are reasonable. In the film Arrow, vigilantism is considered as an unjustified activity
because the act of killing criminals demonstrates the dominance over the authority of the police. As a result, the purpose of anti–vigilante task force is
to limit the power and activity of vigilantes; however, the creators of the film utilizes utilitarian ethics to lessen the tone of fear of the deaths of
criminals. Utilitarian ethics is judged by the notion of the "the greatest happiness for the greatest number"; thus, the role of vigilantes in the films is to
protect the happiness of the innocent lives by eliminating the people who are causing harm. Therefore, the vigilante, Oliver Queen, is utilizing

" Beneath an overpass of the Hollywood Freeway at 1 A.M., Mr. Masters confronted two young men who were spraying graffiti, argued with them and
shot them, killing one, 18–year–old Cesar Arce," Seth Mydans Reported from The New York Times. This quote explains a vigilante trying to stop two
young men who were caught doing something illegal. The vigilante then killed one of the men for their crime. Most people consider this act of
brashness to be cruel and immature. But according Seth Manydan in the new York times article, "Instantly, Mr. Masters became the latest celebrity in

Understanding Vigilante Justice
The use of vigilante justice is illegal but, at times it can be understood. Vigilante justice is considered legal when dealing with it as self–defense.. The
term vigilante justice means someone has gone outside the law to carry out a punishment for a crime. In other words vigilante justice means that a
citizen has taken justice into their own hands. One of the defining elements of vigilantism is a response that involves violence that exceeds the
legitimate use of force in self–defense. These people who take justice into their own hands are called a vigilante.
"Our legal system does not permit vigilante justice" (Grisham 137). Self–defense, though, is the only type of vigilante justice that is legal because it is
one of the rights written in the constitution. It is considered legal because self–defense is one of the rights given to American citizens in the
Constitution."Our legal system also cannot condone men who take the law into their own hands". This means that the government cannot over look a
case of vigilante justice because it will cause problems in our society. The legal system also cannot over look it because the society cannot have people
just running around with guns shooting other people who did them wrong. The world would be chaos if that was allowed to happen because everyone
would be taking justice into their own hands because they are unhappy with the outcome of the case.
Most of the time the act of vigilante justice is taken because the legal system isn't

Analysis Of The Vigilante Spirit

Rising in the late 1980s the 'vigilante spirit' as explain by Justin Mann was brought upon by the regularity of "crime and unending hostility" (Mann)
that plagued the streets on New York. It was in this time graphic novelist Frank Miller sought to captivate his audience in a "more realistic" (Miller)
representation of New York which was the model for Batman's 'Gotham City'. The vigilante spirit presented during this time coincided with a sense of
"color–blind racism" (Alexander 2012; Bonilla Silva 2014) that was built on the fear of 'white–city dwellers' being vulnerable to minority crime. Frank

Mara Sophia Ellen Weiss, R.O., Th.D.. The Christ Complex. www.gnostic.org/articles_teachers/christ_complex.htm.
Committing himself to a life of seeking justice following his parent's death it can be implied that Bruce Wayne channels himself into what Mara
Weis refers to as the 'Christ Complex'. Weis explains the Christ Complex as an "individual fixed on superiority and claim of being a savior" (Weis).
Disregarding the obvious extreme of this which includes psychopathic murders, Weis claims there are varying ranges of 'subtle conditions'. This
addiction of subtle conditions can play into Bruce's alternate identity by swearing to avenge his parent's death and "rid Gotham of crime" (Origins).
Bruce Channels this almost profound responsibility into his alter ego Batman which creates an image of superior stature. Weis confirms the logic by
stating as one grows spiritually "development allows us to realize our full potential behind the innocence and loss of the child we once were". (Weis??)

Justice And Justice In Roscoe Pound's A Theory Of Justice
III. JUSTICE WITH AND WITHOUT LAW
Legal films narrate stories that have been made dramatic by invoking the audience's sense of justice and injustice. Since the early Greek tragedies,
justice– betrayed or denied, sought and vindicated, has been a central element of drama . But what does justice truly mean? Rawls (in his A Theory of
Justice) equates 'justice' with fairness, while Dworkin (in Justice for Hedgehogs) talks of justice encompassing equality, liberty and most importantly
being inseparable from law. More recently, Roscoe Pound (in his Justice According to Law) highlights the possibility of both
– justice with law and
justice without law.
Pound states that there was justice even before the law came into being, and even now, the laws are amended or moulded for every unique situation
that presents itself to the system. So, while a certain measure of justice may be achieved by following the law since it is uniform, ... Show more content

Contrary to the popular notion, vigilantism is not synonymous with violence– in fact, violence is seldom resorted to, in extreme situations. Women
and lower class men were never at the helm of affairs of such activities. Vigilantism is also very different from revolutionary violence in the sense
that while revolutionaries apply force to overthrow an established order and create a new, more fitting one, vigilantes believe in restoring status quo
by bringing back the original state of affairs as was, before being threatened by an internal or external agency. Vigilantes worked as revivalists of dying

Bruce Wayne Vigilantes
The Tale of Two Knights
Vigilantes. People who take justice into their own hands.Though vigilantism is common in the annals of history, and the kingdom of literature/arts,
there are few who truly define what it means to be a vigilante. Wilhelm Tauber and Bruce Wayne are two of those few. 16
–year–old Wilhelm "Wilm"
Tauber lives in Leipzig, Soviet–occupied East Germany, in 1947. Living with his bitter, unipedal accountant father who has a death wish, his
hardworking mother, and his traumatised sister Anneliese, who was raped by four Schutzpolizei (Schupos). The Schupos' reign of terror fuel Wilm's
hate for the status quo of the city. At night, with the help of his friends Karl, Georg and Ruth, Wilm humiliates his Soviet oppressors as the
Marionette Wolverine. One night, he throws a live grenade in a barrack which he thought was empty, only to be met by the screams of the soldiers
sleeping. Now a fugitive, he escapes to U.S occupied West Germany with his friends and sister. Meanwhile in Gotham, U.S.A, billionaire Bruce Wayne
has taken up the mantle of Batman to cleanse his city of crime. He did so because about two decades ago, he witnessed a common thief kill his parents.
Batman takes on criminals, both powerful and petty, with the hope that no child will see his/her parents slaughtered before him/her. With... Show more

For Wilm, it was witnessing the beating of his uniped father and hearing that his sister, Anneliese, was raped, both carried out by Schupos. The
beating of his father sparked his hatred into a burning fire, as flint and steel does to wood, while the rape of Anneliese fed the fire like gasoline. In
Batman's case, the sheer trauma of the death of his parents not only led to his hatred of guns, for the criminal killed his parents with a gun, but also
drove him to take up the role as Batman. It is even told to the reader that these traumatic events are why they fight no matter

I ran down to city hall to see my friend Oliver Queen (aka the Green Arrow), this city's vigilante. When an arrow hit me in the back and the next thing I

Barry." " Oliver is dead," yelled the man. " My son died 9 years ago on that boat so who the hell are you!" "My God, he was the one who died that day!
You must be his father, Robert Queen," I said while still shocked. He stepped forward and pulled his hood back " how do you know who I am?"

