2. Phillip II of Macedonia
There was great conflict with the idea
of the Macedonians being Greek or not
“the oblique order of battle” was
Philip’s idea to reorganize- which led to
a revolution in tactics
These tactics included dividing his
battle front into offensive and defensive
areas so that be could better choose
his battles.
3. Alexander the Great
During 334 B.C. Alexander the Great
invades Persia and wins the Battle of the
Granicus
In 280 B.C. after Alexander died at the age
of 33 due to an elevated fever, a new king
(Ptolemy) announced the construction of the
Lighthouse of Alexandria. This lighthouse is
considered to be one of the Seven Wonders
of the Ancient World
4. Idealism/ Longing
The first main characteristic Alexander the
Great had was idealism
He wanted unison
His idea was to mix the culture of
Macedonian and Iran
The second main characteristic Alexander
the Great had was longing.
This is a characteristic that can be taken
positively or negatively. In Alexander the
Great’s case, his longing caused him to
always want more than what he had. He was
never satisfied with anything.
