The Purpose of Exploratory Research

The Purpose of Exploratory Research: Good Research Questions Years ago, before the advent of
CAT scanners and other noninvasive medical diagnostic procedures, doctors who were stumped
about a patient's symptoms might recommend "exploratory surgery." With little to go on but
vague descriptions of symptoms, physicians would "open up" a patient to look around and see
what needed fixing. In market research, exploratory research plays a similar role. Marketers have
no machines to peer inside a decision problem, so they may use certain research techniques to
"open up" the problem and look around. Researchers use these techniques, which they refer to
collectively as exploratory research, with a single broad purpose: clarify...show more content...
Generally, exploratory research techniques simply involve conversations between a researcher and
the people being studied. Although the researcher may guide the conversation across certain issues,
the questioning is usually informal and semistructured. Thus, the data produced by qualitative
research is textual. That is, the research produces a "text." Although the text is analyzed, the methods
of analyses are not statistical; textual data are not numerical and do not lend themselves to statistical
analysis. This limitation is important. Researchers and decision makers alike often wish to
generalize the conclusions of their research from their samples to some larger population of interest.
Textual data do not permit this kind of generalization. On the other hand, assuming other conditions
are met, quantitative data may be generalized from a sample to a larger population. Making these
generalizations and calculating the margins of error inherent in them requires that the data be
numerical. Generally speaking, research procedures such as surveys and experimentation (often
called confirmatory and causal research, respectively) produce the quantitative data needed for such
analyses. Thus, these two categories of research clearly rely on one another. That is, asking the
right questions of the right people in the right way to produce generalizable statistical results
requires knowing what to ask, who to ask, and how to ask. These facets of research are often

Exploratory Report
This exploratory paper draws upon generally on the issues and developments of worldwide budgetary
emergency. The report focuses on the numerous disappointments and those disappointments got from
a blend of hypothesis and establishments rehearse. Since the Great Depression we are in the thick of
the hardest monetary emergency under the radical budgetary deregulation transform that began in
the late 1970's. The fundamental variables, adding to the budgetary emergency are the most shaky
and suspicions for the future with no verifiable data, additionally by utilizing the expository
movement which did not work out, yet as the nations are growing new manifestations of thoughts
and speculations are rising towards fruitful serving to cut down...show more content...
The way of that emergency has uncovered essential vulnerabilities inside states and far and wide.
Those vulnerabilities were taken into account a blend of obligation and influence, intra–budgetary
increase and securitization, neurotic basic advancements in individual economies, and unsustainable
asymmetries in worldwide capital gathering, making lopsided characteristics in exchange, venture
and utilization elements (Morgan, 2008, 2009; Wade, 2008). For example, involving dynamic
reappraisals the emergency was 'moderate smoldering', conveyed by a progression of basic
occasions. The outcome, on the other hand, continued an expository movement towards a negative
result which is monetary deleveraging/ adjustment/ stoppage/downturn. There are two key reasons
why the logical line of impediments was taken after. The principal key reason is that the framework
knows the behavioral impacts of how awful or more regrettable the framework would be influenced.
Additionally, both of the reason are connected with one another from multiple points of view. The
second key explanation behind an explanatory line of impediments in view of the scale and scope of
developing emergency was devalued. This devaluation conceived the useless framework from which
emergency then apparent. In light of these two reasons deterioration and

Given that the research problem in this report is ambiguous, the basic research method adopted is
exploratory research. The role of exploratory research is to clarify and define a problem at the
initial stage of the research. Zikmund, Ward, Lowe, Winzar and Babin (2011), suggest that
exploratory research is not intended to provide conclusive evidence and is conducted with the
expectation that subsequent research will be required to provide such conclusive evidence. Thus,
exploratory research is the foundation of the research process which will lead to descriptive
research, and maybe causal research.
There are many exploratory methods that can be used to conduct research. These include field
studies, action research, depth interviews, focus groups and desk research. This exploratory research
utilised one qualitative method to collect data, which will help gain an insight of the research
problem before further research is performed. The method chosen was 'in–depth interviews' which
are relatively unstructured and extensive interviews in which the interviewer asks many questions
and probes for in–depth answers (Zikmund, Ward, Lowe, Winzar, & Babin; 2011). Zikmund,
Ward, Lowe, Winzar, and Babin, (2011) also suggest that there is no one perfect method which can
meet all research objectives.
In–depth interviews have been conducted with four members of the public who currently live in