Analyzing Dr. Manhattan, Rorschach, And Nite Owl
Comic books have picked up popularity as a method for scholars to gain insight as to how society confronts problems. The purpose of my research is
to investigate the masculinity of the vigilante and how it hinges on their use of violence and sexuality. The three heroes I will analyze Dr. Manhattan,
Rorschach, and Nite Owl. Each portrays their masculinity through sexuality and violence differently. To accurately understand the concepts
aforementioned, it is imperative the reader look to the gutter of the comic. The gutter as defined by Scott McCloud is when the "Human imagination
takes two separate images and transforms them into a single idea" (McCloud 66). In his chapter "blood in the gutter" McCloud explains, violence often
happens inside the gutter to protect reader's sensibility. However, violence is not the only thing that happens in the gutter, anything deemed perhaps too
risquГ© also happens in the gutter. Therefore, much of the character's sexuality will also take place in the gutter. Readers must use their imagination to
create closure from the gaps that the gutter leaves. When the gutter is taken into consideration most of what defines a hero's masculinity takes place
there.
The first character I want to discuss is Dr. Manhattan and how his sexuality and use of violence play into his performance of masculinity. Dr.
Manhattan cannot understand the human conceptions of sexuality or the true repercussions of violence; therefore, he uses the ideology of society to go

Essay on Killings: The Price of Vigilante Justice
Throughout the tale of time, thoughts of revenge have corrupted even the most innocent of minds. In Andre Dubus' "Killings", Matt Fowler is
conflicted by two opposing forces: his own desire and his wife's demand for the death of their son's murderer. Through her manipulative words and her
emotional meltdowns, Matt Fowler ultimately succumbs to his wife's request and commits the gruesome act, which causes the audience to reevaluate

Periodically throughout the story, Ruth Fowler would clearly state that she wished for Richard Strout to die. She would also subtly suggest that her
husband should take charge to fulfill this desire. For instance, when Matt Fowler was drinking with his fellow friend Willis Trottier, he disclosed,
"Ruth would shoot him herself, if she thought she could hit him" (Dubus 3). In this exert, Matt Fowler reveals to his friend that he currently carries an
unlicensed gun, and he also admits that his wife is fully aware of this concealed weapon. Although Matt does not clarify whether or not Ruth approves
of this action, her inability to express her opinion demonstrates her underlying support for his actions. Matt Fowler also claims that Ruth would have
sought revenge and would have killed Richard Strout if she was capable. Since Ruth asserts she can not commit the act, she secretly implies that her
husband should accomplish the crime. Because Ruth clearly expressed her hatred toward her son's killer yet suggested that she was physically
incapable, Matt Fowler committed the act of murder to appease his wife's desire.
Although distraught and angered by the murder of his son, Matt Fowler did not harbor the will and innate animosity to seek revenge upon his son's
killer; however, through the actions and words of his friends and his relatives, Matt Fowler was motivated to take

The Silent Film Within Our Gates
In 1920, Oscar Micheaux directed the silent film Within Our Gates which conducts an in–depth examination of race relations and discrimination within
the United States. One of the outcomes of the film is a blatant failure of justice resulting in the lynching of an African American couple, The Landrys.
Seemingly, time has not altered the inherent absence of justice concerning the treatment of Black men and women in situations where criminal
activity is suspected, legitimately or otherwise. Evidence is found with the killings of Eric Garner, Michael Brown, Tamir Rice, and many other
Black victims who died at the hands of police who are tasked with upholding justice and fail to do so. However, what was the popular sentiment
toward failure within the legal system between 1920 and 2015? While not representative of this entire time span, in 1962, Robert Mulligan's film To
Kill a Mockingbird focuses on race relations and an African American male wrongly accused of rape who is ultimately killed in a suspicious police
shooting. Within Our Gates and To Kill a Mockingbird each offer a presentation of a gross miscarriage of justice that is obvious to the omniscient
viewer, but the reaction the films garner from the audience varies from outrage to resignation due to the implementation (or lack thereof) of a visual
stimuli, telling of the time period in which the films were produced.

A vigilante is an individual who appoints his or herself as an arbiter of justice in a community he or she believes to be deficient in crime and
punishment resources. Bruce Wayne–also known as Batman–is Gotham's vigilante who, from a young age, has had a personal vendetta against
criminals after witnessing the fatal armed robbery of his parents. The guilt Bruce feels for the death of his mother and father suggests that his motives
are not solely righteous or just, but vengeful (Nolan, "Batman Begins", 2005). But while the corruption of Gotham, the law enforcement, and Batman
may seem fictitious, vigilantism is a real–life societal issue. In Arizona and Mexico, vigilante groups fight against the Mexican cartels because the
government either fails to take action, or is corrupt itself. However, these vigilante groups can in turn become corrupt as well ("Amid Mexico's Drug
Wars, Vigilante Groups Are Taking The Law Into Their Own Hands", 2015). In Gerhard Falk's book on the Americancriminal justice system he writes,
"Consequently, the vigilantes themselves became "outlaws" in that they hanged thieves as well as murderers without consulting any law" (Falk, 2010).
Self–appointment and vengeance are just two downfalls of vigilantism, but the act of taking the law into one's own hands is problematic for the
criminal justice system as a whole.

America 's Current Socio Political Events And Values Are...
America's current socio–political events and values are reflected through the film industry's portrayal of superheroes. Annika Hagley writes a very
convincing argument regarding this theory in her article "America's need for superheroes has lead to the rise of Donald Trump." Post 9/11, it has
become increasing clear that the issues and values held dear to most Americans are now being portrayed on the big screen. Fighting back at the
"enemy" and uniting as one are some of the messages in the background of superhero films released after the attacks on the twin towers. Today, the
USA is more divided; just like the superheroes that have been on the silver screen in recent months. In continuation, America's allowances for overly
violent superheroes and everything said superheroes stand for, are simply just reflections of their own socio–political views and values. It is this
allowance that has lead to the rise of Donald Trump.
Exacting vigilante justice in the name of the greater good has been the message in a handful of superhero movies released in the past the few years.
Almost eerily, this action has matched with the United State's agenda, invading the Middle East. In recent years, the focus has shifted from fighting
united, to fighting those who do not share the same political views. The Democratic party leader Hilary Clinton is running a campaign based on liberal

Vigilante with a Large Wallet In the world of superheroes, there are numerous that believe they are heroes, while in actuality, they are merely
vigilantes. This is demonstrated throughout the world of superheroes, but it is not as prominently demonstrated as in Batman. Batman presents himself
as a hero, while he is only an over imaginative vigilante. He is more a vigilante than a hero since he has the ability to stop crime, but doesn't, he only
does deeds for his own benefit, and he helps the law but isn't part of it. These are only a few ways Batman is a vigilante, rather than a hero. These

