1. Tool A7The start-up tool
The start-up tool is a tool for beginners. With no more than four ba-
sic questions it seeks to provide more awareness of what can or has
to be done. At the same time, it is a question-asking strategy which
is good to be remembered in any situation where something new is
about to be initiated. In any individual or collective analytical or
planning process such a situation may arise.
Whenever it comes to this, these four questions are basic and help
to structure the brainstorming, be it in a group or with yourself.
1. What do we know?
What do we know about the subject, the situation, the persons
involved, etc.? And make sure to ask critically: Do we really
know? Or do we just think to know? Have we ever confirmed this?
2. What do we not know?
Is there something we do not know although we must know it in
order to be able to deal with the situation?
3. What do we need to know?
Establish a list of all things you think you need to know
in the context of the situation or project.
The brainstorming in whatever of the two example forms
given can be visualised on a moderation board just as well
as with a mind mapping tool.
In the process of such a brainstorming, seemingly very
complex or difficult things become more transparent, the
task becomes feasible, it becomes clear that with joint
efforts it can be tackled.
