neutrons, and protons. Electrons are
negatively charged, neutrons are neutral,
and protons are positively charged.
B is for Balance.
O There must be a healthy balance among
producers, consumers, and decomposers
for a successful ecosystem. The balance
relies on natural ways to control
populations of living organisms and is
maintained mostly through competition
and predation.
C is for Compounds
O Compounds are formed when there are
two or more different kinds of atoms in the
molecule chemically combine.
D is for DNA
O DNA is deoxyribonucleic acid. It is the
hereditary material of living organisms.
O In bacteria, DNA is a single strand. In
more complex organisms, such as
animals and plants, DNA is arranged in
chromosomes.
E is for Elements
O An element is composed of microscopic
components called atoms. Elements are
organized into the periodic table. There
are 112 basic kinds of elements.
F is for Force
O Force is defined as the action of moving
an object by pulling or pushing it. Force
can cause an object to move at a constant
speed or accelerate.
O http://www.watchknowlearn.org/Video.asp
x?VideoID=57427&CategoryID=15591
G is for Gravity
O Gravity is the magnetic field of attraction
on Earth. Without gravity, all objects on
Earth would not be held in its place.
Gravity is NOT an unbalanced force
because it is not accelerating.
O https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LEs9J
2IQIZY
H is for the Hydrolic
(or Water) Cycle
O The hydrolic cycle describes the
movements of water above, on, and below
the Earth’s surface. The four stages are
storage, evaporation, precipitation, and
runoff.
O https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yNW1
evt93e4
I is for Inertia
O Inertia is the tendency to remain at rest, or
to remain moving with a constant speed in
a straight line unless an unbalanced force
acts on it. Inertia is Newton’s first law of
motion.
O https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mn34
mnnDnKU
J is for Jupiter
O Jupiter is the fifth planet from the Sun.
There are 8 planets: Mercury, Venus,
Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and
Neptune.

K is for Kingdoms
O There are five kingdoms that classify living
things. They are Monera, Protista, Fungi,
Plantae, and Animalia.
O http://blabberize.com/view/id/1302493
L is for Layers of the Earth
O The layers of the Earth consist of the
crust, the mantle, and the core.
O https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NAHY
6965o08
M is for Models
O Models in science are representations of
the natural world and universe in order to
help better understand how something
appears, its form and its function.
Examples include students making solar
systems, cells, or atoms to better explain
the form and function of each.
N is for Nuclear Cell Division
O Nuclear cell division is known as mitosis.
In mitosis, the chromosomes (containing
DNA) replicate. The cell then divides
resulting in 2 cells that are exactly alike.
O https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gwcwS
ZIfKlM
O is for Organelles
O Organelles are the parts of the cell.
These include the nucleus, mitochondira,
chloroplast (plants only), ribosomes,
Golgi, endoplasmic reticulum, vacuoles,
and cell membranes.
O http://www.voki.com/php/viewmessage/?c
hsm=01c2334d9bedff700441400038af46
1b&mId=2596687
P is for Phases of the Moon
O The major phases of the moon are: new
moon, crescent moon, half moon (or first
quarter), gibbous moon, and full moon.
The phase of the moon depends on the
portion of the moon visible from Earth.
O https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nXseT
WTZlks
Q is for InQuiry
O Scientific inquiry is accomplished by
allowing students to experience science
for themselves in hands-on investigations.
Through this process, students develop
science inquiry and thinking skills.
O http://www.voki.com/php/viewmessage/?c
hsm=1f81afda34a22dfda6dd69c7e8ca4df

R is for the
Rotation/Revolution of Earth
O Rotation is the spinning of the Earth on its
axis. It takes Earth 24 hours to make a
complete rotation. This creates day and
night. While Earth rotates on its axis, it
follows an orbit around the sun known as
revolution. It takes one year, 365 ¼ days
to complete one revolution around the
sun.
O https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l64Yw
Nl1wr0
S is for Systems of the
Human Body
O There are 7 systems of the human body.
These include the musculoskeletal
system, nervous system, circulatory
system, immune system, respiratory
system, digestive and excretory system,
and the reproductive system.
O https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9j1PW
hOnlmk
T is for STaTes of MaTTer
O There are four states of matter: solid,
liquid, gas, and plasma. Solids have a
definite shape and definite volume. Liquid
has no definite shape but a definite
volume. Gas has no definite shape and
no definite volume. Plasma has no
definite shape and cannot be classified as
a gas, liquid, or solid.
U is for Understanding
Weather and Climate
O Weather is the conditions of the
atmosphere at a given period of time.
Weather includes wind, precipitation, air
pressure, humidity, and temperature.
O Climate is the weather conditions in an
area on a continuous, seasonal basis.
O https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VHgy

V is for ConVection
O Convection is the flow of heat through the
movement of matter from a hot region to a
cool region. An example is the heating of
water on a stove. Other types of heat
transfer are conduction and radiation.
O https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GRY6
MpN2QW8
W is for Alfred Weneger
O Alfred Weneger, a German scientist,
proposed in 1915 that the continents were
previously one large continent that broke
apart and drifted to their present locations.
His theory became known as The
Continental Drift which led to the concept
of plate tectonics.
X is for EXothermic and
Endothermic Reactions
O Chemical changes result in two types of
reactions: exothermic and endothermic.
Exothermic reactions occur when heat is
given off. Endothermic reactions occur
when heat is absorbed.
O https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yvyHV
A1Ww_M
Y is for the Learning CYcle
O The learning cycle is a model of inquiry
that best supports science learning. The
phases include exploration, concept
invention, and application. Over time is
has been expanded and is now known as
the 5-E model. The model now consists
of the phases Engage, Explore, Explain,
Elaborate, and Evaluate.