Heroes have the tendency to fight crime or serve the public without having to have a personal reason, this is not the case for Batman. Batman
regularly, if not constantly, fights crime for his own benefit. While Batman was still Bruce Wayne, his parents were killed by a soon to be
supervillain, this caused him to have an alternative motive to become a "hero." Even if he does not directly advance on his parent's murder, he still
attacks ever villain that he thinks did him an injustice. "He smashes any and everything in his way while pursuing his ends," (Wilson). While Batman
smashes through his own intentions, Captain America fights crimes/serves the city for the people not for his own benefit. Batman might seem to be
doing what a hero is supposed to do, but he is merely trying to avenge his parents death. " Police are perplexed, worried the group will turn into
vigilantes and doubt that the superhero policy is ever stopped any crime," (source A). This is the same with Batman; the police do not know what to
fashion of him, but are worried that he will insert himself in trouble. Batman might seem to be doing activities for others, still he does them for
himself. Though Batman tries to be portrayed as a hero, he is only a vigilante since he helps the law, but is not a part of it. This means that he fights
crime, but is not a member of the police force or other civil duties that

At one level, it deals with the inadequacies of the law in addressing to the question of justice and at the same time highlights the importance of the

Another interesting view put forth is that justice may not necessarily mean taking revenge and punishing those who go against the society but it means
that in doing so, the innocent must not suffer and that every accused must be given an opportunity to fair trial and fair procedure in determination of

It also deals with the questions of morality and psychology of a person who assumes the position of the judge while offering to judge the innocence or

through the acts of Batman and the Joker. With the help of the district attorney and Jim Gordon, Batman aims to put an end to the remaining criminal
organizations that plague the city of Gotham. Definition of superhero. Gotham is relatively peaceful until a criminal known as the Joker puts Gotham in
a state of a reign of terror in the city. He is willing to kill people forward his agenda, but Batman fights crime without taking lives. The movie makes
the point that vigilante justice is justifiable in certain circumstances and to some extent glorifies it. Batman is a more powerful character because he
fights against injustice and corruption in Gotham city. Batman`s parents were murdered before his eyes as a child. Batman has a great deal of wealth.
The events and circumstances in Batman`s life lead him to be a leader of vigilante justice in Gotham.
Batman fights against crime in Gotham city, but his methods are sometimes illegal and his ethics are questionable. For example, Batman goes to a
different country, Hong–Kong, and arrested a supposed criminal. Also, he tracks citizen`s phones to make sure people are safe. Throughout the movie,
Batman demonstrates ethical choices that are questionable. However, there are ethical boundaries he will not cross. For example, when he captures a

Richard Friedman 's Seminal Work, Crime And Punishment Essay
Several themes emerge from the course Frontier Justice that match well with the major themes in Lawrence Friedman's, seminal work, Crime and
Punishment in American History. His main thesis is that judgements about crime and what to do about it come from a specific time and place. Part of
his work addresses the history of criminal justice in which he calls, the history of power. He identifies the relationship between crime, criminal justice
and American culture. When one looks at the frontier West and its dynamics, one can see how those in power bent and at times broke the law in order
to achieve their aims. Culture played an important role in many part of the West which was a far different culture than the one found in the East. This
different culture resulted from the dynamics of Westward expansion and had dramatic role in shaping the West. Certainly, the frontier West can be
described as both a time and place.
Many have romanticized views of what the West was like. The historian Robert Utley wrote, "historical reality lies somewhere between the
extremes". As one examines everything in between, what emerges from the comparison of Friedman's work and that of frontier justice, is a
question of what were the causes of violence in the West. Before the frontier closed, it could be described at times as a lawless land influenced by
the lawful law and the lawless law. The causes of this violence are as diverse as the West itself. Several factors came together in a sort of perfect

Journal of a Teenage Vigilante
Something happened. Something big. I don't really know who I can talk to, so I just won't talk to anyone. To keep from going insane, I've decided to
start a journal. Mom says that journals help when things are hard in life. This is said journal. Also, if I become unimaginably famous, the press can
use this if they want. That probably won't happen though. I'd be okay with that too. I need to focus now. I've been going over what happened ever
since that night. I need to write it down before I forget something. So, where else to start other than the beginning? I got home from school that night.
It was about a week and a half ago now, but I remember it ever so clearly. I got home, grabbed a pudding cup, and... Show more content on

She'd go to my house whenever we had ramen for supper, sometimes just to piss off her parents. We've been pretty close since. I opened the

get to my house as fast as you can. Cooper's not leaving." I wondered what she had meant. I knew that she had planned on breaking up with him,
but why wasn't he leaving? I knew that he was loud and practically verbally abusive, but why would she want me to come? I panic, I freeze, and I'm
practically useless in certain situations. I was already a bit worried. I did know one thing though. My best friend needed me. I didn't know what to

I tucked those, a mini flashlight, and my phone into my pockets. At times like this, I was glad to have men's pants. The pocket room was definitely

Taking Justice Into Your Own Hands is Not Appropriate
"Beneath an overpass of the Hollywood Freeway at 1 A.M., Mr. Masters confronted two young men who were spraying graffiti, argued with them and
shot them, killing one, 18–year–old Cesar Arce." states Isabel Wilkerson, journalist for The New York Times. (Mydans 1) A vigilante is a member of a
volunteer committee organized to suppress and punish crime summarily as when the processes of law is viewed inadequate. A vigilante typically
participates in certain organizations without authorization to enforce the law. The topic vigilante justice occurs in the novel of, And Then There Were
None.Vigilante justice is not appropriate or beneficial.
Vigilante justice is a coverup for a crime. "Criminals hear the verdict and may use it as an excuse for whatever method of problem–solving they see
fit," said Dr. Robert Trojanowicz, director of the School of Criminal Justice at Michigan State, who is a research fellow at the Kennedy School of

justice into their own hands. Most of the times the police conduct thorough investigations to determine who, what, where, and when a crime has

The Vigilante Killing
Throughout history, there has been many different cases of recorded vigilante killing. From history to religion, there has been an almost taboo logic
towards it. As humanity went through the phrases of medieval times, the industrial era, and now humanity is in the twenty–first century, vigilante
killing is still in current society. Vigilante is a citizen who decides to take the law into their own hands without legal authority, as they believe that the
legal way is inadequate (Merriam–Webster, 1997). In few cases, the vigilante strongly believes that the person who is bringing change, is hurting them
and their beliefs in an emotional way. It is at this point that they first turn to the law in hopes of stopping this change. Yet, things keep

Essay about TARGETED KILLING: A JUSTIFIED ACT
Extrajudicial killings, or targeted killings as it is sometimes called, is the "deliberate, specific targeting and killing, by a government or its agents, of
a supposed terrorist or of a supposed 'unlawful combatant' (i.e., one taking a direct part in hostilities in the context of an armed conflict) who is not in
that government's custody" ("Targeted Killing", Wikipedia). For years, targeted killings have been an integral part of modern warfare and in recent
times has also integrated itself into the everyday law enforcement. An example of the former would be USA's constant use of this as a central
component of its counter–terrorism operations, and a perfect example of the latter would be its utilization by Bangladesh's elite anti–crime ... Show

