Dear Judges,
I am Tiffany Bailey, and my goal is to go to college and get my education in criminal
justice. For my senior project I have chosen to do forensic science. I chose forensic science,
because that is what I would like to study and pursue in the future. I also wanted to get a feel for
what it was like and whether I would like doing that job every day.
For my product I asked my project facilitator to pull out an old file that had already been
settled so I could experience the process of working a forensic case. My research paper relates to
my product, because the type of case that I used for my product involved expert knowledge of a
forensic engineer. I researched the different types of studies that are used in forensics. I learned
that in some cases the evidence calls for an expert opinion in some field of science such as an
anthropologist, psychologist, and even an engineer. I had just a few obstacles to overcome
throughout the process. The first one being scheduling time to meet with my facilitator, because
he works weekdays only, so I had to schedule days to meet with him over breaks. Then, I had
scheduled to meet with him over September break and I had gotten in a car accident and was not
able to meet with him that day. My final obstacle was not being able to upload the video he gave
me to youtube to embed it into my prezi, because of the legal issues. Even though these obstacles
set me back from where I wanted to be, I was able to finish my product on time.
I am interested in becoming a forensic psychologist. I was able to research the job of a
forensic psychologist and was able to learn about psychology was used in the court of law. My
topic allowed me to research and experience the day to day tasks of a forensic scientist. I also
learned the value of an expert opinion when a forensic scientist is called upon as a witness. The
project allowed me to learn about the steps you take when working a case and also how to
explain the results in court.
The senior project has allowed me to expand my knowledge of forensic science. It has
given me the opportunity to experience what the job will be like. It also made me realize that this
is something I want to do in my future. I believe this is a great way for seniors to get a feel for
what their intended career is going to be like, and whether or not that career is for them. By
deciphering this now, they will not have to waste time and money in college if they decide that is
not the right career for them.
Sincerely,
Tiffany Bailey
