CHAPTER 8 - BRICKWORK
Tutorial
Estimate the tender sum to construct a half brick thick wall of the size 5m high x 10m long.
The brick shall be laid in stretcher bond using cement sand brick in cement mortar
of (1:3). Exmet and DPC shall be laid. Each end of the wall shall be tied to column
6mm dia rod at 250mm girth at 400 ctc.
DATA:
Material cost for cement sand brick = RM150 for 1000 pieces
Material cost for common clay brick = RM200 for 1000 pieces
1 m2 of half brick required 59 pieces of brick
1 m2 of one brick required 118 pieces of brick
Allow 5% waste on brick
Mortar required for 1m2 of half brickwall is 0.07m3
Mortar required for 1m2 of one brickwall is 0.15m3
Ordinary Portland Cement including unloading is RM10.00/50kg
Sand including unloading is RM30/tonne
1m3 of OPC = 1420kg
1m3 of sand = 1600kg
Allow 33.33% shrinkage for mortar
1 gang of brick layer consist of 1 bricklayer and 1 labourer
1 bricklayer @ RM70/day and labour @ RM40/day. 8hrs/day
Output of 1 bricklayer at 120 bricks / hr including fixing bonding ties, exmet and DPC
Cost of exmet at RM65/82m roll
Cost of DPC
150mm wide RM16/roll @ 50m (allow 5% wastage and 15% overlapped)
250mm wide RM35/roll @ 50m (allow 5% wastage and 15% overlapped)
Scoffolding cost RM70/day if required.
Bonding ties RM110/bucket. 1 bucket consist 1000 nos.
Allow 10% of profit and overhead