It is a right that is imbued into ourselves from the very moment that we begin to exist, and ends with our dying breath. Enforcers have always had the
most dangerous of jobs, living under the constant threat of their lives being at stake. When one such enforcer faces a situation such as the one stated s
/he is allowed by the laws of all established governments to protect himself/herself from imminent danger, and take the life of the suspect if necessary.
Of course, the act of self–defense can only be condoned if the enforcer in question has ensured that "the perceived attacker poses a clear and imminent
danger to one's vital interests and that the attacker bears responsibility for this danger" (Statman 04). The victim (which in this case, is the enforcer)
must also verify that the attacker is, beyond a shadow of doubt, responsible for the crime for which s/he has been accused. Until and unless these
conditions have been fulfilled, self–defense cannot be accepted as an argument for the extra–judicial killing. However, if that is not the case, the
enforcer is allowed to do whatsoever necessary to protect himself/herself.
Furthermore, a nation's government may choose to eliminate individuals or organizations which pose a threat to the nation itself – i.e. an act of
"self–defense" from the nation's part. The UN Charter explicitly states

The Vigilante: A Reoccurring Archetype in American...
The vigilante is a reoccurring archetype in American entertainment and can be seen from comic books from the early 20th century to films released in
2010. Robert B. Ray in his piece about the vigilante makes it clear that the vigilante is a large part of American entertainment and culture. The
vigilante is one that believes that they are above the law and that the law is inadequate. This idea that the law is inadequate or unjust stems from Henry
Thoreau's Civil Disobedience. Thoreau believes that when the government is unjust, that we should do what we believe is moral or right, even if it
means breaking the law. Thevigilante often takes violent and dangerous measures to create justice in their world and in doing so raise a moral ... Show

This idea is crucial to the development of the vigilante because this is exactly how the vigilante views the law and the government. As Robert B.
Ray describes it the outlaw hero or vigilante's motto is "I don't know what the law is, but I do know what's right and wrong." The motto that Ray puts
forward is analogous with Thoreau's view of government, that it might as well not exist because the individuals moral compass in more important than
the majority's. America's history is full of groups of vigilantes set out to right the wrongs of society. A disturbing example of a very successful group
of vigilantes is the Ku Klux Klan or the KKK. The KKK was seen in numbers reaching the millions in the late nineteenth century to the early twentieth
century. The KKK can be identified as a group of vigilantes because they came about after the Civil War and the eradication of slavery. The founders
of the KKK had the mindset of the vigilante because they believed in the superiority of the white race and thought it was justified to protect that
superiority over blacks, Jews and other minorities. Although according to society's standards the KKK were terrorists, racists and

Figurative Language In The Hunted Oak And The Lynching
The poems by Paul Dunbar and Claude McKay both use figurative language in the poems the "The Hunted Oak" and "The Lynching". The ways that
they talk about it are completely different and invoke different feeling out of you as both writers wanted to talk about an important issue. "The hunted
oak" was written in 1913 and "The Lynching" was written in 1920 so this tells us that it was a prominent issue at the time. Each author used different
literary devices to convey their feelings and to express themselves. Their perception of terror is the same for both but how the convey it is different.
The poems are meant to have a sense of terror and fright.
The genre of the poem "The Hunted Oak" is drama because the author let's all the characters speak throughout the poem. The subject of this poem is
that there is a lynching going on and the tree is affected by the actions. The theme of this poem is that terror but not to a person but to thing. There
was a lot of forms of diction in this poem. For example, there was connotation when he said "And why, when I go through the shade you throw runs
a shudder over me" (Dunbar). That line also gave the reader imagery by using the word shudder, a person can physically see someone physically
shuddering. The tone of this poem was a somber one. It just gives the reading bad feeling for the tree at the end of the poem.
This poem is unique because it is told from the tree's perspective. Dunbar gave the tree feelings, this can be seen here "I feel the rope against my
bark against my bark". The theme of the poem is terror because the tree has conveyed emotions that make it seems that he was emotionally scarred
by this event. This can be seen in the line "For I feel his curse as a haunted bough on the trunk of a haunted tree". Also, the way that the tree
describes the event as a whole brings a sense of terror. For example, in the line "I feel in the throne of his final woe the touch of my own pain. This
not say that the victim who is being lynched is taking his last breath so does the tree. This also can be perceived that the tree and the victim are
interconnected, as their souls both leave the earth at the same time. Animist may believe that the line is of terror because the lynches

Batman Vigilante Essay
Is Batman a Vigilante or a Hero? In the world of superheroes, there are many that believe they are heroes, while in actuality, they are merely vigilantes.
This is most prominently seen in Batman. Batman presents himself as a hero, while he is only an over imaginative vigilante. He is more a vigilante
than a hero because he has the ability to stop crime but doesn't, he only does things for his own benefit, and he helps the law but isn't part of it. These
are only a few ways Batman is a vigilante, instead of a hero. These are mainly based upon the idea of him trying to hard to right his own past. Batman

While Batman was still Bruce Wayne, his parents were killed by a soon to be supervillain, this caused him to have an alternative motive to become a
"hero." For example Captain America fight crime and serves the city for the people not for his own benefit. Batman might seem like he is doing what
hero is supposed to do, but he is merely trying to avenge his parents death. " Police are perplexed, worried the group will turn into vigilantes and doubt
that the superhero policy is ever stopped any crime," (source A). This is the same with Batman; the police do not know what to make of him but are
worried that he will get himself in trouble. Batman might seem like he is doing things for others, yet he does them for himself. Though Batman
tries to be portrayed as a hero, he is only a vigilante because he helps the law, but is not a part of it. This means that he goes around fighting crime,
but is not a member of the police force or other civil duties that go around vanquishing crime. While he wants to be acknowledged as a hero that
saves the day and is praised for his work he only gets in the way of actual civil officers who are trying to do their jobs. " Our concern is if it goes
badly, then we end up getting called anyway, and we may have additional victims," (source A) and " Obviously law enforcement officials don't

Heroic Act Of Vigilance Justified?
Where is the line drawn between a citizen performing a heroic act of vigilance and a vigilant citizen committing a serious crime? Or is there ever
such a thing as a good vigilant crime? Vigilance or Vigilantism is the act of taking matters into your own hands, not consulting the authorities and
dealing with the 'problem' at hand in their own ways. However, there are serious consequences to this form of justice, and for what? To prove a
point? to show how corrupt the world really is? Or is it simply a case of revenge on someone who has done you wrong? In the end are these acts of
vigilance really justified? or is the large following they receive a little deceiving when it comes to whether or not they are really morally okay?