Exploratory Essay: Library Administration and Management
In library settings, the manager or administrator position is a prevalent position within the profession
(Mackenzie & Smith, 2009). This exploratory essay will examine the current education requirements,
skills, competencies, knowledge, experience, technical skills, and salaries of managers and
administrators working in public libraries.
Educational Requirements
While the MLIS degree is widely accepted as the standard degree for library professionals, the
requirement for employment can vary. The Bureau of Labor Statistics' Occupational Outlook
Handbook (2014) lists a master's degree as the required entry–level education for librarians.
However, according to the American Library Association...show more content...
"Analytical, Problem Solving and Critical Thinking Skills" was the next most commonly listed
competency (Fraser–Arnott, 2013.) Jordan (2012) developed a research–based set of twenty
statistically significant competencies specifically for library directors by refining data collected
from structured interviews with a diverse set of library directors. The study identified these
competencies as being: enthusiasm, demonstrating leadership, delegation, accountability, planning,
integrity, risk taking, credibility, resourcemanagement, creativity, customer service, interpersonal
skills, communication skills, flexibility, vision, political understanding, maturity, problem solving,
and advocacy skills. In 2008, the ALA developed a set of Core Competencies for LIS professionals,
and included five competencies regarding administration and management. These competencies
include: budgeting, human resources, assessment and evaluation of library services, developing
community partnerships, and transformational leadership. The word "transformational" was chosen
in reference to the changing nature of libraries; it was meant to indicate that libraries need leaders
who are able to guide them through times of rapid change (Hicks & Given,

XXXXXXXXX Exploratory Report Stake–Holders: People/Entities The conflict of the Ground Zero
mosque has become one of the fiercest religious based debates in recent years. One of the most
influential men in the debate is Feisal Abdul Rauf. Rauf is the Imam (leader in prayer) at the
current New York City mosque just a few blocks away from the proposed location of the future
mosque. He has put a lot of time and money into this proposed mosque and does not plan to give up
on it. Another key person in this issue is Sharif El–Gamal, the CEO of Soho Properties. Soho
Properties is the company who purchased the lot where they plan to build the mosque, and who is
overseeing the hiring and funding to complete the project. Sharif and Feisal have been...show more

The main reason for opposing this mosque is the location of it being too close to Ground Zero.
Those who oppose it do not necessarily oppose mosques in America, since there are over 23,000 of
them. Rather, they oppose it being near a location where Islamic terrorists attacked America nine
years ago on 9/11. Many Muslim–Americans, such as Raheel Raza, say building this mosque would
be a slap in the face to America. Also, there are a lot of mysteries behind this mosque such as
where the funding is going to come from. Rauf has said he is going to release where all the funds
are coming from, but has yet to even after many requests. Many are led to believe that Radical
Extremists are providing funds, and the Park51 group has neither confirmed nor denied these
allegations. The biggest person opposing this project is Newt Gingrich. He is quoted on the record
many times saying this building is going to be looked at as a victory mosque for the terrorists. The
people opposing this project have compared this situation to that of when the Catholic nuns built a
convent in Auschwitz to honor those who were killed, and had no intentions other than peaceful
ones, just like the Park51 leaders. The Jewish community became very hostile and started protesting
and causing riots. When Pope John Paul heard about this aggression, he asked the nuns to vacate the
land to maintain peace. Those against this mosque raise the

One of the most popular methods for solving the class imbalance problems is sampling. The most
used sampling techniques are undersampling and oversampling. In undersampling, instances of the
minority and majority classes are selected randomly in order to achieve a balanced stratified sample
with equal class distributions, often using all instances of the minority class and only a subset of the
majority class, or undersampling both classes for even smaller subsets with equal class sizes.
Alternatively, in oversampling, the cases of the under–represented class are replicated a number of
times, so that the class distributions are more equal (Crone and Finlay, 2012). Mujalli et al. (2016)
indicated that using balanced datasets, especially those created using oversampling techniques,
improved classifying a traffic collision according to its severity and reduced the misclassification
of the minority class instances....show more content...
One subset is the general, which contains all types of collisions, whereas the other subset is
pedestrian–specific which only contains pedestrian collisions. Both subsets were used in order to
find out if different patterns of variables affecting severity could be extracted when using general
subset or a pedestrian specific one. To take into account the problem of imbalanced data, sampling
techniques will be applied prior to developing BN models and analysis. The remainder of the paper
is organized as follows: Section 2 presents the method and data used. In Section 3, the results and
their discussion are presented. Section 4 includes the main conclusions of this study and finally

diverse social groups, such as racial and ethnic groups. The culture of a selfish society taking over

insights, eliminate impractical ideas and form hypotheses then exploratory research is used.
Another method I will be using is Quantitative data in a survey. This is data are anything that can
be expressed as a number, or quantified. Examples of quantitative data are scores on achievement
tests, number of hours of study, or weight of a subject. These data may be represented by ordinal,
interval or ratio scales. In my survey there will be no physical or psychological rick involved in

