2. Audience
0 I want to target my project specifically to the Baby Boomers
Generation: Born 1946 – 1964, Generation X : Born 1965 – 1976
and Millennial or Gen Y Generation: Born 1977 – 1995 (aged 72-
24) I chose this target audience because it covers all the ages that
I hope to talk about within my project. I also chose this age group
because I think that each specific generation can relate to at least
one of stories that are told.
0 My project isn’t specifically catered to any gender however, I think
that females would be drawn into this project I think this because
of what I hope to include in my project. I want to include a lot of
family subjects which is seen typically as a female subject. It also
could be because the documentary is all about women, it stars a
woman and is narrated by a woman.
0 I hope that my project is something that would make people
think a lot about themselves and their family after watching.

Gen Y/ Millennial 1977-1995
Gen Z/ iGen/
Centennials

0 The demographic that I think would
work best for my FMP is most likely
B,C1 and C2. This is because the
people within these classes include
teachers, social workers and nurses.
0 I chose these demographics which
house these specific jobs because the
stories told within my documentary
will include stories surrounding some
of the different careers listed within
each class.
3
4. Audience Summary
0 The audience research shows all the types of audience
categories that I could possibly cater towards for my
final production.
0 I decided that for my production I didn’t want to cater
to a specific group of people because I think that anyone
who watches it could find at least one point to relate to.
0 If I had to choose one specific age range to cater my
production to I would pick generation X. I would choose
this because the age range varies to people aged around
40 and up, and I think that these people this age would
relate to my production a lot more.

10. Surveys Analysis
0 From reading through my surveys they have helped
me to see what people would expect to see from a
documentary based on the 1920’s-40’s. It has helped
my narrow down what people expect to see in my
documentary and what people would expect to see in
a standard documentary. I also asked what they would
expect a documentary based in that time to look like
and why. These answers has helped me to come up
with a final idea od what I would want my
documentary to look like.
10
11. Online Research
0 I chose to look at BBC
because the BBC release a
lot of informative
documentaries such as
0 Looking at the different
documentaries I can see what
style would work for my own
documentary. Whether that
be the way the camera is set
up or the style of color
grading would work best. I
can see whether having a sit
down interview would look
detailed enough or whether I
should include b-roll footage
to break up the continuous
shot of the interview.
11
12. 0 I also looked at ITV as another
documentary based channel. Even
though ITV isn't known as specifically
a documentary channel it still
produces well known documentaries,
such as;
0 Similar to when looking at the BBC
documentaries, when watching the
ITV documentary I’m looking at how
the shot looks and the style its set up
in to see if I think it would look good
as part of my documentary.
12
13. 0 I looked at this documentary
because I wanted to see what a
genuine black and white
documentary looked like. I also
wanted to see if there is usually
any commentary voice over the
film. I also chose this film because
it shows a lot of different types of
people.
0 As a audience, we learn a lot of
different things about the people
taking part in the documentary,
where the documentary is taking
place and what is happening at the
time of the documentary.
13
14. Online Research Summary
0 For my online research I looked at different documentary
broadcasting services. From doing this I found out the typical
person who watches these services. From looking at BBC and ITV
I found that a typical viewer of these broadcasters is the Baby
Boomers Generation: Born 1946 – 1964, aged 72-54. I also found
that between 70%-80% of the viewers are female. This
information works out to be in favor of my product because my
target audience is primarily women aged 50 and up.
14
15. Marketplace
0 I had previously looked at a documentary titled “A beautiful
Struggle” by Pascal Pernix. I chose to look at this film because its
all about mothers and the struggles of motherhood. This relates
to my film because a lot of the mothers had husbands who left or
passed on, this is similar to the focus of my project because my
project will include similar stories to these.
0 I also looked at a “Golden Oldies” which is a BBC documentary
series following the lives of the older generation. This is similar to
my film because of who the main focus point is, as well as their
age is similar to the age group I'm focusing on.

16. Production Techniques
0 How To: Create a Vintage Film Look in Premiere Pro 2017
0 https://youtu.be/5aRrncr6B84
0 I've chose to look at this in case I find any archive footage I want
to include, or any home footage that doesn't’t have a vintage film
look already.
0 How to create a SUPER 8 Film Camera Look in Adobe Premiere Pro
(CC 2017 Tutorial)
0 https://youtu.be/jrmmJK9QwPo
0 With this tutorial I was looking at how to manage a grainy film and
what overlays I could do to fix my issue or utilise it within my film
0 Creating the Old Film Style Look in Premiere Pro CC
0 https://youtu.be/8ahNze5U9RA
0 I looked at this tutorial as a Charlie Chaplin style of film. I would
use this if I filmed any other footage apart from my interview
footage. 16