Why is vigilante unjust? There is no simple answer to this and there never will be because, each act of vigilance has positives and negatives that go

given to much power or freedom. if vigilance can prove the same fate for both something that starts as a good deed and something that begins with

Vigilantism In Criminal Justice
As a whole, society has mixed sentiments regarding vigilantism. However, society, for the most part, has a preconceived notion that vigilante based
justice consists of some superhero taking action into their own hands to stop the "bad guys". Vigilantism should not be confused with a personal duty
to investigate crimes happening within one self's personal community. According to The Free Dictionary, vigilante refers to "a person who is not a
member of law enforcement but who pursues and punishes persons suspected of lawbreaking." Within this definition alone lies the three biggest
problems with vigilantism. First, the individual is not a trained professional within law enforcement, therefore; they generally do not know how to

Vigilante based justice is by no means justice. In essence, vigilantism strips people of their constitutional and legal rights. If vigilantism was
allowed, suspected lawbreakers would have no presumption of innocence. Another right that would be lost would the right to have procedural due
process. In addition to the rights being lost, a vigilante will often carry a bias and/ or they do not have law enforcement training. With the absence
of training, the vigilante will more than likely detain the suspected law breaker in a harmful way, and the vigilante does not know how to properly
screen a suspected law breaker to collect facts. All of this being said, vigilantism does not provide suspected law breakers with adequate resources
and time to fight any allegations. For a moment place yourself in someone's shoes that has been wrongly accused of murder. Without any hesitation,
one of the family members of the deceased was allowed to murder you because of the preconceived notion that you had killed his/her family member.
This is what vigilantism looks like and why it is not acceptable. The possibility of false accusation leading to wrongly punishing an individual should
alone deter you from thinking vigilantism is good. This being said, vigilantism has no place in the realm of justice and is not

Teenage murders may be unprecedented, but violence is not. The past has followed us right up to today. Several national magazines recently ran

alarming cover stories about the "virtual epidemic of youth violence." Newsweek's "Teen Violence: Wild in the Streets," decried the number of young

Argumentative Essay On Vigilantes
Vigilantes are undertaking the task of the police in handling the issue. Berehulak noted, "J.R. [the drug victim's eldest son] said the man in the helmet
said, "Goodbye, my friend," before shooting his father [Crisostomo Diaz, 51] in the chest. His body sank, but the man shot him twice more, in the
head and cheeks. The children said the three men were laughing as they left." A laugh that stands for finding joy in killing people reveals that the
vigilantes bloodlust and nonchalant attitude towards killing. These set of circumstances evidently exhibit the intention of destroying a man's right.
Although the vigilantes are vindicated by their own deeds, the actions that they had shown is inhumane. Not only do they murder the pitiful
sufferers of this war, but they treat these individuals as if they are animals. In addition to clarify this case, Berehulak also said that some bodies were
found on the streets with their heads wrapped in packing tape. Others were left with crude cardboard signs labeling victims as dealers or addicts.
They did this to a dead body just to humiliate and remove the decency of a person. This reveals they do not pity or show compassion towards these
victims. Moreover, it is an awfully shameful fate that a person can have. That is why vigilantes shouldn't be slaughtering individuals with their own
hands. Rather they should inform the police officials to take over the mission that are appointed to them.
The extrajudicial killings of the authority becomes murder. According to the article "Crackdown on drugs in the Philippines involves extrajudicial
killings" by David Laconangelo, "About 800 of the deaths came at the hands of police during anti–drug operations, with the rest occurring under as yet
unknown circumstances,"(15&16) This statistic report is from June 2016 to September 2016. The amount of deaths that the police had committed for
only three months seems very alarming and leave other people into a suspicion of a dishonorable act. Anything that are not proven by the officials in
being a user or seller of drugs to killing them is considered unjustifiable. In the article, "Shot and dumped by a pigsty: a schoolboy killed in Philippines

Negative Effects Of Vigilantism
Vigilantism: A Waste Of Life A body lays face down in the grass, police sirens echo through the neighborhood as colors of red and blue flash beneath
the night sky. The police sergeant approaches the body and checks for a pulse, then proceeds to perform CPR at 7:21 pm for 6 minutes. Firefighters
and EMS arrive at 7:27 pm to continue the efforts of resuscitation. At 7:30 pm Trayvon Martin was pronounced dead. On the night of February 26th,
2012 Gorge Zimmerman, on patrol for the neighborhood watch, pursued Trayvon Martin, a 17–year–old African American teenager, because he felt
that he looked like a "real suspicious guy". Several minutes later an altercation took place between the two and Trayvon Martin, armed with an

What the vigilante committees did back in the old west was an honorable and brave most people today would think you're crazy to join a committee to

Superheroes and vigilantes Superheroes, everyone knows them as the ones who fly or run around defeating the villains, then there are the vigilantes
who like to keep their actions in the dark. These two groups have always been confused with one another and there really is not a clear difference in
their goals. However, there are many differences in the way they will reach them. They protect the world in many different ways, and they leave people
in admiration.
In the case of superheroes, they have the upper hand due to the fact of their powers or superpowers. Most of the superheroes have one power, but
there are a few exceptions to this such as: Superman, Wonder Woman, and Spiderman. Usually superheroes gain their powers from an accident or their
powers are hereditary. On the other hand, some are born with mutations in their genetic code that allow them to do some things most people cannot.
The superheroes usually have one main villain or supervillain the just never seems to leave them alone. Some examples ... Show more content on

This group tends to avoid help unless they know they will need it. Most vigilantes fight for vengeance of a family member or close friend. Most of
the time, this person comes from a substantial amount of family money. Trained by someone with a many years of experience, these people most
likely will know martial arts or many fighting styles to help take down their foes. They will also learn various tactics for finding a way to take down
large criminal organizations in a short period of time. Once they get into battling more powerful foes or find someone of value to their efforts they
will form a team usually consisting of: a tech maintenance geek, a sidekick, and someone they can call if they need them. Some good examples of a
vigilante are: The Huntress, Batman, Green Arrow, Punisher, and many

