Can be used on a beam
A parcan is used for general wash and for its aesthetics.
A parcan would be used instead of a Fresnel for general wash. A parcan would generally be used in music
gig/concerts/festival. The aesthetics of the light will be why most people choose the parcan over Fresnel's.
Beam angles
CP60: 12 degrees
CP61: 14 degrees
CP62: 24 degrees
3. LED PAR
Accessories

DMX
Uses
General cover
Chase
Cant control where it goes
Knob makes it brighter or dimmer
Can be used on a beam
An LED parcan is an energy saving parcan. The use of LEDs in the light can change
colours on demand via a DMX cable, this is used instead of using a Gel frame with Gels.
This will be used over a normal parcan due to it being energy saving and can easily
change the colours on demand.
4. CCT (FRESNEL)
Accessories
G clamp
Safety chain
Gel frame
Barn doors
500 watt bulb
Rigged circular lense
Uses
General cover
Chase
Can control where it goes
Knob makes it brighter or dimmer
Can be used on a beam
For a dance show I would use a CCT over a profile. I would use a CCT as you would use it on a beam and
use one for the dancers head another for a torso and the last for their feet. I would not use a profile as it
would isolate a specific area and not use a wider cover as dancers tend to move around. Even though a
profile has shutters you can use barn doors for a CCT.
Beam angles
10 – 59 degrees
5. SOURCE FOUR SPOTLIGHT
Accessories
G clamp
Safety chain
Gel frame
Shutters built in
Gobo
Iris
Uses
Can control where it goes
Knob makes it brighter or dimmer
Can be used on a beam
Pick a certain area
For isolating an actor on stage I would use a source four over a flood light. I would choose a source four
as it would light up a defined area and its shape can be adapted whereas a flood light would cover the
entire stage and wont isolate the actor
Beam angles
25-50 degrees
6. MINUETTE PROFILE

G clamp

Gel frame
Shutters

Uses
General cover
Pick a certain area
If I needed to create a window effect on stage I would use a profile over a parcan. I would use a profile
as with the shutters I would be able to create the basic shape of a window but with a gobo I can create
the effect of a window be it a church window or a simple crossed window. I would not use a parcan as
you wouldn’t be able to create the shape/effect of a window as with the parcan the light is just thrown
out.
Beam angles
6-48 degrees
7. 1K SCENA (FRESNEL)
Accessories
G clamp
Safety chain
Gel frame
Barn doors
Uses
General cover
Can control where it goes
Can be used on a beam
For creating backlight for a musical I would use 1K over a birdie. I would use a 1K
because it is used for adding depth and backlight to stages and with its barn doors it is
possible to isolate part of the light to fit the area that’s need to be back lit. I would not
use a birdie because the light is not powerful enough to create back light and the light can
only be focused and not isolated.
8. SELECON(FRESNEL)
Accessories
G clamp
Safety chain
Gel frame
Barn doors
Uses
General cover Chase
Can control where it goes
Can be used on a beam
If for instance I need to create general cover for a Christmas show I would use a selecon over a
parcan. I would use a selecon as even though the parcan can create a general wash the selecon
can isolate and area with its barn doors unlike the parcan. I can also use a gel with this light such
as red or green or other festive colours.
Beam angles
6-60 degrees
9. PEBBLE CONVEX
Accessories
G clamp
Safety chain
Gel frame
Barn doors
Uses
General cover
Can control where it goes
Can be used on a beam
At a stretch you can use a pebble convex as a replacement for a spotlight
In a problem where a profile or spotlight was broke, as a replacement I would use a pebble
convex over a selecon. I would use a pebble convex due to its single pebbled lense. A profile has
two pebbled lenses so a pebble convex is the closet to a profile. Due to its barn doors the light
can also isolate a specific area.
Beam angles
10-59 degrees
10. BIRDIE
Accessories
G clamp

Gel frame
Uses

Cant control where it goes
A birdie is just a baby parcan.
For lighting an audience at a show I would use a birdie over a or parcan. Even
though a parcan and birdie look and do similar things the parcan would be to bright
and wide to light the audience. The birdie is the right size and power to light them.
Even though both can contain gels neither light can be isolated.
11. PINSPOT
Accessories
G clamp
Safety chain
Uses
General cover
Cant control where it goes
Can be used on a beam
If there is a need to use a glitter ball at a like a talent show or dance show I would
use a pin spot over an led parcan. I would use up to four pin spots when using it for
a glitter ball. I would not use an LED par as the light would not mainly be directed
to the ball it would cover a wider area. For a pin spot you would use different colour
shells over the light instead of a gel. Even with an LED par you can change the
colours much quicker the pin spot is still a better light to use.
12. FLOOD LIGHT
Accessories
G clamp
Safety chain
Gel frame
Uses
General cover
Chase
Cant control where it goes
Can be used on a beam
A flood can only be focused in which way the light goes but it cant be isolated
For lighting a cyclorama at the back of a stage I would use a flood over a profile. I
would use a flood as it would cover the entire cyclorama and not different places. I
wouldn’t use a profile as it isolates a specific area and lights a spot unlike the flood
which would flood the entire thing I needed lit.
