Companies for many years have relied on news , telephone and word of mouth to advertize and get customer to buy products and to get feed back on what a customer likes or dislikes about a product.
Social media was once thought of as a dominion of kids with crazy MySpace pages and college students looking for whatever I can get on facebook but no longer(Joel Postman 2009) most company had never thought of or dreamed of using it to reach out to consumers nor did they have any idea that it was not just kids using social media.
But now with the emergence of social media such as blog sites, Twitter, FaceBook and YouTube not only can they advertize and get feedback but they can also talk to the customer themselves 24 yours a day 7 days a week.
Just as Windows Vista was released, Microsoft‘s marketing strategy for Windows 7 focused on social media as a key aspect. ( Tim Rowe 2010) Rather than defending Window’s Vista or ignoring customer complaints, Microsoft empowered customers to help create a better Windows product. This technique helped Microsoft turn critics of Windows Vista into stakeholders of Windows 7.( Tim Rowe 2010) not only did not ignore their critics but they used the commits they got from Social media to help them build Windows 7 and also make customers it.
Dell computers receives over 10,000 ideas from costumers through IdeaStorm their website. The also have over two billon conversations with customers a year(Joel Postman 2009) . This was impossible a few years ago by the use of the old media.
With more and more Companies using social media at about 86% of B2B companies are using social media, compared to 82% of B2C companies. (Chad Wiebesick 2011) its time for your company to Jump on the Social Media Band Wagon
The first thing that we have in mind for your company is a Facebook Fan page for your company. We would send discounts and promotions to targeted individuals as well as other Businesses that use Facebook. In creating the Facebook fan page this would allow business as well as the individuals that work for other companies to commit on your software. In doing this you would be able to make changes that help meet customer needs. As well as create new business from word of mouth.
The next thing we would do is create a company Blog site this would give business the chance to ask questions anytime they like and also to tell what they like and dislike about your software in doing this you once again be able to improve and answer costumers on a broader scale. We would also use Google and other search engines to list your blog site generating more traffic.
Old media does not work with more people using social media such as Facebook, blogs, twitter, and YouTube. More and more Business using social media such as Microsoft and Dell its time to Jump on that bandwagon .