Exploratory Research Approach
Research Design/Approach/Method The research design was clearly identified as "a cross–sectional
descriptive exploratory" study (Chernomas & Shapiro, 2016). The design chosen for this study was
appropriate but did employ the limitation that the results between each year of students could not be
compared within the program. The independent variables were identified as the following:
"demographic data (age, relationship status, year in program) [and] quality of life indicators
(satisfaction with sleep and leisure activities)" (Chernomas & Shapiro, 2016). The dependent
variables for the study were the depression, stress, and anxiety levels experienced by the students
(Chernomas & Shapiro, 2016). Chernomas & Shapiro (2016) acknowledged that no...show more

Chernomas & Shapiro (2016) state that the Cronbach's alphas for this study were 0.97 for depression
and on non–clinical studies the alphas are 0.91. The sample size for this study was on the larger
size; "437 useable surveys" were collected (Chernomas & Shapiro, 2016) which provides a more
clarity on how depression affects nursing students rather than if the sample size was smaller.
Research assistants were hired to interpret the levels of depression the nursing students were
experiencing by entering the data into the "SPSS version 18 software program" (Chernomas &
Shapiro, 2016). By using the software program, the sample mean from this study was compared
with "means in a normative sample" (Chernomas & Shapiro, 2016). As stated earlier, researchers
were not a part of the recruitment, data collection, or distribution of incentives to allow for
"anonymous data aggregation" (Chernomas & Shapiro,

Exploratory Questions
1) You are in the midst of the first interview with Mr. K., a recently divorced 55–year–old man. You
have introduced yourself and have addressed the other aspects of the beginning phase of practice.
You are now ready for an initial exploratory question. At this point, you know only that Mr. K.'s
concern relates in some way to the divorce. Therefore, you want to encourage him to explore that
topic in depth. Write the words you would say in asking this first question. Once written, specify
whether the question is open– or closed–ended. Outline your rationale for choosing this particular
question and anticipate how Mr. K. might respond.
Mr. K can you please describe your relationship with you ex wife to me please?
Mr. K please describe your thoughts about for your future plans?
The question that I selected was open ended. My question is opened ended because I am asking
my client to explore something. My rational for choosing this question was because I did not
want to come off as blaming Mr. K for anything. The test was very clear about that. I could have
asked something such as why did you divorce your wife? This question could cause my client to
get angry because he may or may not have filed for divorce. Therefore since I was dealing with a
sensitive topic I thought that it was better to ask him to describe the...show more content...

The median is resistant to extreme observations because its based on the middle one or two
observations of the ordered list, while the mean is nonresistant due to the influence of few
extreme observations. 5. In stats, spread is a way to measure the variability of the observations
around the center. 6. To calculate Q1 and Q3 , you must first arrange the observations in increasing
order to find the median, Q1 is the median of the observations whose position in the list is to the
left of the overall median, Q3 is the median of the observations whose position in the list is to the
right of the overall median. 7. The five–number summary is minimum, Q1, median, Q3, maximum 8.
Standard deviation measures spread. 9. The relationship between variance and standard deviation
is that the standard deviation(s) is the square root of the variance s2. 10. Standard deviation equals
zero when there is no spread, that only happens when all observations have the same value. 11.
Standard deviation is non resistant to extreme observations because strong skewness or a few
outliers can make the standard deviation very large. 2.1 Density Curves and the Normal
Distributions A density curve is a curve that is always above or on the x–axis and one that has its

Exploratory Self Study Limitations
One limitation of this study was the small sample size. This study was an exploratory self study to
better my own practices; therefore, the sample size only contained students from my own classroom.
However, the students in the class were not required to participate in this study in fear that required
participation would influence the students' responses. Students were only encouraged to respond if
they felt comfortable to increase truthful responses. As a result, twenty–two students were part of the
sample size, but only nineteen students participated.
Another limitation was the short time frame in which this study was conducted. The study was
conducted over the course of four weeks and within one math unit. Four weeks of data collection

