The End of Easy Everything
One of the major issues in global affairs today consists of the supply of energy and other minerals
and commodities. Michael Klare in "The End of Easy Everything" argues that the transformation
from an effortless to a more resilient resource period will be expensive. Looking at the state of the
supply of energy oil and natural gas today, I tend to agree with the findings as presented by Michael
Klare.
Klare explores contentious issues in which easily obtained supplies are terminating. Particularly,
companies that deal in such resources must turn to the more difficult methods to extract sources of
oil, natural gas, and various minerals. This has led to controversial methods such as deep–water oil
wells, hydrofracking for natural gas and other energy sources. Also, the acid fracking for copper:
which some environmentalists maintain that these methods cause environmental damage and should
not be permitted.
Klare argues that discovery of a natural resource, for instance, oil, result to producers seeking and
exploiting the most desirable, best quality and those closest to markets. Over time, these resources
become scarce, of poorer quality, harder to extract and extend into the further away area from the
market hence need for discovery of other means of obtaining the resource. These means may cause
several problems, which may include;

Frances Perkins Influence On Women
Frances Perkins was one of the most influential women of the twentieth century, yet she is not really
a house hold name. Perkins was named Secretary of Labor by Franklin Roosevelt in 1933. As the
first Female Cabinet secretary, she spearheaded the fight to improve the lives of American working
people. Perkin's ideas became the cornerstone of the most important social welfare legislation in the
nation's history, including unemployment compensation, child labor laws, the forty hour work week,
and Social Security. Born Fannie Coralie Perkins in Boston, Massachusetts in 1880, Frances Perkins
came from a respectable upper middle–class republican family. By 1882, her parents Frederick and
Susan moved to Worcester, Massachusetts ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On June 29, 1934, FDR issued an Executive Order creating a cabinet level Committee on Economic
Security to prepare legislation for Congress. He appointed Frances Perkins as its Chair. On January

days later, FDR unveiled the Social Security program and sent it to Congress. On August 14th 1935,
the president signed the Social Security Act. "Later that day, the Washington Post proclaimed that
the Social Security Act was the "New Deal's Most Important Act...Its importance cannot be
exaggerated ...because this legislation eventually will affect the lives of every man, woman, and
child in the country" (fdlibrary.edu). This Act today has secured the economic status of many
Americans, and although it has been changed numerous of times, a change which FDR and Perkins
knew was bound to occur with passing years. Its change has only being to, Lawrence O'Donnell,
"preserve the long–term solvency of Social Security as a self–financing system." The program has
being the setting stone of other social programs such as Medicare.
Among other important programs that were added to the New Deal was another one which today is
being debated to be increased. This Act is none other than the Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938,
another New deal initiative that was among her list

An Article From The Claremont Institute Recovering The...
This is a critique of an article from the Claremont Institute Recovering the American Idea, A Golf
Story, By: Thomas D. Klingenstein, Posted: April 17, 2011, this article appeared in: Vol. XI,
Numbers 1 & 2 – Winter/Spring 2010/11. Barry Mills, the president of Bowdoin College, in his
assembly address raised an imperative worry, he said, various parents are unwilling to send their
kids to Bowdoin or to its sister schools in light of the fact that they are seen to be excessively liberal,
and too withdrawn with standard America. To do this he recounted a golf anecdote about the article
's writer. The article's writer defends himself against statements he says he never said. The writer
according to Mills states, "I would never support ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In general, he took Mill 's golf story to be a withdrawal of his expressed longing to expand the
differing qualities of perspectives on grounds. Expressing that Mills continued in this withdrawing
manner all through his location: first saying that the absence of assorted qualities of perspectives on
grounds is an issue, then actually presuming that it wasn 't generally an issue all things considered.
The author points out that Mill's admits that Bowdoin is a liberal school, and that they need more
diversity however the author does not think Mills has an answer to the problem pointing out more
contradictions that Mr. Mills makes. The author then empowers Mills and the Bowdoin family to
consider important their objective of expanding the assorted qualities of perspectives on grounds.
The writer's fundamental purpose of this article was that Mills doesn 't have the response to the
absence of scholarly assorted qualities at Bowdoin. The writer contended that there was insufficient
celebration of our regular American personality. He contended against ideological consistency, on
the grounds that it deprived students of the intellectual diversity for the advancement of critical
thinking. He contends that Bowdoin has various courses that deal with some group aspect of
America, yet for all intents and purposes none that deals with America all in all. That the school

A Model Of Sustained Economic Growth
WRITE UP(DRAFT)
The intention is to develop a model where sustained economic growth is the product of the
alternation of numerous agents and this literature will provide insights to reasons for variations in
Gdp growth during the recessionary period(2008–2013) in Europe while investigating the
optimising agents which had significant impact on Gdp growth rate. The Solow growth(1956)
hypothesis looked for the determinants of sustainable economic development in per capita gross
domestic product. The model recognized three principal drivers of long term development ie:
Increase in collection of capital stock, Technological Innovation and rise in quality of labour force

Advocates of Agricultural–led development argue that investment in agriculture and the
complementary growth in the creation of structures and foundations in various zones is vital for
national economic advancement (Schultz, 1964; Timmer, 1995, 2002). These investigators observe
that improvement in the cultivating division could be a stimulus for growth in national output by its
effect on rural wages and acquirement of benefits for change into an industrialized economy (
Dowrick and Gemmell, 1991; Datt, and Ravallion, 1998; Thirtle, Lin, and Piesse, 2003). Earlier
endeavors by different developing countries to industrialize their economy without earlier
advancement of the farming part brought about bleak financial development rates and exceptionally
skewed wage dispersion (Bhagwati and Srinivasan, 1975).
Manufacturing growth:
The manufacturing sector assumes a vital part of financial development in both developed and
developing nations(Adugna, 2014). there is a solid causal connection between the development of
manufacturing sector and the growth in GDP (Pacheco–López and Thirlwall, 2013). The connection
between the manufacturing growth and gdp growth is referred to as Kaldor 's first growth law.
(Pacheco–López and Thirlwall,2013).According to Kaldor (1966),manufacturing has qualities which
make it the motor of economic development for two principle reasons. Firstly, manufacturing is

The Politics and Economics of FDA Drug Approval Essay
The Politics and Economics of FDA Drug Approval
The United Sates Food and Drug Administration has been protecting American consumers for
around 70 years. The FDA assures the safety drugs, medical devices, chemicals, cosmetics, foods
and additives by evaluating products for approval. Controversy has recently been surrounding the
FDA's drug approval process, due to a general trend to get pharmaceuticals on the market more
quickly. The FDA has been under pressure from congress and the public to speed approval, but
pharmaceutical companies, who benefit more than anyone form accelerated drug approval, have also
been applying pressure to the FDA through congress. The speeding of the approval process helps

The Radiation Control for Health and Safety Act guarantees consumers protection from excess
radiation in certain devices. Lastly, The Public Health Service Act expanded the FDA's authority to
cover serums and vaccines and also justified the inspections of restaurants (Food and Drug
Administration [Britannica]). The FDA is adjusting to a switch in leader ship since Jane Heney,
previously the FDA's deputy commissioner of operations, was nominated in June 1998. Heney, the
first woman to head the FDA, has a packed resume that includes a vice presidency of the University
of New Mexico and a specialization in cancer research. Her strategy for the future of the FDA
includes the enforcement of new federal laws to modernize the FDA and addressing concerns about
drug safety and approval speed, as well as controlling food contamination (Davis 5D). The FDA
requires pharmaceutical companies to conduct years of research on their drugs before they begin the
actual process approval. Drug companies submit test results to the FDA to be reviewed by their
scientists; the FDA actually does no preliminary research on the drugs. In order to be approved, the
companies must prove to the FDA that each drug is safe and effective and that the benefits of the
drug must outweigh its side effects. The FDA has 800 to 900 employees involved in reviewing drugs
before they get to the market. After a drug is approved, the FDA researches by collecting and
analyzing thousands of reports each

