Volume: How Much Does Something Hold?
What Is It? Volume Definition: The amount that can be held inside a shape Volume Uses 3 Dimensions V = Length x Width x Height Length Width Height
Volume of a Cylinder What is a Cylinder? can bottle tube glass cup How to Find it Or r 2 h x r x r x h = 3.14 r = radius h = height
Task One Complete the worksheet on cylinders You can use your calculator You must show your workings All measurements are in CM 3
Task Two Look round the classroom and find 10 shapes that have volume. As an example. it could be a pencil case, folder, can or table (remember it must have 3 measurements) – length , width and height Sketch the shape and show the measurements on your diagram. It doesn’t need to be to scale, but it will help with your workings out and understanding Depending on the shape, your measurements might not be able to be 100% accurate, but try to be as precise as possible Once you have drawn it, describe what it is and then work out the volume showing all of your workings out
Task Two (example) A text book; L= 15cm W=8cm H=2cm 15 x 8 x 2 = 240cm You will also sketch your shape and label it with the measurements 3