Exploratory Essay How we are viewed to the outside world plays a part in who we we are as
individuals, it becomes apart of our identity. No matter how much we try to deny it, how others
view us impact how we view ourselves. To the outside world I am just viewed as a Caucasian
female, but in reality I am a Mexican American. Throughout the years I have just started to
identify as being Caucasian because that is just what everyone assumes, now my case is mild. It
has not deeply affected who I am as a person, but for other people they are not so lucky. Being in
America we are shoved in stereotypes, there is no uniqueness you are viewed as either 'good white

Your identity has to do with how you view yourself, and incarceration can be a bigger factor in
throwing off your own identity. Prisons were originally created to allow the inmate to self reflect on
how they were in the wrong. This seclusion is meant for them to see how unworthy they are; they
are inferior to the outside world. The Auburn Prison Experiment only made matters worse, the
inmates were even identified by what crime they committed. (Mauer) Prisons took away their
identity, they were viewed as the lesser. Now, in modern day the punishments are not as strict, but
they still leave their scars on the individual. Incarceration rates have started to lower in the 20th
century, which would cause many to believe that we are fixing this wrong stereotype but instead we
have moved to other forms of punishments. The War on Drugs, which developed in the 1960's,
continued to oppress minorities, and shape their own views on their personal identities. (DuVernay)

Exploratory Essay On Abortion
Abortion has been one of the biggest controversies of all time. However many People agree to
disagree on whether abortion is a legal or illegal matter. Abortion is the termination of a pregnancy
through removal of the embryo or fetus. I support abortion for the following reasons. Birth control
failure, unable to support or care for a child, to prevent a child with birth defects or medical
conditions, and a pregnancy in resulting from rape or incest. A woman should have the right to do
what she pleases with her own body. For example, say a woman is pregnant with no desire of
keeping the child and there was no clinic to help her remove the fetus. She's most likely going to
obtain matters into her own hands and figure a way to abort the fetus herself. Why put women in

Self Exploration
Many of us go through life skimming the surface of our identities. That is, we don't truly dig deeply
into our thoughts, feelings, desires and dreams.
Part of the problem is that we're always on the go. When to–do lists keep swelling, self–exploration
takes a backseat. How can it not, when we barely find time for self–care?
Specifically, self–exploration involves "taking a look at your own thoughts, feelings, behaviors and
motivations and asking why. It's looking for the roots of who we are – answers to all the questions
we have about [ourselves]," according to Ryan Howes, Ph.D, psychologist, writer and professor in

Take some time and think about what you might need in order to be happy and ultimately successful
in your job/career. For example, a few things to consider might be salary, geographic location, job
autonomy, work hours, and professional growth opportunities, to name a few. Which ones of these,
and/or others, are most significant; things that would make an obvious difference in whether we
would enjoy our job/career? If you don't take the time to consider who you are and what you want,
you won't know what you are looking for. You need to be aware that no job/career is going to be
perfect and meet all of your expectations. But if you at least think about which things are more
vital to your happiness and aim for those, you can come pretty close to what you want. Think
about the skills and abilities you may have that you would like to utilize in your chosen profession
(i.e. leadership, helping others, mathematical ability, creativity, communication, etc.) Which careers
give you more of an opportunity to express yourself and be yourself? Many people make the
mistake of assuming that they can and will do just about anything for the right amount of money.
Well let me assure you that this is only partially true. In the beginning, the money may seem like
enough to sustain your job satisfaction and happiness, but soon everyone realizes that money alone
is only a temporary fix. If you don't really like what you are doing, or like where you work, you

Exploratory Talk Essay
How can teachers use exploratory talk to support the development of reading comprehension? Use
examples from the fiction books to illustrate key points.
Barnes (2008) tells us that children will not use exploratory talk unless they have a strong
understanding about what it is and are not afraid that they will be offended too much by how
others criticise them. This is useful for teachers attempting to use exploratory talk in the classroom
because it'll make them more aware of children being overly aggressive with feedback or children
not participating in the talk. Mercer (2008) can further this by saying that rules are important to have
in place when using exploratory talk. This will eliminate any risk of quieter children being left behind