Arrow And The Flash Character Analysis

  • 1. Arrow And The Flash Character Analysis In contrast, the love interest of Barry Allen, Iris West, is a woman of color that has ambitious and leadership qualities establishing that women in general and women of color can be respected and achieve success through diversity in these TV shows. However, Iris, a high achiever, places herself in dangerous situations when completing her job as a journalist, puts her character in the damsel in distress stereotype as Barry often saves her when she is in trouble. This establishes to the viewer that women are always going to need a man supporting them in times of need, which negatively affects female viewers and their own self–esteem as some female adolescents struggle with their problems of being restricted in leadership roles along with meeting... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These depictions lead female adolescents and peoples of color to perceive themselves as useful but not important in society which causes them to interact and behave differently with others. While these characters have many positive qualities, they are shoved into stereotypical and archetypical boxes that reduces their worth to the viewers. The female characters provide strong examples of women towards young viewers but are followed up with a reason why the female character should be put in a corner. The characters of color have noble intentions and are respected but pushed to the sidelines when their cause gets show time by the male protagonists. Thus, while these characters do provide positive and influential examples to adolescent viewers, the characters have easily definable qualities that can negatively affect the viewers. As such, young viewers can follow either the vigilantism or heroism route since they are impressionable by huge media figures. This suggests that directors and creators of superhero television shows should diversify their cast with a purpose to express that women and minorities can break social barriers and are important to ... • 3. The Vigilante Did NOT Achieve Justice In Film The idea of vigilante justice is popular in books, on television, and in movies, I don't think justice is achieved if the vigilant died afterwards. For example in, "And then there were none", the vigilante ends up also dying at the end. It's a lose lose situation. Instead of achieving justice and killing all the "murderers" he a became a murder himself. The three reasons i think he did not achieve justice are, first of all to achieve justice he wouldn't have died he would've wanted the attention for what he did "right". Second of all, I believe that most of the people he killed were innocent. Lastly, justice was not achieved because justice is another way of saying fair,, as in playing fair.. Which is the exact opposite of what justice ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Vigilantes: Cleaning Out The Wound Essay Do you believe in vigilantism? Do you believe in criminals and outlaws being punished for their crimes in the name of justice? What if you knew someone who was so close to you, you would do whatever it took to find those responsible for the pain they caused and punish them in the name of justice. Would you walk down the path of avigilante and help bring about an end to their tyranny? Vigilantism can be looked at ascrime if you look at it in a negative way, or it can be looked at in a positive way. Many vigilantes help make the world a better place every day by doing away with the evil people in this world who kidnap, rape, murder, and loot people in the streets. Vigilantism is justified because the vigilantes help make the world a better ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Neo– vigilantism includes many different varieties of vigilantism such as neighborhood crime and subway patrols, border security groups, and also bounty hunters who can sometimes be hired to catch wanted criminals and fugitives for a price. A group called the Guardian Angels was formed in February 1979 in the Bronx and these were vigilantes who looked after the people in the subway carts of New York. When they spotted trouble or anyone in danger, they would intervene and help resolve the situation. The Guardian Angels is still around today and is a much decorated vigilance committee and has been acknowledged by the president on several occasions. In the 1980s, vigilantism began to spring up in many places, especially in Third World countries in the form of Death squad paramilitaries. A new kind of vigilantism was brought about in the 1990s and it was known as cyber– vigilantism. Cyber– vigilantism was composed of people who go after sexual predators, terrorists, and copyright infringers on the internet. The history of vigilantism has made many appearances throughout American history and has played a major role on many occasions. Many criminals, outlaws, and terrorists have been carless and found themselves in the clutches of vigilantes across the United States. • 5. Utilitarian Ethics In Vigilantes In any event, motives and consequences are two different factors that place a judgement on a course of action. Motive is the influence of choices and actions which is characterized as an input; whereas, the output would be the consequence or result of the actions. Furthermore, there are limitations to both of the concepts because motives are interchangeable due to various circumstances. For consequences, it cannot be precisely be determined by contemplation. Thus, motives are more suitable in answering the question– Should we judge actions by motives or consequences– because there are reasonable explanations and the choices that one makes is the reason why one is human. According to the Ten Commandments, killing is unacceptable and unnecessary; however, killing can be ethical if motives are reasonable. In the film Arrow, vigilantism is considered as an unjustified activity because the act of killing criminals demonstrates the dominance over the authority of the police. As a result, the purpose of anti–vigilante task force is to limit the power and activity of vigilantes; however, the creators of the film utilizes utilitarian ethics to lessen the tone of fear of the deaths of criminals. Utilitarian ethics is judged by the notion of the "the greatest happiness for the greatest number"; thus, the role of vigilantes in the films is to protect the happiness of the innocent lives by eliminating the people who are causing harm. Therefore, the vigilante, Oliver Queen, is utilizing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This quote explains a vigilante trying to stop two young men who were caught doing something illegal. The vigilante then killed one of the men for their crime. Most people consider this act of brashness to be cruel and immature. They like to do their crimes in secret with sometimes letting only a few people know, but this act won't last so long with vigilantes. When there are more vigilantes roaming around the property criminals get frightened. Vigilantes can ward off criminals, because if the criminals know the vigilantes are out there to catch them, they know there is less people to trust and more to be discreet about. This action would make it see like there is twice the times of police and security. • 7. Understanding Vigilante Justice The use of vigilante justice is illegal but, at times it can be understood. Vigilante justice is considered legal when dealing with it as self–defense.. The term vigilante justice means someone has gone outside the law to carry out a punishment for a crime. In other words vigilante justice means that a citizen has taken justice into their own hands. One of the defining elements of vigilantism is a response that involves violence that exceeds the legitimate use of force in self–defense. These people who take justice into their own hands are called a vigilante. "Our legal system does not permit vigilante justice" (Grisham 137). Self–defense, though, is the only type of vigilante justice that is legal because it is one of the rights written in the constitution. It is considered legal because self–defense is one of the rights given to American citizens in the Constitution."Our legal system also cannot condone men who take the law into their own hands". This means that the government cannot over look a case of vigilante justice because it will cause problems in our society. The legal system also cannot over look it because the society cannot have people just running around with guns shooting other people who did them wrong. The world would be chaos if that was allowed to happen because everyone would be taking justice into their own hands because they are unhappy with the outcome of the case. Most of the time the act of vigilante justice is taken because the legal system isn't ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