Tsunamis: How Oregon Can Better Prepare for Cascadia Essay
Tsunami hazard assessment in Oregon started with an inundation simulation in the Siletz Bay.
Various parameters were tested with different inundation estimates and run–up from past tsunami
deposits (Priest, 2001, 55). Inundation maps were then created furthermore in the Oregon Building
Code, Oregon limited construction of new important or hazardous buildings in tsunami inundation
zones indicated by the inundation maps. Zones that these maps are based on use the Cascadia event
in 1700 as a "most likely" theoretical situation. The maps show 5 sizes of Cascadia events, ranked
like T–shirt sizes; S, M, L, XL, XXL, and two extreme tsunami events; magnitudes 8.7 and 9.2. The

Using paleoseismology, and stochastic area, prediction hazard maps have gotten more accurate and
have the potential to save a lot of lives. Another vital step for preparedness is setting up safe, reliable
warning systems and evacuation routes. Warning systems can potentially save more lives and cut
back on damage. There have been three great tsunamis that influenced the creation of tsunami
warning systems (Igarashi, 2011, 2044). After the 1946 Aleutian Islands tsunami caused deaths in
Hawaii, efforts began to develop a tsunami warning system (Igarashi, 2011, 2043). The tsunami in
Chile on May 22, 1960 turned the United State's warning system into an international system, and
the Indian Ocean tsunami on December 26, 2004 established a global tsunami warning system
(Igarashi, 2011, 2044). Reliable warning systems complement and further improve the ongoing
efforts made for tsunami preparedness. It is difficult to predict how much damage or loss of life a
tsunami can cause since tsunamis themselves are hard to predict (Yong, 2012, 1020), but a new
system of tsunami safety can be developed on the basis of lessons taught by past tsunamis (Igarashi,
2011, 2058). The development of new technology, new techniques, and more quality data allows
new warning systems to have faster, more accurate, and reliable detection of earthquakes and
tsunamis that can lead to the establishment of more accurate

Effects Of Fracking
Fracking or hydraulic fracturing is a mine stimulation technique that is taking the country by storm.
It is a multi–billion dollar industry and in some parts of the country there are so many wells
clustered together that they can be seen from space. The commodity being mined is natural gas.
Natural gas has earned itself many new names depending on who is asked. According to big gas
companies like Haiburton, it's America's solution to the energy crisis and a fuel for the 21st century.
They claim this current period of economic and energy prosperity is due to increased fracking.
However, this prosperity does not come without a cost. Many landowners, environmentalists, and
scientists claim the process is poisoning the air, ground, water, ... Show more content on

One of the biggest reasons is the irreversible damage the process has on the country and planet. In
order to receive this gas a trade has to be made. One non–renewable for another. Water for natural
gas and a lot of water. According to an infographic by StateImpact, the two to five day fracking
procedure for one well in Pennsylvania takes about 4.4 million gallons of water. 63% of which is
from lakes and streams and another 20% is bought from local water utilities. That is enough water to
fill six Olympic sized swimming pools. As stated earlier, the water they do recover has so much salt,
heavy metal, and chemicals that it can never be used again and must be pumped into class II
injection wells or taken to a recovery

A trial is a public event. What transpires in the court room is public property...There is no special

William O. Douglas, 19471

But regardless of which side one takes in the ongoing battle, it is difficult to deny that the electronic
media, through their very presence and operation, produce a marked if not adverse impact upon the
conduct and perception of those individuals in the courtroom.
The very concept of impartiality has been warped in recent years by the saturation coverage
provided by the electronic media; the public is bombarded with prejudicial information which
makes it increasingly difficult for high–profile defendants to receive anything resembling a fair trial.
Within the courthouse, the jury is made conscious of the scrutiny which will fall upon its ultimate
decision and is thus held hostage by an "accountability to the community,"3 while judges are forced
to preside over issues in media coverage as well as issues of trial law. Meanwhile lawyers are
compelled to try their cases in "the court of public opinion" just as vigorously as they must try them
in the courtroom.
And what of the defendant, kept under the constant and watchful eye of a camera trained to capture
every facial reaction, every shift in body language? For the accused, the pressures of a criminal or
civil proceeding can be consuming enough, without taking into account the added stress of public
scrutiny and

economic growth. Three different components were analyzed. The first is that the by using the
endogenous growth model to find the relationship between internal financial liberalization and
Gross Domestic Product (GDP) which is the theoretical components. The second portion includes an
empirical study by using panel data to verify the theoretical relationship between the Gross
Domestic Product (GDP) and financial liberalization and. It covers a sample of 15 developing
countries, enabling us to achieve three basic results. First, when the financial system is not
liberalized, we noted that it has a negative effect on the growth of foreign direct investment per
capita GDP. Second, when foreign direct investment is characterized implement them have a
positive effect on economic growth of its financial industry in developed countries. This means that

The Invention Of Our Modern Day Fracking
Yes! Greater independence from foreign oil would be a positive, and yes, cleaner air is good for
your health, and most certainly, everyone loves lower gas prices. According to a spokesman from
Pinnacle, a Halliburton service company, "In the more than 60 years following those first treatments,
more than two million fracturing treatments have been pumped with not one documented case of
any treatment polluting an aquifer – not one."("Shooters–A Fracking History"). This statement may
lead you to believe there is no need for concern, but there is a big pink elephant in the room.
Arguments against these statements would prove futile, at a first glance, but understanding the true
cost, to the environment and our safety could prove more valuable than the money earned. The
beginnings of our modern day fracking process reside in a U.S. Patent No. 59,936, issued to a Col.
Edward Roberts, in November of 1866, during the civil war. Robert's idea, dubbed "Exploding
Torpedo", involved dropping artillery rounds down a well, filling it with water, to concentrate the
concussion, thereby fracturing the surrounding rock, allowing for greater access to the gas or oil
below. (Hicks, "See an Exploding Torpedo"). This process has improved greatly and the
Environmental Protection Agency now refers to hydraulic fracking as the entire process, from the
gathering of water used until waste disposal. What was once thought to be cost prohibitive is now
more cost effective than ever. Once

Vaccination: A Clear Benefit A clear definition of a vaccination is, "the generic term for
immunization procedures. Immunization is a procedure whereby living or nonliving materials are
introduced into the body :" (Nosal, 1999) The concept that people who survive an infectious
disease do not get the same disease again is the basis for the administering of vaccinations. Vaccines
are normally given to healthy individuals for the prevention of diseases. Vaccines work by using a
human host to provide a stimulus to the immune system. Immunization is used for viral and

Without having first hand experience with these diseases, they seem like a myth rather than a reality.
Many parents, and physicians as well, lack knowledge and experiences with these diseases since
they are not exposed to them. In other cases, vaccinations are missed due to concerns about the
adverse reactions associated with vaccines. Other factors that may contribute to missed vaccinations
may be changing physicians or insurance issues. On a global level, the influenza vaccination in
children is recommended and strongly encouraged. These vaccinations are recommended for
children especially if they are to be exposed to a daycare or school environment because of the
potential for spreading infection. Unfortunately, the influenza vaccine is not administered as needed
because of the lack of education about the effectiveness and complications for physicians and
parents. Also, the vaccination is not always readily available. Many clinicians vary on there methods
and routines of administering the vaccine, although its proven effectiveness warrants a more
uniformed practice of delivery. Based on clinical studies, an increase of this vaccination is
recommended to protect against the complications and spread of influenza. The risks associated with
vaccines need to be taken seriously as they can have adverse side effects. According to Nossal, the
most controversial vaccine is the DPT shot. Reactions such as fever,

Chesterfield came up with a campaign that used the slogan, "Blow some my way." And Lucky
Strike hit the jackpot by urging women to "Reach for a Lucky instead of a sweet." In other words,
smoking Lucky Strikes was a good way for women to avoid gaining weight.
This was back in the 1870's and 80's, when it wasn't considered right for women to smoke, so the
advertising was directed specifically at men and boys.
It examined the links between adolescent smoking behavior and cigarette advertising.
According to the researchers, the Lucky Strike campaign resulted in "a rapid rise in sales, taking the
brand from sales of 13.7 billion cigarettes in 1925 to over 40 billion and market leadership by
1930." But by the mid–1960's it was no longer possible to hide the disastrous health effects of