Within their table groups which had been set up deliberately by the teacher to get children with
similar reading levels together, the children had to explore different features of the book. One group
would work on questions they wanted to ask the characters, another would take in turns to read the
book and highlight words they did not understand or had trouble reading. Tennant (2014: 165) tells
us that the text used during guided reading should be challenging but the children should still be
capable of decoding it. I observed this to be true during my school placement because the children
were able to show a wide understanding of what was happening within the book however when
they were asked questions about how the character was feeling or what they think would happen
next, they took a bit more time to try and get an understanding of this. Tennant (2016) states that
"the teacher's task is to deepen the reader's understanding of the text by initially ascertaining what
sense the reader has made of the text just after having read it". Tennant's statement can be
evaluated as useful for teaching a good level of guided reading because teachers have to broaden
the children's knowledge of the text. My own observations seemed to be a success because each
group was paired with an adult and each adult was drawing out information from pupils by asking
questions that got them thinking. Not only were they getting an idea of what children already knew
about the text but they

  • 1. The Purpose of Exploratory Research Exploratory Research The Purpose of Exploratory Research: Good Research Questions Years ago, before the advent of CAT scanners and other noninvasive medical diagnostic procedures, doctors who were stumped about a patient's symptoms might recommend "exploratory surgery." With little to go on but vague descriptions of symptoms, physicians would "open up" a patient to look around and see what needed fixing. In market research, exploratory research plays a similar role. Marketers have no machines to peer inside a decision problem, so they may use certain research techniques to "open up" the problem and look around. Researchers use these techniques, which they refer to collectively as exploratory research, with a single broad purpose: clarify...show more content... Generally, exploratory research techniques simply involve conversations between a researcher and the people being studied. Although the researcher may guide the conversation across certain issues, the questioning is usually informal and semistructured. Thus, the data produced by qualitative research is textual. That is, the research produces a "text." Although the text is analyzed, the methods of analyses are not statistical; textual data are not numerical and do not lend themselves to statistical analysis. This limitation is important. Researchers and decision makers alike often wish to generalize the conclusions of their research from their samples to some larger population of interest. Textual data do not permit this kind of generalization. On the other hand, assuming other conditions are met, quantitative data may be generalized from a sample to a larger population. Making these generalizations and calculating the margins of error inherent in them requires that the data be numerical. Generally speaking, research procedures such as surveys and experimentation (often called confirmatory and causal research, respectively) produce the quantitative data needed for such analyses. Thus, these two categories of research clearly rely on one another. That is, asking the right questions of the right people in the right way to produce generalizable statistical results requires knowing what to ask, who to ask, and how to ask. These facets of research are often Get more content on HelpWriting.net