George Washington University, pg. 57 –66 Rising in the late 1980s the 'vigilante spirit' as explain by Justin Mann was brought upon by the regularity of "crime and unending hostility" (Mann) that plagued the streets on New York. It was in this time graphic novelist Frank Miller sought to captivate his audience in a "more realistic" (Miller) representation of New York which was the model for Batman's 'Gotham City'. The vigilante spirit presented during this time coincided with a sense of "color–blind racism" (Alexander 2012; Bonilla Silva 2014) that was built on the fear of 'white–city dwellers' being vulnerable to minority crime. Disregarding the obvious extreme of this which includes psychopathic murders, Weis claims there are varying ranges of 'subtle conditions'. This addiction of subtle conditions can play into Bruce's alternate identity by swearing to avenge his parent's death and "rid Gotham of crime" (Origins). Bruce Channels this almost profound responsibility into his alter ego Batman which creates an image of superior stature. Weis confirms the logic by stating as one grows spiritually "development allows us to realize our full potential behind the innocence and loss of the child we once were". (Weis??) • 9. Justice And Justice In Roscoe Pound's A Theory Of Justice III. JUSTICE WITH AND WITHOUT LAW Legal films narrate stories that have been made dramatic by invoking the audience's sense of justice and injustice. Since the early Greek tragedies, justice– betrayed or denied, sought and vindicated, has been a central element of drama . But what does justice truly mean? Rawls (in his A Theory of Justice) equates 'justice' with fairness, while Dworkin (in Justice for Hedgehogs) talks of justice encompassing equality, liberty and most importantly being inseparable from law. More recently, Roscoe Pound (in his Justice According to Law) highlights the possibility of both – justice with law and justice without law. Pound states that there was justice even before the law came into being, and even now, the laws are amended or moulded for every unique situation that presents itself to the system. So, while a certain measure of justice may be achieved by following the law since it is uniform, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... People who take justice into their own hands.Though vigilantism is common in the annals of history, and the kingdom of literature/arts, there are few who truly define what it means to be a vigilante. Wilhelm Tauber and Bruce Wayne are two of those few. 16 –year–old Wilhelm "Wilm" Tauber lives in Leipzig, Soviet–occupied East Germany, in 1947. Living with his bitter, unipedal accountant father who has a death wish, his hardworking mother, and his traumatised sister Anneliese, who was raped by four Schutzpolizei (Schupos). At night, with the help of his friends Karl, Georg and Ruth, Wilm humiliates his Soviet oppressors as the Marionette Wolverine. One night, he throws a live grenade in a barrack which he thought was empty, only to be met by the screams of the soldiers sleeping. Now a fugitive, he escapes to U.S occupied West Germany with his friends and sister. Meanwhile in Gotham, U.S.A, billionaire Bruce Wayne has taken up the mantle of Batman to cleanse his city of crime. The purpose of my research is to investigate the masculinity of the vigilante and how it hinges on their use of violence and sexuality. The three heroes I will analyze Dr. Manhattan, Rorschach, and Nite Owl. Each portrays their masculinity through sexuality and violence differently. To accurately understand the concepts aforementioned, it is imperative the reader look to the gutter of the comic. The gutter as defined by Scott McCloud is when the "Human imagination takes two separate images and transforms them into a single idea" (McCloud 66). In his chapter "blood in the gutter" McCloud explains, violence often happens inside the gutter to protect reader's sensibility. However, violence is not the only thing that happens in the gutter, anything deemed perhaps too risquГ© also happens in the gutter. Therefore, much of the character's sexuality will also take place in the gutter. Readers must use their imagination to create closure from the gaps that the gutter leaves. When the gutter is taken into consideration most of what defines a hero's masculinity takes place there. The first character I want to discuss is Dr. Manhattan and how his sexuality and use of violence play into his performance of masculinity. Dr. Manhattan cannot understand the human conceptions of sexuality or the true repercussions of violence; therefore, he uses the ideology of society to go ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Silent Film Within Our Gates In 1920, Oscar Micheaux directed the silent film Within Our Gates which conducts an in–depth examination of race relations and discrimination within the United States. One of the outcomes of the film is a blatant failure of justice resulting in the lynching of an African American couple, The Landrys. Seemingly, time has not altered the inherent absence of justice concerning the treatment of Black men and women in situations where criminal activity is suspected, legitimately or otherwise. Evidence is found with the killings of Eric Garner, Michael Brown, Tamir Rice, and many other Black victims who died at the hands of police who are tasked with upholding justice and fail to do so. However, what was the popular sentiment toward failure within the legal system between 1920 and 2015? Bruce Wayne–also known as Batman–is Gotham's vigilante who, from a young age, has had a personal vendetta against criminals after witnessing the fatal armed robbery of his parents. The guilt Bruce feels for the death of his mother and father suggests that his motives are not solely righteous or just, but vengeful (Nolan, "Batman Begins", 2005). But while the corruption of Gotham, the law enforcement, and Batman may seem fictitious, vigilantism is a real–life societal issue. In Arizona and Mexico, vigilante groups fight against the Mexican cartels because the government either fails to take action, or is corrupt itself. However, these vigilante groups can in turn become corrupt as well ("Amid Mexico's Drug Wars, Vigilante Groups Are Taking The Law Into Their Own Hands", 2015). Richard Friedman 's Seminal Work, Crime And Punishment Essay Several themes emerge from the course Frontier Justice that match well with the major themes in Lawrence Friedman's, seminal work, Crime and Punishment in American History. His main thesis is that judgements about crime and what to do about it come from a specific time and place. Part of his work addresses the history of criminal justice in which he calls, the history of power. He identifies the relationship between crime, criminal justice and American culture. When one looks at the frontier West and its dynamics, one can see how those in power bent and at times broke the law in order to achieve their aims. Culture played an important role in many part of the West which was a far different culture than the one found in the East. This different culture resulted from the dynamics of Westward expansion and had dramatic role in shaping the West. Certainly, the frontier West can be described as both a time and place. Many have romanticized views of what the West was like. The historian Robert Utley wrote, "historical reality lies somewhere between the extremes". As one examines everything in between, what emerges from the comparison of Friedman's work and that of frontier justice, is a question of what were the causes of violence in the West. The vigilante is one that believes that they are above the law and that the law is inadequate. This idea that the law is inadequate or unjust stems from Henry Thoreau's Civil Disobedience. The subject of this poem is that there is a lynching going on and the tree is affected by the actions. The theme of this poem is that terror but not to a person but to thing. There was a lot of forms of diction in this poem. For example, there was connotation when he said "And why, when I go through the shade you throw runs a shudder over me" (Dunbar). That line also gave the reader imagery by using the word shudder, a person can physically see someone physically shuddering. The tone of this poem was a somber one. It just gives the reading bad feeling for the tree at the end of the poem. This poem is unique because it is told from the tree's perspective. Dunbar gave the tree feelings, this can be seen here "I feel the rope against my bark against my bark". The theme of the poem is terror because the tree has conveyed emotions that make it seems that he was emotionally scarred by this event. This can be seen in the line "For I feel his curse as a haunted bough on the trunk of a haunted tree". Also, the way that the tree describes the event as a whole brings a sense of terror. For example, in the line "I feel in the throne of his final woe the touch of my own pain. This not say that the victim who is being lynched is taking his last breath so does the tree. This also can be perceived that the tree and the victim are interconnected, as their souls both leave the earth at the same time. Animist may believe that the line is of terror because the lynches ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