Definition Of Agency Theory Corporate Governance Essay
Study (Wilkes, 2004) defines "good corporate governance is increasingly being seen as the hallmark
of a well–run company". According to the definition of Agency Theory corporate governance has an
effect upon organization performance. In light of Agency Theory, a potential governance problem is
incorporated into the corporate framework as a result of the partition of possession from control
(Davis, Schoorman, & Donaldson, 1997). Organization issues develop when the firms' managers
with the obligation of speaking to the proprietors ' best advantages, seeks after self–enthusiasm
rather that of the proprietor (Khongmalai, Tang, & Siengthai, 2009). As indicated (OECD, OECD
Principles OF CORPORATE GOVERNANCE, 2004) and the Cadbury Report (Cadbury
Committee, 1992) , good organization performance a consequence of good corporate governance.
The firm through focusing on stakeholder consider moral since it deals with all ingredients in a
similar way, giving a decent amount of benefits and weights, privileges and obligations to all
stakeholders (Alkhafaji, 1989). The stakeholder approach to deal with corporate governance is
likewise financially productive while firms consider the attentions of and create trust associations
with providers, customers, representatives, and groups can develop upper hands, which, thus,
prompt to unrivaled corporate performance (Svendsen, 1998). Studies (Wahal, 1996; Agrawal &

The Effect of Task Complexity on the Relation Between...
1. Introduction
In this study I want to look at the effect of task complexity on the relationship between team–based
incentives and performance. I will thus try to find whether task complexity is a moderating variable
in the relation between incentives and performance and specifically try to find whether this effect
differs for individual incentives and team incentives.
When looking at incentive contracts in management accounting literature, usually theories from the
field of economics and psychology are combined. In some circumstances these theories can lead to
quite opposing predictions of the effect of incentives on performance. In general incentive contracts
are a decision influencing control tool used to make sure that people's ... Show more content on

For example Lazear (2000) empirically finds in a manufacturing environment that pay for
performance increases productivity with 44%. On the other hand Bonner et al. (2000) find that only
in about 50 percent of the experiments they examined, financial performance led to improvements in
productivity. This thus means that the relationship between incentives and performance may be
dependent on the situational circumstances and they do not work in every environment. Specifically
in their review of experiments Bonner et al. (2000) find that when the complexity of the task
increases (relative to the skill of the participants), the likelihood of observing a positive effect of
incentives on performance decrease. Bailey and Fessler (2011) also find that monetary incentives
are more effective when the task is less complex. On the other hand in a review of empirical studies
on financial incentives and performance Jenkins et al. (1999) find that financial incentives are
generally related to output quantity but not to quality. Furthermore, they find task type is
independent of the relation between financial incentives and performance. If the performance on a
complex task is more difficult to measure, the agent's effort thus has less influence on the
performance measure (more noise, less sensitivity) and the measure is less effective.
All the above studies are concerned with individual incentives. Apart from research on individual
incentives there is also a lot

Difference Between Pirates And Pirates
To understand why men were more eager to join pirates than to pursue a legal employment in the
navy or aboard a merchant ship, it is important to understand the main differences between the three
forms of employment. Johnson remarked:
"I need not bring any proofs of what I advance, that there are multitudes o seamen at this day
unemploy'd; it is but too evident by their straggling, and begging all over the Kingdom. Nor is it so
much their Inclination to Idleness, as their own Fate, in being cast off after their work is done, to
starve or steal. I have not known a Man of War comission'd for several years past, but three times

No, a merry life and a short one, shall be my motto."
An average pirate sailed for several years before being forced to take a pardon, were walked to the
gallows, or got killed in action. Despite the grown risk of premature death, piracy had its sides.
Joining a pirate crew made a man a member of a tight community. As Marcus Rediker puts it,
"Pirates did not think themselves as common robbers, opposers and violatros of laws humane and
divine, but they did think themselves as people without nation." They were "a gang of proletariat
outlaws". Along with this sense of camaraderie, joining pirates opened a door to a world of "ready
money", democracy, healthcare, ethnic justice and equality, and better provisions of food and drink.
Contrary to the common image, pirate ships were well organized and functioned under set of rules

Homelessness with Mental Illnesses in Crisis
Building on Client's Strengths Roberts (2005) suggest for a crisis intervener to keep positive, instill
hope, and to assure the client that they are capable of overcoming the situation. He also recommends
says the client will be able to overcome later similar hazards easier once they overcome the current
crisis. Carling (1990) states people with mental illnesses have the power to make positive decisions
about choices in life. People who have mental illness and have substance abuse issues value dignity.
There problems do not exclude them from having a right to dignity. Unconditional positive regard is
valued among everyone. Barber (1995) recognizes the importance of treatment being individualized
with substance abuse clients. This student assumes this concept to be an axiom no matter what client
population is. In fact, each client would have their own unique strength to build on. A person who
has mental health and substance use problems from ACE would have resiliency the mental Health
professional could possibly utilize. In other words, a person who has experienced negative
childhood events would have developed abilities to use in other problem areas. Finding alternative
ways to use dysfunctional behavior in a functional way might be difficult. For example, helping the
client find other ways to relax than using substances would be keeping the behavior but using
different dynamics. Mental illness and substance use are often the healthy behaviors to problems.

Manhattan Project History
Development and History of the Atomic Bomb and The Manhattan Project
"My God, what have we done?" – Robert Lewis, the co–pilot of the Enola Gay, the B–29 that
dropped the first atomic bomb.
On August 2, 1939, just before the beginning of World War II, Albert Einstein wrote to then
President Franklin D. Roosevelt. Einstein and several other scientists told Roosevelt of efforts in
Nazi Germany to purify uranium–235, which could be used to build an atomic bomb. It was shortly
thereafter that the United States Government began the serious undertaking known then only as
"The Manhattan Project." Simply put, the Manhattan Project was committed to expediting research
that would produce a viable atomic bomb.

Even more astonishing is that a blind girl saw the flash 120 miles away.
Upon witnessing the explosion, its creators had mixed reactions. Isidor Rabi felt that the equilibrium
in nature had been upset –– as if humankind had become a threat to the world it inhabited. J. Robert
Oppenheimer, though ecstatic about the success of the project, quoted a remembered fragment from
the Bhagavad Gita. "I am become Death," he said, "the destroyer of worlds." Ken Bainbridge, the
test director, told Oppenheimer, "Now we're all sons of bitches."
After viewing the results several participants signed petitions against loosing the monster they had
created, but their protests fell on deaf ears. The Jornada del Muerto of New Mexico would not be the
last site on planet Earth to experience an atomic explosion.

Vaccination Of Children And Children
Vaccinations in Children Is it fair to not vaccinate children because we don't want to? Because they
do not need to and they will not get sick? No. It is not fair to not vaccinate children because they
won't get sick. By not vaccinating children you are doing others harm. Every child has a different
immune system and reacts to illnesses differently. Imagine having a child with disabilities and
having them around children that have not been vaccinated. With the poor immune system autistic
kids have they would be catching every disease possible. Autism is a condition typified by abnormal
qualitative development of social interactions, communication and imagination, with restricted and
repetitive interests and activities (Edward Purssell RGN, RSCN, PhD of the University of London).
What causes autism? Many parents like to say that the vaccination MMR has caused their child to
have autism later in life. Purssell and other authors and doctors have done countless research to find
out the truth about MMR and their being a link between the vaccine MMR and autism. On February
28, 1998, Andrew Wakefield, a gastroenterologist did a paper about eight children whose first
symptoms appeared after a month after they had received the MMR vaccine. All of those children
had signs of gastrointestinal disease. From what Wakefield observed, the MMR vaccine caused
intestinal inflammation, that lead to the blood stream and eventually to the brain where it affected
development. Backing this up,

Human Systems Paper 2
April 16, 2015 Free Market or Government Intervention
In the 21st century, human and technologies are inseparable. In past decades, there has been an
astonishing amount of development in modern world's technology. Nanotechnology is one of them.
This technology is based on nano–scale and it can be used in many different areas because of its
small sizes. (Metchis). However, there is a huge amount of uncertainties on the hazards of
nanomaterial due to lack of research in this field in real world applications. There is a lot of things
that need to be study on this technology. For this technology to be considered fully developed there
is an immediate need for a balance between a free and unregulated market with some involvement
from the government because both systems have its own strengths and weaknesses that will be
discussed further.
Free–market. This term has always been debated by economist for its pros and cons. In the free
market, the buyer and the seller has freedom in doing their businesses. There will be no rule or any
sort of regulations that been set by any authoritative body to intervene with their businesses. This
type of situation is needed in the technology development business. Companies and firms can spread
their wings and expand their research and development (R&D) department without government
intervention that could disturb their growth. Government organizations have always been associated