The report focuses on the numerous disappointments and those disappointments got from a blend of hypothesis and establishments rehearse. Since the Great Depression we are in the thick of the hardest monetary emergency under the radical budgetary deregulation transform that began in the late 1970's. Those vulnerabilities were taken into account a blend of obligation and influence, intra–budgetary increase and securitization, neurotic basic advancements in individual economies, and unsustainable asymmetries in worldwide capital gathering, making lopsided characteristics in exchange, venture and utilization elements (Morgan, 2008, 2009; Wade, 2008). For example, involving dynamic reappraisals the emergency was 'moderate smoldering', conveyed by a progression of basic occasions. The outcome, on the other hand, continued an expository movement towards a negative result which is monetary deleveraging/ adjustment/ stoppage/downturn. There are two key reasons why the logical line of impediments was taken after. The principal key reason is that the framework knows the behavioral impacts of how awful or more regrettable the framework would be influenced. Additionally, both of the reason are connected with one another from multiple points of view. The second key explanation behind an explanatory line of impediments in view of the scale and scope of developing emergency was devalued. Given that the research problem in this report is ambiguous, the basic research method adopted is exploratory research. The role of exploratory research is to clarify and define a problem at the initial stage of the research. Zikmund, Ward, Lowe, Winzar and Babin (2011), suggest that exploratory research is not intended to provide conclusive evidence and is conducted with the expectation that subsequent research will be required to provide such conclusive evidence. Thus, exploratory research is the foundation of the research process which will lead to descriptive research, and maybe causal research. There are many exploratory methods that can be used to conduct research. These include field studies, action research, depth interviews, focus groups and desk research. This exploratory research utilised one qualitative method to collect data, which will help gain an insight of the research problem before further research is performed. The method chosen was 'in–depth interviews' which are relatively unstructured and extensive interviews in which the interviewer asks many questions and probes for in–depth answers (Zikmund, Ward, Lowe, Winzar, & Babin; 2011). Zikmund, Ward, Lowe, Winzar, and Babin, (2011) also suggest that there is no one perfect method which can meet all research objectives. • 5. Exploratory Essay Exploratory Essay: Library Administration and Management In library settings, the manager or administrator position is a prevalent position within the profession (Mackenzie & Smith, 2009). This exploratory essay will examine the current education requirements, skills, competencies, knowledge, experience, technical skills, and salaries of managers and administrators working in public libraries. Educational Requirements While the MLIS degree is widely accepted as the standard degree for library professionals, the requirement for employment can vary. The Bureau of Labor Statistics' Occupational Outlook Handbook (2014) lists a master's degree as the required entry–level education for librarians. However, according to the American Library Association...show more content... "Analytical, Problem Solving and Critical Thinking Skills" was the next most commonly listed competency (Fraser–Arnott, 2013.) Jordan (2012) developed a research–based set of twenty statistically significant competencies specifically for library directors by refining data collected from structured interviews with a diverse set of library directors. The study identified these competencies as being: enthusiasm, demonstrating leadership, delegation, accountability, planning, integrity, risk taking, credibility, resourcemanagement, creativity, customer service, interpersonal skills, communication skills, flexibility, vision, political understanding, maturity, problem solving, and advocacy skills. In 2008, the ALA developed a set of Core Competencies for LIS professionals, and included five competencies regarding administration and management. These competencies include: budgeting, human resources, assessment and evaluation of library services, developing community partnerships, and transformational leadership. The word "transformational" was chosen in reference to the changing nature of libraries; it was meant to indicate that libraries need leaders who are able to guide them through times of rapid change (Hicks & Given, Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. Exploratory Report Example XXXXXXXXX Exploratory Report Stake–Holders: People/Entities The conflict of the Ground Zero mosque has become one of the fiercest religious based debates in recent years. One of the most influential men in the debate is Feisal Abdul Rauf. Rauf is the Imam (leader in prayer) at the current New York City mosque just a few blocks away from the proposed location of the future mosque. He has put a lot of time and money into this proposed mosque and does not plan to give up on it. Another key person in this issue is Sharif El–Gamal, the CEO of Soho Properties. Soho Properties is the company who purchased the lot where they plan to build the mosque, and who is overseeing the hiring and funding to complete the project. Sharif and Feisal have been...show more content... The main reason for opposing this mosque is the location of it being too close to Ground Zero. Those who oppose it do not necessarily oppose mosques in America, since there are over 23,000 of them. Rather, they oppose it being near a location where Islamic terrorists attacked America nine years ago on 9/11. Many Muslim–Americans, such as Raheel Raza, say building this mosque would be a slap in the face to America. Also, there are a lot of mysteries behind this mosque such as where the funding is going to come from. Rauf has said he is going to release where all the funds are coming from, but has yet to even after many requests. Many are led to believe that Radical Extremists are providing funds, and the Park51 group has neither confirmed nor denied these allegations. The biggest person opposing this project is Newt Gingrich. He is quoted on the record many times saying this building is going to be looked at as a victory mosque for the terrorists. The people opposing this project have compared this situation to that of when the Catholic nuns built a convent in Auschwitz to honor those who were killed, and had no intentions other than peaceful ones, just like the Park51 leaders. The Jewish community became very hostile and started protesting and causing riots. When Pope John Paul heard about this aggression, he asked the nuns to vacate the land to maintain peace. • 7. Exploratory Analysis Essay One of the most popular methods for solving the class imbalance problems is sampling. The most used sampling techniques are undersampling and oversampling. In