That's the thing about vigilantes, the police agree with them. What's a few druggies in the grave? At least they're off the streets, right? They're all guilty of something, right? It's better than thousands of the tax payer's money to put them in jail. The mere notion sickened Danny. Everyone deserves justice. Vengeance does not belong in the judicial system. In a crime scene there are a lot of details. Some details are crucial, and must be recorded by themselves, while others are only important with something else by its side. There were never any unimportant details. Few people knew that, and of those that did, fewer actually performed with that doctrine. People often unknowingly skipped over details that they found to be tedious or inconsequential without even realizing. Loren never did this. It was this reason that he was employed. • 29. Batman Vigilante Essay Is Batman a Vigilante or a Hero? In the world of superheroes, there are many that believe they are heroes, while in actuality, they are merely vigilantes. This is most prominently seen in Batman. Batman presents himself as a hero, while he is only an over imaginative vigilante. He is more a vigilante than a hero because he has the ability to stop crime but doesn't, he only does things for his own benefit, and he helps the law but isn't part of it. These are only a few ways Batman is a vigilante, instead of a hero. These are mainly based upon the idea of him trying to hard to right his own past. While Batman was still Bruce Wayne, his parents were killed by a soon to be supervillain, this caused him to have an alternative motive to become a "hero." Batman might seem like he is doing what hero is supposed to do, but he is merely trying to avenge his parents death. " Police are perplexed, worried the group will turn into vigilantes and doubt that the superhero policy is ever stopped any crime," (source A). This is the same with Batman; the police do not know what to make of him but are worried that he will get himself in trouble. Batman might seem like he is doing things for others, yet he does them for himself. Though Batman tries to be portrayed as a hero, he is only a vigilante because he helps the law, but is not a part of it. This means that he goes around fighting crime, but is not a member of the police force or other civil duties that go around vanquishing crime. While he wants to be acknowledged as a hero that saves the day and is praised for his work he only gets in the way of actual civil officers who are trying to do their jobs. • 30. Examples Of Vigilante In American Movies My paper is going to be about the phenomenon of the vigilante in American movies. Thesis: The reason the hero who "takes the law into his own hands" is so popular in America is that our culture contains a strange mix of respect for other's rights and a need for revenge and violence. My first section will describe the vigilante heroes of a number of movies, including the Charles Bronson "Death Wish" movies, the Clint Eastwood "Dirty Harry" series, Sylvester Stallone's "Rambo" films and some more current examples. I will note the similarity of the heroes. After this I will talk about how clearly this goes against the American tradition of due process and the respect for life we say that we have in America. • 31. Heroic Act Of Vigilance Justified? Where is the line drawn between a citizen performing a heroic act of vigilance and a vigilant citizen committing a serious crime? Or is there ever such a thing as a good vigilant crime? Vigilance or Vigilantism is the act of taking matters into your own hands, not consulting the authorities and dealing with the 'problem' at hand in their own ways. However, there are serious consequences to this form of justice, and for what? To prove a point? to show how corrupt the world really is? Or is it simply a case of revenge on someone who has done you wrong? In the end are these acts of vigilance really justified? or is the large following they receive a little deceiving when it comes to whether or not they are really morally okay? Vigilance has... Making people think it's acceptable to act unjustly does not have to go through large proportion now a days, they just have to post it on social media and if they get a big following, that's it no more control, its "trending" it's "cool" people want to fit in they want to dissolve into the background and seem normal so they like to follow what is most popular so they don't seem like an outsider they seem popular and they seem as though they are perfect this encourages anything the media deems cool or 'hot' is what they are posting about and vigilante crimes are no exception to this, they get a fallowing behind whatever they acted out against and even worse they have people acting out and doing the same, following a misguided example. Why is vigilante unjust? There is no simple answer to this and there never will be because, each act of vigilance has positives and negatives that go along with it, it shows the courage of society members although it also goes to show that sometimes this sign of a good society crumbles so easily, if given to much power or freedom. if vigilance can prove the same fate for both something that starts as a good deed and something that begins with tragedy than i believe it is safe to say that vigilante can not be justified under any ... • 32. Vigilantism In Criminal Justice As a whole, society has mixed sentiments regarding vigilantism. However, society, for the most part, has a preconceived notion that vigilante based justice consists of some superhero taking action into their own hands to stop the "bad guys". Vigilantism should not be confused with a personal duty to investigate crimes happening within one self's personal community. According to The Free Dictionary, vigilante refers to "a person who is not a member of law enforcement but who pursues and punishes persons suspected of lawbreaking." Within this definition alone lies the three biggest problems with vigilantism. First, the individual is not a trained professional within law enforcement, therefore; they generally do not know how to properly conduct ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Vigilante based justice is by no means justice. In essence, vigilantism strips people of their constitutional and legal rights. If vigilantism was allowed, suspected lawbreakers would have no presumption of innocence. Another right that would be lost would the right to have procedural due process. In addition to the rights being lost, a vigilante will often carry a bias and/ or they do not have law enforcement training. With the absence of training, the vigilante will more than likely detain the suspected law breaker in a harmful way, and the vigilante does not know how to properly screen a suspected law breaker to collect facts. All of this being said, vigilantism does not provide suspected law breakers with adequate resources and time to fight any allegations. For a moment place yourself in someone's shoes that has been wrongly accused of murder. Without any hesitation, one of the family members of the deceased was allowed to murder you because of the preconceived notion that you had killed his/her family member. This is what vigilantism looks like and why it is not acceptable. The possibility of false accusation leading to wrongly punishing an individual should alone deter you from thinking vigilantism is good. Several national magazines recently ran alarming stories about the epidemic of criminal and group violence. Rolling Stone in "A Pistol–Whipped Nation" and both Time and Newsweek ran alarming cover stories about the "virtual epidemic of youth violence." Newsweek's "Teen Violence: Wild in the Streets," decried the number of young people carrying guns, using them, being shot, and being killed. Accompanying all this was a casual if not blase attitude indicating that, as one expert quoted in Time put it, "Violence is hip right now." Several weeks later, Time was back again, in wake of President Clinton's crime bill and the murder of Michael Jordan's father, with another cover story, "America the Violent: Crime is spreading and patience is running out." The writers argued America was in a crime wave characterized by wild violence that was moving into the suburbs, into hospitals, malls, and McDonald's. According to UCLA criminologist James Q. Wilson, our cyclical rise in crime and violence will get worse as baby boomer babies get older. • 35. Argumentative Essay On Vigilantes Vigilantes are undertaking the task of the police in handling the issue. Berehulak noted, "J.R. [the drug victim's eldest son] said the man in the helmet said, "Goodbye, my friend," before shooting his father [Crisostomo Diaz, 51] in the chest. His body sank, but the man shot him twice more, in the head and cheeks. The children said the three men were laughing as they left." A laugh that stands for finding joy in killing people reveals that the vigilantes bloodlust and nonchalant attitude towards killing. These set of circumstances evidently exhibit the intention of destroying a man's right. Although the vigilantes are vindicated by their own deeds, the actions that they had shown is inhumane. Not only do they murder the pitiful sufferers of this war, but they treat these individuals as if they are animals. In addition to clarify this case, Berehulak also said that some bodies were found on the streets with their heads wrapped in packing tape. Others were left with crude cardboard signs labeling victims as dealers or addicts. They did this to a dead body just to humiliate and remove the decency of a person. This reveals they do not pity or show compassion towards these victims. Moreover, it is an awfully shameful fate that a person can have. That is why vigilantes shouldn't be slaughtering individuals with their own hands. Rather they should inform the police officials to take over the mission that are appointed to them. The extrajudicial killings of the authority becomes murder. According to the article "Crackdown on drugs in the Philippines involves extrajudicial killings" by David Laconangelo, "About 800 of the deaths came at the hands of police during anti–drug operations, with the rest occurring under as yet unknown circumstances,"(15&16) This statistic report is from June 2016 to September 2016. The amount of deaths that the police had committed for only three months seems very alarming and leave other people into a suspicion of a dishonorable act. Anything that are not proven by the officials in being a user or seller of drugs to killing them is considered unjustifiable. Negative Effects Of Vigilantism Vigilantism: A Waste Of Life A body lays face down in the grass, police sirens echo through the neighborhood as colors of red and blue flash beneath the night sky. The police sergeant approaches the body and checks for a pulse, then proceeds to perform CPR at 7:21 pm for 6 minutes. Firefighters and EMS arrive at 7:27 pm to continue the efforts of resuscitation. At 7:30 pm Trayvon Martin was pronounced dead. On the night of February 26th, 2012 Gorge Zimmerman, on patrol for the neighborhood watch, pursued Trayvon Martin, a 17–year–old African American teenager, because he felt that he looked like a "real suspicious guy". Several minutes later an altercation took place between the two and Trayvon Martin, armed with an Arizona tea and bag of skittles, was shot and killed by Zimmerman. This controversial case ignited a series of violent protests and created the black lives matter movement. The shooting of Trayvon Martin is one of the most famous cases of vigilantism. Had George Zimmerman listened to directions of the first respondent and remained in his vehicle instead of pursuing Trayvon the whole situation could have easily been avoided, and the life of an innocent teenager would not have been taken.