Stakeholders Theory
The stakeholder theory is a theory of organizational management and business ethics that addresses
morals and values in managing an organization.[1] It was originally detailed by R. Edward Freeman
in the book Strategic Management: A Stakeholder Approach, and identifies and models the groups
which are stakeholders of a corporation, and both describes and recommends methods by which
management can give due regard to the interests of those groups. In short, it attempts to address the
"Principle of Who or What Really Counts."[2]
In the traditional view of the firm, the shareholder view (the only one recognized in business law in
most countries), the shareholders or stockholders are the owners of the company, and the firm has a

In contrast, Stakeholder theory argues that every legimate person or group participating in the
activities of a firm do so to obtain benefits and that the priority of the interests of all legitimate
stakeholders is not self–evident.
Donaldson and Preston offer four central theses related to stakeholder theory.
1) Stakeholder Theory is descriptive in that it offers a model of the corporation.
2) Stakeholder Theory is instrumental in offering a framework for investigating the links between
conventional firm performance and the practice of stakeholder management.
3) Although Stakeholder Theory is descriptive and instrumental, it is more fundamentally normative.
Stakeholders are identified by their interests and all stakeholder interests are considered to be
intrinsically valuable.
4) Stakeholder Theory is managerial in that it recommends attitudes, structures, and practices and
requires that simultaneous attention be given to the interests of all legitimate stakeholders. |

The Real Estate Market Of 2008 Is Notorious For Sparking...
The real estate market in 2008 is notorious for sparking one of the largest housing bubbles in
history. In order to understand the housing market during the bubble you need to recognize the
events that caused it. This was simply an economical failure from the hands of some of the most
well–known financial institutions and the Government. Going back to 1997 to 2006, if you take a
look at the Case–Shiller Home Price Index (the leading indicator for the US housing market
residential prices), you will discover a rise in nominal home prices of 188%. Although there is not a
lot of consensus that uncovers what sparked the housing bubble, countless people have spoken their
opinion in regards to this: misguided monetary policy; government policies pushing home
ownership, consumer speculation of rising home prices, and lower housing supply. These examples
can't fully explain the crash, but they can provide insight as to what may have happened or at least
contributed to it. This article goes into depth on some of the explanations to the housing bubble and
how the burst of it eventually led to the credit crisis which sparked the entire recession in 2008.
Starting back in 1997 when the residential prices began to appreciate into 2003, the rising home
prices can be examined through economic fundamentals. These fundamentals explain the price of
buying a home in relation to rentals and interest rates – meaning that the housing market was not
overvalued. Post 2003–2004, the

Positive Liberty
Should the Government Promote Positive Liberty?
The idea of liberty, or freedom, varies between different theorists. One theorist, Isaiah Berlin,
focused on the difference between two different ways of thinking about political liberty (Cherniss
& Hardy, 2010). Berlin called these two different concepts negative and positive liberty.
According to Berlin, negative freedom can be defined as 'freedom from', that is, freedom from
constraint or interference of others. In contrast, positive freedom can be defined in two ways:
'freedom to', that is the ability to pursue and achieve willed goals; and also as autonomy or self–rule,
as opposed to the dependence on others (Cherniss & Hardy, 2010). Keeping the idea of positive
liberty at ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
And are we to presume that if the law doesn't explicitly say we can do something, we are not
allowed to do it? (Keong, 2007).
Another concern expressed by Keong (2007) is the idea that positive liberty means we expect the
state to hand us certain things on a silver platter. Positive liberty has been used as a platform to push
through ideas such as the principle that everyone is entitled to a minimum income or standard of
living, though not everyone is comfortable with the "moral hazard this might evoke" (Keong, 2007).
Key questions asked with this in mind include; 'if you are guaranteed something, will you be willing
to contribute back to society for it? Or, will you sit around and collect your entitlements? (Keong,
2007; Haworth, 1991).
After going through what positive liberty is, examples of positive liberty and the debates
surrounding positive liberty, the main question running through my head is whether the government
should promote positive liberty? While I do acknowledge what Keong says about people expecting
the state to hand entitlements over, I think that the government should promote positive liberty to
maintain order within society. An image that runs through my head at the thought of the government
not promoting positive liberty is one of anarchy. People can do whatever they like with no
consequence which to me, breeds chaos all around. At least with positive liberty, people can do what

Definition of 'Agency Theory'
Definition of 'Agency Theory'
A supposition that explains the relationship between principals and agents in business. Agency
theory is concerned with resolving problems that can exist in agency relationships; that is, between
principals (such as shareholders) and agents of the principals (for example, company executives).
The two problems that agency theory addresses are: 1.) the problems that arise when the desires or
goals of the principal and agent are in conflict, and the principal is unable to verify (because it
difficult and/or expensive to do so) what the agent is actually doing; and 2.) the problems that arise
when the principal and agent have different attitudes towards risk. Because of different risk

Outside investors recognize that the firm will make decisions contrary to their best interests.
Accordingly, investors will discount the prices they are willing to pay for the firm's securities.
A potential agency conflict arises whenever the manager of a firm owns less than 100 percent of the
firm's common stock. If a firm is a sole proprietorship managed by the owner, the owner–manager
will undertake actions to maximize his or her own welfare. The owner–manager will probably
measure utility by personal wealth, but may trade off other considerations, such as leisure and
perquisites, against personal wealth. If the owner–manager forgoes a portion of his or her ownership
by selling some of the firm's stock to outside investors, a potential conflict of interest, called an
agency conflict, arises. For example, the owner–manager may prefer a more leisurely lifestyle and
not work as vigorously to maximize shareholder wealth, because less of the wealth will now accrue
to the owner–manager. In addition, the owner–manager may decide to consume more perquisites,
because some of the cost of the consumption of benefits will now be borne by the outside
shareholders.

Regulation Of Financial Markets : The Commodity Futures...
CAPTIAL REGULATION IN FINANCIAL MARKETS
The Commodity Futures Modernization Act
The Commodity Futures Modernization Act was a bill that was passed late in the Clinton
presidential era. The act essentially allowed unregulated trading of risky derivatives and allowed
credit default swaps to exist. Majority of individuals in the financial industry supported deregulation
of the derivatives market as well as high–ranking government officials. Supporters included Alan
Greenspan the Federal Reserve chairman, Robert Rubin Clinton's Treasury Secretary, and Arthur
Levitt the chairman of Securities and Exchange Commission. Brooksley Born, the chairman of the
Commodity Futures Trade Commission, wanted the CFTC to oversee the financial derivatives but
faced heavy opposition from Greenspan, Rubin, and Levitt. Born's continuous attempts to warn the
financial industry and government about the risks of an unregulated derivatives market were shut
down. Ultimately, the Commodity Futures Modernization Act was passed by congress and it
exempted both swaps and derivatives from regulation by the SEC or the CFTC.
The effects of this bill were extreme in the financial industry. By June of 2008 the global derivatives
market was worth $530 trillion while credit default swaps had grown to $55 billion. Before the
financial crisis in 2007 the top banks in the credit default market were JP Morgan, Citibank, Bank of
America, and Wachovia. Wachovia was purchased after it collapsed. Bank of American was

The Atomic Bomb Changed The Course Of History
The atomic bomb changed the course of history, saving the U.S. from losing to Japan. This bomb
had an impact on the world both metaphorically and physically. No such weapon had combined
science and technology so smoothly other than the device that, ever since its creation, blew away
Hiroshima and Nagasaki. On August 2, 1939, Einstein proposed an interesting to President Franklin
D. Roosevelt. This idea, called the atomic bomb, would change the lives of everyone. Making it was
easier said than done, though. They needed a team of scientists: Robert Oppenheimer, David Bohm,
Leo Szilard, Eugene Wigner, Felix Bloch, Otto Prisch, Rudolf Peierls, Niels Bohr, Emilio Segre,
James Franck, Enrico Fermi, Klaus Fuchs, and Edward Teller. Then they had to find U–235, which
looked exactly like U–238, a useless material. The process was hard, especially since only
mechanical methods worked. Finally, after an extraction system, a magnetic separation, and a gas
centrifuge, all that was needed to be done was to test the entire concept in the deserts of Jornada del

through the still–dark sky, slowly transforming into an orange ball of fire shooting up 360 feet per

Classical Civilizations: The Reigns of Caesar and Augustus
Classical Civilizations Dear Friend, The expansion of Roman territory into Gaul and the Rhine
River are signs that the republic is continuing to enlarge its borders. This occurred with Julius Cesar
successfully invading and capturing these areas in 60 BC. To achieve these objectives he had won
election to the Senate and secured the support of key allies. Moreover, Cesar controlled a total of
four legions. This gave him the ability to move further North into Britannia and secure the other side
of the Rhine River (through the construction of a bridge). (Walker) (Edwards) The combination of
these factors helped Cesar to become the head of the Roman government. However, a number of
political opponents wanted to limit his power. This is because he had become larger than life and
started to reform the system (which caused him to be seen as arrogant). When this happened, many
of his enemies started plotting against him. This is when they had operatives assassinate Cesar (in
order to remove him from power) in 44 BC. (Walker) (Edwards) These actions were in response to
Cesar being bestowed as dictator of the Roman world. As a result, he implemented a series of
political and social reforms that threatened their way of life. The most notable include: streamlining
authority with one individual, improving government administration and more closely connecting
the different provinces together. These changes helped Cesar to win popularity among the people
and within the Senate.