undersampling, instances of the minority and majority classes are selected randomly in order to achieve a balanced stratified sample with equal class distributions, often using all instances of the minority class and only a subset of the majority class, or undersampling both classes for even smaller subsets with equal class sizes. Alternatively, in oversampling, the cases of the under–represented class are replicated a number of times, so that the class distributions are more equal (Crone and Finlay, 2012). Mujalli et al. (2016) indicated that using balanced datasets, especially those created using oversampling techniques, improved classifying a traffic collision according to its severity and reduced the misclassiп¬Ѓcation of the minority class instances....show more content... One subset is the general, which contains all types of collisions, whereas the other subset is pedestrian–specific which only contains pedestrian collisions. Both subsets were used in order to find out if different patterns of variables affecting severity could be extracted when using general subset or a pedestrian specific one. To take into account the problem of imbalanced data, sampling techniques will be applied prior to developing BN models and analysis. The remainder of the paper is organized as follows: Section 2 presents the method and data used. In Section 3, the results and their discussion are presented. Section 4 includes the main conclusions of this study and finally recommendations are showed. 2. Material and Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Theirs is so much aggression around that it's scary to open your mouth, even to defend yourself. The design chosen for this study was appropriate but did employ the limitation that the results between each year of students could not be compared within the program. The independent variables were identified as the following: "demographic data (age, relationship status, year in program) [and] quality of life indicators (satisfaction with sleep and leisure activities)" (Chernomas & Shapiro, 2016). The dependent variables for the study were the depression, stress, and anxiety levels experienced by the students (Chernomas & Shapiro, 2016). Chernomas & Shapiro (2016) state that the Cronbach's alphas for this study were 0.97 for depression and on non–clinical studies the alphas are 0.91. The sample size for this study was on the larger size; "437 useable surveys" were collected (Chernomas & Shapiro, 2016) which provides a more clarity on how depression affects nursing students rather than if the sample size was smaller. Research assistants were hired to interpret the levels of depression the nursing students were experiencing by entering the data into the "SPSS version 18 software program" (Chernomas & Shapiro, 2016). By using the software program, the sample mean from this study was compared with "means in a normative sample" (Chernomas & Shapiro, 2016). You have introduced yourself and have addressed the other aspects of the beginning phase of practice. You are now ready for an initial exploratory question. At this point, you know only that Mr. K.'s concern relates in some way to the divorce. Therefore, you want to encourage him to explore that topic in depth. Write the words you would say in asking this first question. Once written, specify whether the question is open– or closed–ended. Outline your rationale for choosing this particular question and anticipate how Mr. K. might respond. Mr. K can you please describe your relationship with you ex wife to me please? Mr. K please describe your thoughts about for your future plans? The question that I selected was open ended. My question is opened ended because I am asking my client to explore something. My rational for choosing this question was because I did not want to come off as blaming Mr. K for anything. The test was very clear about that. I could have asked something such as why did you divorce your wife? This question could cause my client to get angry because he may or may not have filed for divorce. Exploratory data analysis is an examination where statistical tools and ideas can help you examine data in order to describe their main features. 4. To calculate Q1 and Q3 , you must first arrange the observations in increasing order to find the median, Q1 is the median of the observations whose position in the list is to the left of the overall median, Q3 is the median of the observations whose position in the list is to the right of the overall median. 7. The relationship between variance and standard deviation is that the standard deviation(s) is the square root of the variance s2. 10. Standard deviation equals zero when there is no spread, that only happens when all observations have the same value. 11. Students were only encouraged to respond if they felt comfortable to increase truthful responses. • 14. Examples Of Exploratory Essay Exploratory Essay How we are viewed to the outside world plays a part in who we we are as individuals, it becomes apart of our identity. No matter how much we try to deny it, how others view us impact how we view ourselves. To the outside world I am just viewed as a Caucasian female, but in reality I am a Mexican American. Throughout the years I have just started to identify as being Caucasian because that is just what everyone assumes, now my case is mild. It has not deeply affected who I am as a person, but for other people they are not so lucky. Being in America we are shoved in stereotypes, there is no uniqueness you are viewed as either 'good white folk', hoodlums, or immigrants. Now imagine being viewed as the latter, your 'race' forces you into the tight space of discrimination. You are now identified as being a hoodlum, that always seems to ...show more content... Your identity has to do with how you view yourself, and incarceration can be a bigger factor in throwing off your own identity. Prisons were originally created to allow the inmate to self reflect on how they were in the wrong. This seclusion is meant for them to see how unworthy they are; they are inferior to the outside world. The Auburn Prison Experiment only made matters worse, the inmates were even identified by what crime they committed. (Mauer) Prisons took away their identity, they were viewed as the lesser. Now, in modern day the punishments are not as strict, but they still leave their scars on the individual. Incarceration rates have started to lower in the 20th century, which would cause many to believe that we are fixing this wrong stereotype but instead we have moved to other forms of punishments. The War on Drugs, which developed in the 1960's, continued to oppress minorities, and shape their own views on their personal identities. Exploratory Reflective Analysis In reflection, I engaged in an exploratory discussion which I further researched the content and provided relevant examples to support my opinions, (Uzulner, 2007, p. 403). This makes me realise that it is true being educators, they need to reach out to families and build quality connections to explore children's world. Bayetto (2009, p. 17) states the