4. The project of Coal to PVC will be using coking coal or Thermal Coal or Blends of coal and Petcock
in the coke oven or coal pyrolysis plant to produce the required coke.
• The coke along with the burnt lime from the calcination process in the lime kiln is fed into the calcium
carbide where it is heated through electricity and allow to react and melt inside the Submerged Arc
Furnace.
• The Calcium carbide coming out of the furnace will be allow to cool and at the desired temperature it
will be crushed to required size and fed into the Acetylene generator for getting reacted with water to
produce Acetylene which will be cooled and cleaned sent to the downstream VCM unit.
• HCl is produced through electrolysis of Brine Solution in a Chloro-Alkali Plant.
• HCl will be used in the downstream VCM Unit while Caustic Flakes/Prills is the main by-product from
the Chloro-Alkali Plant.
• In VCM unit, HCl from Chloro-Alkali Unit and acetylene are mixed in a defined ratio and mixture is
passed through VCM reactors where synthesis of Vinyl Chloride Monomer (VCM gas) takes place and
the VCM will be fed to downstream polymerization unit for Production of PVC