Stratospheric Ozone Depletion and Its Effect on Skin...
Introduction
This term paper is situated in an area of specific health related and environmental concern: the
human dimensions of global change. For about a decade now there has been growing scientific
interest in the global environmental changes resulting from anthropogenic activity. However most of
this research has focused on the scientific bases of environmental transformations with little
attention to how human social responses are linked to global change. As a result, scientists and
researchers alike are beginning to ask questions about the symbiotic relationship between human
well being and physical change.

In general, the incidence of non–melanoma and malignant melanoma skin cancer has increased
significantly over the past few decades, particularly in the United States, Canada, Australia, the
United Kingdom, and Scandinavian countries. This large "outbreak" has intrigued researchers into
examining the relationship of the growing risk of skin cancer to increases in ground–level UV–B
radiation due to ozone depletion.
According to the latest Scientific Assessment of Ozone Depletion issued by the United Nations and
the US Government, human–influenced ozone–depletion may peak around 1998
and will persist well into the 21st century. For the US and other mid– latitude countries of the
Northern Hemisphere, ozone losses during summer and fall months may peak at 6–7% relative to
ozone concentrations in the 1960s. Winter/spring depletion could peak at nearly twice those levels.
Vienna Convention and Skin Cancer Incidence
The 1985 Vienna Convention built a baseline for international restrictions on the production of
ozone depleting substances. To evaluate the consequences of these restrictions the convention and
its associates projected skin cancer incidence under three scenarios: 1) no restrictions (the Business
as Usual curve); (2) reduced production of five ozone–depleting chemicals by 50 percent by 1999

Why Is The Us Constitution Important
The U.S. Constitution is the document of the principles and system of the United States government.
It covers the goals of the new government, the system and purpose of each branch, how the states
will work, how to amend the constitution, the supremacy of the national government, and the
process of ratification. The U.S. Constitution is the supreme law of America, that must be followed
by everyone. The Constitution of the United States was established at the 1787 Constitutional
Convention and signed in 1787. The Constitution is the structure of America, it tells us how
everything will work in this nation of ours. Without the Constitution, there would not be any
specified rules of how this country is set up and how it works. The Constitution makes us who we
are today, it establishes our system of government, our rules of what we can and can't do, what the
government can do for the people, and how everything in America is set up. On June 18, 1812, the
United States declared war on the British. This action was caused by many reasons. One incident
was in 1807, on the Virginia coast, when the British H.M.S. Leopard's captain, Salusbury
Humphreys, demanded that deserters on the U.S.S. Chesapeake were to be turned over. When the
U.S.S. Chesapeake's master commandant, Charles Gordon, refused, the Leopard violated
international law and fired at the U.S.S. Chesapeake, killing five men and wounding more, taking
any suspected deserters ("Sailor's Rights", 2012). Also, the British

Silent Spring : A Book Review
'SILENT SPRING' – A BOOK REVIEW
By Pratikshya Mahapatra (pm2535) "Pen is mightier than sword"– I think we all are aware of these
famous words coined by Edward Bulwer–Lytton. Rachael Carson's Silent Spring totally justifies the
purpose of the metaphor word by word. Although they always get the critical judgments and are less
celebrated, books sometimes bear the most significant role in changing the social atmosphere.
Rachael Carson's Silent Spring, which was published on 1962, exposed the potential of chemical
hazards of the pesticides like DDT. It slammed the truth in front of the people, questioned the human
faith in technologies and helped on to start an environmental movement bigger than ever. Carson's
love of nature coupled with love of writing and poetry made the Silent Spring possible. Her
determination and courage to make the people aware on chemical industry and its products actually
gave the boost to the success of the book and it raised an important point about the extent of the
human's impact on nature. The book Silent Spring provides us an effective descriptive ecological
view of the nature which is beautifully described in precisely complex, yet poetic language. It took
four years for the completion of the book but the result was marvelous and also was important to
make people aware of environmental issues.
Rachael Carson's motive of writing the book was to send a general image of the impact which the
chemicals like DDT are having on our nature. The book opens

Waukegan is a Suburb of 8 miles south of the Wisconsin boarder and north of Chicago along the
lakefront. Waukegan is the 9th largest city in Illinois with a population of 88,826 people. It is the 5th
largest city along Lake Michigan's west shoreline. Waukegan has been known as the "rustbelt" of
Lake Michigan. This is due to its history of industry. Through the involvement of Local & Federal
Agencies, Companies and the Community Waukegan has made strides in the last 30 years to clean
up 3 Superfund Sites, setting a stage for the city to Revitalize and become the "French Rivera of the
Midwest" like Mayor Robert Sabonjian had envisioned in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The area of greatest concern and threat is Illinois Beach State Park which boarders the
contamination site to the North. This is a concern as asbestos can cause cancer if the fibers are
inhaled. Asbestos is less dangerous in water supplies although the site run–off at one point was 3
times the EPA's limit. The EPA continues to monitor and improve the site. After the main site
contamination were remediated, secondary excavation and capping projects have taken place over
the years to continue to clean the site for future re–development as shown in the image below.
Yeoman Creek Landfill The Yeoman Creek Landfill is a 70–acre landfill comprised of 5 different
parcels of land located along the Yeoman River and was in operation from 1959–1969. The 5 sites
included are:
Yeoman Creek Landfill – East (44 acres)
Yeoman Creek Landfill – West (7.5 acres)
Edwards Field (10 acres)
North Rubloff (2.5 acres)
South Rubloff (2 acres)
In 1969 it was discovered that the site was leaching due to a lack of a bottom liner. The landfill was
leaching volatile organic compounds (VOC), polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB) and explosive
landfill gases (LFG). RD for the Yeoman site was not initiated until 2001. The RA was completed
for this site in 2005. The EPA continues to monitor this site and does inspections every 5 years. The
site continues to fail these inspections due to the inability to continue the

Abstract
For centuries psychologists and scientists have debated whether there was a nurture versus nature
aspect in how humans developed their ability to express emotion. A person's capability to express
emotion is thought to develop with your personality from birth to five years of age but others
believe that a person's genetic makeup forms your ability to show emotion. Scientists, especially
neuroscientists study the relationship between the expression of emotion, neural ... Show more

Introduction
Philosophers and psychologists identify emotion as something you gain through many experiences
you go through. There were many theories that were developed by scientist and psychologists
throughout the centuries that express their beliefs on how emotion is developed. Seventeenth–
century English philosopher John Locke described a young child 's mind as a "tabula rasa" (blank
slate) upon which the child 's experiences are recorded. A child at a young age can be easily
impacted or influenced by anything that is going on around them and the way instances are
perceived and responded to can affect the way the child is going to act in the future because there
isn't much. An eighteenth–century philosopher Jean–Jacques Rousseau also argued that "human
development was primarily a function of experience". He believed in the existence of a natural,
unspoiled state of humankind that is

