Thomas McEnaney conducted location recces for photographs to feature in a magazine article about an artist who won an award. Recce locations included a white room and a back garden. Potential hazards like loose wires and wet floors were identified. Permission was obtained from the school head teacher and the artist was contacted to confirm the photoshoot details. Risk assessments were reviewed from other magazines to inform planning. An interview was also conducted with the artist to include in the article.

3. Public Liability
To protect my business from any third party claims it is
important that I get my photographers covered so that if
they are shooting in public and a member of the public
falls over their bag they are covered and the insurance.
Photogaurd are an insurance company who protect
photographers so that if a member of public tries to claim
against the business we are protected by Photogaurd.
They also protect the business from equipment we own
such as cameras lenses so that if they are accidently
damaged or stolen the insurer can cover the business.
And does not affect the production schedule or launch of
the magazine as they can provide an instant replacement

4. Street Photography
If I was to shoot any of the images on the public
street there is a law that is in place that anyone who
is concerned about being in an image that I have
taken can approach me and inquire about what I am
doing and if they are not happy about being in the
image I would have to delete it in front of them
unless a law enforcement officer was present who
has authority to asses the situation and make a
decision.

5. Health & Safety at the Workplace
Under health and safety law, the primary responsibility
for this is down to employers. Workers have a duty to
take care of their own health and safety and that of others
who may be affected by your actions at work. Workers
must co-operate with employers and co-workers to help
everyone meet their legal requirements. To make sure
that my employees understand this I make sure that all
members of staff have an introductory health and safety
session which includes videos of what and what not to do
as well as signing legal health and safety documents to
state that they understand what to do if there is a safety
concern to staff.

6. Watermark
Watermark is protecting and work that my magazine
company is producing. It is a faint mark behind the
image to show that the images or work is protected and
cannot be used or copy unless they have contacted the
business to seek permission to use it if they have to. I
have used watermark for my magazine to protect it and
the images that I have used for my front cover double
page spread and any other images
my photographers have taken and been
used in my magazine as other competitors
could potentially use them if I did
not watermark the work.
8. Evidence of Photography hazard
This is a wet floor which has not got any
hazard sign so if I had not noticed this is it
could have potentially caused someone
falling over.
The second hazard I noticed in the
room was this loose wire which could
have potentially been live and
electrocuted someone walking pass.
10. Permission to take photographs
Here is evidence from Mr Mitchells PA to confirm that he has
granted permission for the images to be taken in MS1
11. Contacting the Artist to confirm the photoshoot
This is an email I sent to the model to confirm that they are able at the selected
time and location which he was.
12. Contacting NME
I tried to make contact with NME on three occasions to find out how there
location recce is planned and what risk assessments they have to do before the
shoot.
13. Evidence of Conducting an Interview
I had to have a face to face
interview with the artist
after he won his award so
that I could get a feel for
his emotion and
excitement about
winning. Also I will use
this interview for both the
double page spread inside
the hardcopy of the
magazine and on the
website for readers to see.
14. Conclusion
Working through this learning outcome I was able to
find any potential hazards and locations that were
not safe to work in or what precautions had to be
made before shooting in case any of the potential
hazards occurred.
Following on the legal and ethical issues help me
develop an idea of what I could and could not include
in my magazine due to editors code of practice or
because the copyright laws which could prevent from
using some work.