importance of gathering evidence and data about children to plan programs to meet their Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 16. Exploratory Essay On Abortion Abortion has been one of the biggest controversies of all time. However many People agree to disagree on whether abortion is a legal or illegal matter. Abortion is the termination of a pregnancy through removal of the embryo or fetus. I support abortion for the following reasons. Birth control failure, unable to support or care for a child, to prevent a child with birth defects or medical conditions, and a pregnancy in resulting from rape or incest. A woman should have the right to do what she pleases with her own body. For example, say a woman is pregnant with no desire of keeping the child and there was no clinic to help her remove the fetus. She's most likely going to obtain matters into her own hands and figure a way to abort the fetus herself. Why put women in that situation when they have highly trained doctors who can remove the fetus using the proper tools with no harm done to the mother?...show more content... In her mind, she thinks the method is a safe and a reliable source to not get pregnant but then does. Is that really fair to the women out there who try their best to not get pregnant but do so anyways. It's a tuff situation for women who aren't ready to care for a child because her birth control didn't fall through and protect her. Why should she be punished for being safe? Give her the option to discharge the pregnancy to continue on with her life with not being responsible for a child she does not want or didn't intend to Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 17. Self Exploration Many of us go through life skimming the surface of our identities. That is, we don't truly dig deeply into our thoughts, feelings, desires and dreams. Part of the problem is that we're always on the go. When to–do lists keep swelling, self–exploration takes a backseat. How can it not, when we barely find time for self–care? Specifically, self–exploration involves "taking a look at your own thoughts, feelings, behaviors and motivations and asking why. It's looking for the roots of who we are – answers to all the questions we have about [ourselves]," according to Ryan Howes, Ph.D, psychologist, writer and professor in Pasadena, California. Having a deeper understanding of ourselves has many benefits. It "helps people understand and accept...show more content... Take some time and think about what you might need in order to be happy and ultimately successful in your job/career. For example, a few things to consider might be salary, geographic location, job autonomy, work hours, and professional growth opportunities, to name a few. Which ones of these, and/or others, are most significant; things that would make an obvious difference in whether we would enjoy our job/career? If you don't take the time to consider who you are and what you want, you won't know what you are looking for. You need to be aware that no job/career is going to be perfect and meet all of your expectations. But if you at least think about which things are more vital to your happiness and aim for those, you can come pretty close to what you want. Think about the skills and abilities you may have that you would like to utilize in your chosen profession (i.e. leadership, helping others, mathematical ability, creativity, communication, etc.) Which careers give you more of an opportunity to express yourself and be yourself? Many people make the mistake of assuming that they can and will do just about anything for the right amount of money. Well let me assure you that this is only partially true. In the beginning, the money may seem like enough to sustain your job satisfaction and happiness, but soon everyone realizes that money alone is only a temporary fix. If you don't really like what you are doing, or like where you work, you won't be Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 18. Exploratory Correlative Study Study Design: A cross sectional study, an exploratory correlative study. This method was chosen because the research is quantitative in which it looks to collect a detailed information. Study Setting: Due to the lack of time, we have used a non–list–based random sampling on the internet, which allow for the selection of a probability–based sample without the need to actually enumerate a sampling frame. The researcher distributed the link for the survey among social media and friends. Although, the method is well established, but we should not generalize the result across population. Subjects: The total number of the study sample was 269 adults. The following criteria were used for selecting the study sample: – should understand the meaning Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 20. Exploratory Talk Essay How can teachers use exploratory talk to support the development of reading comprehension? Use examples from the fiction books to illustrate key points. Barnes (2008) tells us that children will not use exploratory talk unless they have a strong understanding about what it is and are not afraid that they will be offended too much by how others criticise them. This is useful for teachers attempting to use exploratory talk in the classroom because it'll make them more aware of children being overly aggressive with feedback or children not participating in the talk. Mercer (2008) can further this by saying that rules are important to have in place when using exploratory talk. This will eliminate any risk of quieter children being left behind ...show more content... Within their table groups which had been set up deliberately by the teacher to get children with similar reading levels together, the children had to explore different features of the book. One group would work on questions they wanted to ask the characters, another would take in turns to read the book and highlight words they did not understand or had trouble reading. Tennant (2014: 165) tells us that the text used during guided reading should be challenging but the children should still be capable of decoding it. I observed this to be true during my school placement because the children were able to show a wide understanding of what was happening within the book however when they were asked questions about how the character was feeling or what they think would happen next, they took a bit more time to try and get an understanding of this. Tennant (2016) states that "the teacher's task is to deepen the reader's understanding of the text by initially ascertaining what sense the reader has made of the text just after having read it". Tennant's statement can be evaluated as useful for teaching a good level of guided reading because teachers have to broaden the children's knowledge of the text. My own observations seemed to be a success because each group was paired with an adult and each adult was drawing out information from pupils by asking questions that got them thinking. Not only were they getting an idea of what children already knew about the text but they Get more content on HelpWriting.net