The End Of Easy Everything

  • 1. The End Of Easy Everything Bernard C. Hilton GLBAFF 301 OL Bernard Hilton Robert Weiner February 20, 2016 UMS ID: 00762747 The End of Easy Everything One of the major issues in global affairs today consists of the supply of energy and other minerals and commodities. Michael Klare in "The End of Easy Everything" argues that the transformation from an effortless to a more resilient resource period will be expensive. Looking at the state of the supply of energy oil and natural gas today, I tend to agree with the findings as presented by Michael Klare. Klare explores contentious issues in which easily obtained supplies are terminating. Particularly, companies that deal in such resources must turn to the more difficult methods to extract sources of oil, natural gas, and various minerals. This has led to controversial methods such as deep–water oil wells, hydrofracking for natural gas and other energy sources. Also, the acid fracking for copper: which some environmentalists maintain that these methods cause environmental damage and should not be permitted. Klare argues that discovery of a natural resource, for instance, oil, result to producers seeking and exploiting the most desirable, best quality and those closest to markets. Over time, these resources become scarce, of poorer quality, harder to extract and extend into the further away area from the market hence need for discovery of other means of obtaining the resource. These means may cause several problems, which may include; Changing to other ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Perkins was named Secretary of Labor by Franklin Roosevelt in 1933. As the first Female Cabinet secretary, she spearheaded the fight to improve the lives of American working people. Perkin's ideas became the cornerstone of the most important social welfare legislation in the nation's history, including unemployment compensation, child labor laws, the forty hour work week, and Social Security. On August 14th 1935, the president signed the Social Security Act. "Later that day, the Washington Post proclaimed that the Social Security Act was the "New Deal's Most Important Act...Its importance cannot be exaggerated ...because this legislation eventually will affect the lives of every man, woman, and child in the country" (fdlibrary.edu). This Act today has secured the economic status of many Americans, and although it has been changed numerous of times, a change which FDR and Perkins knew was bound to occur with passing years. Its change has only being to, Lawrence O'Donnell, "preserve the long–term solvency of Social Security as a self–financing system." The program has being the setting stone of other social programs such as Medicare. Barry Mills, the president of Bowdoin College, in his assembly address raised an imperative worry, he said, various parents are unwilling to send their kids to Bowdoin or to its sister schools in light of the fact that they are seen to be excessively liberal, and too withdrawn with standard America. Various parameters were tested with different inundation estimates and run–up from past tsunami deposits (Priest, 2001, 55). Inundation maps were then created furthermore in the Oregon Building Code, Oregon limited construction of new important or hazardous buildings in tsunami inundation zones indicated by the inundation maps. Zones that these maps are based on use the Cascadia event in 1700 as a "most likely" theoretical situation. Using paleoseismology, and stochastic area, prediction hazard maps have gotten more accurate and have the potential to save a lot of lives. Another vital step for preparedness is setting up safe, reliable warning systems and evacuation routes. Warning systems can potentially save more lives and cut back on damage. There have been three great tsunamis that influenced the creation of tsunami warning systems (Igarashi, 2011, 2044). After the 1946 Aleutian Islands tsunami caused deaths in Hawaii, efforts began to develop a tsunami warning system (Igarashi, 2011, 2043). The tsunami in Chile on May 22, 1960 turned the United State's warning system into an international system, and the Indian Ocean tsunami on December 26, 2004 established a global tsunami warning system (Igarashi, 2011, 2044). Reliable warning systems complement and further improve the ongoing efforts made for tsunami preparedness. It is difficult to predict how much damage or loss of life a tsunami can cause since tsunamis themselves are hard to predict (Yong, 2012, 1020), but a new system of tsunami safety can be developed on the basis of lessons taught by past tsunamis (Igarashi, 2011, 2058). The development of new technology, new techniques, and more quality data allows new warning systems to have faster, more accurate, and reliable detection of earthquakes and tsunamis that can lead to the establishment of more accurate ... Natural gas has earned itself many new names depending on who is asked. According to big gas companies like Haiburton, it's America's solution to the energy crisis and a fuel for the 21st century. They claim this current period of economic and energy prosperity is due to increased fracking. However, this prosperity does not come without a cost. But regardless of which side one takes in the ongoing battle, it is difficult to deny that the electronic media, through their very presence and operation, produce a marked if not adverse impact upon the conduct and perception of those individuals in the courtroom. The very concept of impartiality has been warped in recent years by the saturation coverage provided by the electronic media; the public is bombarded with prejudicial information which makes it increasingly difficult for high–profile defendants to receive anything resembling a fair trial. Within the courthouse, the jury is made conscious of the scrutiny which will fall upon its ultimate decision and is thus held hostage by an "accountability to the community,"3 while judges are forced to preside over issues in media coverage as well as issues of trial law. Meanwhile lawyers are compelled to try their cases in "the court of public opinion" just as vigorously as they must try them in the courtroom. Greater independence from foreign oil would be a positive, and yes, cleaner air is good for your health, and most certainly, everyone loves lower gas prices. According to a spokesman from Pinnacle, a Halliburton service company, "In the more than 60 years following those first treatments, more than two million fracturing treatments have been pumped with not one documented case of any treatment polluting an aquifer – not one."("Shooters–A Fracking History"). This statement may lead you to believe there is no need for concern, but there is a big pink elephant in the room. Arguments against these statements would prove futile, at a first glance, but understanding the true cost, to the environment and our safety could prove more valuable than the money earned. The beginnings of our modern day fracking process reside in a U.S. Patent No. 59,936, issued to a Col. Edward Roberts, in November of 1866, during the civil war. Robert's idea, dubbed "Exploding Torpedo", involved dropping artillery rounds down a well, filling it with water, to concentrate the concussion, thereby fracturing the surrounding rock, allowing for greater access to the gas or oil below. (Hicks, "See an Exploding Torpedo"). This process has improved greatly and the Environmental Protection Agency now refers to hydraulic fracking as the entire process, from the gathering of water used until waste disposal. Immunization is a procedure whereby living or nonliving materials are introduced into the body :" (Nosal, 1999) The concept that people who survive an infectious disease do not get the same disease again is the basis for the administering of vaccinations. In other cases, vaccinations are missed due to concerns about the adverse reactions associated with vaccines. Other factors that may contribute to missed vaccinations may be changing physicians or insurance issues. On a global level, the influenza vaccination in children is recommended and strongly encouraged. These vaccinations are recommended for children especially if they are to be exposed to a daycare or school environment because of the potential for spreading infection. Unfortunately, the influenza vaccine is not administered as needed because of the lack of education about the effectiveness and complications for physicians and parents. Also, the vaccination is not always readily available. Many clinicians vary on there methods and routines of administering the vaccine, although its proven effectiveness warrants a more uniformed practice of delivery. Based on clinical studies, an increase of this vaccination is recommended to protect against the complications and spread of influenza. The risks associated with vaccines need to be taken seriously as they can have adverse side effects. According to Nossal, the most controversial vaccine is the DPT shot. Reactions such as fever, ... According to the definition of Agency Theory corporate governance has an effect upon organization performance. In light of Agency Theory, a potential governance problem is incorporated into the corporate framework as a result of the partition of possession from control (Davis, Schoorman, & Donaldson, 1997). Organization issues develop when the firms' managers with the obligation of speaking to the proprietors ' best advantages, seeks after self–enthusiasm rather that of the proprietor (Khongmalai, Tang, & Siengthai, 2009). As indicated (OECD, OECD Principles OF CORPORATE GOVERNANCE, 2004) and the Cadbury Report (Cadbury Committee, 1992) , good organization performance a consequence of good corporate governance. The firm through focusing on stakeholder consider moral since it deals with all ingredients in a similar way, giving a decent amount of benefits and weights, privileges and obligations to all stakeholders (Alkhafaji, 1989). The stakeholder approach to deal with corporate governance is likewise financially productive while firms consider the attentions of and create trust associations with providers, customers, representatives, and groups can develop upper hands, which, thus, prompt to unrivaled corporate performance (Svendsen, 1998). Developing these natural gas resources can help enhance the country's energy security, strengthen local and state economies, and fuel job growth. Many Americans, oppose any kind of pollution. However, here are reasons to support fracking: 1. It can lead to our nation becoming energy independent 2. It will provide an enormous boost to our state and local economies 3. It has already driven down natural gas prices to the point where utilities are replacing dirty coal–fired power plants with cleaner natural gas–burning plans and increasingly vehicles are burning natural gas instead of dirtier gasoline 4. It will provide many well–paying jobs to geologists, well drillers, office workers, truck drivers, construction workers, and many more. So what is the snag–and how serious is it? Communities where fracking has taken place, notably in Ohio and Pennsylvania, protest the noise and scarring of the landscaping during the initial explorations. Restoration and compensation can better those concerns. The most significant fear is that the wastewater with chemicals from the fracking process, called, flowback, can contaminate the aquifers and drinking water. Introduction In this study I want to look at the effect of task complexity on the relationship between team–based incentives and performance. I will thus try to find whether task complexity is a moderating variable in the relation between incentives and performance and specifically try to find whether this effect differs for individual incentives and team incentives. When looking at incentive contracts in management accounting literature, usually theories from the field of economics and psychology are combined. In some circumstances these theories can lead to quite opposing predictions of the effect of incentives on performance. In general incentive contracts are a decision influencing control tool used to make sure that people's ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (2000) find that only in about 50 percent of the experiments they examined, financial performance led to improvements in productivity. This thus means that the relationship between incentives and performance may be dependent on the situational circumstances and they do not work in every environment. Specifically in their review of experiments Bonner et al. (2000) find that when the complexity of the task increases (relative to the skill of the participants), the likelihood of observing a positive effect of incentives on performance decrease. Bailey and Fessler (2011) also find that monetary incentives are more effective when the task is less complex. On the other hand in a review of empirical studies on financial incentives and performance Jenkins et al. (1999) find that financial incentives are generally related to output quantity but not to quality. Furthermore, they find task type is independent of the relation between financial incentives and performance. If the performance on a complex task is more difficult to measure, the agent's effort thus has less influence on the performance measure (more noise, less sensitivity) and the measure is less effective. All the above studies are concerned with individual incentives. Apart from research on individual incentives there is also a lot ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Carling (1990) states people with mental illnesses have the power to make positive decisions about choices in life. People who have mental illness and have substance abuse issues value dignity. There problems do not exclude them from having a right to dignity. Unconditional positive regard is valued among everyone. Barber (1995) recognizes the importance of treatment being individualized with substance abuse clients. This student assumes this concept to be an axiom no matter what client population is. In fact, each client would have their own unique strength to build on. A person who has mental health and substance use problems from ACE would have resiliency the mental Health professional could possibly utilize. In other words, a person who has experienced negative childhood events would have developed abilities to use in other problem areas. Every child has a different immune system and reacts to illnesses differently. Imagine having a child with disabilities and having them around children that have not been vaccinated. What causes autism? Many parents like to say that the vaccination MMR has caused their child to have autism later in life. Purssell and other authors and doctors have done countless research to find out the truth about MMR and their being a link between the vaccine MMR and autism. On February 28, 1998, Andrew Wakefield, a gastroenterologist did a paper about eight children whose first symptoms appeared after a month after they had received the MMR vaccine. In past decades, there has been an astonishing amount of development in modern world's technology. Nanotechnology is one of them. This technology is based on nano–scale and it can be used in many different areas because of its small sizes. (Metchis). However, there is a huge amount of uncertainties on the hazards of nanomaterial due to lack of research in this field in real world applications. There is a lot of things that need to be study on this technology. For this technology to be considered fully developed there is an immediate need for a balance between a free and unregulated market with some involvement from the government because both systems have its own strengths and weaknesses that will be discussed further. • 102. Stakeholders Theory The stakeholder theory is a theory of organizational management and business ethics that addresses morals and values in managing an organization.