Science 7 - LAND and SEA BREEZE and its Characteristics
Question 1
1.
2. The characters we decided to feature in our piece were conventional of
protagonists and antagonists in horror films in terms of personality since the
protagonist was considered quite weak compared to the antagonist who seemed
dominant and in control. Because of this the protagonist was also very wary of
his environment since he didn’t know where the antagonist was, however the
story plans out to show they are both the same character which I will mention
about in the following slide. The characters are not conventional in the fact that in
terms of gender the roles are reversed since the male is conventionally the
antagonist and in a dominant position; we thought this would be a ideal change to
usual horror conventions since we discovered in research that people found
younger girls to be more scary in horror films.
3. • We wanted to attempt to use our props to try to convey
the idea that the two characters were the same person
we decided to do this by having the characters both
wearing white and using eyeline match shots showing the
two having similar eyes due to the blue contacts Sophie
was wearing
4.
5. • We took inspiration for the storyline from fightclub
(Fincher, 1999) since the main character has
schizophrenia but embraces it rather than in our film
where he is continuously scared of his surroundings due
to it. (+Se7en)
6. • Our set was conventional of a horror film since it looked
to be abandoned and therefore we should candles in
several shots to show that the protagonist had invaded
an area and had been set up in this area for a while by
showing books and papers on the table and pictures on
the wall this made it look like the was set up in the area
and also like he was planning something as well as
giving the impression he is educated. We wanted the
area to seem abandoned an therefor stuck to very dim
lighting which is also conventional to the genre
7. • Our soundtrack did not turn out fully as we envisioned
due to the lack of sound in the quite room making it seem
too calm however in postproduction we decided to
enhance certain sounds and add sounds from the
protagonists subconscious to create a ghostly feel. We
did this by using a different voice actress due to the main
actress not being available we were then able to layer
them and distort them in order to create a more eerie
feel. We also made the sound louder at certain points to
try and create jumps such as when the pen is dropped
and the title is revealed
