The End of Easy Everything
One of the major issues in global affairs today consists of the supply of energy and other minerals
and commodities. Michael Klare in "The End of Easy Everything" argues that the transformation
from an effortless to a more resilient resource period will be expensive. Looking at the state of the
supply of energy oil and natural gas today, I tend to agree with the findings as presented by Michael
Klare.
Klare explores contentious issues in which easily obtained supplies are terminating. Particularly,
companies that deal in such resources must turn to the more difficult methods to extract sources of
oil, natural gas, and various minerals. This has led to controversial methods such as deep–water oil
wells, hydrofracking for natural gas and other energy sources. Also, the acid fracking for copper:
which some environmentalists maintain that these methods cause environmental damage and should
not be permitted.
Klare argues that discovery of a natural resource, for instance, oil, result to producers seeking and
exploiting the most desirable, best quality and those closest to markets. Over time, these resources
become scarce, of poorer quality, harder to extract and extend into the further away area from the
market hence need for discovery of other means of obtaining the resource. These means may cause

On June 29, 1934, FDR issued an Executive Order creating a cabinet level Committee on Economic
Security to prepare legislation for Congress. He appointed Frances Perkins as its Chair. On January
15, 1935 the Committee on Economic Security presented its final report to President Roosevelt. Two
days later, FDR unveiled the Social Security program and sent it to Congress. On August 14th 1935,
the president signed the Social Security Act. "Later that day, the Washington Post proclaimed that
the Social Security Act was the "New Deal's Most Important Act...Its importance cannot be
exaggerated ...because this legislation eventually will affect the lives of every man, woman, and

Americans, and although it has been changed numerous of times, a change which FDR and Perkins

Yes! Greater independence from foreign oil would be a positive, and yes, cleaner air is good for
your health, and most certainly, everyone loves lower gas prices. According to a spokesman from
Pinnacle, a Halliburton service company, "In the more than 60 years following those first treatments,
more than two million fracturing treatments have been pumped with not one documented case of
any treatment polluting an aquifer – not one."("Shooters–A Fracking History"). This statement may
lead you to believe there is no need for concern, but there is a big pink elephant in the room.
Arguments against these statements would prove futile, at a first glance, but understanding the true
cost, to the environment and our safety could prove more valuable than the money earned. The

Edward Roberts, in November of 1866, during the civil war. Robert's idea, dubbed "Exploding
Torpedo", involved dropping artillery rounds down a well, filling it with water, to concentrate the

People that do not live on the Westside of El Paso may have a hard time navigating to this restaurant

Commodity Futures Trade Commission, wanted the CFTC to oversee the financial derivatives but

famous words coined by Edward Bulwer–Lytton. Rachael Carson's Silent Spring totally justifies the
purpose of the metaphor word by word. Although they always get the critical judgments and are less
celebrated, books sometimes bear the most significant role in changing the social atmosphere.
Rachael Carson's Silent Spring, which was published on 1962, exposed the potential of chemical
hazards of the pesticides like DDT. It slammed the truth in front of the people, questioned the human
faith in technologies and helped on to start an environmental movement bigger than ever. Carson's
love of nature coupled with love of writing and poetry made the Silent Spring possible. Her
determination and courage to make the people aware on chemical industry and its products actually
gave the boost to the success of the book and it raised an important point about the extent of the
human's impact on nature. The book Silent Spring provides us an effective descriptive ecological
view of the nature which is beautifully described in precisely complex, yet poetic language. It took
four years for the completion of the book but the result was marvelous and also was important to

The area of greatest concern and threat is Illinois Beach State Park which boarders the
contamination site to the North. This is a concern as asbestos can cause cancer if the fibers are
inhaled. Asbestos is less dangerous in water supplies although the site run–off at one point was 3
times the EPA's limit. The EPA continues to monitor and improve the site. After the main site
contamination were remediated, secondary excavation and capping projects have taken place over
the years to continue to clean the site for future re–development as shown in the image below.