[1] It was originally detailed by R. Edward Freeman in the book Strategic Management: A Stakeholder Approach, and identifies and models the groups which are stakeholders of a corporation, and both describes and recommends methods by which management can give due regard to the interests of those groups. In short, it attempts to address the "Principle of Who or What Really Counts."[2] In the traditional view of the firm, the shareholder view (the only one recognized in business law in most countries), the shareholders or stockholders are the owners of the company, and the firm has a binding ... In contrast, Stakeholder theory argues that every legimate person or group participating in the activities of a firm do so to obtain benefits and that the priority of the interests of all legitimate stakeholders is not self–evident. Donaldson and Preston offer four central theses related to stakeholder theory. 1) Stakeholder Theory is descriptive in that it offers a model of the corporation. 2) Stakeholder Theory is instrumental in offering a framework for investigating the links between conventional firm performance and the practice of stakeholder management. 3) Although Stakeholder Theory is descriptive and instrumental, it is more fundamentally normative. Stakeholders are identified by their interests and all stakeholder interests are considered to be intrinsically valuable. 4) Stakeholder Theory is managerial in that it recommends attitudes, structures, and practices and requires that simultaneous attention be given to the interests of all legitimate stakeholders. | Diagram/schematic of theory | | Diagram/schematic of theory | | | | | | At a minimum, stakeholders are those groups from whom the organization has voluntarily accepted benefits, and to whom the organization has therefore incurred obligations ... • 106. The Real Estate Market Of 2008 Is Notorious For Sparking... The real estate market in 2008 is notorious for sparking one of the largest housing bubbles in history. In order to understand the housing market during the bubble you need to recognize the events that caused it. This was simply an economical failure from the hands of some of the most well–known financial institutions and the Government. Going back to 1997 to 2006, if you take a look at the Case–Shiller Home Price Index (the leading indicator for the US housing market residential prices), you will discover a rise in nominal home prices of 188%. Although there is not a lot of consensus that uncovers what sparked the housing bubble, countless people have spoken their opinion in regards to this: misguided monetary policy; government policies pushing home ownership, consumer speculation of rising home prices, and lower housing supply. These examples can't fully explain the crash, but they can provide insight as to what may have happened or at least contributed to it. This article goes into depth on some of the explanations to the housing bubble and how the burst of it eventually led to the credit crisis which sparked the entire recession in 2008. Starting back in 1997 when the residential prices began to appreciate into 2003, the rising home prices can be examined through economic fundamentals. These fundamentals explain the price of buying a home in relation to rentals and interest rates – meaning that the housing market was not overvalued. Post 2003–2004, the ... • 110. Positive Liberty Should the Government Promote Positive Liberty? The idea of liberty, or freedom, varies between different theorists. One theorist, Isaiah Berlin, focused on the difference between two different ways of thinking about political liberty (Cherniss & Hardy, 2010). Berlin called these two different concepts negative and positive liberty. According to Berlin, negative freedom can be defined as 'freedom from', that is, freedom from constraint or interference of others. In contrast, positive freedom can be defined in two ways: 'freedom to', that is the ability to pursue and achieve willed goals; and also as autonomy or self–rule, as opposed to the dependence on others (Cherniss & Hardy, 2010). Keeping the idea of positive liberty at ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... And are we to presume that if the law doesn't explicitly say we can do something, we are not allowed to do it? (Keong, 2007). Another concern expressed by Keong (2007) is the idea that positive liberty means we expect the state to hand us certain things on a silver platter. Positive liberty has been used as a platform to push through ideas such as the principle that everyone is entitled to a minimum income or standard of living, though not everyone is comfortable with the "moral hazard this might evoke" (Keong, 2007). Key questions asked with this in mind include; 'if you are guaranteed something, will you be willing to contribute back to society for it? Or, will you sit around and collect your entitlements? (Keong, 2007; Haworth, 1991). After going through what positive liberty is, examples of positive liberty and the debates surrounding positive liberty, the main question running through my head is whether the government should promote positive liberty? While I do acknowledge what Keong says about people expecting the state to hand entitlements over, I think that the government should promote positive liberty to maintain order within society. An image that runs through my head at the thought of the government not promoting positive liberty is one of anarchy. People can do whatever they like with no consequence which to me, breeds chaos all around. At least with positive liberty, people can do what ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 119. Definition of 'Agency Theory' Definition of 'Agency Theory' A supposition that explains the relationship between principals and agents in business. Agency theory is concerned with resolving problems that can exist in agency relationships; that is, between principals (such as shareholders) and agents of the principals (for example, company executives). The two problems that agency theory addresses are: 1.) the problems that arise when the desires or goals of the principal and agent are in conflict, and the principal is unable to verify (because it difficult and/or expensive to do so) what the agent is actually doing; and 2.) the problems that arise when the principal and agent have different attitudes towards risk. Accordingly, investors will discount the prices they are willing to pay for the firm's securities. A potential agency conflict arises whenever the manager of a firm owns less than 100 percent of the firm's common stock. If a firm is a sole proprietorship managed by the owner, the owner–manager will undertake actions to maximize his or her own welfare. The owner–manager will probably measure utility by personal wealth, but may trade off other considerations, such as leisure and perquisites, against personal wealth. If the owner–manager forgoes a portion of his or her ownership by selling some of the firm's stock to outside investors, a potential conflict of interest, called an agency conflict, arises. For example, the owner–manager may prefer a more leisurely lifestyle and not work as vigorously to maximize shareholder wealth, because less of the wealth will now accrue to the owner–manager. In addition, the owner–manager may decide to consume more perquisites, because some of the cost of the consumption of benefits will now be borne by the outside shareholders. • 127. Regulation Of Financial Markets : The Commodity Futures... CAPTIAL REGULATION IN FINANCIAL MARKETS The Commodity Futures Modernization Act The Commodity Futures Modernization Act was a bill that was passed late in the Clinton presidential era. The act essentially allowed unregulated trading of risky derivatives and allowed credit default swaps to exist. Majority of individuals in the financial industry supported deregulation of the derivatives market as well as high–ranking government officials. Supporters included Alan Greenspan the Federal Reserve chairman, Robert Rubin Clinton's Treasury Secretary, and Arthur Levitt the chairman of Securities and Exchange Commission. Brooksley Born, the chairman of the Commodity Futures Trade Commission, wanted the CFTC to oversee the financial derivatives but faced heavy opposition from Greenspan, Rubin, and Levitt. Born's continuous attempts to warn the financial industry and government about the risks of an unregulated derivatives market were shut down. Ultimately, the Commodity Futures Modernization Act was passed by congress and it exempted both swaps and derivatives from regulation by the SEC or the CFTC. The effects of this bill were extreme in the financial industry. By June of 2008 the global derivatives market was worth $530 trillion while credit default swaps had grown to $55 billion. Before the financial crisis in 2007 the top banks in the credit default market were JP Morgan, Citibank, Bank of America, and Wachovia. Wachovia was purchased after it collapsed. This bomb had an impact on the world both metaphorically and physically. No such weapon had combined science and technology so smoothly other than the device that, ever since its creation, blew away Hiroshima and Nagasaki. On August 2, 1939, Einstein proposed an interesting to President Franklin D. Roosevelt. This idea, called the atomic bomb, would change the lives of everyone. Making it was easier said than done, though. They needed a team of scientists: Robert Oppenheimer, David Bohm, Leo Szilard, Eugene Wigner, Felix Bloch, Otto Prisch, Rudolf Peierls, Niels Bohr, Emilio Segre, James Franck, Enrico Fermi, Klaus Fuchs, and Edward Teller. Then they had to find U–235, which looked exactly like U–238, a useless material. The process was hard, especially since only mechanical methods worked. Finally, after an extraction system, a magnetic separation, and a gas centrifuge, all that was needed to be done was to test the entire concept in the deserts of Jornada del Muerto (about money). The Gadget was quickly put together. Upon detonating, the white blaze shot through the still–dark sky, slowly transforming into an orange ball of fire shooting up 360 feet per second. The mushroom cloud took form at 30,000 feet. • 135. Classical Civilizations: The Reigns of Caesar and Augustus Classical Civilizations Dear Friend, The expansion of Roman territory into Gaul and the Rhine River are signs that the republic is continuing to enlarge its borders. This occurred with Julius Cesar successfully invading and capturing these areas in 60 BC. To achieve these objectives he had won election to the Senate and secured the support of key allies. Moreover, Cesar controlled a total of four legions. This gave him the ability to move further North into Britannia and secure the other side of the Rhine River (through the construction of a bridge). (Walker) (Edwards) The combination of these factors helped Cesar to become the head of the Roman government. However, a number of political opponents wanted to limit his power. This is because he had become larger than life and started to reform the system (which caused him to be seen as arrogant). When this happened, many of his enemies started plotting against him. This is when they had operatives assassinate Cesar (in order to remove him from power) in 44 BC. (Walker) (Edwards) These actions were in response to Cesar being bestowed as dictator of the Roman world. As a result, he implemented a series of political and social reforms that threatened their way of life. The most notable include: streamlining authority with one individual, improving government administration and more closely connecting the different provinces together. These changes helped Cesar to win popularity among the people and within the Senate. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Introduction This term paper is situated in an area of specific health related and environmental concern: the human dimensions of global change. For about a decade now there has been growing scientific interest in the global environmental changes resulting from anthropogenic activity. However most of this research has focused on the scientific bases of environmental transformations with little attention to how human social responses are linked to global change. As a result, scientists and researchers alike are beginning to ask questions about the symbiotic relationship between human well being and physical change. In general, the incidence of non–melanoma and malignant melanoma skin cancer has increased significantly over the past few decades, particularly in the United States, Canada, Australia, the United Kingdom, and Scandinavian countries. This large "outbreak" has intrigued researchers into examining the relationship of the growing risk of skin cancer to increases in ground–level UV–B radiation due to ozone depletion. According to the latest Scientific Assessment of Ozone Depletion issued by the United Nations and the US Government, human–influenced ozone–depletion may peak around 1998 and will persist well into the 21st century. For the US and other mid– latitude countries of the Northern Hemisphere, ozone losses during summer and fall months may peak at 6–7% relative to ozone concentrations in the 1960s. Winter/spring depletion could peak at nearly twice those levels. Vienna Convention and Skin Cancer Incidence The 1985 Vienna Convention built a baseline for international restrictions on the production of ozone depleting substances. To evaluate the consequences of these restrictions the convention and its associates projected skin cancer incidence under three scenarios: 1) no restrictions (the Business as Usual curve); (2) reduced production of five ozone–depleting chemicals by 50 percent by 1999 (under the "Montreal

