3. 1) What is least cover provided for different RCC Members?
Answer:
Footing = 50 mm
Column = 40mm
Beam = 25mm
Slab = 20mm
4. 2) What are the functions of column in a building?
Answer:
Column is a vertical member in building
whose primary function is to support
structural load and transfer it through
beams. Upper columns transfers the load to
the lower columns and finally to the ground
through footings.
5. 3) What is the cement sand & aggregate ratios for
various grades of concrete mix?
Answer:
Concrete Grade Mix
Ratio (cement : sand : aggregates)
M7.5 1 : 4 : 8
M10 1 : 3 : 6
M15 1 : 2 : 4
M20 1 : 1.5 : 3
6. 4) What do you mean by honeycomb in concrete?
Answer:
Honeycomb, also known as air
pocket, is nothing but the air voids in
concrete. It is usually formed during
concrete casting.
7. 5) What is the initial and final setting time of ideal
cement mix?
Answer:
Initial setting time for ideal cement mix is
around 30 minutes for almost all kind of
cements. For masonry cement it can be
90minutes. Final setting time of ideal cement
mix should be 10 hours at max. For masonry
cement it shouldn’t exceed 24hours.
8. 6) What do you know about “TMT”?
Answer:
TMT stands for “Thermo Mechanically
Treated”. Generally we use TMT bars and
sheet for construction purposes for the
reason that they have high strength and
high corrosion resistance compared to
normal steels.
9. 7) What are the types of cement?
Answer:
There are various types of cement which are:
Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC), Portland
Pozzolana Cement (PPC), Low Heat Portland
Cement, Hydrophobic cement, Rapid
Hardening Cement, Portland Slag Cement,
Sulphate resisting Portland Cement, etc.
10. 8) What do you mean by M20?
Answer:
M stands for Mix and 20 stands for 20
kN/mm2 which is characteristics strength
of concrete.
11. 9) Now tell me, What do you mean by characteristics
strength of concrete?
Answer:
The compressive strength of concrete is given in
terms of the characteristic compressive strength of
150 mm size cubes tested at 28 days (fck)- as
per Indian Standards . The characteristic strength is
defined as the strength of the concrete below
which not more than 5% of the test results are
expected to fall.
12. 10) How do u measure the workability of concrete?
Answer:
Workability can measure by various method. Those
methods are Slump test, Flow test, and vee – Bee
consistency test.
13. 2) What is major difference in 3 type of cement?
Answer:
OPC – General Form of cement (max. used).
PPC - partial replacement of OPC with Fly Ash.
(15 % to 35 %)
PSC – Partial replacement of OPC with Slag
(20 % to 70 %)
14. 4) Why OPC Cement Recommended for RRC work?
Answer:
OPC – With OPC, We get..
• High early strength gain by concrete
• Early Removal of Formwork
15. 3) Which is cement is best for house construction?
Answer:
OPC – it is recommended for RCC work
( Footing, Beam, Column, Slab)
PPC and PSC – It is recommended for Masonry
work, plaster work, tiling work, waterproofing
work.
16. 5) Why PPC Cement Recommended Masonry and
Plasterwork?
Answer:
PPC & PSC – while using these cement strength
is not important criteria.
• These cement produce less heat of
hydration
• So, less chances of cracking.
17. 6) What, if OPC Cement is not available in local
market?
Answer:
In such situation , we can use PPC or PSC.
But, Curing period must be extended.
For OPC – 7 days, PPC & PSC – 10 days