It covers the goals of the new government, the system and purpose of each branch, how the states will work, how to amend the constitution, the supremacy of the national government, and the process of ratification. The U.S. Constitution is the supreme law of America, that must be followed by everyone. The Constitution of the United States was established at the 1787 Constitutional Convention and signed in 1787. The Constitution is the structure of America, it tells us how everything will work in this nation of ours. Without the Constitution, there would not be any specified rules of how this country is set up and how it works. The Constitution makes us who we are today, it establishes our system of government, our rules of what we can and can't do, what the government can do for the people, and how everything in America is set up. On June 18, 1812, the United States declared war on the British. This action was caused by many reasons. One incident was in 1807, on the Virginia coast, when the British H.M.S. Leopard's captain, Salusbury Humphreys, demanded that deserters on the U.S.S. Chesapeake were to be turned over. When the U.S.S. Chesapeake's master commandant, Charles Gordon, refused, the Leopard violated international law and fired at the U.S.S. Silent Spring : A Book Review 'SILENT SPRING' – A BOOK REVIEW By Pratikshya Mahapatra (pm2535) "Pen is mightier than sword"– I think we all are aware of these famous words coined by Edward Bulwer–Lytton. Rachael Carson's Silent Spring totally justifies the purpose of the metaphor word by word. Although they always get the critical judgments and are less celebrated, books sometimes bear the most significant role in changing the social atmosphere. Rachael Carson's Silent Spring, which was published on 1962, exposed the potential of chemical hazards of the pesticides like DDT. It slammed the truth in front of the people, questioned the human faith in technologies and helped on to start an environmental movement bigger than ever. Carson's love of nature coupled with love of writing and poetry made the Silent Spring possible. Her determination and courage to make the people aware on chemical industry and its products actually gave the boost to the success of the book and it raised an important point about the extent of the human's impact on nature. The book Silent Spring provides us an effective descriptive ecological view of the nature which is beautifully described in precisely complex, yet poetic language. It took four years for the completion of the book but the result was marvelous and also was important to make people aware of environmental issues. Rachael Carson's motive of writing the book was to send a general image of the impact which the chemicals like DDT are having on our nature. The book opens ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There were many theories that were developed by scientist and psychologists throughout the centuries that express their beliefs on how emotion is developed. Seventeenth– century English philosopher John Locke described a young child 's mind as a "tabula rasa" (blank slate) upon which the child 's experiences are recorded. A child at a young age can be easily impacted or influenced by anything that is going on around them and the way instances are perceived and responded to can affect the way the child is going to act in the future because there isn't much.
